Kevin. That name popped up again and made Vanya slightly irritated, but she managed to hide it and listen to Matt’s sob story. She thought that it would be impolite for her to cut the man’s story and decided to be a listener.
“He’s one ungrateful and disrespectful bastard.” Matt pondered his empty glass and continued speaking, “I’ve made hundreds, even thousands of efforts to get Autoekomsten Corporation to reach its ridiculously high target and stake, and yet he didn’t bother to acknowledge my sacrifice.”
Vanya and Will listened closely as Matt said, “two months ago, he tasked me with something. I was asked to get the highest quality car spare parts from another company in Germany, and so I did. I traveled there with my own money, spending hours waiting for the CEO so I can talk to him, and persuade him to be the main supplier for my ex-company.”
“That’s a lot of work,” Vanya responded and seemed bewildered, “then what happened?”
“The deal was finally made, we began the transaction, yada yada yada … ” Matt hiccuped again before tilting his head to the waitress with a dazed look, “until one small carelessness from me ruin it all, like a gust of the wind that blows my house of cards away.”
“I didn’t record all of the transactions made.” he slammed his fist to the bar countertop and it was clear that his jaw looked more hardened. “That scum named Kevin noticed this, and he became enraged. He said, had only I done that earlier, he could resell most of the spare parts to other car companies in the entire country and gained the biggest profit.”
“Whoa, he’s such a capitalist,” murmured Will as he sipped the drink he secretly poured while listening to Matt’s story like a radio.
“He’s indeed evil to the bone,” replied Matt as he handed his glass to Will, “well, give me that. I need something to wash my dry throat after telling such a tragic story to you, bar employees.”
The conversation went into a long silence, leaving the remaining three people at the bar to say nothing. Vanya cautiously broke the silence after enjoying a sip of the drink WIll gave to her by saying, “so basically your boss, I mean ex-boss, plans to take over and monopoly the car spare parts’ trading in Belgium and overthrow that German company that supplies your ex-company. Is that correct?”
Matt only nodded to every single word Vanya said since he was too drunk to comprehend her response. He spontaneously blurted, “you know, I initially took a major role in this heinous project since my ex-boss assigned me to be the major leader. Now that I’ve left, I heard one of my colleagues, Kevin’s old friend became a replacement. I bet all he can do is just mess those things up, he knows nothing about this company. He’s got lucky since his parents and Kevin’s parents are old friends as well.”
Will was surprised to hear Matt talk about the supposedly secret company project casually in front of her and Vanya, who were just outsiders and knew little to no of the company’s ins and outs. Unbeknownst to the bartender, Vanya was intrigued to hear such despise from Kevin’s ex-employee who has the same purpose of revenge.
“Not just that, actually his secretary also takes part in compiling the report files, yet Kevin is too oblivious to that. He’s too blinded in my mistakes and ignoring the fact that that woman is also involved,” Mat sneered, “heh, turns out his secretary is one of his distant cousins.”
The girl cleared her throat and said, “an old friend and distant cousin, huh? Huh, I thought nepotism was long gone.”
“Oh, you’re dead wrong, Van. There’s plenty of them,” chirped Will.
Hearing the bartender’s response, Vanya chuckled, “jeez, of course I know, Will! I was just being sarcastic.”
Another pause filled the air as the clock was ticking. Will looked up at the clock and realized it was 15 minutes left before closing time. Filled with a slight panic, he tapped Vanya’s shoulder.
“Oh shoot!” he panicked, “we need to clean those tables, Vanya. It’s almost time to close the bar.”
Vanya was slightly torn on deciding what to do. She knew it was her job to clean and tidy the bar up before going home. However, the chance of meeting one ex-employee from Kevin’s company just couldn’t be missed easily. She then came up with an idea, “I’ll accompany Matt first to get him a taxi since he’s too drunk, then I’ll come back and help you.”
“Oh yeah, you’re right!” said Will after realizing that they still had one customer.
“Here, Sir. Let me help you walk.” Vanya offered her hand, but to no one’s surprise, Matt refused.
“I’m not an old man,” he insisted, then stood up and began to walk wobbly. “Just because I’m in my mid-40s doesn’t mean that I need some assistance to walk.”
“No, Sir, you barely walk straight to the door,” Will said, “let me and my friend help you. Vanya, have you called the taxi?”
“Just a moment.” She reached for her phone in her pants pocket and began dialing a number. “Hello, may I book a taxi right now? My name is Vanya. Yes, I’m at Heimel Morzend bar. All right, thank you.”
The call ended and Vanya quickly helped Will to carry Matt. After they put the drunken man on a bench outside, Will told, “are you sure you’re going to accompany him?”
Vanya replied and jokingly said, “yes. It’s okay, Will. I’m sure this man won’t harm me like that one.”
Will chuckled before getting into the bar again. Little did he know Vanya wanted to stay with Matt for a while because she had another purpose.
“I heard you talked about getting revenge on your ex-boss,” Vanya opened the conversation as they waited for the taxi outside the bar, “what kind of revenge, to be precise?”
The drunken man who had sobered up slightly then gritted his teeth and responded, “yes, I need to avenge Kevin. He just ruined my hard work and I can’t let that happen. A lesson needs to be taught for that insolent son of a bitch, but I haven’t thought of that deeply. Why do you ask?”
“Oh, nothing,” lied the girl, “I once got hurt by someone until my life is shattered, and I need to take do the same.”
Matt responded jokingly, “why would a young girl like you seek vengeance? Let me guess, is that for an ex-boyfriend?”
Vanya shook her head. “You don’t need to know who that person is.”
She knew that Matt and she shared one thing in common: a deep hatred toward Kevin who ruins their lives. Just before Vanya could respond, a four-wheeled vehicle with a ‘taxi’ tag on top of it slowed down in front of the bar and stopped. Matt stood up and turned around. “Well, I think my mind is clearing up a bit after some drinks and talking with you and that bartender. Thank you for that.”
Vanya nodded. “It’s not a big deal. I hope you arrive safely and get to do whatever you wish.”
Matt smiled before swinging the door open and got into the car, leaving the bar and Vanya alone. The girl stood in silence, thinking about following the same path that Matt took after being betrayed by Kevin.
“I’ll make him pay for what he did to my father’s company and family,” murmured Vanya as she went back to the bar and cleaned the hall with Will.
Since meeting Matt that night at the bar, Vanya kept thinking about the idea of getting her revenge on Kevin. As she laid on her bed and stared at the ceiling in wonder after a long and exhausting day at work, the girl began scheming a plan to sneak into Autoekomsten Corporation. Vanya believed that Kevin would overthrow that German automotive company in order to secure his company’s position and monopolize the monopolized four-wheeled vehicle business in Europe as Matt told her once.Vanya smirked and chuckled, thinking of getting the newest car technology data from Kevin’s company to other competitors. Her mind imagined that Kevin would hang his head in shame as he watched his company crumble before his eyes, giving him the taste of his own medicine. It would be the sweetest revenge for Vanya and her family. She got up and walked to her desk, then turned her old laptop on.“Hmmm … ” she tapped her chin lightly as her finger scrolled down the company’s website, “how do I get in there
Ever since Carlin and Vanya met each other in elementary school, the two had been inseparable. Even though Vanya's family was in a state of chaos due to economic problems and misfortune, Carlin remained good friends with her and tried her best to support and provide as much help as she could. She always kept her promise to her best friend. The car that Carlin drove stopped before the old and shabby apartment complex where Vanya and her family lived for the last three years. She then headed out straight to her best friend’s place on the second floor and knocked on the door thrice.“Vanya? It’s me, Carlin,” said the girl who carried a make-up kit and a bag that contained some button-up shirts.Henriella answered the door and greeted her daughter’s best friend, “Please come in and sit, Carlin. I’ll call Vanya.”“Thank you, Auntie.” the guest smiled and entered the apartment. Not too long after that, Vanya got out of her room with a fresh look. It seemed like she just showered and washed
It had been two weeks since Vanya was accepted to work as a pantry staff at Autoekomsten Company, and she still waited for the perfect time to steal the data-contained files from Kevin’s office. Sure, preparing drinks and snacks for the officials was laborious, especially when they had a meeting. Not to mention that she had to work at the bar in the evening soon after finishing her work at the company.“Aren’t you tired, Vanya?” Henriella asked one time after Vanya went home from her work as a pantry staff. After taking a shower and eating, her oldest daughter changed into a waitress uniform. “You only have two hours to rest and get ready before going to the bar. Not to mention you only sleep for four hours.”Vanya only responded with a smile. “It’s all right, Mom. I’ll try my best to fix this situation and make us get back on our feet again.”Despite her mother’s worry, Vanya proved that she could juggle both jobs easily. When she arrived at the automotive company, she barely looked
“Come in.”Kevin’s commanding voice told Vanya to get in. The pantry girl then went in and put the coffee requested by her new boss. She tried her best to keep looking down and hid her face in case Kevin would see. As her face cowered, Vanya’s eyes scanned around the room, looking for the files she needed to execute the plan.“Here’s your coffee, Sir.” she served the steaming hot caffeinated drink on the boss’ table, followed by a small pack of sugar and a stainless small spoon. “I haven’t put any sugar on it. In case you need some sweetener, I brought this sugar pack.”The man stretched his arm and turned cracked his joints, then said, “Ah, finally. Thank you. This is what I need before another meeting.”Vanya carved a slightly awkward smile before asking, “Is there anything else you want, Sir?”Kevin shook his head. “You can leave now.”As he raised his head, Kevin saw the pantry girl’s face more clearly. He furrowed his eyebrows, his gut told him that he had met this girl from some
Kevin’s personal driver steered the vehicle down the darkened streets in Brussels. The city was more alive at night, filled with young people gathering at the nearby cafe, restaurant, bar, or just hanging around by the sidewalk. Some of the street lights helped illuminate the surrounding and give a warm and intimate ambiance. Even if it was past the working hour, the company owner insisted on finishing the deal by now so he could rest easily and enjoyed the weekend without needing to worry about his business. Only one task left to do for today, and that was tendering with another multi-national automotive company from France. The potential client wanted to meet Kevin at a bar in the heart of Brussels some days earlier, to which he agreed. Kevin already knew the bar since he was also a regular there. Even on the way to meet another client for tendering, Kevin couldn’t shake the familiar feeling when he saw Vanya for the first time. His gut kept telling him they had met on an occasion t
“So, do we have the deal?”Mr. Laurent tapped his pen onto the contract paper and read line by line carefully while Kevin waited in anticipation. It was so close to finishing the tender and he just need the client to sign the paper. The French man then clicked his pen up, then attached his signature to the column provided.“There you go, Mr. Kevin.” Mr. Laurent handed him the contract back. “I agreed with your offer and I’ll do the same for both of our companies.”The young CEO smiled proudly and shook the client’s hand again. “Thank you, Mr. Laurent. With this deal, I hope we can work jointly to flourish our companies.”“Merci beaucoup,” responded Mr. Laurent with a peal of laughter, “so I assume it’s safe to celebrate this moment, eh?”They began to order some drinks, and most of them weren’t cheap. Bottles of various vintage wines, champagnes, and cognacs were put on the table. Kevin took one, the most expensive and old of them all. He handed the bottle to the waiter and told, “Can
Vanya stood frozen hearing Kevin’s question. She rocked her feet back and forth in anxiousness. The girl didn’t anticipate that Kevin would notice her presence right away. Her mind was filled with plenty of scenarios she needed to say in case Kevin asked something. As Vanya rubbed her nape, the man took a step closer toward her and asked once more, this time with a firm emphasis.“Answer me. Aren’t you working in Autoekomsten Company as a pantry staff?”Vanya couldn’t dodge Kevin's bullet, so she reluctantly nodded. The girl sighed heavily as she arranged words to describe her situation.“Yes, I am, sir. I worked at your company by morning then went here by evening,” Vanya responded as her eyes kept avoiding Kevin’s piercing stare. “Why would you do that?” Kevin asked, this time his voice had softened.“My father passed away years ago, so I have to be the backbone of my family to support my mother and younger sister,” explained Vanya. She held back the rage as she told the
The morning sun had dawned on the Brussels sky as Vanya waited and stood at the bus stop. Not so long after that, a bus arrived with its door automatically opened. The woman hopped in and looked for an empty passenger seat. As she sat on the bus and enjoyed the calm ride to the Autoekomsten Company building, Vanya still doubted what Kevin told her last night. The girl didn’t want to keep her hope high since there could be a possibility that Kevin was drunk and talked carelessly without considering the outcome.Once the bus stopped near her workplace, Vanya stood up and tapped the card to pay the fare. She then jumped down and took a light stroll to her new workplace. During her walk to the building, she feared that all Kevin said is just a bunch of rubbish. Vanya had no other option except to beg Bart to take her back as a waitress at the bar. “Don’t get your hopes too high, Vanya. Kevin is probably a liar that you shouldn’t trust,” Vanya had a conversation with herself as she wa
As Officer Smith stood there, stunned by the reporter's announcement that they were live on social media, panic began to creep in. She realized that her hasty dismissal of Vanya and Carlin's report was now being broadcast for the world to see, and she couldn't afford to talk rashly any longer. The viewers, who had tuned in to the live broadcast, began to question the truth of Vanya's earlier words aimed at Officer Smith. They typed furiously in the comment section, demanding answers and clarification. One viewer wrote, "Did Officer Smith really turn down evidence of a corporate scandal? That can't be true, can it?"Another viewer chimed in, "This sounds fishy. Why would the police dismiss such an important report?"Officer Smith felt the pressure mounting as she desperately tried to come up with a way to save face and protect her position and the reputation of the entire police institution.
Vanya and Carlin, clutching the stolen documents tightly, burst out of the Autoekomsten Corporation and into the bustling city streets. Their hearts were still pounding from their daring escape, but they knew that their mission was far from over.Vanya, her fiery red hair billowing behind her, hailed a passing taxi with a dramatic wave. "Quick, Carlin! To the nearest police station!"Carlin, always the meticulous planner, quickly got into the taxi and urged the driver to step on it. "Make it snappy, my good man! Time is of the essence."Little did they know that a black sedan had been discreetly tailing them since their exit. Inside the sedan, Agent Harris and her team were in hot pursuit, determined to catch up with the elusive thieves.Agent Harris, her patience wearing thin, muttered to herself, "These two are more slippery than a bar of soap in a sauna."As they weaved through the
Gregory's temper simmered as he wiped the hot coffee from his suit, taking a deep breath to calm himself. The audacity of his nephew Kevin, along with Carlin, Vasky, and Vanya, had pushed him to the brink. They may have stolen his secret documents and his precious jar of pickles, but they were gravely mistaken if they thought they could outsmart him. After the shock of their brazen theft, Gregory wasted no time. He reached for his phone, the touch screen lighting up with his practiced fingertips as he dialed the number for his security team. He knew that retrieving those documents, containing the damning evidence of his criminal activities, was paramount. His entire empire hung in the balance."Security, this is Gregory," he said with a tone of urgency as the call connected. "We have intruders in my study. I need them apprehended immediately. No, don't wait. I want them stopped now."As Gregory issued the commands, his mind
The morning sun bathed the scene as the trio stood outside the imposing walls of Autoekomsten, each prepared to play their part in this high-stakes charade. Carlin and Vanya appeared the part of legitimate employees, their attire and demeanor blending seamlessly with the corporate landscape. And then there was Vasky. In a sea of contemporary fashion, Vasky stood out like a time traveler who had stumbled upon the 21st century. His outfit, a mismatch of colors and patterns, seemed to defy the very laws of fashion coherence. Carlin, quick as ever, wasted no time seizing the opportunity for a light-hearted jab."Vasky," she teased, a grin tugging at the corners of her lips, "you look like the result of a fashion experiment gone awry. Did you raid a costume store from the '90s?"Vasky's expression was a mixture of exasperation and amusement. "Carlin," he retorted, his tone laced with dry humor, "some of us appreciate timeless cl
On the designated day, the air was charged with anticipation as Kevin and Vasky embarked on their rendezvous to strategize against the looming shadow of Gregory. The weight of Gregory's influence gnawed at Kevin's authority, a constant reminder of the battle they were about to wage.Kevin's steps were measured yet purposeful, his demeanor a blend of determination and exasperation. As he neared the cafe, he couldn't help but feel like a leader in name alone, a puppet whose strings were held by an unseen puppeteer.Vasky, the embodiment of precision, walked beside him like a strategist preparing for a war council. His thoughts were a symphony of plans and contingencies, a testament to his analytical prowess.“Kev, is it just me or do the people look at us funny?” asked Vasky out of the blue while forcing an awkward smile, only to be equalled by his very own quirky penguin walk.Kevin smirked. “Nah, it’s just your imagination, Vash. Or perhaps they think we’re a couple. I mean, w
The courtroom erupted like a volcano finally unleashed. The witnesses' revelations, direct and unfiltered, detonated a cascade of gasps and whispers that filled the room. The air buzzed with disbelief, as if the walls themselves were echoing the seismic impact of the truth. The judge's decision, a punctuation mark in this symphony of revelations, hung in the air like a heavy fog. The gavel's thud resonated through the room, marking the culmination of this dramatic trial. It was a verdict that bore the weight of justice served.Outside the courtroom, the scene was no less frenzied. Reporters swarmed Gustav like a storm of inquiries. Microphones thrust toward him resembled an intimidating forest of metal and wires. The questions rained down like a torrential downpour, each drop seeking to quench the public's thirst for clarity.Gustav, the epitome of controlled rage, faced the onslaught with an expression twisted by fury. His lips moved, forming words that a maelstrom of anger had
The courtroom buzzed, characters distinct and yet woven into this intricate dance of words. Heissmann's skepticism added spice to the air, Vasky's flair for presentation resembled a magician pulling tricks from his sleeve, and the witnesses – each with their poignant narrative – cast their lines into the drama. In the heart of this exchange, the judge sat, a quiet colossus of discernment. His gaze held the room like an anchor, a reminder of the gravity underlying this display. The elderly man continued, his voice a winding river of reminiscences. "Your Honor," he emphasized, a touch of fervor accenting his words, "this act defied the sanctity of our environment, a travesty unsuited for any stage."Heissmann, never one to relent, lunged once again into the fray. "A poetic protest," he mused, his tone a contemplative stream of doubt, "yet the courtroom seeks sustenance in evidence."Vasky's turn came yet again, a spectacle of strategic timing. He presented records and testimonia
In a dramatic twist, Vanya and Carlin burst into the courtroom, the door swinging open with a flair that caught everyone's attention. The judge's eyebrows shot up in disapproval, his initial impulse being to expel them for their audacious entrance. However, Kevin, his persuasive prowess in full display, swiftly intervened."Your Honor, please, they're with us," Kevin implored, his tone earnest and apologetic. He assured the judge of their importance to the trial, a gamble he was willing to take to bolster their chances of success. The judge let out a weary sigh, muttering under his breath about the less-than-ideal situation he found himself in.“Sigh, I’m too old for this shit...” He reluctantly knocked his mallet for order, signaling that the trial could proceed. As Carlin confidently approached the microphone, she exuded an air of determination. Her opening words painted a vivid picture of Zimmerscheid village, evoking a sense of warmth and charm. Just as the judge was about t
The courtroom was a battleground of legal jousts, with Kevin and Vasky on one side and Gustav on the other. Kevin's demeanor was as intense as a storm gathering its fury, and Vasky, usually a paragon of nerdy composure, seemed to have donned an uncharacteristic layer of steel resolve. It was as if they were both channeling the spirits of unyielding warriors. Before the trial began, Gustav couldn't resist taunting Kevin and Vasky, his arrogant demeanor on full display. "Oh, how touching," he sneered, "the dynamic duo of justice has arrived. Are you two here to entertain me?"Vasky's eyes gleamed with his nerdy charm as he retorted, "Well, you know us, always up for a riveting legal showdown." He adjusted his glasses with a hint of mischief, clearly relishing the intellectual duel ahead.Kevin, the embodiment of righteous determination, spoke with unwavering conviction. "This trial isn't about entertainment, Gustav. It's about justice prevailing over greed."Gustav's sinister la
