It's 7 in the evening, and Ethan is waiting for his driver in the office to pick him up.

This time, he was waiting alone. Not even a call from Sherah to check where he was or ask if he had eaten.

Her silence and lack of concern annoyed him.

He took his phone out and sent her a message, ~Waiting for the driver.~

He stared at his phone, waiting patiently for her reply, but none came. He felt stupefied as Sherah always replied to his messages swiftly.

He grew impatient. After waiting several minutes, he dialed her number. It rang, but she didn’t answer.

Sherah, at that time, was busy putting all her clothes and belongings inside the boxes and didn’t notice her phone buzzing relentlessly.

Meanwhile, Ethan felt disrespected and seemed to be at his wit's end, “What’s stopping her from answering my calls?” He said to himself as he tightened the grip on his phone.

Then, a horrendous idea entered his mind. “Is she with Eliot? That’s why it's okay with her for me to leave?” He uttered in disdai

Sherah ran, her breath coming in sharp, labored gasps. She only stopped when she saw Ethan’s car pass by, fear gripping her at the thought that he might be searching for her. She couldn’t deny that his car looked expensive—far beyond anything she could ever afford. But with the financial trouble she was already drowning in, the last thing she needed was another problem. On top of that, she had just lost her job at the diner. After ten minutes of walking, she arrived home. The building was dingy and worn down, a place with tiny apartments stacked on every floor, showing signs of years of neglect. It wasn’t much, but it was all she could afford after being thrown out of the Hawke residence two years ago. She remembered that day vividly. Her father, Silas, had just been declared healthy, no longer in need of her bone marrow and blood. No longer in need of her, and that was all it took to be pushed out of their lives. It had been raining when Rebecca and Sophia tossed her belong

Panic-stricken, she fumbled through her pocket and, with trembling hands, handed over her belongings. Ethan took her phone first, dialed his own number, and let it ring before handing it back. "Save my number," he instructed dominantly. Then, he glanced at her ID—and his hand froze. His eyes locked onto the name printed on it:~Sherah Agatha… Hawke.~ He mumbled the name under his breath. "Hawke?"His mind raced back to what she had said earlier: "My sister threw it out." "Her sister? He looked at her again. She did bear a resemblance to Sophia. But if she was truly from the affluent Hawke family, why was she living like this? Why would Silas and Rebecca let their other daughter struggle in poverty?"He quickly dismissed the thought. "Impossible. If she were really part of Sophia's family, sh

The night was silent, save for the soft hum of the engine and Ethan’s occasional, muffled snores. Sherah couldn’t help but shake her head, a small, almost fond smile tugging at her lips. She had left the windows wide open, letting the crisp air cut through the lingering scent of alcohol. She didn’t want the stench of it—of tonight—to stay with her.As the car finally pulled into the circular driveway of Farwell Villa, the massive estate loomed ahead, grand and imposing under the pale moonlight. Sherah shifted the car into the park and sat there for a moment, staring at the man beside her.Ethan was fast asleep. His breathing was steady, mouth slightly ope

A curse slipped past his lips as realization sank in. "She’s probably still at work," he muttered. With frustration clawing at him, Ethan gripped the steering wheel tightly. Without thinking, he jerked the car back into gear and drove straight to the small pizza place. His heart pounded as soon as he spotted her inside, mopping the floor. Sherah’s expression was exhausted, but there was a certain peace in her eyes that cut Ethan deeper than he expected. He reached for the car door, ready to storm in when another figure appeared. —Eliot. The man’s face lit up at the sight of her. In the blink of an eye, Ethan’s birthday arrived. The grand party Sophia originally envisioned—250 guests, a grand ballroom, and flashing cameras—had been scaled down. Now, it was an intimate 50-guest gathering in a VVIP room of a Michelin-starred Italian restaurant in Manhattan. Still, the venue shimmered with expensive lights, a picture of luxury and perfection. Sophia floated through the crowd with her extravagant white princess ball gown—she looks more like a bride than a host. She kept smiling sweetly and greeting everyone, but her eyes kept darting toward the clock. Everything was set—guests, exquisite food, flowing drinks, and most importantly, the special surprise Sophia had arranged: the discreet presence of the press and bloggers, ready for the perfect shot. In just a week, Sophia’s carefully constructed mask of grace had cracked. Gone were the morals she tried so hard to mimic. What remained was her true, calculating self. The plan was simple—once Ethan was drunk eno

The next day.Sunday morning. As Silas planned, they drove to Ethan’s home. The grand gates of Farwell Villa slowly creaked open as a sleek black car rolled in. Sophia stepped out first, followed by her parents. But today, she looked… different.Gone were her designer dresses and heavy makeup. Instead, she wore a simple cream blouse tucked into high-waisted jeans, her hair tied loosely in a ponytail. Her face was bare, save for a light tint on her lips—natural, almost unrecognizable. She had studied Sherah well, mimicking not just her simplicity, but the calm fire that always rested behind her amber eyes.Ethan, standing by the veranda, froze when he saw her. His jaw tightened, unsure of what stunt she was about to pull now.“Ethan,” Sophia called softly, her voice steady—so unlike the usual shrillness he’d grown used to. “Can I have a moment?” She glanced at her parents, signaling them to wait by the door. Silas and Rebecca exchanged looks but obeyed.Ethan nodded stiffly. “Speak.”
