Chapter 7

Author: Autumn Geese
The entire room fell silent at Margot’s words.

All the color drained from Maisie’s face.

Margot staggered to her feet. How could she have forgotten?

After Maisie had intentionally framed her last time, fearing another attempt, she had secretly placed a micro camera in her earrings.

Wiping the tears from her face, she quickly removed the earring with the camera and plugged it into the large screen.

The video showed that when Maisie had turned her back, she had used the opportunity to hang the necklace on Margot’s gown.

All of Maisie's mocking taunts were also exposed.

The public's opinion in the hall flipped instantly, and everyone looked at Maisie with expressions of disgust and contempt.

Margot, her hair a tangled mess, trembled as she picked up her phone and dialed 911, her brows set in determination.

"Hello? Police? I’d like to report someone framing me—"

Maisie trembled violently and burst into loud sobs.

"I didn’t mean it! I just wanted to play a little joke on Gigi. Why do you have to blow this out of proportion?"

As soon as she began crying, the Johansons and Joey rushed over to wipe her tears, their cold eyes turning toward the disheveled Margot, their tone filled with disapproval.

"May said it was just a joke. Why can’t you let it go?"

"She’s so kind and pure, how could she possibly do something like framing someone? The authenticity of this footage is still in question!"

"Enough! This farce ends here. Calling the police for such a small matter—aren’t you embarrassed of yourself?"

As they spoke, they escorted Maisie out of the hall.

Watching their hurried departure, Margot truly felt what it meant to be abandoned by everyone.

She laughed quietly, her body cold, unable to control the trembling that overcame her.

In the days that followed, Margot stayed locked in her room, avoiding the outside world, just waiting to be married off as quickly as possible.

She had never imagined that one day, the family that had once showered her with boundless affection would become the very place she longed to escape.

One day, as she was packing her bags, she suddenly heard a loud commotion outside the villa.

She opened the window and saw Maisie driving a car in the garden. Joey was sitting in the passenger seat, smiling as he instructed her.

Charles stood by the roadside, gently guiding her as she backed the car into the garage.

Margot was slightly bewildered as she watched the three of them.

It was Charles and Joey who had taught her how to drive years ago.

Back then, it was winter, and the cold weather bit at her skin.

Joey worried she would catch a chill and would hold her hand after each trip, gently warming it in his own.

Charles, ever indulgent, would brave the cold wind to record videos for her and stay up late sorting through the notes he had made.

But those were memories from a long, long time ago.

Margot lowered her eyes, hiding the sadness in them.

In the afternoon, she had planned to bid farewell to a few friends and was getting ready to head out.

But as soon as she stepped outside, a car suddenly struck her, sending her flying several meters through the air.

With a loud crash, she slammed into the hard stone pavement.

Blood poured from her mouth, and her entire body felt like it was falling apart. Intense, bone-crushing pain radiated from every part of her, tugging at her nerves.

In a daze, she saw Maisie get out of the car with a smile on her face.

"Ah, Gigi, I’m so sorry! I just learned how to drive, and I accidentally mistook the gas pedal for the brake. I didn’t mean to hit you.

"Look at all this blood. You must be in a lot of pain, huh? I should call an ambulance right away.

"Wait, what’s the emergency number again? 911? 999? Or is it 991? Maybe I should call each of them one by one, but that’ll take a while. Gigi, you’ve got to hold on!"

Margot lost consciousness before she knew if an ambulance had been called. She lay on the ground for half an hour before Joey discovered her and rushed her to the hospital. She finally regained consciousness after a day and a half only to find that her chest hurt terribly, as three of her ribs had been broken. She felt so weak that she couldn’t summon any strength to sit up, and just breathing caused her excruciating pain. Fred and Martha stayed by her bedside, their faces full of concern. Charles repeatedly asked the doctor if there was anything that could ease her suffering. Joey tightly held her hand, wiping the cold sweat that constantly formed on her forehead. After the accident, it seemed as though everyone’s attention had shifted back to Margot. But only she knew that their concern wasn’t solely for her wellbeing. “Margot, the doctor said the pain is temporary. Please bear with it, and you’ll start feeling better soon. May didn’t do it on purpose, so forgive her,

After a seven-hour flight, Margot finally arrived in Northwatch. It was already late, but the estate perched on the hillside glowed brightly, its lights piercing through the night. As soon as she stepped out of the car, someone assisted her into a wheelchair and began pushing her toward the entrance. From a distance, she could already make out a group of people waiting by the door. A sudden wave of anxiety tightened her chest. Alfred, ever perceptive, leaned in and began pointing out the people at the door. "You can address everyone the way Mr. Dominic does, Miss Margot. The lady in the center is the matriarch, Madam Vivienne, to her left are Master Gerard, and Madam Odette, to her right are Mr. Dominic’s grandparents, Master Thomas and Madam Gertrude, and behind them are..." Margot hadn't anticipated meeting so many members of the Stewarts on her very first day. Steeling herself, she quickly regulated her breathing and adjusted her expression. By the time they reached th

Margot lay in bed and soon drifted off to sleep. The next morning, she opened her eyes to find it was already ten o’clock. Alarmed, she hurriedly got up and began to freshen up. Vivienne, Gerard, and Odette were already awake in the living room, sipping tea and chatting with each other. As soon as they saw her, they instructed the kitchen staff to bring out breakfast and warmly greeted her. "Did you sleep well last night, Margot? Is there anything you'd like to eat?" "Take your time coming downstairs; we know you’ve had a tiring journey. Sleeping in is a good thing—there’s no rush." Their thoughtful concern, especially from relatives she’d only just met, left Margot feeling both flattered and a little overwhelmed. Sensing her unease, Vivienne cleverly sent her son and daughter-in-law off on errands to give Margot some breathing room. Then, she stayed behind, chatting casually while thoughtfully placing food on Margot's plate. After breakfast, Vivienne accompanied her

Margot had come to Northwatch with marriage as her sole purpose, so she voiced no objections. Having her long-cherished wish fulfilled, Vivienne was overjoyed and spent half an hour chatting with the two of them. Just as the conversation wrapped up, Alfred entered the room to deliver some documents. Taking the opportunity, Vivienne left with him, saying she would begin arranging the wedding plans they had just discussed. It was only Dominic and Margot now. Unsure of what to say, Margot instinctively picked up a magazine from the table. By contrast, Dominic remained composed. He poured her a glass of water and handed it to her before speaking. “Grandma mentioned you were injured—was it a car accident? How’s your recovery?” “It was a car accident,” Margot replied, her voice steady despite the faint tension in her eyes. “I broke a few ribs, but the doctor said I’d fully recover in a month.” Dominic frowned. He had intended to ask more about the incident but caught the

Dominic and Margot chatted for the entire afternoon, and gradually, their relationship began to thaw.Margot no longer felt as tense as she did when she first arrived. She started asking about what each Stewart liked and disliked. Dominic guessed that she might want to prepare some gifts and smiled at the thought."There are too many of us for me to keep track of, so I'll need to think about it. How about this: in a week, after I move back home, we can go pick out some gifts for everyone. We can also take the opportunity to show you around."A week? That quickly?Margot’s face showed only a hint of surprise.Considering that she was unfamiliar with the area, she thought his suggestion was a good idea, and she nodded in agreement. The day was drawing to a close, and after Vivienne finished her tasks, she came to pick up Margot. Margot waved goodbye to Dominic before she left. After watching their car disappear into the distance, Dominic gave Alfred two instructions."Have

In a fit of anger, Maisie covered her ears and refused to listen to anything. She eventually retreated to the bathroom. Charles and Joey sighed deeply as they watched her storm off, their faces filled with despair and frustration. Aware of their concerns, Fred and Martha took the opportunity to share some news with them. "Don’t be so downcast. Maisie won’t be marrying Dominic. You don’t need to worry."Charles and Joey looked at the couple in disbelief. Then a joy so unrestrained filled their features and they could barely contain themselves."Is this true? Have the Stewarts agreed to break off the engagement?""This is wonderful news! Let’s celebrate tonight, and bring Margot along too."Fred and Martha exchanged looks at the mention of Margot.Fred wanted to reveal the truth, but Martha pulled him aside and whispered in his ear."Let’s keep this from them for now. We’ll tell them once the wedding details are settled, so they don’t get anxious and make Maisie suspicious.

Margot held Anya close and adjusted her disheveled bangs as she overheard Anya’s mother praising her. "Ah, this is Anya’s favorite! You must have picked these gifts out didn't you, Margot? Dominic wouldn't have picked something so perfect for Anya. “Do you remember the last time? He gave her some revision books and a dance class—Anya was so upset, she didn’t speak to him for two months!"Margot glanced at Dominic, her eyes wide with surprise. Over the past week, she had often been accompanied by Vivienne when visiting Dominic at the rehabilitation center, staying for hours. Both Dominic and Margot had gentle personalities, and their age gap was small enough that they quickly became familiar with each other and easily chatted about anything. In Margot’s mind, Dominic was sincere, polite, intelligent, and composed. That morning, when they had gone to pick out gifts, he had skillfully summarized the preferences of everyone in the family, recommending many thoughtful options.

Margot froze in stunned silence. She hadn’t expected Dominic to refrain from asking her any questions, nor for him to so readily shoulder the consequences. Her emotions were a mix of gratitude and guilt. “How... how do you plan to explain this?” she finally managed, her voice barely above a whisper. Seeing the hesitation in her eyes, Dominic felt a pang in his chest. After he read the information Alfred had gathered, his anger had burned for days—not at the Johansons for their reckless scheme to deceive his family with a substitute bride, but at the cruelty they had inflicted on their own daughter. What infuriated him most was that the girl they had treated so harshly was the same person he had quietly admired for over a decade, the one he had resolved to marry the moment she came of age. Understanding her turmoil better than anyone, he couldn’t help himself. He stepped closer and enveloped her in his arms, drawing her gently against his chest. “Margot,” he murmured, hi

The day Maisie was sentenced by the court, the first snow of the season fell in Northwatch.Margot had always lived in the southern regions so she rarely experienced such heavy snow. She felt particularly excited. She dragged Anya into the garden for a snowball fight, teasing the little girl until she pouted and vented her frustration at Dominic who stood by watching."It's all your fault! Since Margot’s been with you so much, she’s turned just like you! She’s not the same gentle and loving person she used to be. It's all because of you!"Anya squished a snowball and threw it at him. He initially tried to dodge, but when he saw Margot laughing so hard she couldn't stand up straight, he just stood there and let it hit him.Once Anya had gotten her fill of venting and ran into the living room, Dominic walked helplessly over to Margot. He gently placed her freezing red hands onto his chest to warm them.Margot coughed a few times and looked at him seriously."Anya was right. It's

Once the news of the severed ties between the Stewarts and Johansons spread, it shocked the entire upper-crust society. After all, not long ago, the two families had just completed an alliance through marriage.Everyone was eager to know what had happened to make the recently awakened Dominic so furious. Rumors quickly spread about the Johansons mistreating their biological daughter after adopting another girl. Dominic, in his protective nature toward Margot, allegedly lashed out at his in-laws for this reason. It was common in the circle to see families favoring sons over daughters, but hearing about a family being cruel to their biological daughter in favor of an adopted one was unprecedented. The new revelation stirred much interest, and it quickly became the talk of the town.Additionally, the scandal surrounding a particular birthday party a few months earlier and the car accident involving Margot were linked to rumors of deliberate malice, among other gossip. This time, before Margot could finish speaking, Dominic interrupted her. "Margot, you are my wife now. Your affairs are my affairs, and the family’s affairs. Grandma is speaking up for the Stewarts. You don’t need to apologize. As for severing ties with the Johansons, it was a decision Grandma and Dad made. “Those business partnerships were only maintained because of the marriage arrangement. If they can’t even treat their own daughter well, how could they be trusted in business? “Ending the cooperation early was simply to eliminate potential risks and minimize losses. Don’t blame yourself for everything, alright?" At his explanation, Margot felt a little better and stopped crying. Dominic took out a tissue and gently wiped away the tears on her face. His touch was incredibly tender. Seeing the concern in his eyes, Margot softened."We’ve only known each other for a month. Is it because you were so certain I’ll marry you that you’re being so kind to me?" Dominic’s hand f

Only when he saw the true faces of the Johansons did Dominic finally understand what Margot had suffered. He took her hand, moved her behind him, and met their angry gazes."Margot is now part of the Stewarts. From now on, she has no relationship with the Johansons."Seeing the closeness between the two, the Johansons immediately deduced that he must be Dominic. To be chastised by someone younger in public made Fred and Martha resentful. However, Vivienne’s presence forced them to put aside their seniority and instead try to be reasonable."Even if she changed her surname, she still has the blood of the Johansons coursing through her! We are justified in disciplining her."Dominic’s gaze darkened, and just as he was about to argue back, Margot gently stopped him with a shake of her head. She then stepped forward and looked at her family whose faces had long since become unrecognizable."My name was given to me by my grandfather. The marriage with the Stewarts was arranged

After half a month of effort, the wedding had concluded smoothly, and Vivienne finally felt a significant burden lifted from her heart. On the way home, she was resting with her eyes closed when a commotion outside disturbed her. Frowning, she glanced out the window just as the housekeeper approached and explained the situation in detail. "Madam, about half an hour ago, a group of people showed up outside the estate claiming to be Mrs. Margot’s family. They’ve been demanding to see you ever since." The Johansons? Vivienne was immediately reminded of everything Dominic had told her about them. The cheerful expression she had worn moments ago vanished, replaced by a frosty demeanor. Gerard and Odette who were in the back seat, also wore displeased expressions as they accompanied Vivienne out of the car. From a distance, Fred and Martha spotted Vivienne. They had not seen her in years. Their previously arrogant posture softened considerably. When they approached, they

At noon, the private wedding ceremony officially began. Although reporters were forbidden from taking photos, a few tabloids had received insider tips and managed to snap pictures outside the hotel, publishing them immediately. #Dominic Stewart Awakes and Marries the Heiress of the Johanson Corporation Today# Far away in Veridian City, Charles saw the trending news as soon as he woke up. He froze in shock. Dominic had awoken from his coma? Why hadn’t Margot told them? Their parents had mentioned that her wedding would take place in two weeks, so why was it already making headlines today? And if the wedding was indeed happening that day, why hadn’t the Johansons received invitations to attend? Baffled and frustrated, Charles tried calling Margot to get answers but when he dialed her number, he realized she had blocked him. His surprise quickly turned to anger. Yet, with her miles away, there was little he could do except contact Joey, who had just flown to Northwatch.

  • Reuniting at Journey’s End   Chapter 20

On the way back, the car remained enveloped in silence. Dominic said nothing, he was fixed on messaging Alfred to finalize the details of the next day’s wedding schedule. After spending a month together, Margot understood his reserved nature. He never pried into her private life out of respect. In the past, she had chosen silence, finding her experiences too painful and humiliating to share. But now, watching him diligently working on their wedding preparations, she felt an unexpected shift. Some things, she realized, he had the right to know. After dinner, when they had both rested, Margot sought him out and recounted her past. Perhaps because she had truly let go, her voice remained steady, devoid of emotion, as if she were narrating someone else’s story. Yet, hearing her recount painful memories, Dominic’s heart ached deeply. He clasped her hand tightly, the warmth of his palm seeping into her skin. “I know you’ve moved on,” he said softly, his voice filled with si

Joey's face turned a deep shade of blue at Margot’s words."Mr. and Mrs. Johanson are your parents, Charles is your brother, and Maisie is your sister. “We’ve known each other for over twenty years. How can you say something like that, Gigi?"Margot let out a soft laugh, a trace of amusement flashing in her eyes."Really? Are Maisie’s parents and brother the ones you’re referring to? Didn’t she grow up with you?"Joey caught the sarcasm in her words. He recalled everything that had happened over the past few years, and a wave of guilt washed over him. He hurriedly tried to explain."Gigi, why do you have to hold this against May? Yes, we favored her, but it was all because she agreed to marry into the Stewart family for you. “We just wanted to make it up to her. Think about it, before she came, we treated you the same way, didn’t we?"Whenever Maisie was mentioned, it always came back to the same excuse. Margot was tired of hearing it. She looked at Joey calmly."After

"May, give me one more day. We’ll sort everything out after I bring Margot back to Veridian City," Joey said, his tone earnest.Maisie’s face slowly turned pale. She bit her lip hard, her eyes filled with malice.Charles continued to comfort her, but she had made up her mind. She grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the airport exit. "Charles, let's go to our parents and nullify the adoption agreement, then we’ll get married!"Charles was stunned for a moment as he heard the determination in her voice. But after the shock, joy quickly filled him, and he eagerly led her back home.Fred and Martha were delighted when they found out and immediately went to take care of the paperwork. After Charles and Maisie had their marriage registered, Maisie returned home as Fred and Martha’s daughter-in-law. The couple were overjoyed and even wanted to share the news with Margot. When they called Margot to share the news, her reaction was surprisingly calm. She simply hummed in respon
