Adam walked down the corridor, sat down on a chair near the room where Anna was, and put his hands over his face, knowing that his men were looking at him disapprovingly. He couldn't change what he had just done, but he felt like it. Not even the richest of men could undo what he had done. Anna didn't deserve to be treated like that. He understood that she was still young, and that she thought differently from him, and couldn't yet understand certain things about the life she led. He needed to make deals. He wasn't indifferent to her feelings. Quite the opposite. He reciprocated them. For the first time, his heart surrendered to the charms of a woman. He believed it was a distraction on his part. She arrived little by little and won everyone over, including him. But what irritated him was Sarah's insinuation, as they were leaving for the hospital, that the girl wanted to die. That she had thrown herself down the stairs. And he remembered those words with hatred. Now he could o
“We're not against you in the way you think.” Caricatura said seriously. “We just don't like what you did to the girl. You can manipulate us into following your orders and exert fascination and adoration on the werewolves, but you can't stop our feelings or control them. We will help you look for Anna. It's also in our interest that she returns home. We've gotten used to her. We love her and who we are when she's around.” Adam looked at him gratefully, but it didn't show in his eyes. His men knew him for his coldness, and didn't believe he was capable of even a noble feeling when he was contradicted. “Then don't wait any longer.” Adam said, taking the key out of Caricature's hand, and got into the car, starting it. Kate and Sarah were waiting for him at the gate. He had completely forgotten about Sarah. He parked anyway, and went into the house, followed by the two women who were asking a lot of questions, and went to the bar in his office, poured himself a drink, an
Adam didn't sleep that night, calling all the humans to see if they had found her. Then he searched the minds and eyes of the other werewolves. Finally, the men and the werewolves, tired of answering their cell phones and having the Alpha on their minds, and not having a positive answer for him, said they would keep looking, and as soon as they had news, they would let him know. Even so, he couldn't force his body to go to bed, and stayed in the office all night drinking. Jenna called Anna's father, who answered quickly, as she never called unless it was urgent. He couldn't ignore her. His daughter must have been thinking the worst of him, but he was determined to explain to her what had happened. “Jenna?” “It's me.” “It's good to hear your voice. I'll call Anna tomorrow. She must be very upset with me...” “I didn't hear from her either until a week ago. You should put me on your list of priorities. Or am I nothing to you but a spy?” “I'm sorry, darling. I coul
“Good morning, everyone.” Adam said hello and began to serve himself. He was starving. He couldn't remember eating anything apart from the broth that Jenna brought and made him eat, and despite what he would do to her, and he was sure she knew it, she kept walking behind him until his plate was empty. She was the only woman there who deserved his consideration. He would try to be kind while he killed her. Everyone responded to her greeting. Kate and Sarah remained silent, as if they were afraid of some unexpected reaction from the boss. The men, on the other hand, chatted normally. But they talked about the places they would be covering that day, none of the usual jokes or laughter. Adam watched everything that was going on around him, without any of them noticing. There was an atmosphere of relief between them and Adam knew that he had burdened the Werewolves with his useless feelings for too long. After eating two loaves of bread with butter, and leaving for the third, he
Adam thought for a while. He wanted her to end up coming back to him. He could give her time to think right there in the mansion. At least she would know that it was within her reach. But she wouldn't accept that. That's why he wouldn't give up looking for her. But he would only do it for another three months. If he didn't find her, he would understand that her father had taken her away. And one day he would look for her. “Okay.” Adam agreed. “If you find her, let me know and after three years I'll come and get her.” “Three years? Is there anything you're going to do in all that time?” “No. But she will. Put her in school. Here... near me, she won't be able to study, because... I can't get away from her.” He said and turned off his cell phone. There was nothing more to be done. He wouldn't look for her anymore. He would wait for Henry to take her out of the country, and let her have time to mature. Then he would look for her, and she would never see the sunlight again.
As soon as he arrived in the dining room, his father and Maxwell stood up like gentlemen. All of them, with looks of admiration. Nanny and Beth remained seated, but they were also in awe. Anna felt triumphant at that moment and walked confidently to her seat next to Maxwell. “You look beautiful, my child.” Her father said, but he didn't seem satisfied with her choice of clothes, so he sat down and Maxwell followed him. “I almost didn't recognize you... That's not really your style...” He said and Anna noticed a slight tone of reproach in her father's voice, which revealed that the impression she had gotten of his displeasure was real. “I thought you'd be pleased to see me looking more... Sophisticated.” “Sophisticated? That's not quite how I define your choice... You're still very young.” His father replied and watched the food being placed on the table with a frown. “You seem to have prepared yourself like these dishes. To be devoured. You're not old enough to wear tha
Anna's eyes widened, and she stopped the drink that was on its way to her mouth. She had forgotten that detail. Helen didn't know that Ian wasn't Maxwell's son. How could she have known? The two of them looked too much alike. She put the cup down on the table and looked the nanny in the eye. “We got married after Ian was born. And until then, we hadn't slept together again.” It wasn't entirely a lie. He couldn't tell her the truth, because he couldn't trust anyone like that. That woman loved her husband and could report their relationship and Anna would be deported. “But then, why did you get married? It doesn't make sense...” “Maxwell and I wanted Ian to grow up thinking that we were a happy couple... That we got married and only then had him...” “He'll be able to see the lie in the date on your marriage certificate!” “Don't be naive. Have you ever asked your parents to check their wedding date? Nobody does that.” Anna said impatiently. “You... Did you
Maxwell was taken by surprise for the second time that evening. “With all my soul.” He found himself confessing. “Then you shouldn't have lain with her.” Anna's father said and crossed his arms. “I don't understand your reasoning...” “Do you think I'm blind? I know everything. I know how much she drank yesterday.” Anna's father said as if it were an accusation. “Yes. She drank, and she could have chosen today to pretend that nothing had happened. But even without drinking, she made a point of celebrating this day and talking about us.” “She loves Adam. She's his wife! And you will be a stone in her shoe in the future.” “She doesn't love him anymore. She loves me, and she's my wife now.” “I don't doubt that she believes that. I don't doubt that you fervently wish to believe that, but I'm experienced, Maxwell. She loves your brother and wants to be with you because you're too much like him. You're both young and it's natural to be attracted, but the day
