KRISTINA'S POVI tried to sit up but found myself paralyzed. I couldn't even move my fingers. Panic seized my stomach, squeezing tightly around the pit of my belly. "What did you do?" My voice was hoarse. I needed water, needed oxygen, needed… He chuckled quietly, a sound that sent chills down my spine. The sound of his laughter filled the room. It made me feel sick. It sent shivers throughout my entire body like I'd just gone into hypothermia, which was probably how the wound on my chest felt at that moment. He shook his head slowly, looking pityingly at me. He stood up, walked over to my injured side, where the wound had just been inflicted, and began to clean it. "Oh, you poor thing. That really hurt your chest, didn't it?" he cooed, applying more pressure than necessary to the wound. He then applied bandages to it before sitting next to me again. I stared at him uncomprehendingly. Why am I not freaking out anymore? What is this feeling? It took me a while to realize that his
KRISTINA'S POVThe words felt weird in my mouth. She seemed like such an ordinary woman. She barely looked anything like the girls who had tried to attack me earlier. But still, that didn't make the situation any less uncomfortable. The fact that they were in the room, tied up with their faces swollen, and gagged made me feel like this was the least normal thing ever happening to me. Not even when I found out the vampires were real. "What's your name?" I heard her say as she stepped towards me, hand outstretched. When I didn't answer, she reached around the chair next to her and held out a roll of gauze. My mouth formed a line of annoyance at the intrusion in my thoughts. "Huh? What is it?""Your name... I don't know your name." "You know my name," I told her flatly, glaring into her hazel eyes. "No, I don't."She blinked slowly at the statement, clearly taken aback. That was good enough for me.She lowered her arm, looking at me warily as I tore the end off of the bandage roll.
KRISTINA'S POVThey stepped past us and exited the building, shutting the door behind them. He turned back toward me and pulled one of the chairs from beside my table out for himself. He sat down across from me, looking me dead in the eye. "So you're Kristina?" he asked, tilting his head as though appraising me. His voice sounded gruff and masculine, like he was accustomed to getting his way with people. There was something cold and calculating about him that I didn't trust at all. "W-why?""That's interesting. You're a lot different than I expected. What is your last name?" "I... um..." I stuttered, trying to come up with an explanation for why I looked like that. It seemed like I couldn't even answer basic questions without stumbling over myself or making some other stupid mistake. But I really needed help. "It's uh... Kris–I mean, Kristina," I stammered, still unsure what else to say. I felt embarrassed by the fact that I hadn't given him my full name. Maybe I'd assumed that
KRISTINA'S POV"Her name is Kristina, she was a common wolf. And you'll treat her like anyone else. She's still learning the ropes, don't push her. Now where is she?" Roger asked. The man pointed towards my desk and scowled. "Oh. I see..." He looked down at the ground awkwardly. After a moment of silence, he spoke again. "Erm... I'm sorry about earlier. You were obviously trying to take out our intruder and then you got attacked by him. So, I guess I can say I'm sorry. If you need anything, I hope you'll let us know." His expression softened again, but this time, it looked more sympathetic than anything else. Before I could respond, he walked back towards the entrance. When he turned back around, he smiled again. He didn't look apologetic. He was smirking. He must think I'm stupid or something. His footsteps echoed down the hallway until they died out, leaving only my own heavy breathing and the sound of my heartbeat. My knuckles turned white from the pressure of them holding onto
KRISTINA'S POVWell, let them worry. I'm fine. I won't be going anywhere 'till I figure out what's happening with all these people, so they better not call me or try to contact me by any means possible. I don't want any trouble. If they send someone looking for me after I leave the house, then they're gonna get an unexpected surprise. But I'll have to deal with it, eventually. I just wish I knew why I've been summoned here. That's what I'm most curious about, actually. And, as the saying goes, one should never turn your nose up at a bargain when presented with a golden opportunity such as this. In the meantime, I need to decide how I'm going to accomplish my goal while staying hidden from any potential pursuers. I decided to try some research. There were quite a few websites on Google, with lots of pictures attached. I selected several links and read the titles aloud. The results seemed to be promising. There were many sites that showed people with different colored hair, eyes, skin
KRISTINA'S POV"If a female werewolf gets pregnant, she tends to get knocked up and turn into a wolf. At least, that's how most of the myths went. There were quite a few who swore there were werewolves with human characteristics. It sounds ridiculous, but I've heard a lot of stories from old people who have lost a child or witnessed one themselves.""Wow. That sounds horrible, Kristina. So it's like when one person becomes depressed after losing their family member. Does that happen to every werewolf? How come people have never heard of any incidents before?" "Well… the research I've done suggests it's not possible for humans to lose a loved one to something like that. You couldn't lose one of your closest friends by simply being bitten by a dog. If they become infected, they die fairly quickly, and their death is painful, if not fatal."After a few months... I am back with Nathan and my children. Until I heard news about my father. While I was busy with what I was doing, my eldest
KRISTINA'S POVDid someone try to kill this innocent animal? It didn't matter. What really mattered was whether or not I had been hallucinating before or not. As far as I knew, nothing bad ever happened here. At least, nothing harmful. I tried to ignore the fact that I'm still clutching my cell phone tightly in my palm while approaching the carcass. Even though the smell hadn't gotten any stronger. And even if it did get worse, I can handle a dead deer. So much easier than a human. This thought made me pause. But what if there are no humans here after all? I don't know how this world works. I didn't study it much, to begin with. What am I supposed to do now? I looked around again. The woods were unusually quiet and dark. The sounds of crickets and other insects echoed through them, along with birds singing their hearts out in the distance, accompanied by small animals running past me. I heard a twig snapping close to me, followed by a series of sharp grunts. It sounded like it came
KRISTINA'S POVI tensed in anticipation for whatever crazy thing he would do next, but instead he held out a small white box. It had silver trimming and was sealed with a purple bow. I blinked, confused. This is definitely not Nathan's usual way to give presents to women. Then again, Nathan has always been really good at giving gifts that are unexpected, so maybe this gift is just another one of his surprises. I shrugged, and he opened the lid. A soft gasp escaped me as an array of expensive jewelry spilled onto my lap. I picked up a pendant made of diamonds. It was gorgeous, a simple yet elegant diamond encrusted band that was set into a large emerald. Nathan smiled. "It means 'beloved'." Oh. Well... That's kind of sweet. I couldn't help smiling too. "Thank you!" I said sincerely. He laughed and put his arms around me. "Of course," he murmured against my lips. We stayed like that for a minute before we realized how close our bodies were. I blushed furiously and tried to back aw
