I didn’t sleep for very long. I remade the bed and folded up the clothes he’d had me remove. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to let him know I was awake or not, but the office door remained closed. I opted to comb out my hair and spend the time I had alone staring out the windows. I had to use the drapes to keep my nudity concealed, as I stood there watching life continue on the paths and lawns between the buildings that I could see. A tray had been left while I was sleeping. A pitcher of tea along with some containers of chopped fruit, bottled water and wrapped sandwiches were neatly placed on the tray. I figured it had been left as my lunch and I made sure to eat enough to last, unsure if I’d be given diner tonight. I found myself snacking on the fruit throughout the afternoon as I watched out the window. The sky had already begun to turn orange before the door opened again. I raced to the end of the bed, trying to toss my hair behind me and clasp my
I was awakened by a light tapping on the bedroom door. Stretching out, I was surprisingly disappointed when I found I was alone in the bed. The tapping came again a little louder, “Uh… Miss, um… Alexandria…” Blake’s voice stammered on the other side of the door. “I’m supposed to make sure you make it across the hall.” Panic hit as I bolted upright, clutching the blankets around me. “Uh, just a minute,” I answered, not wanting to have to walk across the hall naked. To my surprise, the pajama set he’d ordered me to strip off was on the pillow in his place. Smiling to myself, certain now that I’d done something right last night; I pulled the clothes on and made my way over to the door, twisting my hair up in a bun. “Good morning Blake,” I greeted him with a beaming smile. He looked surprised as he took in my smile. “Ummm, morning,” he responded, “Miss…” “My parents called me Alex,” he looked unsure, “but my friends called me Lexi.”
After antagonizing Candice, spending lunch with Dmitri and gaining a new project, Sophie seemed bored with venturing around the house now. A chair had been set out in the hall, assumedly for Blake, when we found our way back up to the suites. Flopping on the sofa, she eyed me suspiciously, “What exactly happened last night to put my brother in such a generous mood today? Not to mention, that kiss in the kitchen!” She giggled, “I did enjoy watching Candy turn that peculiar shade of purple when Dimi wrapped his arms around you. I thought her head was going to explode!” I just shrugged and spread my palms, unsure of what to tell her. “I can’t explain it.” I tried to think of a way to tell her what I felt in that moment, “Candy just makes me want to... You know, I think I hate her, and I’d like to drop kick her across the room when I see her.” It was a statement, but it sounded more like a question as I said it. She grinned at me, “Oh, my god! You like him
Breakfast went by in a blur. We were curled up on the couch, still in our pajamas with our mugs of coffee, when Dmitri joined us. Giving Dmitri a quick kiss, instead of sitting as a decoration today, I sat in the chair beside him. It was mostly a repeat of lunch from the day before. The twins held a conversation about contracts with vendors, while I tried to ignore the hand caressing my thigh so I could navigate food into my mouth. Afterwards Sophie bounced off to get dressed for her busy day and I was guided by a hand on the small of my back across the hall to his suite. I couldn’t remember the last time I felt this anxious. My heart was racing so fast, I thought that it would pound its way out through my chest. I had no clue where the day would lead after the last day I’d spent with him. He did seem to be in an exceptionally good mood today. He was humming as he closed the doors of his suite behind us. Even his smile seemed brighter than usual, happy instead of smug.
I felt my whole body shake, almost as if it was vibrating from the anger I felt at the moment. It didn’t help that it felt like there was an internal war raging within me. Part of my anger wanted to lash out at the bimbo on the other side of the door, the audacity to claim that he was hers when he was actively pursuing me and for all intents and purposes, legally speaking, was mine. Part of that anger was directed at him, feeling like I was being goaded into having more animosity towards her than I should, when I didn’t even want him for myself. Not to mention the way he seemed to enjoy watching me struggle with these feelings. Ignoring his amused smile, I stormed past him making my way all the way into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me, almost daring him to follow after. Coming face to face with my own reflection, I reeled back like I’d seen a ghost. The dark shadow I had seen so many times in his eyes when his primal senses took over his rati
If they had some kind of torture room, I’m sure that Sophie would have warned me about it, at least I hope that she would have. Unsure of what he had in mind I moved a little timidly to follow him. He held the door open and offered his arm, just like he’d done to me and Sophie the day before. I hesitated a moment before threading my arm around his. Arm in arm, he led me down the hall. Just like the day before, it didn’t take long for me to get lost in the twist and turns of the different hall ways and rooms with multiple doors. He was just as sure as she had been about what direction to head in. I didn’t know where we were headed, but we were passing through rooms I didn’t recognize, until we walked into his main office. This was the room where I’d been presented and inspected my first night here, trussed up and practically naked. My feet stopped moving, jerking him to a halt just inside the doorway. Dropping my arm he moved across the room to a shelf
My arms tightened around my chest, waiting for him to make a move. With a wink, he turned and walked away back towards the chairs. Frowning at the empty cups, he pulled a new bottle of vodka from a shelf beside him. With a deliberately slow pour, the cups were refilled and the bottle placed on the table beside them. With a slight bow, he gestured to the second chair. “Let’s get comfortable,” he sat in his chair. “I imagine that you’ll prove to be a particularly tough negotiator.” His lips twitched up at the corner, as if he was trying to suppress a smirk. Irritated by the smug look on his face, I stormed across the room, grabbed a glass, tossing the entire contents down my throat. I immediately regretted the action as the clear liquid burned like molten lava all the way down to my stomach. I slammed the glass back down a little harder than I’d planned, fighting the urge to gag as he chuckled. I flopped unceremoniously into the empty chair and folded my arms back over m
A strange woman was shining a bright light into my eyes, “I think she is coming too.” I tried to sit up but she pressed gently on my shoulder to stop me, “Give yourself a moment, dear,” her voice was calm and soothing, “we don’t know why you fainted yet.” She turned to look at someone behind her, “She still looks awfully pale to me, are you certain she’s eating regularly and staying hydrated?” “I’m not with her every second of everyday, but she eats at the meals I’ve been present for,” there was a weird tone in his voice, as he paced back and forth. “Of course Alpha,” she turned back to me and smiled warmly. “I’d suggest sending down for something just the same, and get some more fluids into her. It could have been as simple as low blood sugar, an electrolyte imbalance or just dehydration.” She was packing things into a small medical bag, “we’ll know more as soon as the tests come back, and I’ll make sure that they are in your hands as soon as I get th
If you've enjoyed following Selene's jouney so far, I wold like to invite you to continue with her as she explores what it means to be an incarnation of the moon goddess in "Rite of Power" I am posting it as it's own story and until it passes through the application stage, the only way to add it to your library is through the mobile and PC website for Goodnovel. I have already posted the first 3 chapters and will be contining to post 3 chapters a week, one each on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The only reason there is more beyond Rite of Submission is because of all of you. (and my beta readers who practically screamed at me that there had to be more). I hope to see all your wonderful comments and notes there. If you haven't noticed yet, I do actually look through and read your comments, even the ones correcting my grammar. And that brings me to a very special thank you to the unofficial editors: Cjallen24, George Calloni, Mylo, Noelle Mounce, SpaceKonijn and the MVP: Sacha De N
In the week leading up to our formal introduction of me as an Alpha to the rest of the world, Nathan had doubled down on my training sessions. We had our one on one sessions in the morning, group sessions before lunch, and sparing matches in the evening before dinner. The sparring matches had become something I looked forward too, even though most of the 2 hour span turned out to be a second one on one with Nathan. To keep any potential sparring partners from holding back, we’d added a unique incentive. If they could pin me, and get me to tap out, they were given a day off of all their regular duties. If I got them to tap out in less than 5 minutes, they spent the next day doing all the worst duties. The first day had brought a lot of eager challengers. Unfortunately, I’d learned to be
As promised, I’d begged for most of the night, but not for forgiveness. Even with my healing abilities, I woke up with sore, protesting muscles and flaming red buttocks. It made it that much more difficult to slip out of bed without waking him as the sun started peeking over the horizon. I wanted to try to actually learn how to train today, before training in a group with Sophie and the newly selected female enforcers. I’d had to pour the sway on extra thick to get Nathan to agree to meet with me without telling Dmitri about it. “You said sunrise,” he grumbled as I made my way into the sparing room under the house. “Careful Beta,” I warned, knowing it irked him to b
‘Sophia would like to know if you two are going to be indisposed all day,’ Dmitri’s groan told me that Nathan had linked both of us and awoken him as well. ‘Has she had breakfast set up in her rooms,’ his thought sounded more annoyed than he felt as his mouth kissed my shoulder, making my skin tingle. ‘No, Alpha,’ Nathan sounding just as annoyed, ‘As per your mate’s suggestion, she’s had our breakfast meeting set up in the main dining room today.’ I wondered if he could feel my eyes roll through the link. ‘Coffee,’ I tr
I found myself breathless, with my face smashed into the mattress. Struggling, I sucked in a breath to cope with the burn that radiated across my stinging buttocks, as his hand connected to shove my whole body forward; sliding me off of his expended member. The sudden emptiness made me acutely aware of the dull ache throbbing between my legs. My legs felt like limp noodles, not responding to my attempts to stand or at least roll over onto my side. “Haven’t you had your fill yet?” he practically snarled. My endeavors to assure him it was only me now died as muffles into the bed. The sound slap on my ass ripped a sharp cry from my throat. ‘It’s me! It’s me! It’s
I feel asleep with a sense of serenity I’d never felt before. Waking now and stretching my arms, I can’t help but worry if I’d dreamt it. Blue eyes, not black pools when he said he loved me. I jerked upright when my hand found only empty space beside me. ‘Dmitri?’ I tried to picture his face as I reached my thoughts out to him. Relief settled over me like a warm blanket, ‘Welcome back to the land of the living, Princess.’ I could feel his relief as well, ‘You looked so peaceful. I didn’t want to disturb you. I’ll wrap things up here and be up in a few minutes.’ I settled back into the pillows, feeling like I could float up to the ceiling at any moment. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you look so content,” his adoration washed over me, with a tinge of jealousy. My cheeks hurt from smiling so big, “You love me,” butterflies swirled in my stomach as he looked down at me. He frowned, “Have I really made you question that?”
To much time had passed and he was still just staring at me with a blank expression as I knelt there holding his hand in mine. One of us needed to say something eventually. I had a limited number of options before me, and I’d need time to prepare either way he decided. A knock on the main doors derailed my train of thought. His face was still blank, “I’ll go see who that is, and what they want,” I whispered, setting his hand on his thigh. Still nothing from him, sighing, I climbed off the floor and made my way to the sitting room. I opened the door to a very cheerful Sophia, “It sounded really quiet, so I thought I wouldn’t be interrupting,” she gave me a wink with a cheeky grin, “I planned for us all to have brunch instead of breakfast since the morning after a full moon tends to run a little later than normal, aaaaannnnnnd…” she wiggled her eyebrows at me suggestively. “Oh, um…” I quickly pulled her inside and shut the door behind he
The sun peeked over the edge of the horizon just before we started making our way back down to the clearing. Nathan and Dmitri had been quiet the last few hours. I assumed it was because they were having a conversation the rest of us weren’t meant to hear. I didn’t know if I could listen in, or even if I should try. It wouldn’t be fair of me to keep my own secrets but intrude on theirs. ‘Anyone want to race down?’ Blake found new enthusiasm as the sky changed to a bluish-pink. ‘I’m game,’ Lalita challenged, his cheerful attitude seemed to perk her up as well. They set off down the hillside, followed by a handful of enforcers and most of the females. The
I let myself fall slightly behind; then kept the pace to maintain the gap. Dmitri, Blake and the female wolves kept pace with me as the rest of the enforcers ran together ahead of us, Nathan at the head of their charge. It was a long way to the rocky shelf that they ran up the hillside too every run. Dmitri had pointed it out on a map for me the night before, and I was just enjoying the feeling of wind in my fur and dirt beneath my paws as we ran. ‘You’re toying with him,’ Dmitri accused. ‘Only a little bit,’ I teased and picked up my pace for a moment to close the gap a few feet. ‘He’s going to be very grumpy for days,’ He teased back. ‘I warned him, you warned him,’ I mocked. ‘6, Princess,’ he warned, but I could feel his amusement. We continued through the trees, racing up the slope, closing the gap a little more every so often. When our group was a few feet behind the enforcers, Na
