"Liam, can I attend Aunt Ember's birthday banquet as your female companion tonight?" Hannah asked over the phone. Her voice was tinged with anticipation.

Liam rubbed the spot between his brows. "Hannie, your parents won't agree to it."

"I don't care. Pick me up after work," she said wilfully. "I'll only be your female companion. If they don't agree to it, I'll just go there alone and let everyone laugh at me."

"You're Ms. Lancaster and also my princess. No one will make fun of you," Liam replied with a smile.

"Are you going to bring Ms. Jenson with you? Liam, Aunt Ember will get angry."

Although he didn't refuse her, tears immediately misted over Hannah's eyes as she discerned the underlying meaning in his words.

"Even if you don't want me to be your female companion, you can't bring her either. Aunt Ember loves you a lot. If you attend the banquet with Ms. Jenson, do you know how sad your mom will be?"
