The pounding in my ears was so deafening that it was getting harder to focus on more than one thing at a time right now. I just wanted to give into the rage churning through me and lash out at all of them. Scream, punch, kick, whatever chaos it took to get my point across. They all had played a part in this ludicrous declaration of lunacy and I didn’t know who I was supposed hate the most for it right now.
The closest candidates were the muscle bound mongrels that had wrestled me down to my knees while restraining my arms behind me. They’d already failed to prevent me from cracking my knuckles against their ring leader’s jaw; right after he’d ordered me to kneel in submission before him. I was almost certain I’d have bruises on my knees from hitting the hardwood floor so hard, and up and down my arms from where their meat hooks clawed at me. But they were just brain dead drones following orders, incapable of producing an original thought on their own. I wanted to rip their arms off and beat them with them, but I don’t think I hated them the most right now.
Maybe it should be my parents. After all, they didn’t hesitate to comply with any of the demands that were being made. They just stood there with their heads bowed, agreeing that the time had come to pay old debts. Our family was refugees, barely allowed to live within their borders. But my parents were behaving as if these monsters were the absolute authority. Neither had looked me in the eye since I’d walked into the room. Betrayal could be a legitimate reason to hate them, and this was as deep as a betrayal could run.
No, the top of my shit-list had to be the smug asshole towering over me. Dmitri Volkov, the Alpha of the Opalescent Moon Pack. He was exactly what you’d picture an Alpha to be; tall with broad shoulders and an expensive suit pulled taut over the massive muscles beneath it. I suppose most would’ve called him handsome, with his startling ice blue eyes, and thick, slightly shaggy black hair framing his perfectly calm face. He even had a chiseled square jaw, complete with chin dimple. I wanted to rip that face off, starting with that smug little smirk plastered on his lips.
He grabbed my chin firmly in his hand, forcing me to look up at him so he could inspect my own face easier. He was interrogating my parents about every facet of my life while we stared directly into one another’s eyes, both refusing to be the first to look away. His questions ranged from the kind of diet I was on, my grades at school, any training I had acquired, too how many human friends I seemed close with. He even went as far as questioning them about my feminine health and cycle, which seemed to make everyone else in the room uncomfortable, while I seethed.
The more I fought against the hands that held me in place, the wider the arrogant smile spread across his face. He paused in his questioning to push my hair out of my face with his free hand and tuck a stray red curl behind my ear, “Are you sure she gets enough sunlight? Her skin is practically as pale as porcelain,” his thumb slid along my cheek. “And whose side of your family does she get such unusually bright green eyes?”
He turned away from me to compare my features with those of my parents, who looked like they’d just flown in from Greece. I can’t say that I’m ashamed of how things played out from there. I had made my position clear and if he wanted to keep this game of cruelty going, I was more than happy to oblige.
While no one could see the murderous glint in my eyes, I took my opening. Twisting my chin free of his grasp and planting my feet firmly underneath me, I lunged. My body surged forwards almost a foot, dragging my throng of live restraints with me. I hadn’t been able to wrench my arms free, but there was no way in hell I was going to waste their momentary surprise. I bit down on the fleshy spot of his hand between his forefinger and thumb where my chin was previously being held. The warm coppery tang of blood flooded my mouth and dripped down my chin.
My jaw clenched, locking my teeth in place so he couldn’t pull his hand free without leaving a significant chunk behind. I refused to let my disappointment in the fact that he hadn’t uttered so much as a grunt of discomfort deter me from keeping my teeth buried. He had at least stopped mid sentence and turned to stare back at me, his eyes a little wider and his mouth hanging open.
We stared at each other until a hand smacked my face, forcing my head to roll back from the force of the blow as my jaw went slack. No one else moved a muscle or said a word as he stared down at his hand and the blood oozing out of the crescent moon shaped gash my teeth had left behind. I however, couldn’t hold back the maniacal smile that twisted my lips. I hoped it healed into an ugly red scar, as a constant reminder that he wouldn’t control me, ever.
“Alexandria!” My mother cried out in horror, finally breaking the silence. “I’m so sorry,” she groveled, quickly shifting from outrage, to obedient servant so easily that it made my head spin. “I’ll go fetch the first aid kit!” She scampered out of the room so fast she practically tripped over her own feet.
“Traitor,” that was the word that came to my mind, my mouth to dry to much more anyway. This pack had granted our family sanctuary, so that we wouldn’t be hunted or killed off as rouges. But we’d always lived on the outskirts of their territory, never included in any pack activities. We were so excluded that I attended a human school. All my friends were human and our neighbors too. Why did she treat him with such reverence, when he’d never done more than allow us to exist? Especially when I was the price to pay for that existence?
I wasn’t exactly sure who had slapped me but my money was on oaf he’d called Beta. He was the only other person within reach of me that didn’t already have their hands full with holding me back. I would have to repay him in kind another time. As it was, my anger was the only thing that let me fight through the dizzying sensation of the blow. My eyes came back into focus slowly, almost like stepping out of a dark tunnel into sunlight, just to see him watching me. Pulling on the angry fire ripping through me, I pushed forward again.
They were ready this time, and 2 more enforcers lunged forward, helping to keep me restrained securely. It was comical to me that it took 6 large men to hold one 18-year-old girl. Funnier still when, you knew that they were supposed to be some of the strongest lycans of the pack, and I was practically just a meek little human girl. He slowly smiled again as they wrestled me back down onto my knees.
Returning with our first-aid kit, my mother rushed in and knelt on the floor beside him. “Alpha, may I tend your wound?” He held his hand out to her absentmindedly; those icy blue eyes still enthralled with me. “I’m s-so s-sorry,” my mother stammered as she cleaned the wound. Damn his quick healing, it’d already stopped bleeding before she started to wrap a roll of gauze around his hand. “I assure you we raised her better, she’s never had an outburst like this before in her life. I’m so embarrassed by her behavior.” I glared at her in disbelief. She was embarrassed by my behavior? I wasn’t the one handing over my only child to the Alpha of a pack that didn’t even consider us to be pack members because of a deal made 16 years ago with his parents.
“She’s very,” his head tilted slightly as smile crept across his lips, “spirited.”
My mother nodded, keeping her eyes down and stuffing things back inside of the kit. “You’re very gracious Alpha,” she thanked him like it was a great compliment.
“Perhaps now would be the perfect time for us to have that coffee. I still have so many questions to ask about my new acquisition and a few details to iron out about.” He smiled warmly, while my parents nodded obediently. “We’ll talk in the other room to avoid any further outbursts. Please, lead the way…” he gestured with his uninjured hand.
My parents walked out of the room, refusing to look in my direction even as they passed by me. They weren’t even going to say anything to me? Not a good-bye or anything?
“Nathan,” he addressed the man I assumed had slapped me; “I’d like to spare her parents anymore unpleasantness tonight.” He tapped his chin thoughtfully as he looked me over, “Strip her down to the essentials; I want to leave everything from this place behind. And have her bound and gagged to contain any future tantrums.” He took a few steps to follow the same route my parents took out of the room, but paused in the doorway, “try to make sure my merchandise isn’t damaged any further if you can help it.”
“Of course, Alpha,” Nathan nodded. “I’ll do my best.”
“I’ll see you later my pet,” he gave me a little wave as he winked at me. A soft laugh escaped his mouth as I tried to lunge after him again. “Very spirited,” his voice faded with his departure around the corner.
I knew it was futile, but I kept trying to go after him anyway. The grip of 12 large hands held me firmly in place, no matter how hard I tried to break free of their grasp. I’d already burned through most of the adrenalin that had fueled my earlier success, and without it, there was no hope for me. Eventually my body sagged in their hold, defeated. “Let’s try to get this done and over with quickly lads,” Nathan dropped the small duffle bag he’d been carrying onto the floor beside me. Kneeling in front of me I finally got a decent look at him so that I could commit his face to memory; I still owed him one for slapping me. The Beta was a few inches shorter than his Alpha, but still taller than me. I’d had a hard time seeing his face as he stood off to my side and I was preoccupied. He had dark brown hair, cut very short on the back and sides, but long enough on top for it to curl a little. He looked me over with big, brown eyes the color of dark honey. H
Nathan gave his Alpha a nod, watching him walk up the stairs and out of sight. Pulling me from the cargo space, he held me cradled in his arms, like he was carrying a sleeping child. Leaning against him offered some warmth against the cold, and it felt less exposed than being ass up over a shoulder. It also let me see where we were going as we walked. What they called a pack house looked more like a Tudor mansion mixed with an old gothic church. Blake closed up the hatch, following close behind as Nathan carried me inside. “Warn the boys all to behave; it’s already been a long enough night.” He paused just before stepping through the double door entryway at the top of the stairs, “If you still want a chance to improve your position, be ready to speak up when the time comes.” “Of course, Beta,” with a nod, Blake jogged off ahead of us to do as he was told. Nathan moved inside, weaving through a series of rooms and halls until we got to
It was easier to forgive Blake for tossing me up over his shoulder now that I’d had a moment to look him in the eye. He was about my height, and didn’t have the same bulky muscles as the others. It was probably just easier to carry me this way without dropping me. If I’d been fully clothed I wouldn’t even be as exposed as I felt. I lost track of how many turns we made and flights of stairs we climbed, but we didn’t seem to cross paths with anyone else as he carried me through the house. We eventually came to a stop in a long hallway that had 3 sets of ornately carved double doors at the far end. He opened and carried me through the black set, into a sitting room with large overstuffed black leather and dark wood furniture. After flipping on a light, he shut the doors to the hallway and carried me through another room that looked like it was set up as another office. We passed by the desk through yet another door that opened up into a bedroom. Blake, se
The sharp tap-tap-tap of a finger knocking on a door jolted me out of my blank gaze into the dark. My heart immediately started racing, as a new fear settled in my gut. The tapping came again, with the sound of footsteps coming close. Pushing myself up, I struggled to remember how to sit the way Blake had shown me. On my knees, sit back on my feet… braid back, was it palms up or down on my thighs? There was a muffled conversation just outside the doors to the main hall. I couldn’t make out what was being said. I could hear the soft lilt of a woman laughing and then Blake’s acceptance of his dismissal when the doors opened. “Goodnight, Alpha,” then the closing of doors. I could hear heavy steps as someone walked confidently through all of the dark rooms. He passed before me, disappearing into one of the closed doors I hadn’t been through yet, an adjoining bathroom. Finally, a light flipped on. The sudden brightness blinded me for a moment, so that I had to squint to see
“You couldn’t hold your wolf in check for one damn night,” a woman’s voice shouted in the bathroom doorway. He had left me under the running water at least half an hour ago. “Dimi, you promised to give her time to settle in,” she called, turning the water off and wrapping a plush robe around my shoulders. “Don’t get your panties in a bunch,” he grumbled from the bedroom, “I only tested the waters a little bit.” He filled the doorway, towel still wrapped around his hips, “I sent for Candice, didn’t I? Speaking of, I’d like that gone before she gets here so that I can at least try to enjoy my distraction.” Removing the collar from my neck, she frowned up at me; I stood at least 6 inches taller than her. Her long hair was pulled back into a high pony tail, like a waterfall of dark chocolate waves. She had the same ice blue eyes as him, the same gold tan, same full lips. Where he was built of solid muscle, she was made up of soft curves and lean muscle. “
An ornate red garment box was delivered to her rooms and waiting for us on her couch when we woke up. Sophie had warned me last night to expect something like this. Inside the box was a long white, gauzy nightgown with long slits up each side of the skirt, a deep neckline and bare back. I was going to be naked without being naked in it as it barely covered anything. There were also white silk ropes to bind me with and an accompanying gag. She promised me that I’d never be bound as long as I was in her rooms, but he wouldn’t hesitate to move me to his rooms if I “misbehaved” in any way. Even as Luna she could only do so much. Today she was planning to play the little sister card to negotiate what she called a gentleman’s agreement with him. It wouldn’t be anything formal like the contract that promised me to him, but she was confident that he’d hold up any deal they made. My job was to just sit there like a decoration. I helped her drag the large tufted
He led the way through his suite all the way back into his bedroom. He eyed me warily as I immediately made my way to the velvet cushion in the corner and sat in my new formal resting position. Sophie had been right about everything that happened during their short negotiations this morning, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to continue following her instructions. As long as I was sitting quietly, he was likely to forget that I was there and burry himself in his work. Sniffing his shirt he made a face and chuckled, “Sophie’s always right.” He pulled the t-shirt off over his head, tossing it on the bed. “Can you be a good girl like she claims,” he arched an eyebrow, “Or do I have to get you all wet again.” I gave him a small shrug but kept a mask of indifference on my face. “Then at least make yourself useful and let them know to change out all of the bedding,” he disappeared into the bathroom, partially closing the door. After a minute or two, there was a
With a low animalistic growl, he yanked my hips forward, smashing our bodies together. My mind scrambled for a way out of this. His lips crashed into mine, in a rough and unpleasant kiss. He pressed too hard, bruising my lips and his tongue jabbed into my mouth like it was trying to spear my tonsils as his fingers tangled in my hair and pulled my head back. How did someone who could elicit reactions from my body with so much finesse not know how to kiss? A kiss! It had been one of his terms at breakfast, a real kiss of my own volition. It was an act of desperation, and it could backfire, but anything else would better than this unyielding torrent of tongue stabbing that could only lead to darker impulses. Surprisingly, he yielded as I gently pushed his chest back, forcing him to pull away. He looked down at me, his eyes dark and brooding. Forcing a small smile, I curled my arms up and around his neck, letting my fingers run through his hair. “Let’s try
If you've enjoyed following Selene's jouney so far, I wold like to invite you to continue with her as she explores what it means to be an incarnation of the moon goddess in "Rite of Power" I am posting it as it's own story and until it passes through the application stage, the only way to add it to your library is through the mobile and PC website for Goodnovel. I have already posted the first 3 chapters and will be contining to post 3 chapters a week, one each on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The only reason there is more beyond Rite of Submission is because of all of you. (and my beta readers who practically screamed at me that there had to be more). I hope to see all your wonderful comments and notes there. If you haven't noticed yet, I do actually look through and read your comments, even the ones correcting my grammar. And that brings me to a very special thank you to the unofficial editors: Cjallen24, George Calloni, Mylo, Noelle Mounce, SpaceKonijn and the MVP: Sacha De N
In the week leading up to our formal introduction of me as an Alpha to the rest of the world, Nathan had doubled down on my training sessions. We had our one on one sessions in the morning, group sessions before lunch, and sparing matches in the evening before dinner. The sparring matches had become something I looked forward too, even though most of the 2 hour span turned out to be a second one on one with Nathan. To keep any potential sparring partners from holding back, we’d added a unique incentive. If they could pin me, and get me to tap out, they were given a day off of all their regular duties. If I got them to tap out in less than 5 minutes, they spent the next day doing all the worst duties. The first day had brought a lot of eager challengers. Unfortunately, I’d learned to be
As promised, I’d begged for most of the night, but not for forgiveness. Even with my healing abilities, I woke up with sore, protesting muscles and flaming red buttocks. It made it that much more difficult to slip out of bed without waking him as the sun started peeking over the horizon. I wanted to try to actually learn how to train today, before training in a group with Sophie and the newly selected female enforcers. I’d had to pour the sway on extra thick to get Nathan to agree to meet with me without telling Dmitri about it. “You said sunrise,” he grumbled as I made my way into the sparing room under the house. “Careful Beta,” I warned, knowing it irked him to b
‘Sophia would like to know if you two are going to be indisposed all day,’ Dmitri’s groan told me that Nathan had linked both of us and awoken him as well. ‘Has she had breakfast set up in her rooms,’ his thought sounded more annoyed than he felt as his mouth kissed my shoulder, making my skin tingle. ‘No, Alpha,’ Nathan sounding just as annoyed, ‘As per your mate’s suggestion, she’s had our breakfast meeting set up in the main dining room today.’ I wondered if he could feel my eyes roll through the link. ‘Coffee,’ I tr
I found myself breathless, with my face smashed into the mattress. Struggling, I sucked in a breath to cope with the burn that radiated across my stinging buttocks, as his hand connected to shove my whole body forward; sliding me off of his expended member. The sudden emptiness made me acutely aware of the dull ache throbbing between my legs. My legs felt like limp noodles, not responding to my attempts to stand or at least roll over onto my side. “Haven’t you had your fill yet?” he practically snarled. My endeavors to assure him it was only me now died as muffles into the bed. The sound slap on my ass ripped a sharp cry from my throat. ‘It’s me! It’s me! It’s
I feel asleep with a sense of serenity I’d never felt before. Waking now and stretching my arms, I can’t help but worry if I’d dreamt it. Blue eyes, not black pools when he said he loved me. I jerked upright when my hand found only empty space beside me. ‘Dmitri?’ I tried to picture his face as I reached my thoughts out to him. Relief settled over me like a warm blanket, ‘Welcome back to the land of the living, Princess.’ I could feel his relief as well, ‘You looked so peaceful. I didn’t want to disturb you. I’ll wrap things up here and be up in a few minutes.’ I settled back into the pillows, feeling like I could float up to the ceiling at any moment. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you look so content,” his adoration washed over me, with a tinge of jealousy. My cheeks hurt from smiling so big, “You love me,” butterflies swirled in my stomach as he looked down at me. He frowned, “Have I really made you question that?”
To much time had passed and he was still just staring at me with a blank expression as I knelt there holding his hand in mine. One of us needed to say something eventually. I had a limited number of options before me, and I’d need time to prepare either way he decided. A knock on the main doors derailed my train of thought. His face was still blank, “I’ll go see who that is, and what they want,” I whispered, setting his hand on his thigh. Still nothing from him, sighing, I climbed off the floor and made my way to the sitting room. I opened the door to a very cheerful Sophia, “It sounded really quiet, so I thought I wouldn’t be interrupting,” she gave me a wink with a cheeky grin, “I planned for us all to have brunch instead of breakfast since the morning after a full moon tends to run a little later than normal, aaaaannnnnnd…” she wiggled her eyebrows at me suggestively. “Oh, um…” I quickly pulled her inside and shut the door behind he
The sun peeked over the edge of the horizon just before we started making our way back down to the clearing. Nathan and Dmitri had been quiet the last few hours. I assumed it was because they were having a conversation the rest of us weren’t meant to hear. I didn’t know if I could listen in, or even if I should try. It wouldn’t be fair of me to keep my own secrets but intrude on theirs. ‘Anyone want to race down?’ Blake found new enthusiasm as the sky changed to a bluish-pink. ‘I’m game,’ Lalita challenged, his cheerful attitude seemed to perk her up as well. They set off down the hillside, followed by a handful of enforcers and most of the females. The
I let myself fall slightly behind; then kept the pace to maintain the gap. Dmitri, Blake and the female wolves kept pace with me as the rest of the enforcers ran together ahead of us, Nathan at the head of their charge. It was a long way to the rocky shelf that they ran up the hillside too every run. Dmitri had pointed it out on a map for me the night before, and I was just enjoying the feeling of wind in my fur and dirt beneath my paws as we ran. ‘You’re toying with him,’ Dmitri accused. ‘Only a little bit,’ I teased and picked up my pace for a moment to close the gap a few feet. ‘He’s going to be very grumpy for days,’ He teased back. ‘I warned him, you warned him,’ I mocked. ‘6, Princess,’ he warned, but I could feel his amusement. We continued through the trees, racing up the slope, closing the gap a little more every so often. When our group was a few feet behind the enforcers, Na
