She knew the outcome of this story, it had happened so many times before over the many years she had been at this little cottage and while these stupid feuds between the Mafia Families existed it would happen again in the future. She looked down at the beautiful baby boy and was surprised to see him watching her solemnly with his milky blue eyes as if he knew what his life held for him and he was not afraid. She crossed herself and shook her head,
‘Caro Dio, mi sto spaventando un neonato, che ridicolo’ [Dear God, I am getting spooked by a new born, how ridiculous] This little boy was special because she had cared for his father in the same way, Alessandro had always been her favourite, a sunny child with a ready smile who won the hearts of all who met him. He rarely cried and as long as she spoke to him he would smile up at her adoringly and when he went to school he soon made friends and was a nautral leader. The other cxhildren soon discovered he had a quick brain and hated bullies, when the older children picked on the new ones he stepped in and was not afraid to use his small fists if he needed to. He did not need to do that often, he was so clever he could talk his way out of most things and would make the bullies laugh with his charm and crazy antics. His Grandmother watched him grow in confidence and learn from his mistakes, he never made the same mistake twice and his teachers adored him as much as his friends did.
She had not been surprised to receive Alessandro's letter telling her all about the pretty young woman, Gabriella, who had just dropped off their son. He had been so happy, so very much in love, it had never crossed his mind that her being from a rival ‘family’ and their deadly enemies to boot, would cause them so much trouble. She sighed heavily as she went into the kitchen to prepare a bottle for the newborn and saw sitting on the well scrubbed table the shiny invite to their wedding, Alessandro had naively thought by arranging for them to be married in a Catholic church and by a Priest it would make their families change their mind and accept them as a couple. It backfired spectacularly, instead of accepting her they were furious saying he had been trapped by the whore because she was pregnant. The trouble with that statement was it was actually true, she had been in the early stages of pregnancy with the newborn in the crib. This was why they had arranged the wedding not wanting their son to be born outside of marriage, it was still frowned upon in old fashioned Catholic Sicily. He had been ordered to get the marriage annulled but by then his new wife was showing with their baby and it was impossible to do. His family went after her , criticising everything she did, insulting her at every opportunity, bullying her into doing things she did not want to do, her life was a living hell. The only thing keeping both of them going was their love for each other that never waivered and when he discovered their plot to snatch his son straight after his birth and give him to his childless oldest sister he finally snapped and they made their plans to eun away and start afresh in another country. He could not believe his siblinigs would be so cruel, he had felt sorry for his sister she was unable to have children due to a childhood illness that had involved removing her womb. When he approached her in secret she hadd scoffed at him saying it was his own fault for marrying that enemy bitch and the child would be far better off with her to be brought up as one of their family. Her final words had destroyed him, ‘If you do as you are told and get rid of her after the birth I will let you be a part of his life as one of his Uncles. You are young and will have plenty of time to marry again to one of our own and have lots of children.’ He has walked away in disgust and they had intensfied their plans to run away, they had hoped to go much sooner than they did but her Grandmother became seriouosly ill and she had to stay to attend the funeral. They had run that night, not knowing the stress had already put Gabriella in early labourthey had been so close to escaping, only a few miles from the border and safety when their son had made it clear he wanted to be born in the same country as his parents.
Romero Lucian never saw either of his parents again, the two families hunted them down like animals and cornered them together, when they asked about the child the couple had lied and said he was stillborn and theyhad buried him in the mountains away from their toxic families. This had enraged both fathers and the couple had died in each other arms from the bullets of their guns. The two men had then ordered their remaining sons to bury them quickly with nothing marking their grave so they were rolled into the earth still gripping each other together forever in eternity. Romero would learn of them from his Grandmothers knee and he knew she told him the truth, his Nonno would never lie to him she would spank himi when he tried to lie so he always told the truth just like her.He was happy growing up with the old lady in the little cottage, they did not have much but they did have a lot of love, she showered him with it but she knew it would not last the Mafia would knew of him and they would come for him eventually only death freed you from their clutches.
Don Santini, abbiamo un regalo per te.’ [ Don Santini, we have a gift for you.’The pretty teenage girl was thrown to the floor in front of the Don, she kept her head down staring at the floor, The Don barely glanced at her then snapped,‘Da dove l'hai preso?’ [Where did you take this one from?’’‘E' l'unica figlia femmina di Marconi, Don Santini.’ [She is the only daughter of Marconi, Don Santini.]Now the Don looked at the young girl, standing he grabbed her thick golden hair and pulled her to her feet, she was beautiful. Her deep blue eyes regarded him with hate, her figure was perfect just ripening into full womanhood and desire pooled in his groin,‘Uscite, tutti voi.’ [Get out, all of you.]The men left instantly knowing better than to disobey and when the door closed he turned to her,‘La tua età ragazza.’ [Your age girl?]He demanded and she snapped back,‘Diciannove’ [Nineteen]Don Santini was in his late thirties, very good looking, tall and athletic, he kept himself fit an
The baby’s mother said that she was screaming to be fed when the little boy quieted the baby after she had woken them all up in the early hours. The two women had tried everything to calm the raging baby but all it had taken was a gentle stroke of his small hand and the soft words from his lips and the baby had fallen into a deep peaceful sleep. He had smiled up at her Mama and said confidently,‘No, non un angelo, ma io sono il suo protettore e lo sarò sempre’ [No not an angel but I am her protector and I always will be]The elderly woman had crossed herself at the matter-of-fact way the little boy had spoken somehow, deep in her heart, she knew the lives of these two tragic infants were inexplicably joined forever. As the weeks passed the little boy grew closer to the baby girl spending all his spare time near her, chatting away as if she could reply and anyone watching would have seen the little girl follow him with her eyes keeping him in view at all times.
Romero never forgot the beautiful little girl with the unusual cat's eyes, he remembered his Nonna had told him that her eyes were very special because newborns should have blue eyes. Juliette’s eyes were a deep emerald green mixed with molten gold, it had spooked his Nonna when she first saw them and she had gone to the nearby little church to say a rosary. She had brought back the local Priest and he blessed the baby and sprinkled her with Holy Water as he prayed fervently. It had made Romero laugh because she had screamed her outrage at having the cold water thrown over her waving her tiny fists in anger at the Priest it had taken all his young patience to calm her and rock her back to sleep. He had noticed the look in the Priest's eyes as he did so, he hated the black-clad ‘Fathers’ and he glared back boldly,‘Sei un ragazzo insolente, prima arrivi alla grande scuola meglio è. Non permettiamo tale comportamento e sarà mio piacere batterlo fuori da te ragazzo’ [You are an insolent
‘Nonna, tu chiedi a molto’ [Nonna, you ask to much]They sat on either side of her holding her frail hands,‘Egli è vostra sorella Figlio, è vostro dovere ora. Voi siete i suoi zii.’ [He is your Sister’s Son, it is your duty now. You are his Uncles]She lay back exhausted and the two men stayed close talking to her gently, it was clear her time was near at almost ninety-six she had lived a long productive life caring for all their children at some stage in their lives. They told her how much they loved her, she was their Grandmother too and they remembered many happy times visiting her as children, she was never happier than when her little cottage was full of happy hungry children and they adored her and the cakes and biscuits she made for them. She had summoned them when her Doctor had told her the cancer was aggressive and there was nothing more anyone could do. She knew Romero was going to be unhappy she had not had the time to tell him of his family she had not expected to leave
Romero’s childhood came to an end that day as the car sped through the streets to the harbour boarding the ferry to take them to the mainland. He fell asleep as they journeyed through Italy to the coastal town of Salerno and the huge Villa perched on the cliff overlooking the sea. It was the early hours of the morning when Miguel picked up the sleeping boy and carried him inside. He carried him up the sweeping staircase and into a large bedroom placing him gently on the bed removing his shoes and covering him up. Striding out of the room he turned to the Guard,‘Guardatelo, quando si sveglia portatelo in ufficio.’ [Watch him, when he wakes bring him to the office.]The sun shining through the windows woke the sleeping boy and he blinked and then turned away from its brightness, yawning widely he stretched and sat up. Looking around him he saw a large airy room decorated in the palest blues and greys, noticing the bathroom he headed inside to relieve himself. He felt grubby from sleep
The first few days had been such an adventure the two of them had hidden in barns and outhouses, stealing food whenever they could, it was exciting and exhilarating as they kept one step ahead of their families. It was summer and the days were warm and golden, it was easy to find food the farmer's wives felt sorry for the beautiful young couple who knocked on their doors begging for scraps. They would bring them into their kitchens and feed them a nourishing meal or give them bread and cheese to take with them. Sleeping under the starlit sky and making love whenever they wanted it was a magical time for the young couple. Both of their Fathers had been enraged and blamed the other and it almost started a full-scale war between the families it was Nonna who stopped them. She called both Fathers to her cottage and raged at them telling them they were to blame for their pigheadedness and could they not see it was they who had pushed the young couple together. If they just backed off and i
Their families soon caught up with them and they did not try to run, there was no point they were surrounded so they held each other tightly and spoke of their love looking into each other's eyes. They knew what was coming and Alessandro had waited until he heard the safety catches being clicked off the guns and then he had kissed passionately. He knew she would close her eyes as she gave herself up to his kiss and he did the same clutching her against him as the guns were fired and their young lives extinguished. For once Ricardo controlled his rage at the young man from his hated rival's family and he had let them be buried together wrapped in each other's arms, in death as in life. He believed the lies they told that the baby was stillborn and as he had done what he set out to do, destroy his enemies even though it had cost him his daughter he had forbidden her name to ever be mentioned again. That was until Nonna had made her fateful call and discovering his Grandson was alive and
He had to do this every day no matter the weather, in the heat of summer, the pouring rain of autumn and the freezing winter snow. If he dared ask for a break he was placed across Miguel's knee and spanked so hard he could barely stand so he learned fast and kept his tired tears to himself. Every bone in his young body ached and he had blisters on blisters but he bit his lips, clenched his little fists and carried on. He would not let them win, he knew about his family now, his Uncles left no time in telling him he was nothing but a hated ‘bastard’ born out of wedlock and a stain on their family's bloodline. Every chance they got they belittled his efforts and told him he would never be good enough to be a part of their ‘family’ but he truly was his father's Son and he gritted his teeth determined they would not break him. This part of his life would not last forever, one day soon he would be grown up and his time would come. For the time being his young body adjusted and after six mo
Lifting her head imperiously she descended the stairs like a queen, Romero waited for her at the bottom and there was an audible gasp when she met his eyes then walked passed him taking the hand of her number two, Gino. It was clearly a snub but he hid his anger behind a blank expression she would not be able to avoid him all night but she tried very hard to do exactly that, he watched as she danced with every Don who asked her to moving lightly on her feet around the dancefloor. One or two of the older ones risked the wrath of their wives by dancing with her but most of them sent their sons to try and capture her attention. She was a prize worth winning even with the threats from the Council hanging over her head and they all tried it on, used to getting their own way with the women they encountered they were stunned when she rebuked every one of them.Except for Romero, there was nothing she could do when he strode across the dancefloor and tugged her from the arms of one of the you
For the next twenty four hours she slept letting her body recover from her ordeal, she was badly bruised and her back and shoulders were painful but she would heal none of her injuries was life threatening. When she ventured down to the kitchen the farmers wife gave her a huge breakfast that she devoured hungrily. She wanted to know how long Juliette would be staying for and the young woman told her it would be just for a few days until her boyfriend joined her. They were so trusting and Juliette hated to abuse that trust but she had no choice as she had no money to pay them until she could access her bank account. That night she made sure everything in the room was neat and tidy then left them a note she had written on the kitchen table before slipping away using an old bicycle she found propped against the farmhouse wall. Some how, more by luck than design, she found herself on the main road into the city and even managed to find a telephone box so she could call her men. Romero had
The Council Members huffed at him shaking their heads,‘Non essere ridicolo, Don Romero, grazie per averci portato il marmocchio, ma ora puoi tornare alla tua villa e noi ci occuperemo di lei.’ [Don’t be ridiculous Don Romero, thank you for bringing the little brat to us but you may return to your villa now and we will deal with her.]He could only watch helplessly as the Council Guards turned and pointed their guns at his men. They were outnumbered, as many of the Dons had brought their own guards to add to the Council's numbers. It had not occurred to him that this would happen, and he would not risk his men's lives in a pointless shootout. For now, he would retreat to a nearby hotel and send for reinforcements. When the guards had dragged her down into the dungeons they were quick to strip her out of the designer suit and shoes, she did not fight them as she was cuffed to a wall her feet barely able to touch the floor.‘Non sei così intelligente ora, puttana?’ [Not so clever now
[Pensi che io possa romperti la spalla? Ma signore, sicuramente sarebbe impossibile per me, non è vero? Sono solo una povera bambina che non può fare altro che allargare le gambe per un uomo.’ [You think I can break your shoulder? But Sir, surely that would be impossible for me, wouldn’t it? I am just a poor little girl not fit to do anything but spread my legs for a man.]Her voice was sickly sweet and very girly then with a flick of her wrist there was a loud snap and Romero held his head in his hands when the Leader let out an agonised scream and fainted. Juliette sighed theatrically as she dropped him to the floor and with a look of utter distaste on her face she crouched down and wiped her hands on his jacket then reached inside for his gun. Pushing herself to her feet in a graceful feline motion she turned to the Dons and their wives and said in a low threatening voice,‘Uscite, tutti voi. ORA!! Fuori.’ [Get out, all of you. NOW!! Get Out!!]She yelled at them pointing the gun a
She glared at him then without another word tugged her hand free and he could only watch with pride as she lifted her beautiful head and strode purposely into the centre of the ballroom.‘La sua bella piccola tigre era magnifica ‘ [His beautiful little tigress was magnificent.]He thought as he went to stand beside her and they did look stunning, such an incredibly beautiful couple that every head turned to look at them and silence fell. Romero put his arm around her waist and pulled her tight to his side, whatever they said his men were ready, the Council would not get their hands on his Juliette. The Leader of the Council stood up and banged down his gavel onto the marble table top sending the noise echoing around the ballroom, instantly the quiet whispering that had started when they walked in stopped.‘Signori, sapete tutti perché siamo qui. Il Consiglio aveva deliberato le azioni di una delle nostre "Famiglie". Abbiamo esaminato ogni aspetto di queste azioni per vedere se qualcun
He slapped her ass hard and she whirled around to slap him back but he had already left her to go and get ready himself, she was seething but had little choice when the Council called you obeyed. When she walked down the stairs an hour later even his Uncles whistled, she looked amazing, Her beautiful hair cascaded around her like a fiery cloak, and she wore the stunning glittery emerald green Chanel pantsuit that clung to her slender body as she moved. Her minimal make-up brought out the green and gold in her stunning eyes feline eyes and kissable plump lips and it was all set off by six-inch killer black patent Jimmy Choo heels.‘Non farai prigionieri stanotte, mia piccola tigre.’ [You are taking no prisoners tonight my little tigress.]He said pulling her into his arms and kissing her possessively while his men watched enviously, she may have been the daughter of that madman but every last one of them would taken her right there and then given the chance. She did not kiss him back i
‘Non ho scelta piccola, mi dispiace.' [I have no choice baby, I’m sorry.]He said softly but she looked away letting his guards take her to the room he knew it was going to take him a long time to win her trust back again. Juliette paced the room they had locked her in cursing the Council for their sexist treatment of her. Romero left her alone for the next few days knowing she would be angry with him for obeying the Council and not listening to her, when he finally went to see her she cut him dead, ‘I’m going crazy stuck in this room day after day Romero, can’t you see its what they want? You are letting them dictate to you, and I have had enough.’She was right, and he knew it the Council had deliberately took their time to come to their conclusions as a way of provoking a reaction from her and also from him.‘I will send them a message, tell them they must give their decision tomorrow or I am setting you free.’ He sent Luigi, who he had promnoted to his second, with the message
‘È una Santini, non c'è bisogno di un'altra ragione. È carina, posso capire perché la vuoi, scommetto che conosce tutti i trucchi per tenerti interessato. La scoperei io stesso, ma non è adatta a essere tua moglie. Lasciale allargare le gambe, è tutto ciò per cui una puttana Santini è adatta’ [She is a Santini, there need be no other reason. She is pretty, I can see why you want her, I bet she knows all the tricks to keep you interested. I would fuck her myself but she is not fit to be your wife. Let her spread her legs it’s all a Santini whore is fit for.]This time before Romero could answer a blur of red/gold flashed passed him as Juliette faced Angelo down her emerald eyes flashing with rage,‘Vuoi vedere com'è un fottuto Santini quando lo fai arrabbiare stronzo?’ [You want to see what a fucking Santini is like when you make them anger asshole?]He sneered down at her, she was tiny compared to him but he could not help reacting to her intoxicating beauty,‘Cosa hai intenzione di
She screamed at him pounding his back with her fists but that only earned her more slaps,‘Ti suggerisco di fermarti e fare come ti viene detto Juliette, il tuo comportamento da monello non sarà più tollerato nei confronti delle mie guardie. D'ora in poi hanno tutti il permesso di Romero di portarti nella tua stanza in questo modo.’ [I suggest you stop and do as you are told Juliette, your bratty behaviour will no longer be tolerated toward my guards. From now on they all have Romero’s permission to remove you to your room in this way.]He carried her through the villa slapping her ass hard until she went limp and then he dropped her onto the bed,‘Ti odio.’ [I hate you.]She sobbed glaring at him and he smirked,‘L'hai chiesto Brat, sei fortunato a non essere nei sotterranei perché è ciò che il tuo comportamento e la tua linea di sangue meritano.’ [You asked for it Brat, you are lucky not to be in the dungeons because that is what your behaviour and your bloodline deserve.]She glare
