This is my first official hunting trip. Our first official hunting trip as a pack. The formation is simple. Leelie is taking the lead. Micca and I flank her. Ashton takes the center just behind us and Jayk stays behind as the strongest of us.
Lydia strapped a harness around each of us in case we got hurt. It has a change of clothes, weapons, and first aid kits.
We weren't wrong. They're trading wolves again tonight. This time there are more delivery vans. The ship the vampires came in, is different. This one is a transport ship. It doesn't have sails like the last one. The five of us stay very still as the vans come out of the tunnels. There are about fifteen of them.
There are a lot more wolves as well. I expected them to be armed, but most of them are wearing easy tear-away clothing. Did the humans take their toys? A pleased rumble vibrates in my chest at the idea and the others answer it just as happily.
"Do we have a count?"
When I approach one of the vans, there's a familiar scent. I watch as the others run past me to get to the vans. "Wait!" I call out. "Mars, we have to move," Jayk growls. "There's something wrong. Do you smell that?" "Blood?" "No, plaster. It's-" I lean into the van and try to ignore the blood. "They're rigged," I tap the door. "Hello?" "There's a bomb on the door," a girl calls out. "Jayk, they're all rigged," I look back at him. His eyes scan the van and he nods. I go around and climb into the van from the front. There's a silver cage blocking the back area. There's no way for me to remove it. "Are you seeing this?" Leelie calls out. "Hi," I wave at the little girls inside of the van. They look terrified. "My name is Dagmar. I'm going to need your help, okay?" "We're stuck," the girl who had answered me before sits up. "I
"Our location has been compromised. Arthur knows where we are now," Jayk informs us. This is the first time we're meeting in the center of the pack lands. There are a little over two hundred and fifty wolves present and most of them have already taken the oath. "The shadows will be retreating to the edges of our borders and I would appreciate it if none of you ventured outside of your designated areas for the time being. "While the shadows are loyal to our pack, they are still vicious beings in their shadow form. I don't want anyone to get hurt. Each occupied villa will be guarded by a warhead, two Betas, and three deltas. As the head household, we stand at the front. To get to any of you, any trespasser will have to go through the main team of Warheads. My priority is your safety. "To those of you who are new here. I would like for all of you to report Every, Jet, Micca, and Lydia. They are going to make sure that you are healthy and will assign you
My patience has been tested over and over again over the past few days. Despite how badly I want to be a people person, there are just some individuals that just rub me the wrong way. It's not their fault. I know that. I've just been looking out for myself for a long time and letting others in is going to take some time getting used to. I've practically been a rogue my entire life. At least, the part where I could move around freely. The pack life is proving to be difficult. I'm not the only one with the problem. Miles and Leelie are just as exhausted as I am. Getting this many people settled is not as easy as any of us predicted. On top of that, Arthur and his idiot goons are stalking around the southern borderlines. They're looking for a way in, but with the shadows it's impossible. Especially because they have no idea which shade might be deadly. Jayk and I haven't taken our eyes off Every. Leelie and Ashton are covering Jet. What he said to Leelie bot
Jayk Seeing that little monster wounded is not something I think I'm ever going to get used to. We're going to be short a warhead for a couple of days. The silver lining is that she's not going to get in the way of what comes next. Dagmar has been through enough since she has been active and being part of a full-scale attack feels like something that would overwhelm me at her age. "She's out," Micca comes back. "Everything is set up," Miles walks through the door with Leelie behind him. "Did it work?" she asks. "Yeah, she's out," I nod. "How long do we have before she starts mom-ing us?" Lydia asks. "Also, I feel bad that you put her down before she ate," "Who the fuck am I making dinner for then?" Ashton shouts from the kitchen. "I'll take some," Miles calls back. "Get ready. You have three hours to prepare," I head over to my room. We've been s
LeelieLydia and I stare at each other. We did not mean to listen in on their conversation but it was worth it. At least, for me it was. I don't know what the rules of a breakup are. I've never stayed long enough for any relationship to form, but Lydia makes it look messy.Every and Jayk are incompatible, but he needs to stop thinking about Danica. It's really cutting into everything around here. We'd be stuck if Dagmar hadn't stepped up as amazingly as she has. Jayk doesn't hesitate to pick Every up and take her into his room."I'm out of here," Lydia spins around to leave."Lyds," I stop her."I can't. Before Dagmar brought
There's a low growling sound nearby. Whoever the hell it is better to count their minutes because this is the best sleep I've had since Miles and I completed our mating. The room is dark. I sit up clapping my hands to turn the lights on. There's no one in here. I climb out of bed and stumble into the bathroom. The bathroom speaker read four fifteen a.m. I splash water on my face still feeling the lingering effects of the wolf's bane Jayk used. I am starving and I am freezing. Someone left the balcony door slightly ajar. As I reach for the handle again I hear the growling again. I pull the door open and step out to see an unusual darkness at the edges of the Southern border. "Jayk?"I call out. "You're up,"he sounds alarmed. "What's going on?" "How do you feel?" "Better,"I check my leg. "The wound is gone," "I hate to d
Jayk It's been forty-eight hours since I spotted the abnormality in Dagmar's eyes. Her wolf is pacing back and forth in the cell and hasn't let her shift back into her skin despite my orders. I went through this with Micca. After his first shift, it took a couple of weeks for him to shift back and his eyes were the same shade hers are now. "What do we do?" Miles asks. He hasn't left her side. Micca is weak. I think this has to do with the fact that they haven't completed their mating. "We had to wait Micca out," I remind him. "With Arthur on the move, I don't think we have that long before he strikes again," at the sound of Leelie's voice Dagmar growls and snaps at the metal bars like a rabid dog. "Hey, cut that shit out," I slap the bars. She jumps back barking at me. "I paid good money for your teeth for you to just break them being a brat," "We can throw one of them in there. If s
The colors return in pretty hues of reds and greens. My head is fuzzy and it's freezing. Where the hell am I? My surroundings are all unfamiliar. I raise my hands to rub some of the sleep out of my eyes only to find they're covered in blood and dirt. I sit up to see why I'm freezing. I'm naked and filthy. My arms and legs are stained just like my hands. I can taste it now that I'm a little more aware of my body. It's sprinkling but the moisture in the air doesn't mask the obvious smell of death in the air. It's dark, late in the afternoon. The sky is an angry dark gray. What happened to me? "Dagmar!" I hear someone call out my name. "Mars!" another voice. I think it's Miles and Leelie. I clear my throat to test if I can call back, but before I can open my mouth to shout for them something is pressed up against the back of my head. "Make a sound and I'll blow your head off," I sit up on my legs and turn back to come face
