Dulce fell on her bed, sobbing as she cried her eyes out. The shock from being pregnant had finally gotten to her and for the first time in her life, she was scared.
She tossed and turned to hope that the door would just open, and the doctor would rush in and shout surprise. But deep down, she knew it wasn't a joke. It was reality.
She didn't even know who the father of the child was. This made her think of the morning, three weeks ago, when she ran out of the motel. Is there any reason to go back there? I hope the man comes back. Even if he did, she had no idea what he looked like. And if she was even lucky enough to find him, no man wanted to be tied down by a baby. It was a one-night stand. The man wasn't interested in her and can't remember what triggered them into sleeping with each together.
Maybe to him, she was just a call-girl, and she couldn't blame him. What could a reasonable girl be doing outside at that time of the night?
Her eye closed as the door opened, and she sighed,
“Dad, I am exhausted and do not want to have company right now.” She said, as she carried her pillow and buried her face in it.
“Well, good thing that I am not your father, then,” Karina said as Dulce sat up with a start and looked at the door. Truly, it was just Karina leaning on the door with a glass of water.
“Karina, what are you doing here?” She asked as Karina rolled her eyes and said,
“Well, isn't it obvious that I am bringing a glass of water for my daughter?” She said as she dropped the glass cup on the table and Dulce bit the insides of her lips, feeling stupid. Right! Obviously.
“Sorry, Karina. I guess I was just out of sorts. I didn't know you were home. I thought it was just Father.” She said truthfully as Karina sat down on her bed and said.
“I just got back and surprise, he told me you were around instead of being at work and that you looked a bit pale, so I came here to see for myself. Are you sick? Do you need to go to the hospital?” She asked as Dulce snapped.
''NO! Sorry, I mean there is no need to go to the hospital. I am just exhausted. I will be fine.” She said, sipping the water as Karina watched her carefully and sighed,
“Oh okay, dear. You can rest up for now. I will come to get you once dinner is ready but if you are hungry before, then you can let me know okay? It's still noon, so it will be in a while.” She patted her shoulders and stood up, taking the empty glass cup with her. Dulce sighed and went back to bed, trying to sort out her thoughts.

Aspen was getting angry, and it was for good reason too. It had been three weeks since he sent some people to find out about the girl that he had slept with, but his detectives hadn't brought back good news at all.
Ever since that day, he had sleepless nights, he couldn't sleep without her coming to tease him about that night. He could still remember the way her thin waist fit perfectly in his broad hands as he trusted deep inside her. He could still hear her moans and giggles. It was bloody addictive and torture. He had since tried to sleep with another girl, but it seemed like she had charmed him because none of the girls did it for him anymore.
He wanted his inexperienced lover, not this experienced ladies. And to cap it all, work had become more tedious in the past month. He barely had enough time for himself, so he was always on edge, snapping at everyone and anyone. People were scared to meet him to avoid being chewed out by him. Nobody could understand what he was going through.
The door opened, pulling Aspen from his fantasy of his lover as he snapped,
“Whoever you think you are, trust me you are not important. Get out of my office.”
But what he felt next was a smack to his head. How dare his secretary touch him? Just as he looked up to fire her, he came in contact with his mother, of all people.
“You are.mother!! What are you doing here?” He said, smiling as his mom rolled her eyes and said,
“What was the meaning of that statement you said, so it was true?”.
“ What was true.....mother?” He asked as his mum hit him again and said,
“People have been talking about your rude, obnoxious behavior that has been going on for a month now. You snapped at everyone. The tension. The stress you are pushing them through. I thought to myself that I had to come to see and what do I hear from your mouth, you're cussing me?” She said as Aspen scratched his chin nervously and said,
“But mother, I didn't know that you were the one….”
“Oh shut up. It doesn't matter who it is. I raised you to be a kind and respectful man, and you have been doing that for a long time, so tell me what the matter is so that we can solve this together.
“You are being ticked off because of something, right?” She said sitting down as Aspen did the same too. He was torn between telling her the truth. The last time he told her, she said that he had made it up and there was no girl. Who is to say that his mother won't think he was going mad and actually check him into a mental institution?
“There is nothing wrong with me. I will apologize to everyone. I just became spoiled and rude, and nobody deserved it. I am sorry that you had to come down here. It won't happen again, I promise.” He apologized, hoping his mother would accept it and let him off the hook for now.
Update has started today and it'll be steady. Thank you my readers for patiently waiting. Grab the pop, let's corn it... ❤️😍 And again your review and Votes will take this work long and encourage me to be a better version of myself 🙏
A WEEK LATERDulce stood in front of her new compound in New Zealand. It's a lovely sight to behold, she had a lawn and neighbors would live quite close. She sighed as she looked up to the sky searching for something, but giving up when her eyes started to hurt. She was tired, hungry, and exhausted. She had gotten off the plane two hours earlier, and she had driven the rental car to an apartment that she had paid for. She didn't tell her father where exactly she was going and she didn't know either, but she compromised by promising to call him every week. That was the only way she had gotten out of the house. Gazelle wasn't happy that she was leaving and tried to question her more about it, but Dulce kept a tight lip about her condition to her best friend. It didn't seem like much, but Dulce decided to keep talking less and less before she let something slip off. If anyone could see them, they would assume that both of them were keeping malice. But Dulce had assured her that they ar
Aspen Mckinney idled with his phone in his limousine's comfort. His hands never stopped visiting every major news site that was in the country. In fact, he had gone through all the major news sites and was searching for the slightest bit of light that shines towards a certain headline about CEO of a certain prestigious enterprise who was caught having an affair with a certain lady. He smirked at the thought of it. Shortly after he left the motel, he vowed to himself that if that Godforsaken manager of his motel did not do what was right for the damn news not to go out, he was going to do everything in his power to pull them down. He had placed certain important calls. He called his lawyers to keep their eyes on the wheels. Whenever a certain strange article about his personal life popped out, they should take very drastic measures to pull down the stronghold of the supposed prestigious hotel. It was not far from his reach. Just a matter of minutes was more than enough for him to do
“ You said five minutes. We spent more than ten minutes. " “ Sorry, sir. I must have made the wrong calculations. " “ Like you have always done. “ Aspen sighed heavily and stepped out of his limousine's comfort, clutching his briefcase in his hand. He strode towards the elevator that led straight to his office floor. A few moments later, he was walking into his office and dropping the briefcase right on the table. Flipping out his phone from his pocket, he searched for a particular contact. It was Hagar. He needed to call Hagar and figure out how far he had gone with the little assignment, which was not little, that he had given him to do. “ Alright. Here we go. " He dialed the contact that stared at him. One ring. Two rings. Three rings. “ Hello, Sir. Good morning." “Good morning?” Aspen asked with his brows arched. " Is there any good thing about the damn morning?”“ Sorry, sir. I had to dig up more before I would contact you. " “ It has been a couple of days already since
Aspen took his phone and searched for the contact of his best friend, Derek. In a situation like this one, the only other person that he was very certain he could rely on was the likes of Derek. Derek, just like him, was a wealthy and top-class individual. The dude was a civil engineer who had even gotten to a Level where his construction company always got the bigger contracts in the country. Some time ago, there were issues in the presidential office building. He was contacted specially for that job and he had done a work that was worth sampling to the whole world. In addition to all his money, he was a good and loyal friend to Aspen. Both of them. have been through thick and thin. They had been friends for years already. And through the years of their friendship, none of them would be able to say that there was once a moment when they had to go extra miles away from each other due to a quarrel. Such things could never break them. And in fact, the combination was sent from heave
Mr. Theodore Florencia was taking a slow walk through the premises of his house. Nothing particularly was going on in his mind. But at the same time, he would not say he was not thinking about anything. Without any particular direction in his mind, his feet turned and began to lead him to the garden. The garden held pleasant memories he would love to hold on to. Oh yeah. The garden had existed for so many years and was likely less of a garden. It looked more like a bush. He strictly forbade everyone from walking into it. Why? That was the garden he had built with no other person but the mother of Dulce, his first daughter They had built and cultivated that garden all by themselves. The pleasant times when they had to trim it together. Those little things endured love between them. It was one of their biggest dreams to take very good care of the garden with their children when the time was right for them to start coming. That dream kept on growing with their marital life. Not so lo
A few more days passed. But Aspen still walked with the tip of his toes to avoid stepping in the shards of glasses that date night have thrown into his path. The events of what ensued that night were yet to get erased from his memory. Around now, it was no longer the memory that troubled him. He had learned to adapt to the new idea that he already slept with a stranger. That was already in the past. However, the main problem was that there was still no news about the stranger that he had a one-night stand with. Was she a ghost? With his level of influence over the society, there could hardly be a person that he would not be able to find no matter how well such a person hid him or herself. In the past, when his father was still the CEO of the company, something had happened. A man-made away with a big amount of cash. Big enough that it shook the company so badly. Their competitors had taken over the race at that time. Though after much struggle, his father was able to return to the r
The air around New Zealand was one that Dulce had always dreamt of. She loved the place. Right there, on her veranda, she was cooling off in the comfort of the cool breeze that slowly caressed every part of her body. Oh yeah. She was loving the feeling that was with it. Her eyes were shut. In her mind, all she could see was relative peace. Some folks would say that peace was not a relàtive feeling. While some believed that peace, while it might be relative as a word, was not by any means relative as a feeling. But little did they know that peace as it was, was not just a feeling. It was a state of mind. Dulce was in that state of mind now. There was no reason to be troubled. No more reasons for her to be anxious and weary at all times. More reason to be worried about the next second of her life. This was heaven. Heaven could be on earth too. If that was the case, then, this place she was in was the heaven she was living in. They say all worries disappear in heaven. Her worries were
“ Dreams?” Izzy asked, biting a piece of her own roll. The crunchy sound coming from their mouths would definitely arouse anyone close to them to want to have a taste of the cheese rolls. “ That crunchy sound is something else. Dulce said and giggled. “ Well, you can say that again. Though, not every stuff that sounds like this is to be considered as a delicious thing to have a taste of.”“ I don't think I understand. “ Dulce out the remaining part of it and take another one. “ Do you know what a kola nut is?” Izzy asked her. Dulce arched her eyebrows. Kola nuts? What are those? She thought. “ Kola nuts. " Dulce repeated. “ Yeah. Kola nuts. Heard of them before?” “ Uhm. I can't say I have never heard of them before because I just heard of them from you. " Izzy giggled. “ I guess that should be true. " “ From the way you have spoken about it, I already want to taste it too. I guess it must be very tasty. Am I right? New Zealand seems to have a lot of tasty stuff. Like, a lot
A month had gone by and everything was finally settling in. Dulce had moved into a new apartment with the kids and their nanny, Cynthia. Her former apartment brought her nightmares."Zig! Olletta! where are you guys?" she yelled. She was trying to get ready for her first date with Aspen and also prepare the kids for a weekend with their grandfather."Over here," Zigfrid called out from somewhere near the stairs, sounding tired. "We can't find Olletta. Have you seen her?""Hang on," Dulce said as she ran upstairs. She opened her bedroom door and immediately saw a pile of clothes on the floor."Mom! Where have you been?! You gotta pick us up in fifteen minutes!" Olletta cried.Dulce sighed. "Look, kiddos, we can't go to the mall today, because of our schedule.""But, it's summer!" Olletta whined."I know. But your grandfather is coming in to pick you and your brother up. Mummy wants an alone time with your dad," Dulce said, trying to convince Olleta. Olletta frowned slightly. "That sou
Eventually, she managed to calm down. Once she did, she pulled away from him. Her tears were still streaming down her cheeks."I'm so sorry for running away, papa," Dulce muttered. He smiled sadly. "It's okay. But, you know you had a choice in all of this. It's not your responsibility to be in this. You don't have to apologize for that," he reassured."I know. I just...," She trailed off."What is it sweetheart?""I mean, I didn't tell you the real reason I left. I just disappeared and I always felt bad about it. Even when I came back, I didn't come to see you.""Why?" he questioned.Dulce hesitated at first before answering her father. " I was afraid."He arched his brow. " Afraid of what?""I was afraid you'd hate me."Aspen, Derek, Cynthia and Mrs Cassy McKinney filed out of the room immediately they saw Dulce and Theodore having a father and daughter moment. They didn't want to interrupt.Once they were gone, Mr. Theodore Florencia approached his daughter once again. He gently car
"Yes ma'am," Cynthia said, her head slightly bowed."Why do you..." she wheezed a little. Cynthia reached out for the water and gave it to her. "Thanks. Now, why do you look like you were used as a punching bag?" She chuckled weakly.Cynthia sighed. "That isn't important right now. We'll talk about it when you're better," she said."Yeah," she replied slowly before coughing. She cleared her throat and swallowed hard. The doctor came closer to check her pulse."Everything looks fine to me. She's awake now and she seems alert enough to understand us. So I'd say it's safe to say she's going to be completely okay," the doctor confirmed. "We should get her discharged in a few days, but I want you to bring her back next week. She needs rest."Derek nodded. "Okay, doc."Dulce stiffened at the sound of a familiar voice. She looked in the direction of the voice and saw Derek and Aspen together and another stranger with them."Uhhh..." she slurred her words."Derek, why... are you here... wit
Theodore was shocked at the turn of events. He couldn't believe that he supported Becker. The very man who was behind his daughter's predicament. He couldn't believe that he almost fell for his bullshit. The thought of strangling Becker crossed his mind. He wrapped his hands in a fist as he paced up and down the court's hallways."Fuck!" he said, muttering under his breath. He was so angry and disappointed that he could hardly see straight. After a few minutes, he calmed down and took in a few deep breaths, attempting to calm himself down from his rage. He didn't want the others to know how agitated he was by the situation. No doubt they'd pity him, and that made him even angrier. "Fuck," he repeated, this time quietly. He ran his hand through his hair in an attempt to clear it out of his eyes.``Damnit, damnit, dammit...I shouldn't have been so easily swayed." The last thing he wanted was to make it seem like he had fallen for Becker's lies.Theodore tried to focus on calming himself
The defence calls Ms Cynthia, the nanny to Ms. Dulce Florencia's children, to the stand," the defense attorney said, beaming with pride.Everyone began muttering among themselves and the courtroom buzzed with excitement and speculation about whom it might be. Cynthia tried her best not to gulp nervously but judging by the glances people were sending her way, she failed miserably. As soon as she reached the stand, a familiar voice erupted from the spectators section. "How dare you show up here without telling anyone?!" The voice belonged to a female reporter. "Are you aware that you are a witness to a crime! I bet you're here for the money!" she screamed angrily."Excuse me?" Cynthia snapped. "What do you mean by that? Did this reporter just assume that I was here because of some money? Do you think this is funny?!" Cynthia yelled furiously.Everyone hushed and fell silent. People stared wide eyed at Cynthia, waiting to see how she was going to react. Cynthia stood there, breathing hea
At the crack of dawn, Cynthia had struggled her way out of bed. She ruffled her hair a bit so she wouldn't be recognized before stepping out of her ward sneakily. As she passed the corner of her ward's hallway, a smooth feminine voice stopped her. Her heart sank to the pit of her stomach."Hey! Checked the patient in Room 3?" the voice asked. Cynthia turned and a nurse stood before her."Uh..." She stuttered."Oh, my bad. I assumed you were a nurse," the nurse said. She smiled kindly at Cynthia before gesturing for her to keep going. Cynthia continued on her way. After a brief moment of hesitation, she slipped into the hall towards her destination. She didn't want to be caught unawares and. so she put up a straight face and walked briskly out of the hospital, avoiding conversations of any kind until she got to the road. She glanced around her and relaxed. No one was here. With an air of confidence, she began walking down the sidewalk. Her mind raced over what she might need to do nex
Ms Linda, I wish I could reveal everything to you but I can't. I'm grateful for what you and your daughter have done for me," Cynthia said, wishing they wouldn't ask her more questions. She didn't know the answer to any of them and she wasn't sure she wanted to. All it did was make her want to disappear even more than she already did. "But, I still have things I need to deal with and I need your help.''The girl's mother nodded, accepting her words at face value."What is it? Name it," Linda encouraged her to speak freely."Well...I don't really know how to explain this..."she trailed off not knowing where to start. "But I need to make a call and I was wondering if you could lend me your phone for a few minutes."Cynthia wasn't sure if they'd agree to her request but she needed to ask anyway. Her life would be in danger if anyone ever knew that she was alive."Oh, Cynthia, of course we'll let you borrow our phones to make a call. How about five minutes? You know you just got up and you
"Oh my goodness!" a young girl of nine years old gasps in shock."What is it again, Maya? See something amusing again?" the middle aged lady questions."Mum, look!" she says and points in the direction of Cynthia. Cynthia was walking haphazardly along the road, clinging on to dear life and praying that a miracle happens. "The poor lady looks like she could use some help.""That's because we're not helping." the girl's mother says, as she drives the car closer towards Cynthia, who was trying hard but failing to hold herself up. "We can't just abandon the lady like that . She looks so helpless," Maya reacts sadly."Yes, yes you can," her mother, Ms Linda warns sternly." I can't believe you right now, mum!" the little girl says sadly before folding her arms. together and looking at her side of the window, not wanting to see her mother drive past the wounded lady without helping.Ms Linda scoffs. "Oh come on! I'm just messing with you. Of course we'll help her. Hopefully she's okay but
"Get up you slut!" one of the thugs said.It had been days since Cynthia was constantly tortured and her body showed proof. The marks on her body were enough to leave scars. A lot of bruises and cuts had formed over time. Her clothes were torn, dirty, and her hair messy. She was just lying there on the floor with no energy at all. One of the thugs kicked her face. "Get up or we're gonna fuck it up!" Another thug said angrily. He didn't mean it seriously though; he was just angry because she wasn't moving. Cynthia looked around trying to gather herself as much as possible but she couldn't muster up any strength. She was still too weak, too exhausted even. There weren't any other options though, so she stayed limp. The thugs grabbed her arms harshly and pulled her up.They threw her across the room. They kicked her once before hitting her in the stomach. Cynthia groaned from pain and tried to curl into a fetal position. She wanted to die right then and there. But if she died then the
