“Fuck my life.”
I cursed underneath my breath, scrambling to my feet. If it was truly rogues, then staying there would spell my doom. I didn’t waste any time and began running in the opposite direction from the howls.
The cold wind whipped past my face but I didn’t care all too much. All that mattered to me was escaping from them with my life. That was all that was important to me. That was all I cared about. That was all I wanted.
My legs ached with each step I took but I knew I couldn’t dare slow down my pace. Any false step would mean my death. I’d suffered and endured so much these past few days. I couldn’t let it all end here. My fingers were clinging hard onto my bag as I sought to quicken my pace.
My heart began thumping faster as the howls began getting closer. They’d taken notice of me. It would be better if I could transform now and run but it would only slow me down and give them an advantage over me.
I could hear the sound of their growls getting closer and closer. The thud of their feet hitting the ground filled my ears. They were right behind me and I could feel the bloodlust emanating from there. They were definitely after my blood.
I increased my speed and began running faster, picking up the pace as best as I could. I was so engulfed in getting away from them, I didn’t bother taking note of where I was running to. All I could think of was getting away from them.
After some time of running, I noticed I couldn’t hear the sound of their growls. There were no thuds coming from behind me. I slowed down to a stop and looked behind me. They were gone.
“Fucking idiots.” I clicked my tongue, trying to catch my breath.
My chest hurt so bad from running so fast. On the bright side, at least I had managed to escape them. I still didn’t understand why they’d stopped chasing me all of a sudden. Rogues were known to chase down their prey to the ends of the earth.
I pushed away the weird feeling gnawing at my chest and tightened my grip on the bag. I had no idea where I was at all. Just as I was about to bring out the map and try to decipher my whereabouts, my whole body froze.
It was pure primal instinct for an animal to know when it was being watched. I could feel it deep in my bones and didn’t even need anyone to spell it out for me. I wasn’t alone. A low guttural sound made me snap my head to a nearby bush. More growls sounded from all around me.
A small gasp escaped my lips as I watched a number of wolves walk out from different directions. Soon enough, I was surrounded by all of them. I tried to step back but there was one behind me.
I was really in for it now.
The biggest of them, a big black wolf walked up to her and stopped just a little away from her. She felt the urge to flinch back in fear but held her ground. She hadn’t done anything wrong. If it came to it, she would not be going down without a fight.
“Who are you? What do you want from me?” She yelled out to them.
The black wolf growled in response, its eyes glaring at her intently. For a second, she was sure it would definitely attack. What she didn’t expect was for it to slowly shift back into human form. The tall man walked closer to her, eyeing her up and down with a look of suspicion in his eyes.
“I think we’re the ones who should be asking you that.”
The other wolves shifted into a group of men, all of them watching her intently. She had to resist the urge to squirm under their intense gaze. The man in front of her was probably contemplating if he should just kill her off. Her heart sped up at that thought.
“Check her bag.” He said to one of the other men.
The blonde hair man grabbed her bag forcefully and emptied out its contents on the floor. They probably had no interest in what they saw and turned back to her, annoyance reading all over their facial expressions.
“Who do you work for? What allegiance do you serve?” He threw a barrel of questions at her, not giving her the chance to muster a single answer.
“I-
“You’ll be coming with us.”
Without giving me a chance to defend myself, the others grabbed me and began dragging me with them.
“Hey. Wait one second. This isn’t what you think. Who are you? And where the hell am I?”
They didn’t bother answering any of my questions and just dragged me along with them. My heart beat sped up as various scenarios ran through my head. Where were they taking me to? Who were they? I’d heard of people getting kidnapped this way. Was the same thing happening to me? Would I be whisked off to heaven knows where? My body parts sold off?
I tried fighting out of their grip once again and the black hair man turned to glare at me.
“Do that again, and I’ll cut your legs off.” He threatened.
His threat was crystal clear. Obey or suffer the consequences. Shit. Everything was happening so quick, I barely even had any chance to react. I couldn’t ask anything else. Who knew what they would do if provoked to anger.
Right. The best thing to do would be to just cooperate with them and give them what they wanted. Maybe they’d let me go if I did that. It was naïve to think that way but I didn’t have much of a choice. I remained quiet and let them place a bag over my head.
I didn’t expect the painful blow to my head before everything went black.
VIOLET“I hate this so much.”That had to be the twentieth time I’d say that today alone. And I meant every word of it. I hated my life so, so much.People always said it was wrong to say that. Don’t say you hate your life. Someone else out there has it worse than you.You should be grateful.Well they could shove it up their ass for all I care. I was miserable as hell with no one else to talk to about it.“Fuck,” I groaned, reaching for the tea by my bedside table. It helped with nausea. That’s what I’d read. The blogs said taking a good amount of that tea helped with nausea. It would help with throwing up to and feeling like I had food poisoning. But lord, was it horrendous.I’d barley even put it to my lips when another wave of nausea hit me. Before I realized it, I was up and rushing to the toilet again, throwing and heaving up my guts into the toilet bowl.A long shaky breath left me, exhaustion eating at my bones like some sort of birth right. This really was not fun.Since morn
LUCIAN“Alright, so what have we got?”Zayn spread out every single one of the document he had in hand, and began reading them out.“We’ve got about three lesser packs that have pledged allegiance to our cause, one of them being Farlorn.”“Farlorn is good,” I nodded, eyes skimming over my copy of the documents. “They have the seaside advantage, something we can utilize to our cause.”Zayn nodded. “Exact. And then there’s this letter that came in from MoonBay today.”“MoonBay?” I froze, my mind wandering back to the summit. The twins had approached us with an air of formality. Things had long since escalated since the summit and word had gotten out of Tristan’s declaration of war. So it was safe to say, everywhere had been thrown into a set of preluded chaos.“This letter came in from MoonBay?” I repeated.“Yes,” Zayn nodded, eyes pouring through the paper. “The Alpha himself has chosen to ally with us and says he’s ready for a one-on-one meeting with you both.”I nodded, my expression
VIOLETMe?He wanted me? My head was suddenly heavier, different thoughts spinning through my mind faster than I could make sense of.Why did he want me? There was no plausible reason as to why that would be the case. He had no reason whatsoever to want me.For crying out loud, he had his own mate now. One which he obviously doesn’t fancy as much, but regardless. It made no sense as to why he was demanding for me.Reese’s eyes narrowed, right before she ripped the paper out of her mate’s hand. After some seconds of skimming through it, she tore the paper into shreds and tossed it to the ground.“He’s gone fucking mad.” She growled.Zayn looked just as pissed. “Who does he think he is? And to declare war just because he wants Violet?”Lucian had been quiet this whole time, his gaze calculating but never once leaving me. I knew there were so many things on his mind, a lot he wanted to say. It had been just as he feared.A week ago when he’d had that outburst, this had been his fear. Tha
VIOLET“Any update on those tabloids?”Zayn was focused on the phone in his hand, furiously typing away at it. “We’ve gotten a good number of them down. Some annoying blogs don’t want to let go of it though.”Lucian fixed up his tie. “I trust you can handle that.”“Leave it to me,” Zayn checked his watch. “Soon as we’re done with this meeting, I’ll get right on it.”Lucian nodded, fixing up his look one more time. Behind the doors before us was a conference hosted to address all the concerns that had sprouted after the summit. Of course it wouldn’t clear as quickly as I’d thought it would. That would be wishful thinking to assume it would. I guessed Lucian knew that much. He understood it, knew just how much things would blow up. And we were just as ready to get things straightened out.He turned to me, reaching for my hand. “Are you ready?”I sucked in a breath. “Ready as I’ll ever be.”“We’ll be at the front in case anything happens.” Reese said, reaching for Zayn’s hand. The beta s
VIOLET“How long do you think Lucian’s going to keep him for?”Reese was quiet, far more so than I’d have liked her to be. I wasn’t completely surprised about her certain unresponsiveness. Rodriguez was a touchy subject, both for Lucian and her. but it didn’t make it any easier to decipher what exactly was going through her mind.I’d told her everything that happened that afternoon, from Rodriguez’s outburst to Lucian ordering that he be thrown in the slammers. But I hadn’t imagined I would get this kind of reaction from her.So…detached.We finished up with the last of the supply checks just as the sun dipped into the horizon. I exchanged some more pleasantries with the workers before we left the warehouse.“Reese?”She finally blinked, then let out a breath. “Sorry, spaced out a little bit.”“So,” I tried again. “How long do you think Lucian’s going to keep him there for? A week? Or, a month?”“The question is, how long is he going to survive for?”That made me freeze. How long he w
LUCIANShit. Shit.I’d imagined a hundred and one things when Violet had stormed into my office like that. None like what she’d actually said. She was hot on my trail too, her footsteps echoing in sync behind me. I was too focused to pay much heed to it.“Lucian.” She triedI simply grunted, hurrying over to the border gates. Standing there was none other than Rodriguez. He seemed to have been in some sort of exchange with the guards but as soon as he sighted me, a smug grin found its way to his lips.“The Alpha finally graces us with his presence.”My eyes narrowed. “What are you doing here? I thought you’d long since known your place by now, at the north border where I stationed you.”“Oh, bullshit.” He pushed past the lanky guard before coming to stand toe-to-toe with me. No one should have such gall on any other day, certainly not him. But he seemed oddly ballsy for some reason.“You think you can just throw some wad of cash at me and keep me at that shithole? Oh spare me that. Yo

VIOLET“You’re not actually serious, are you?”Except, there was nothing about Reese’s expression that gave off the slightest impression that maybe she didn’t mean what she was saying. She had meant every single word of it.“Come on, just think about it,” She insisted. “We’ve spent so much time foc
VIOLETHe saw them.I’d sworn I’d do my best to keep him from seeing them but somehow, he did. Well, those three words had been on repeat since the past day.As soon as we’d gotten back, I’d immediately hurried to my room. Reese had been worried, asking if her brother had done something and if she
VIOLET“Eh?”Lucian blinked. “Got something in your ears?”“I heard you the first time.” I grumbled. “What do you want to show me?”He gave me a blank stare for a couple of seconds before rolling his eyes. “Would you pipe down first?”I folded my arms, staring me down in hopes of whatever he had in
