"How far are you ready to travel?"

As Cassandra's black magic wrapped closer around me, the words reverberated over the searing abyss, icy and mocking. My brand flared agonizingly, flames raging against no burning shadows.

Dax gripped onto my wrist, unwilling to let go despite the stinging fire now pouring from my cursed mark as his claws sank into the earth anchored him. His amber eyes radiated great will, daring destiny itself to test him.

Sebastian snarling from behind yanked me back with unrelenting force. "We're not losing her!"

But Cassandra's laughter twisted over the black emptiness like a frigid hurricane.

Luna, everything comes at a cost. Are you willing to pay yours?

Dax and Sebastian ripped me away from the black tendrils one last rush, sending lethal fractures spiraling over the cracked ground. Cassandra's cursed altar was sucked down in a cataclysmic explosion of shadows and fire.

Breathless and beaten, we dropped hard on the charred woodland floor, but alive—for now.

"I, Sebastian King, reject you, Zahia Toussaint, as my mate and my Luna."The words snatched the air from my lungs like a physical blow. The magnificent hall of the Crescent Moon Pack collapsed in startled quiet around me, the murmurs of the dead pack members echoing as fast as my heart crushed."Say it again," I said, my voice scarcely audible over the roaring in my ears. that shook. Of course, I had misinterpreted him. Clearly, my friend—the man the Moon Goddess chose for me—could not be fronting everyone and depriving me of all I had ever known.Sebastian's keen amber eyes grew steely as though staring at me already caused him difficulty. "You heard me, Zaia. Our bond was a mistake. You are not fitting to stand beside me."The woman who had no right to be here, Cassandra, gently rested her crimson lips twisting into a triumphant smile on his arm. She moved in closer to him, as though claiming something for everyone to view. My friend did not distance himself. My throat became knott

"You're trespassing."From the darkness, low and ominous, the growl vibrated through the woods. My wolf bristled under my skin as my instincts screamed to flee. I stayed on ground. Running was not a choice; not with a life developing inside me nor anywhere to run to.I grabbed the bag's strap tighter and looked at the shadows. My voice stronger than I felt, I continued, "I didn't come here to cause trouble." "I basically need to pass through."The man moved fluidly and predatory ahead. Sharp amber eyes shining with malice emerged from the moonlight filtering through the canopy above. He was tall, with broad shoulders and a stone-like icy attitude. His earthy, wild, untamed smell set him out as a renegade."Passing through, huh?" His lips curved into a smile, but it lacked humor. "You think you can walk into rogue territory without consequences? You're either brave or stupid, Luna." .He spat the term stung more than I would have admitted. "Not a Luna," I murmured softly, forcing my ch

"Stop staring at me like I'm going to break.".Before I could stop them, sharp and brittle as glass, the words fled me. My chest heaving, the weight of the past few days avalanche-like on me. Dax leaned against a tree, arms folded, his golden gaze unflinching and his expression invisible. He replied squarely, pointing to the homemade bandage on my side: "You're bleeding." And your legs seem to be shaking. Keep pushing yourself like way, and you will break.I hated the way his directness tore through the thin veneer of control I clung to. I have no luxury of breaking." Clearly,’ he said, his voice tinged with contempt. "Because stubbornness alone will keep you alive out here.”I looked away, not letting him glimpse the tears about to flow. Not cry. Not today. Not directly in front of him. But the pain in my chest, the link still frayed but not completely severed, tore at my will.Dax answered, "Zaia," gentler this time. I turned nothing. I could not.“What?I caught me shaking in voice

You have to pay attention to me before it is too late.Low and threatening, full of intensity I had never heard before, Dax's voice broke through the tense calm of the burned battlefield His golden eyes locked into mine as if eager me to grasp something I cannot yet perceive.I straightened; the previous fight still pulsed force in my veins. At my fingers, silver flames flashed weakly, their warmth known but erratic—too wild, too erratic."We don't have time for warnings," I shot past him towards the fallen altar still dimly blazing with cursed symbols. "We must have responses."Dax grabbed my wrist and made me stop. His visage sharp and uncompromising, his claws hardly sheathed." The mark is changing you." His voice was extremely serious yet harsh. You have sensed it, haven't you?Though the truth in his comments was clear, I yanked my arm away and felt wrath. "I'm under control on it.""No," Dax snarled, moving forward and his presence overwhelming. It's under control you. Like she

"This finishes tonight."Sharp and relentless, my voice carried a strength I had just lately started to sense over the tight, shadowed woodland. Under my skin, the silver-crimson light of my mark pulsed weakly in time with the thrum of power in the air.Dax slid to my side, his face a combination of pride and sharp will. Claws extended, his amber eyes glowed with lethal determination."You're ready for this," he continued, voice low but calm, yet I sensed the flutter of worry under his brave."I have to be.". My eyes fixed on the black horizon, where whirled shadows danced far away— Cassandra's army was approaching.Sebastian discreetly came out from the tree line behind us, his dominating presence hard to overlook. His brilliant blue eyes locked with me, incomprehensible as usual."This is not only a struggle for survival," Sebastian replied coldly. "Your claim is to the power she seeks."Whispers of a familiar, nasty voice carried on the howling, black magic-driven twisting of the w

My flesh was touched by cold hands pushing me into the inky depths."She's ours now," Cassandra's voice murmured, spiteful and icy.The blackness broke suddenly into an almost blinding stream of silver. Warm breeze stroking my cheeks smelled faintly of new rain and wildflowers. Blinking confused, I found myself standing in a calm field beneath a brilliant full moon.Emerging from the dazzling radiance, ethereal and royal, the Moon Goddess had flowing silve
