Venna and Maureen sat in the back of the taxi, the city's lights blurring past the windows as they hurried to Amethyst's apartment. The air was thick with worry and anticipation. They couldn't help but worry because, after he left and told them he had to go home to his family house, Venna and Maureen didn't receive any news. Now that Amethyst was back in her apartment, they could breathe a little easier.

Amethyst's unexpected text message had been brief but alarming, hinting at something serious. Because Venna and Maureen know that when he texts about his family, he doesn't mean well.
