VIOLET

“Fuck my life.”

I cursed underneath my breath, scrambling to my feet. If it was truly rogues, then staying there would spell my doom. I didn’t waste any time and began running in the opposite direction from the howls.

The cold wind whipped past my face but I didn’t care all too much. All that mattered to me was escaping from them with my life. That was all that was important to me. That was all I cared about. That was all I wanted.

My legs ached with each step I took but I knew I couldn’t dare slow down my pace. Any false step would mean my death. I’d suffered and endured so much these past few days. I couldn’t let it all end here. My fingers were clinging hard onto my bag as I sought to quicken my pace.

My heart began thumping faster as the howls began getting closer. They’d taken notice of me. It would be better if I could transform now and run but it would only slow me down and give them an advantage over me.

I could hear the sound of their growls getting closer and closer. The thud of their feet hitting the ground filled my ears. They were right behind me and I could feel the bloodlust emanating from there. They were definitely after my blood.

I increased my speed and began running faster, picking up the pace as best as I could. I was so engulfed in getting away from them, I didn’t bother taking note of where I was running to. All I could think of was getting away from them.

After some time of running, I noticed I couldn’t hear the sound of their growls. There were no thuds coming from behind me. I slowed down to a stop and looked behind me. They were gone.

“Fucking idiots.” I clicked my tongue, trying to catch my breath.

My chest hurt so bad from running so fast. On the bright side, at least I had managed to escape them. I still didn’t understand why they’d stopped chasing me all of a sudden. Rogues were known to chase down their prey to the ends of the earth.

I pushed away the weird feeling gnawing at my chest and tightened my grip on the bag. I had no idea where I was at all. Just as I was about to bring out the map and try to decipher my whereabouts, my whole body froze.

It was pure primal instinct for an animal to know when it was being watched. I could feel it deep in my bones and didn’t even need anyone to spell it out for me. I wasn’t alone. A low guttural sound made me snap my head to a nearby bush. More growls sounded from all around me.

A small gasp escaped my lips as I watched a number of wolves walk out from different directions. Soon enough, I was surrounded by all of them. I tried to step back but there was one behind me.

I was really in for it now.

The biggest of them, a big black wolf walked up to her and stopped just a little away from her. She felt the urge to flinch back in fear but held her ground. She hadn’t done anything wrong. If it came to it, she would not be going down without a fight.

“Who are you? What do you want from me?” She yelled out to them.

The black wolf growled in response, its eyes glaring at her intently. For a second, she was sure it would definitely attack. What she didn’t expect was for it to slowly shift back into human form. The tall man walked closer to her, eyeing her up and down with a look of suspicion in his eyes.

“I think we’re the ones who should be asking you that.”

The other wolves shifted into a group of men, all of them watching her intently. She had to resist the urge to squirm under their intense gaze. The man in front of her was probably contemplating if he should just kill her off. Her heart sped up at that thought.

“Check her bag.” He said to one of the other men.

The blonde hair man grabbed her bag forcefully and emptied out its contents on the floor. They probably had no interest in what they saw and turned back to her, annoyance reading all over their facial expressions.

“Who do you work for? What allegiance do you serve?” He threw a barrel of questions at her, not giving her the chance to muster a single answer.

“I-

“You’ll be coming with us.”

Without giving me a chance to defend myself, the others grabbed me and began dragging me with them.

“Hey. Wait one second. This isn’t what you think. Who are you? And where the hell am I?”

They didn’t bother answering any of my questions and just dragged me along with them. My heart beat sped up as various scenarios ran through my head. Where were they taking me to? Who were they? I’d heard of people getting kidnapped this way. Was the same thing happening to me? Would I be whisked off to heaven knows where? My body parts sold off?

I tried fighting out of their grip once again and the black hair man turned to glare at me.

“Do that again, and I’ll cut your legs off.” He threatened.

His threat was crystal clear. Obey or suffer the consequences. Shit. Everything was happening so quick, I barely even had any chance to react. I couldn’t ask anything else. Who knew what they would do if provoked to anger.

Right. The best thing to do would be to just cooperate with them and give them what they wanted. Maybe they’d let me go if I did that. It was naïve to think that way but I didn’t have much of a choice. I remained quiet and let them place a bag over my head.

I didn’t expect the painful blow to my head before everything went black.

LUCIAN“How long are they going to keep us waiting?”Zayn’s patience had long since thinned out about twenty minutes ago. It was almost two hours that we’d been ready and waiting.“Seriously, you’d think all they had to do was put on some clothes and shoes.” Zayn grumbled.“You’re forgetting makeup, perfume…” I listed. “And anything else that might suddenly come to memory while they’re getting ready.”Now, he looked borderline offended. “Are you taking my side, or theirs?”“I’m just being the reasonable party over here.” I raised my hands in defeat. He grumbled some more again, eyes wandering to the watch on his hand while he tapped at the ground with his foot.“We’re here.”I turned to find Violet slowly making her way down the stairs hand-in-hand with her accomplice.Every single argument that would have probably left Zayn’s lips that evening instantly died. He looked utterly mesmerized.“Sweet mother of…” He was gawking at that point.“I know, babe.” Reese grinned, letting her mate

LUCIANThe crack of dawn felt like some sort of omen when it came. This wouldn’t be the first summit we were attending. We’d attended plenty before and despite the occasional madness that had taken place, we all came out mostly unscathed. So, what was it with the weird feeling I’d been getting ever since I got up that morning? Nerves? No. That couldn’t possibly it.“You’ve been staring at nothing for a while now.”I turned to find Violet sending me a weird look. “Is everything okay?”“Yeah,” I nodded. “Just thinking is all.”A small smile spread over her face. She leaned forward, then poked the side of my head a little for good measure.“Well don’t let that brain of yours run too crazy,” She grinned. “That’s what you always say.”My gaze fell on the sapphire jewel gleaming from her neck. That broke my hardened look and a smile spread over my face.“Yes, I do.” I smiled again.Violet returned I as always, but for the slightest moment, there was a crack in her composure. “Did something

VIOLET“Come on, come on…”The words were more or less a mumble as they left my mouth. I’d dialed Suna’s line about four times that morning alone but he’d refused to even pick up.The summit was the next day and a small part of me was sure something was going to happen. Things rarely ever panned out the way you expected them to. And with the whole attack that had happened, it wouldn’t be too crazy to assume that something of that nature could happen again.Suna had sided with those men that had attacked us, and if my hunches were correct, this must have been from Tristan.Who else would have a motive to attack us? But that wasn’t the troubling part. Someone had known that we’d gone to BlackThorne. Someone had known that we’d be on that path by that time. There really was a mole, and knowing that didn’t give me the slightest bit of comfort. My phone began to vibrate again. I felt a little skip when I saw the caller id. Suna. He was finally calling me back. The nerve of that bastard.“L

VIOLET“An annual summit?”Lucian nodded, taking out his marker and gesturing to where he’d written annual summit on the whiteboard.“Yes,” His eyes lingered on the people present. To his credit, Zayn was listening attentively, even with his head pressed against Reese’s cheeks. Honestly, their clinginess was something that had to be extensively studied.“The annual summit is an event that holds each year.” Lucian explained. “It’s more or less an open invitation to all packs, both lesser and majors. After the first great war, it was ordained as a sort of resort to peace talks. All packs being invited means there’s better means for truces and what not.”Reese frowned. “Which means West Creak would be there too.”Lucian nodded. “Precisely. Tristan and his beta are going to be there too.”“Now this event is exclusively to the Alphas and Betas of each part but there’s also the afforded inclusion of mates. Which means, we’re all going to be going.”Zayn nodded thoughtfully, eyes focused on

TRISTANI’d been really patient. And it pissed me off to no end that they didn’t understand how hard I was trying for them.“What do you make of everything then?”I turned to fix a stare at the Elder. He’d thought it appropriate to come bother me in the early throes of the matter.“What do you want me to make of it?”He made a sound of frustration. “We have to act smart about this. The other Elders are starting to suspect that something’s amiss. And Lucian’s forces have already gained three of our strongholds. If his movement with the Alliance doesn’t spell an omen, I don’t know what else will.”For a while, I simply stared at him. It was hard holding on to that self-control. Super hard really, when I’d love nothing more than to sock him in that piece of shit face of his.“Are you trying to say I have no control over things then?” I leaned forward. “I’m basically failing, right?”He seemed to shrink even further. “N—No, Alpha. That’s not what I me—”“Then please enlighten me by all me

LUCIAN“How does that even work?”For the last ten minutes, I’d been trying to wrap my head around Violet’s explanation of how water wasn’t wet. This wasn’t the first of such arguments she’d be having with Reese. But this time, she’d taken it upon herself to have the discussion with me while we walked the halls of BlackRidge. We’d just concluded a meeting with Damon and his beta regarding our movements against West Creak’s forces. So far, my men had crossed paths with one of Tristan’s main footholds and were engaging with them.In any cases, I had faith in what my forces could do. But Damon…he was having his misgivings about a couple of members of the North Alliance.I understood why he would. But trust was something we could only hope on. Any little rumors or further misgivings among other members would only spark outrage. Something we couldn’t afford.James…it wouldn’t be hard to assume the darn Beta was whispering different things into Damon’s ear. He could very well be the reason
