She remembered that Jeff had saved her before Zayn did, but Jeff suffered a cramp in his calf and was also drowning then.

She wondered if he was fine now.

Zayn's calm face darkened when Bethany mentioned Jeff.He took her glass and put it on the bed heavily. "You care so much about your boyfriend?" he sneered.

"Boyfriend?" Bethany was surprised.

Zayn set his mouth in a grim line. "Isn't Jeff your boyfriend?"

“Of course not." Bethany was amused "It'sa hoax . We are just friends"

“Hoax?"Zayn was feeling better.

"Yes.He knew he would meet Miss Quade here. So he asked me to pretend to be his girlfriend, to let Miss Quade give up."

"Do you believe his words?" Zayn leaned back in his chair.

Bethany blinked. "Why not?" Zayn looked into her clear eyes and felt helpless.

She was so simple. It seemed to her that she was pretending to be Jeff’s girlfriend to help him get rid of Ms.Quade but Zayn knew that this was only one of Jeff's purposes.
