LUCY
Thankfully it was dark, when I made my escape, diving into the pool and no one could register my face, even if they did, they would barely remember what I looked like . When I heard the policemen's voice, I knew I could not remain in that room. It was one thing to have my cover blown and another to be caught. If they had caught me and identified me as the Night Star, I might as well kiss my freedom goodbye.I was never seeing the light of day again, even if the ace of spade tried to use their influence.Desperate times really called for desperate measures. I had no idea how I had been able to achieve that feat of escaping even though I was tied to a chair, thankfully Armando's room had a pool side view. But that feat, though successful, had resulted in many bruises and an almost broken bone. I limped hurriedly, and hopped on my bike parked a few streets away from the hotel and sped off as fast as I could, desperate to reach home . I was fucking tired and exhausted, This mission turned out to be more difficult than I pictured it .I released a sigh of utmost relief as soon as I arrived my house packing lot. "About fucking time."I opened it with a special card only I had access to. It was a small house but I loved how quiet and isolated it was. I flicked on the lights as soon as I was inside and after making sure the door was securely locked, I made my way to the bathroom to get the first aid kit.The phone rang. I decided to ignore it at first but the incessant shrilling sound it made as I cleaned my wounds grated my ears and was increasing my anger. I went to get it. "Hello.""The boss wants to speak with you." The voice belonged to the same guy who had called to notify me of this job, alpha Jax right hand man.My stomach clenched in nerves. I had never failed a job before. Not once in my life. But this had taken a completely different turn I never expected it to. My head was spinning with lots of probabilities which only managed to further annoy me.I never had to deal with probabilities or maybes. Every mission was always a certainty and a confident yes."Night Star." From the Alpha's tone, I knew this was not going to be good. Had he heard? How?Still, I maintained composure. He might not be aware yet. "Good evening, Alpha.""What happened at that hotel this evening?" His question left no room for lies. But I would still not take the bait. It was better to play this smart than stupid."What do you mean, Alpha?""Are you silly? ,don't try to play with my intelligence. its all over the news , you thought i wouldnt find out?" He was angry now.But wait, what did he say about news? What news? Oh my God! No, it could not be, could it? Without meaning to, I ended the call and rushed as fast as my limping legs could carry to the remote on the small coffee table and switched on the TV."... exactly at seven forty five pm, the police department was notified of a break-in into continental hotel. The receptionist is said to have been subdued with a tranquilizer after the medical team was called in to revive her from an unconscious state. Furthermore, a figure was captured sneaking into the hotel's elevator and coming out of it on the eleventh floor...."The reporter's calm, composed voice was drowned out by the pounding in my heart and the roar of my blood. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! The Alpha was not going to like this.Fuck me! I didn't like this either. The Alpha? That was when I realized I had abruptly ended the call and now the phone was ringing. Feeling more apprehensive, I could not quite maintain that composure I had begun with. "Sorry for that, Alpha.""What exactly are you sorry for?" He was still angry. It was even a wonder I was not hearing the shattering of glasses and any delicate what not he could get his hands on."For hanging up on you." I knew he was also talking about my inefficiency of this job."Do you still want the freedom you so desire, Lucy?"He almost never called me by my name, unless he was really upset and disappointed. And he was conspicuously those and more."Of course, I do Alpha, I want it more than anything. Please give me some time I can still rectify the issue." Could I? Even after finding out he was my fated mate, could I still rectify it?, could they really kill Armando?.Though he had seemed less concerned about the mate bond but I had seen how affected he had been when I had mentioned the word 'mate'.Also, it could be me just thinking it but Armando did not seem like the guy who would hesitate to do whatever he set his mind to do. He wanted to drive in that knife into me, I saw it in his eyes. But he had stopped. Also, if he really wanted to hurt me, he would have killed me with that bullet. I was powerless and couldn't do anything ,tied to that chair. He probably knew his way around guns and triggers, he was not a fool to have missed, or was it just a bad shooter?.Despite the gravity of the situation, a smile sneaker up its own to spread my lips. Maybe he wanted the bond too. I would not lie, I wanted the bond. It was what I had prayed for most of my life and now it was here. He was here."Are you listening to me, Lucy?!" The angry growl of the Alpha had me jolting out of my momentarily smitten state to face reality."Y-yes, Alpha." I hope he did not have to ask me what he had said because I had no idea." I need an explanation for what happened back there, it's not safe for us to be seen together until this whole situation goes under the radar anyone could be watching, so I'll suggest we meet at the forthcoming gala its in two days time , it's going to be masked party , you better show up and on time ." He said with the air if finality.Wait, what? "Uhmwhat gala, Alpha?""So you've not been listening." He sounded like he was about to go off into another stream of anger but he just sighed. "Gala. Two days' time , every other details you need to know, would be sent to you through encrypted messages.""Okay, Alpha." I nodded obediently even though he could not see me."And Night Star?" Expectations coated his words."Yes, Alpha." My gaze fixed itself on the TV. The reporter woman was still talking. The hotel was behind her. Strangely drawn to a particular window, I fastened my stare on it."You'll rectify this issue as you've promised, won't you?"I swallowed. "Yes, Alpha.""Good. We'll talk more at the gala."And the line went dead with the phone limp in my hand. My eyes were still on the screen.Armando González, why are you my last target?Lucy I finally received the details sent by the alpha's people, it said it was a masked party. That had been a very welcomed information. With the recent development in town, the security around the state had become so tight that not even a mosquito could hurt anyone and get away alive, after what had happened two days ago at the continental, I could not risk being caught.Another thing I was grateful for was the fact that the cameras in the hotel had not captured my face. My disguise had still been in its firm place and had only come off when Armando had pulled my wig, and so far they are yet to identify the culprit, that means I am still safe unless Armando points me out.The gala was happening at the mansion of one of the Elders of the state. Elder Zukka. He was celebrating his successful journey back from abroad where he had gone for a surgery. My phone rang, I brought it out of my diamond-studded clutch purse. The Alpha. "Alpha." I moved away from people so no one would hear my
Lucy“Let’s go back to the party, before it gets suspicious, especially my Luna. I wonder where she is at the moment?” He was already walking out of the balcony.Somewhere in the gardens right now getting fucked and screaming another man’s name, while you’re here threatening me to kill my mate, I replied spitefully in my head.I followed him out of the balcony and without wanting to rouse suspicions, I went the other way. I had barely gone far when my phone rang again. It was the Alpha. I turned to see him beckon to me. What did he want now? I eye rolled in my head.“Yes, Alpha?” I looked at him expectantly. He pulled me quietly to a private corner. “Remember, no one must know we work together. No one must see us together, until this whole thing clears up.”“Yes Alpha, I remember you making mention of it on the call the other night you called.” I observed our surrounding. How many guests had Elder Zukka invited? The whole world? There were so many people here and it was not even the b
LucyI needed my first glass. Maybe if I drank to the point of being tipsy, I could use that as an excuse to go home. I was in the ballroom. Everyone here looked elegant and dashing in their expensive gowns and custom-made suits respectively a also mysterious off course. The touch of the mask suddenly made everyone look like assassins who were here on assignments.Maybe it was just my thought, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be true.“Good evening, everyone. I want to thank you for coming out tonight to celebrate the success of my heart surgery with me.” Elder Zukka, the host, said as he walked into the room from an entrance close to the podium where there was a grand piano sitting magnificently.Guests cheered happily. My gaze roamed the room, covertly searching for two people. Alpha Jax and Armando. Alpha Jax I could easily identify, but Armando, that would be a challenge. Why would Alpha Jax think he came here? Did Armando have any business with Jax? Or someone else? Elder Zukk
Lucy Before I could make sense of what was happening, the light came back on. There stood Alfred, his lips were crooked in a chilling smile.I turned to see what had just happened and who had screamed. To my horror, Elder Zukka had a knife in his chest. Then the light went off again before I could adjust my sight to the gory scene. "Arrivederci, Night Star." I heard Alfred say. My bones chilled in fear. Who was that guy and how did he know who I was? A gun shot was heard. I sprinted through the scurrying and screaming crowd. It was too dark to see a thing, even with my heightened werewolf sight, but I had to find a way to understand what this was and heaven help me, if I saw that guy, I would have it out with him.My fucking heels were slowing me down. Why had I worn such heels on a night like this? Actually, it was because it was a night like this. I kicked my legs hard into mid-air, both heels came flying off.I was searching for an exit. The light came on again. I slowed to a s
Lucy Despite Laia's prancing in my head and the agitated beating within my chest, I turned with a punch. He easily caught it and shook his head.A dangerous glint flickered in his eyes. "You do not want to do this." His words, low and intentional, caused a thrill of shiver through my whole being.Suddenly feeling subdued, my fist went lax. Both guns were dropped to the floor. Without another word, he held my arm firmly, removing his gun from my skin and tugged me towards a side of the building."A big mistake you're making, Armando." I told him."Oh, you mean because I removed the gun?" He chuckle was low and there was something sinister about it. "I'd like to see you try.""I could try." I wanted to try and I knew I would match him fire for fire, but something held me back. Maybe it was the mate bond. Though we had not even accepted it.He pulled me along not quite gently to a quiet, private place. My back was pushed to a wall. "Now talk and this time, the truth."I struggled agains
ARMANDO“Get the fuck out of my way!” A growl left my lips. I was angry as it was and this guy from Alpha Jax’s gang was adding more to it by trying to engage me in a fight.A swift move of my left leg targeting his knee had him on his knees in an instant, his painful groan could be heard. But I showed no mercy still, I finished him off with a silver blade shaped as a lotus. From my inner jacket, I flung the small sharp weapon at him, aiming for one of his eyes. It caught him square on his left eye, I ran past him as he fell to his death. When my boys had called me out of the gardens where I was having good sex with Tasha, I knew it must be important. And it was. The Moon Goddess had once again played a smart one on me. The person I’d been searching for was my mate. It was supposed to be laughable but it was not.And that stupid Alpha Jax, he…“Running away?” A figure suddenly made an appearance before me.“Speak of the devil and he appears. Or rather think of him.” I shot him a glar
LucyMy bathroom space suddenly felt small. It was impossible for someone to be here but Laia was doing that prancing in my head yet again. And I’d come to learn that her prancing could only mean one thing — Armando. Not wanting to believe it, I turned and there he was, casually watching me take a bath. The scream that came from me had been a reflex action.“Hello, Night Star. We meet again.” He had on a smug expression.“How… h-how did…”“This.” He revealed the small black watch that was almost unnoticeable if one didn’t look properly. “Now ,are done bathing or do I have to wait for you to finish?”“I don’t know how you got in but I want you to get out!” I grabbed a towel from a nearby rack to wrap loosely around myself. Anger. It was better to feel anger than apprehension or intimidation or whatever weakening emotions threatening to buckle my knees.“I have all night to do this with you. So, if you truly want me out as fast as possible, you’ll give me what I need.” His gaze remai
LucyI went very still, my brain finding it hard to comprehend his lips on mine. He delved further using his tongue, trying to invade my mouth and dominate. At this point, I could only become too aware of my body completely exposed before him which should have worried me and poked at my sense of decency and dignity. But none of that happen. Even the shooting pain in my arm had reduced to a dull, throbbing one. My body wanted to edge close.Laia was doing a very active dance in my head. “Kiss him, Lucy. Kiss our mate.” I could practically hear her happy howls.Only my sense of rationality should be against this but even that was nowhere to be found.Lust kicked in, forcing my lips wide apart to grant him entrance. And he went in. His tongue clashing with mine as lips warred in a passionate kiss. I heard someone moan. Maybe it was him or me. I could not tell and right now, I did not care.As though we weren’t close enough, I tugged him by his shirt closer to me. He obeyed, his legs en
