KRISTINA'S POV That is, until my thoughts inevitably wandered to a certain someone. Someone who's eyes reminded me of honey and chocolate and sunshine. Someone who smelled of expensive cologne and musky masculinity. Someone whose skin felt smooth and velvety like silk, even if he was covered with stubble and scars. He radiated confidence and power like no other guy could achieve. But most importantly, he gave me hope in this dark and lonely world. He showed me that sometimes things will work out in the end. Things will change for the better. And he would be there when I needed him most. Always there, by my side. Like I always believed he would be. *** My alarm clock blared through the house. With a groan, I tried to block out its annoying noise with an arm draped across my face. When the noise continued, I shot upright, wincing at the pain in my head. I reached for the phone next to me. "Go to hell, Kristina. Let me sleep," I muttered before pressing the power button with my thumb
KRISTINA'S POV"No. We won't run away just because someone is trying to help. This situation is beyond ridiculous!" One of them says, "There's no way out now, and they know it." My shoulders drooped, and I gave the pack members a tired sigh. It seems that I'd have to do this the hard way then. The small group of wolves looked at each other, confused and worried about what to do next. The brown–haired boy sighed, looking towards me again. "What are you waiting for? Fight them!" He urged impatiently. "You're not strong enough to stand against them on your own." "But–" "Don't even think about it. Just get to fighting before they change their minds. I won't let some dumb kids die if I can prevent it." He said firmly, turning towards me. "I'll take care of them." "What?" "No arguments, okay? Go." He said curtly, turning to face the small group of werewolves, glaring at all three. He raised his hands slightly, and his fingers curled into claws. "This ends now." His voice hardened, s
KRISTINA'S POVI didn't respond. "Is there any truth in what they're saying?" The stranger pressed again. His eyes were sincere. It took me aback for some reason. I couldn't quite figure him out. My brow furrowed, and I hesitated. I wanted to believe him… but that wasn't the case at all. There was something odd about this guy. "Yes," I responded reluctantly. "They're saying… that the Alpha is planning on killing them. To punish them, or something. That's why." My gaze fell to my feet, ashamed. "Ah… so that's what happened?" He murmured to himself, looking sad, almost. "So they came here seeking refuge. How noble of them." He shook his head sadly, sighing. "Well, we must protect them, or else they will surely perish. You two are the only chance they have, and yet, you refuse to aid them. Your loyalty must be tested." The stranger frowned at us, seeming to hesitate for a moment. Eventually, however, he nodded resolutely. "Alright, I promise not to harm you. Let me help you protect
KRISTINA'S POV"I just had to do something." Her shoulders dropped slightly as she spoke, seemingly trying to put on a brave façade to cover her fear of what the rest of us could do. The others must have figured out her story pretty early on since she was acting so defensive, judging from the looks she was receiving from the three men sitting across from us. It mustn't be easy to live in fear, either. I sighed softly to myself. It was no wonder these humans feared our kind. We were fearsome creatures. I didn't want to scare anyone away, but I hoped she wasn't one of the lucky ones who managed to survive being around us for a little while. "We understand that it may seem difficult to believe at first," the man replied gently. "But, in our world, wolves have always been treated as dangerous predators. It's simply the nature of the beast." "Oh…" Her lips quivered sadly. She sniffled quietly, wiping her eyes. I felt bad for her. "You should eat, miss. Otherwise you will be in pain.
KRISTINA'S POVOnly the faint sounds of animals moving around could be heard from behind the walls and fences on both sides of the streets. Suddenly, another car honked loudly. It was coming closer. Our new ally looked behind us, his expression worried. He quickly scanned the area before grabbing hold of my hand and dragging me down into a small alleyway, forcing us behind the wall that surrounded the shops we passed. He pressed himself close against my back and pulled out his gun as I did the same. I gripped his arm tightly, holding him in place. Just in case. I took slow deep breaths through my nose, listening attentively for the telltale footsteps of whatever was approaching. Suddenly, we saw someone emerge from behind a building across the street. The stranger cursed under his breath. Even from several yards away, we could tell that the person was male. His hair was cut short and messy. His clothes consisted mostly of jeans, t-shirt, and jacket. Although we couldn't make out h
KRISTINA'S POVHe needed me, and I needed him. And I loved him, too; it was impossible not to. I knew that if he wanted, he could run far away from here, leave me in this dark alley surrounded by shadows, and disappear forever. It would be better for both of us. Better for me, because I could continue on living the life I enjoyed and I'd forget all about my past. For him, however, it would be hard enough to escape the past, but to abandon me? Never. I was the only one he needed. And I refused to let him go. I took a deep breath, steeled my nerves, and pushed open the door to the house. There was only silence. A sudden burst of light startled me awake. I opened my eyes abruptly, instantly waking up as soon as consciousness came back to me. The lights in the room were bright and glaring. I instinctively covered my eyes to shield them from the harsh glare. I blinked several times and rubbed my tired eyes, trying desperately to wake up. My head spun dizzily as it struggled to focus. I
KRISTINA'S POVShe was still shaking from the adrenaline rush.I pulled her close again, letting the comforting embrace bring me back to reality. She seemed smaller than usual without her blanket wrapped tightly around her shoulders and her hair mussed from sleep. "Did you have a bad dream again?" I asked, brushing her hair back with one finger. She nodded silently. She didn't need to speak. I knew what she meant. "Do you want to talk about it?" Her bottom lip trembled slightly, her mouth hanging slightly open. Her lower lip quivered and I held in a groan, waiting patiently for her to speak. She glanced up at me briefly and swallowed audibly. Then, finally, she spoke in such a quiet voice that she barely got the words out. "Who is he?" "Whom?" She paused for a beat. "The Alpha of Crimson Snow Pack– our father." She whispered, looking down. "Or... your ex–" I froze, staring at my child blankly for several seconds before responding. I cleared my throat and forced out a smile. "I d
KRISTINA'S POV"Not now that I know about the Alpha. It doesn't matter that you're here, she needs protection. Maybe even legal guardianship. Or, better yet, a family who has no knowledge of the situation. Like us," I added, glancing back at him quickly. He didn't react. I pressed on, forcing myself to meet his gaze. "Someone who knows that she's safe here." His expression hardened ever so slightly at my suggestion, and I sighed. "Please let her stay," I pleaded quietly, my eyes pleading with him. "This is my fault. Please, don't make me lose her to the consequences of my mistakes…" He shook his head once before stepping closer to me. His hand reached out to take hold of mine. His grip was surprisingly gentle. I looked up into his gray eyes, searching for answers, hoping to find compassion or remorse, but there was none. "You know I can't agree to that. Their father made this decision, whether you like it or not. Your children don't deserve to suffer because of their parent's mis
