I run away from Elder Muriel’s house with uncertainty in my heart and confusing tears in my eyes. I didn’t want to feel this way for Asher or for anybody but the truth was that I was falling for him and it confused me because I didn’t know what to do with my feelings. As I walk, I wrap my arms around myself and go without really having a destination in mind. When I look up, I find myself at the gate to the entrance of the residence of the alpha/luna.“What are you doing here?” A guard-wolf asks me. “I work in the kitchen, I forgot something really important inside.” He grunts and opens the door for me. “Don’t be long.” I smile my thanks and enter, heading towards the kitchen. When I see that no one is around, I slip into the secret tunnel that leads to a room in the Luna’s side of the house. One of the doors lead me to Liana’s bedroom. It is decorated in bright colours, even painted with a bright pink colour that gives me a headache.I didn’t know what to do with my feelings for Asher
Asher’s POVThe previous day…I watched as Alexa ran away from me and out of the maid’s room with tears in her eyes and confusion written on her face. She confused me a lot but what I was sure about was that she wasn’t who she said she was, there was a lot more to her than she let on. I remember the thin white bracelet on her wrist, how she had traced it when I noticed she was uncomfortable. Was that bracelet always on her wrist? It looked like an ordinary white rope with a clasp at the end, nothing special about it but that bracelet looked familiar to me.I shake the thoughts out of my head and head after Alexa but she has already left the building. I walk further before spotting her heading towards the border of the pack. I follow her and expect the guard-wolves on duty to send her back but they don’t and she slips into the woods. “Where is she going to?” I ask Kylan, the guard-wolf. “Beta. She wanted to go for a run.” “In the woods?” “I told him not to let her go.” Kit, the other g
I spend the next few days in a daze, thinking about Asher and the bloody cape. Why did he keep something like that? What did he think about when he saw that box under his bed at night? What were his true feelings for Genevieve? I was tempted to ask him all these questions because thinking about them was driving me crazy. Since I couldn’t handle what was between Asher and me, I decided to focus on the one thing I could handle –Derek and Liana. My note seemed to have stirred some things between the alpha and his luna but I wasn’t satisfied, I wasn’t going to stop until everybody knew them for what they really were. “Did you hear the alpha and the luna arguing last night?” I carefully place the dish I’m washing down and listen to the two omega-maids that just entered the room. “I didn’t but Caroline said she did.” “What exactly is going on between them?” “Caroline says she saw Ally crying in the back of the house last night. Something is definitely up between them.”For the rest of the d
The kiss starts out as a gentle caress of my lips by his, an obvious seduction by Asher. I know I’m being seduced but I don’t have the willpower to push away, I want to be seduced by him. His hands travel from my neck to the small of my back, holding me close to him. Without breaking the kiss, I cradle his face between my hands and deepen the kiss, slipping my tongue into his mouth and duelling with his. Asher groans and tightens his hold on me, squeezing me closer to himself. When it feels like we both can’t breathe, we break the kiss, gulping mouthfuls of air.“Don’t stop.” I whisper. He puts his hands under my thighs and stands, taking me with him from the chair while I wrap my arms around his neck. “Where’s your room?” My room? “There.” Asher carries me to my room and lays me gently on my bed then climbs in after me. I expect him to continue what we started in the living room but he just looks at me, brushing my hair out of my face. “What?” I whisper. “What’s on your mind?” He as
I stare at Asher in shock as he holds my bracelet, openly studying it. “What are you doing?” I ask, hoping the thoughts in my head are wrong. Asher says nothing and continues to study the bracelet in his hands. I grab my shirt and press it to my chest to cover myself and then stand from the bed. I stretch my hand, the hand not holding the shirt to my chest, and say to him, “Give me that back.” When he still doesn’t answer me, I lunge forward, aiming to grab the bracelet out of his hand but he steps back and I miss.“How about I give you a chance to tell me the truth?” Asher finally says, his eyes staring straight into mine. “What is this and why is it important to you?” “It’s just something a friend gave to me. I use it to remember her. Now can you give it back?” Asher takes one step back, then two, then more till his back rests against the door of my room. “I remember these things you know, from back when the war started. The wolves from the Eternal moon pack wore these things, altho
Ida is only able to attack Asher because we caught him unaware and unready, she knows this and is using it fully to her advantage. Ida is able to inflict more wounds to his chest before he is able to push her off and scramble to his feet. I see three deep gashes on his chest and blood pours out like a tap, staining his trousers and leaking onto my floor. The sight of his blood makes Ida giddy and she launches herself at him again. She knocks him down this time but he holds her head when she goes to bite him in the face.Asher holds her head, trying not to get bitten in the face or his neck by her razor sharp teeth. As Ida struggles to break his hold, his eyes go dark and then change into green and grey. One eye glows green and the other glows grey as his wolf makes an appearance. Ida steps back as Asher transforms into his wolf, the raven wolf from the woods. The wolf growls deeply and low then stalks Ida who takes several steps back from him. Then he pounces.I can’t see him coming a
I skip work the next day, asking Hope to make up an excuse about why I wouldn’t be going to work. Hope knows something is up with me but she doesn’t ask, giving me space instead and leaving me till I’m ready to talk about it. I’m really grateful for that. The truth is, I wasn’t going to work because I didn’t want to see Asher, I didn’t know how I was going to react when I saw him and it made me anxious that he was my mate. I still couldn’t believe that had happened to me last night.“Alexa? Wake up!” I groan at Hope’s voice and lift my blanket over my head. “Alexa, don’t make me tickle you.” I gasp and sit up in my bed, shooting a death glare at Hope who is standing beside my bed with a huge smile on her face. “You’re back early.” “No I’m not. It’s almost 7PM.” I frown and look through my curtain to find darkness already painting the sky. “Alexa, did you leave your room at all today?” I shake my head.Hope sighs and sits beside me on the bed. “I don’t know what’s going on with you but
“Hello? Is anybody there? Help me!” I scream but my own words echo back to me. “Please, let me go back home!” I say quietly, looking around my unfamiliar surroundings. I see nothing but trees and darkness, stretching for miles and miles ahead. “Alexa.” I hear someone whisper my name from the darkness. “Who is that? Help me!” “Why?” “What? I don’t understand.” A sudden burst of cold wind has me wrapping my arms around myself to try and stop my shivering.I make my way down the clear path that cuts through the woods, hoping it leads me out of this unsettling place. I can’t help but feel like I’m being watched as I walk down the road, past trees and more trees. It’s all around me and it is all that I can see. “Ida? Ida, please.” I call into the darkness but she doesn’t answer, I can’t feel my wolf with me.My feet stop moving when I spot a figure ahead of me. “Hello?” I call but the figure doesn’t answer, it doesn’t move either. I approach it cautiously then sigh in relief when I see tha
“What?” Asher gawks at me with his lips parted in surprise. I pull him closer to me and he finally breaks out of his surprise when our lips meet in a tangle of messy, deep kisses. And when he bites my lower lip, I lose all the thoughts running in my head. Ramsey, Liana, worry for Asher, everything disappears because he kisses so well. When we both fall forward and land on the bed, I break away from the kiss when my lungs begin to beg for oxygen, my lips parted to gulp in air greedily.“Do you want to slow down a bit?” He asks, almost as out of breath as I am. Instead of answering, I wrap my arms and legs around him and kiss him once more. Somehow, this kiss is even deeper and wilder than the last one so when he breaks away, we are both still out of breath and breathing harder than before. He straddles my hips and unbuttons my trousers while I watch him. Then he is back again, dragging his lips down to my neck, and even lower. The hot trail leaves me out of breath but wanting for more.
“Fine.” My voice is breaks on that one word. “What did you say?” “I said fine. You win, I’ll do what you want.” I say, barely above a whisper. Ramsey steps back from me, studying my face, as if he’s making sure he just heard me right. I don’t think he believes I’m finally giving in, after all the resistance I put up with him. “Seriously?” Ramsey walks back to his seat, laughing the whole way. “If I had known this was all it was going to take to convince you, I would have done this a long time ago.”I wipe the tears on my face. “But you have to let me see him.” “Of course! Let’s go to him now. I would love to see the look on his face when you reject him and come to me.” “No. I want to see him alone.” Ramsey lifts one brow up at me. “You know that isn’t going to happen.” “I’ve already done what you want. You’ve won, so why can’t you just do this small thing for me?” “I can’t do it because I don’t trust you. I know you, Alexa.” “What else can happen?” I ask, opening my arms wide. “If I b
“What is it? Tell me.” I grab on to Ares’ shoulders, digging my nails into them without even realizing it while panic tries to claw its way from my stomach to my throat. “You don’t look too good, Alexa. Maybe you should sit down for a bit.” Ares says, concern filling his features as he frowns at me. I know what he sees, my face has gone deathly pale and my breathing has become heavy. “Just tell me.” I whisper. “Alexa, please.” “Tell me!” I scream at him.Ares shuts his eyes tightly for a moment and when he opens them again, I can see the pain in his eyes. “Your plan didn’t work Alexa. Ramsey didn’t let Asher off the hook. H-he wants to k-kill Asher in three days. No one is going to stop him, Alexa.” My hands slip from Ares’ shoulders and I sway, suddenly feeling lightheaded. Ares wraps his arm around my waist to keep me from face planting on the rough ground.“Hey! We said only a minute! How long does it take to drop the food and come out?” An angry looking guard wolf snaps at Ares. “
“You’re pregnant?” I say, my eyes wide with shock. Liana lets go of me and steps back suddenly looking unsure. She scratches her left arm with her right hand, like a druggie looking for a quick fix. My gaze drops to her stomach but there’s no sign of any pregnancy, at least not yet. If she isn’t lying, the pregnancy must be in the early stages. “How far along are you?” Liana shakes her head and turns away from me. “Liana, how-“”Forget it, okay? Forget I said anything.” I watch her as she heads for a corner in the cell and settles down with her back to me.The doubts that I had when I saw Liana after the days Derek died starts creeping in again. Did she really kill Derek? Did I just accuse an innocent person? Were we just playing a game that Ramsey had made? “Liana, did you tell Ramsey that you are pregnant? Maybe he’ll change his mind about the death sentence.” Liana scoffs at my statement. “He’s your mate, Liana.” And probably the father of your child. I leave that part unsaid but sh
“For the crime of murder you, Liana Dawson is stripped of your position as Luna of the Blood Moon pack. All Privileges that comes with the title will also be taken from you. As for the punishment for your crime, you will be sentenced to death on a date that will be chosen by the council of elders. For now, you will be locked in the cells of the pack.” Muriel who has found his voice again, reads Liana’s verdict to her. For some reason, I feel sorry for her, that she’s ending up this way. Maybe it’s the look on her face that makes me feel pity towards her. But I didn’t have time to feel sorry for her, my turn was next and from the smug look on Muriel’s face, my punishment wasn’t going to be better.“For aiding Liana Dawson in the crime of murdering the alpha, you, Genevieve Franklin will be sentenced to prison for the rest of your life.” “I didn’t ‘aid’ her in killing anyone, I had nothing to do with this.” I say but I know it’s no use, they will only hear what they want to hear. Asher
“You? You’re Genevieve Franklin?” Muriel asks, disbelief in his voice. “Yes.” “You said you have no wolf!” Another elder says and I shrug in response. “How do we know you are telling the truth and this isn’t another stunt you are trying to pull?” “You know I am not lying. You can feel it.” I say, pinning Muriel with a hard stare. Without taking my eyes off of him, I unclasp my bracelet from around my wrist and stuff it into my pocket. My eyes change into the colour of Ida’s own and slowly, the folded brows of Muriel straighten and climb high on his face. I know what is going on, what he sees, and what all of them hear. Every wolf in this hall recognizes Ida and I and they reveal that fact to their hosts.Muriel stumbles backward, almost falling to the ground and the rest of the elders stare silently in shock. The pack is suddenly restless at my revelation. “Why did you come back here?” Ramsey asks. “I came for Derek, I came for Liana, I came for Muriel and all of his elders, I came fo
“Wh…what are you saying Alexa? That’s ridiculous! I never touched that vial, I’ve never even seen it before!” Liana’s voice is shaky. “I didn’t kill him, believe me!” She screams hysterically, eyes wide as she looks around the hall, pleading for people to believe her. “This is a serious accusation, and it is against the Luna, as well. You better have proof to back your claims.” Muriel hisses at me. “I found this vial myself in the room of the Luna, and after the doctor told me that is was a deadly poison, I sent this vial to be tested for any traces –human or wolf. As you are aware, there are places that conduct tests like this to find traces of human and wolf. This is the result of their testing.” I hand the test result to Muriel who eyes it suspiciously. When he sees the name of the testing centre, his brows shoot up in surprise.“Alexa, look at me.” Asher says, but I don’t turn to him, I pretend I don’t hear him calling me and keep my back turned to him. He knows I’m about to do so
“You wanted to see me, Alexa?” Ares says when he meets me behind the residence of the alpha and luna. “Yes. I need your help with something.” “What is it?” “I have a plan, a way to get Asher out of prison. I am going to reveal the truth about Derek’s death.” “Isn’t that dangerous?” “We have no other choice. And if we can get Asher released, Ramsey would have to step down from being the alpha. The people would prefer an alpha accepted by the moon goddess, they’ll be on his side.” Ares nods in agreement. “But if you reveal everything, wouldn’t that put you in danger?” “I’ll find a way around that.” “Okay, what do you need help with?” “I need you to find a way to get the entire pack gathered at the general hall, I’m going to reveal everything there. Can you do that?” Ares nods again. “I can find a way. When?” “I’ll let you know later. Oh, and Ares? Asher cannot find out what I’m doing.” “Of course.”“Are you sure about this?” Ida asks. “We have no choice, Ida but to reveal the truth.” “W
Ramsey didn’t waste any time with the coronation. He just instructed the elders to call for a pack gathering the next day. For the very first time, Liana and Dorothea heard about the elders appointing Ramsey as the new alpha. “We are gathered here today to announce that the council of elders has appointed a new alpha of the pack. After careful deliberations, the council has decided to appoint Ramsey Carson as your new alpha.” Muriel announced, his voice lacking the usual liveliness it always had when he was making announcements.Liana looked like she was going to be sick and Dorothea shook her head sadly. There was confused chatter from everyone in the hall. “Please understand, we cannot keep the seat of the alpha vacant for too long. It would spell danger for the pack.” Muriel said, trying and failing to clear the confusion at the hasty decision.“The elders mean well by this decision.” The noise dies down at the sound of Ramsey’s voice. “There are threats to this pack brought on by
