I saw her as soon as we pulled up, she was the only girl in the office that showed kindness. The others just wanted to fuck Jack. I got in my position behind Jack and the other guys. Most people thought we were his only guards, they would freak if they knew how many he had posted around him. I took my position by the front door, I knew all of Jacks enemies and none would make it past me alive. As soon as she saw that Jack was in the building, she pulled herself away from the wall and made her way towards me. I felt sorry for the girl, I knew that things were bad for her at home. I noticed the long tops she wore even when it was hot. The days off she would take and when she came back, she always wore a bit more makeup. I knew what she was hiding, and I wanted to help her, but she always kept everyone at arm’s length. I knew that the only people in the office she would talk to was me and her supervisor Gail. I also spoke with Gail, but it was all about her. We both knew what was going on, we just didn’t know how to help her. “Why did you wait till boss went in” I asked.
“Because the women here are crazy, and I like to fly under the radar” She laughed and it warmed my heart, she didn’t do it often. I had noticed that she has started to become happier the last few days. Hopefully, she had found the strength to leave her husband and her life will start to get better. I watched her go inside and went back to watching the street.
“I like that girl, she is the only sane chick in that office. Oh no that old bird Gail is cool too” Grant advised. He was positioned on a building over the road and was an expert sniper.
“Yeah, she seems happier the last few days, I am hoping she has finally left her abusive husband”.
“Don’t know man she still wears the ring on her finger” I was shocked, I had not even noticed. I suppose that’s why he was the sniper, he noticed all the small details. Suddenly she came back outside and handed me a coffee.
“Can’t have you falling asleep on the job”.
“Thanks to you and your kindness, that will never happen” I winked at her and noticed a small blush on her cheek as she went back inside and straight to her office. I liked where I stood as I had a good view of her office so I could make sure she was ok, and the other girls did not give her a hard time. Thankfully, they did not even seem to notice her. I suppose since she was the only one who did not dress in skin-tight short dresses.
“I wish she knew about me so she could bring me a coffee” Grant sighed.
“You know she would too, she would feel sorry for you laid down in the cold” Talking to Grant was one of the ways we used to pass the time. Things had been quiet on the other side of Jacks business, people thought that he was rich due to his business here. Little did they know that he was a lot bigger in the underground business sector. Hence the fact he had a lot of bodyguards. We were trying to find one guy though, he was a mystery, and he was working with Jack’s rival and trying to get to Jack. We were trying to find out who the guy was. We only had a picture, but no other details and every search was coming up empty. So, you can imagine my surprise when the guy suddenly comes and stands over the road from me. “He is here”
“Who?” Jack grunted back.
“The guy we have been looking for, he is stood right over the road. Does he know about this identity?” Jack was good at keeping his two identities separate.
“No one knows who I really am, he must be here for something else. Keep an eye on him”.
I looked up in the direction of Grant and nodded my head in the direction of the guy. I could not see him, but I knew that he would see me. I had been so busy talking to Jack and glaring at the guy that I did not notice that the nice girl Charlotte had left and was walking over to the guy. I saw her give me a small look over her shoulder and I felt my blood run cold. It was not hard to put two and two together. She looked scared walking over to him, I knew that the man we were after was her husband.
“Jack, he just left with Charlotte”.
“That’s the girl who does the brochures and advertising for me”.
“That’s the one, she is also has an abusive husband and that jackarse is her husband”.
“Grant grab Jeff and follow them, I will finish up here and we will go in the car”.
“Please make sure she is ok” I didn’t realise I spoke out loud till Grant answered me.
“I like her too man, I will make sure she is ok. I can not say the same for the mother fucker of a husband though”.
“Make sure you make it hurt”.
“Oh man I plan on it”.
I kept looking in the direction that he had taken her, but they had left my sight along time ago. I wanted to contact Grant, but he needed to focus. So, I stood fretting waiting for Jack to hurry the hell up. Finally, after what felt like hours he came out and we walked to his car. The other guys got in the front, and I got in the back with Jack.
“I am really worried about her, she had seemed happy the last few days. I thought she had left him, now I am thinking that he might just not have been home for a few days”.
“You like this girl or something?”
“Not like that, more like a brotherly kind of way. She is a sweet girl, and she brings me coffee” Grant gave us the location and we arrived just as I saw him pick Charlotte up and throw her against a door frame. I had no idea what he had done to her, but she was just in her nickers and her blouse was ripped.

Charlotte’s POVI was shocked when I opened my eyes and saw Ryan with our boss. I thought a saw a glimpse of worry on Jack’s face, but then it went back to his usual look of stone so maybe I was wrong. Ryan on the other hand looked super worried. “Charlotte hun are you ok? Since she was only in nickers and a bra, I could see the small scars and bruises that littered her body. I felt sick thinking that she had been suffering and I didn’t notice.
