"Alright, I’m heading out." Alaric placed his napkin on the table, getting ready to stand up.

A hand reached across the table and gently pressed down on his.

“Alaric, you just got here. You haven’t even warmed the chair and you’re already leaving?” It was Alaric’s mother, Daisy, speaking. She had been pestering him for ages to come home, and now that he finally showed up for dinner, she wasn’t going to let him off so easily. "It’s Friday evening—surely you don’t have anything urgent to do? Stay a little longer.”

“I have a few reports to review for Monday’s meeting,” Alaric replied, pulling his hand back as he stood.

Mrs. Winfield, not wanting to confront her son directly, redirected her frustration toward her husband, Albert. “Look at you! You handed over the company to him so early, and now he’s too busy to have a life of his own.”

Albert was busy staring at his phone.

Irritated, Daisy snatched it away.

Startled, Albert blinked in confusion. He had been

His expression turned two shades colder than before.Emma tried to keep the conversation going, but he clearly wasn’t in the mood to talk. His replies grew noticeably shorter.Thinking he might just be overworked and tired, Emma reminded herself of the research she had done before this blind date. Alaric had managed a large company at such a young age, and that alone had earned her admiration before they even met. She didn’t want to let go of such a high-quality match. The main course was finished, and dessert was served. Emma picked up her dessert fork but didn’t take a bite. The girl she remembered as barely waist-high had suddenly grown so much taller."Brother, you're back!" Tessa exclaimed, throwing her arms around Cassian. Is she your girlfriend? She looks familiar."Lena chuckled, "I’m not your brother’s girlfriend. But do you remember how you used to run to my house whenever your brother scolded you and you didn’t want to go home?"

Cassian quietly stepped out of Tessa’s room. “Sorry about that—she fell asleep.”Lena guessed as much. “Her love for naps hasn’t changed one bit since she was a kid.”He sighed. “Exactly. I told her to finish just two pages of homework, and not even an hour later, she passed out at her desk.”Lena chuckled. “See? You do spoil her.”“What can I do? She’s my only sister.” He shook his head with a helpless smile. “Next time, I’ll invite you over earlier and cook for you to make up for tonight.”Lena’s eyes lit up. “Really? You better tell me in advance then, so I can skip dinner the day before!”

Lena ignored the architect's puzzled look. After carefully studying the drawing, she looked up and said, “This design is solid, no doubt. But I do have a question—when designing this linear layout, did you take the impact of wind direction and sunlight on the residents into account? Considering we’re by the seaside, it’s a crucial factor.”The two architects froze, seemingly caught off guard. Lena's focused gaze bore into them, prompting a response after a brief pause. One of them replied, “We’re addressing it by enhancing window sealing. As for the wind direction…”The other quickly added, “We’ll reassess the building’s orientation to see if adjustments are needed.”Lena nodded slightly before pointing out, “Another thing—I n

Lena’s heart skipped a beat as she turned her head, finding Alaric standing there, hands in his pockets, a playful smirk on his face."Finished most of that coffee, huh? Aren’t you worried it’ll keep you up even more?" he teased.A small flicker of relief washed over her, but she quickly masked it, turning her head away with a huff. Of all things, he’d managed to track her down and call out her excuse. She lightly touched her cheek with her fingertips, glancing upward. "And what about you? What are you doing down here? How’d you even know I was at the café?""You’re afraid of ghosts, so obviously you’d stay somewhere well-lit," he said matter-of-factly, taking a seat across from her."

Lena read on with a mix of skepticism and curiosity. The letter went like this:“Seen the report card? I got first place this time, and you’re second. Victory doesn’t come easy, especially when your rival is me.But, if you’re willing, we could work together to grow stronger instead of fighting like it’s life or death every day. Let me know in 24 hours.—Your rival, and the only one who gets to call you an idiot.”The handwriting was youthful but neat. The content was... immature.

  • Rivals to Lovers   Ch84 - Losing to him

Lena had been so busy since Tuesday that she barely had time to sleep. At work, she was collaborating with the PR department to steer the company clear of a string of negative press. In her personal life, she was discussing the most advantageous legal strategies with her lawyer.During this time, she received dozens of anonymous calls. She figured they were either reporters or her brother, who was probably itching to hurl more sarcastic remarks her way. Her lawyer advised her to avoid any private contact with them. Even if they couldn’t elicit anything incriminating from her, it might still complicate future court proceedings.“If there’s anything to be said, let it go through the lawyers,” The once-fiery public sentiment about the "adopted daughter turned ingrate" had now died down completely. Fred, surprisingly protective of his significant other, had hurried off to Dolphin Real estate to address the issue himself, determined not to let any

  • Rivals to Lovers   Ch83 - Cash in on favor

Lena didn’t realize that Alaric had gone out in the afternoon until he returned, and only then did she discover he’d paid a visit to Hawthorne Construction. Since Stellan’s downfall, there was no longer any doubt about Hawthorne’s successor. It had always been clear that Fred was the top contender. Whether in terms of work capability or temperament, Fred was far steadier than Stellan had ever been. Naturally, Alaric’s visit this time was to meet Fred. Although their last meeting had been far from pleasant, Lena had privately handed over evidence of Stellan supplying substandard materials to Fred instead of making it public. Lena didn’t have to do that. Even though Stellan was solely responsible, exposing the matter would have only hurt the company’s business and led to incalculable losses. Thus, Fred owed them a favor. Alaric’s visit today was to cash in on that favor. Even if Fred didn’t like Alaric one bit, he still maintained proper etiquet

Lena kept thinking about it and couldn’t shake the feeling that something was seriously off with Alaric. He was always meticulous at work, never allowing even the slightest imperfection. Yet, he seemed to tolerate the trending topics linking the two of them. Wasn’t he the one who despised having their relationship misinterpreted?Sure, they had shared some physical encounters in the past, but that didn’t mean anything. Some of Alaric’s words and actions, however, unintentionally sparked unrealistic fantasies in her mind. Lena had always prided herself on her self-control, but she always seemed to crumble in his presence.Sitting in her office, she swiveled her chair slowly, one foot dragging against the floor as she turned to face the window. The reflection in the glass showed her silhouette.

Everyone was watching the drama unfold, saying this time Lena had really hit a wall. Winfield was thrown into chaos, with rumors flying that they’d eventually fire her. They also mocked Winfield, thinking they’d hired a great helper, but instead, the company’s reputation was now in shambles. What no one expected, though, was that within just two hours of the public uproar, Winfield had already instructed the PR department to release a statement on behalf of CEO Alaric. The statement declared that every employee had been hired through legal means and strongly condemned false reports and any behavior that tarnished the company’s reputation. The gossiping crowd dissected the statement repeatedly, but there was no hint of blame directed at any employee.Around 4:30 p.m., Lena glanced out the window and saw the swarm of people still gathered outside the office building. The security team was doing an excellent job, not letting a single journalist slip in.
