“They all hated me Sue, I meant nothing to all of them. How could I think I could make them sorry for what they did when they think they did nothing wrong? I’ve been planning this all wrong. My revenge shouldn’t be to make them sorry, it should be to make them regret.” Sue listens quietly as I shed angry tears and vent to her. But then I remember the little girl in one of those rooms, another victim of one of their choices. “But this isn’t about me, can you look after her for some time?” I wipe my tears away and turn to Sue. “Of course.” She says kindly. “Thank you. I have to go back now.” “You’re going back there?” “I have to, my work isn’t over yet. I still have a lot to do.” Sue nods and follows me to the door. “You can always come back here if you choose to.” “I’m grateful for you but you know I can’t. I have to finish what I started.” I take one last glance at the room Valor took Dorothea to. “Take care of her for me, please.” “I will.” I smile at Sue then let myself out of the
Ramsey winks at me and a chill passes up my spine. Why were warning bells ringing loudly in my head because of him? When I was Genevieve, Ramsey also made me feel uncomfortable but we had only met very few times so he wasn’t on my radar then. I didn’t know much about him then and I knew little about him now, so why was he making me feel this way?I can’t take it anymore so I break the eye contact first and turn my attention back to the huge mural painting of Derek and try to ignore the pit in my stomach. “Are you okay?” Hope asks. “I’m fine.” “You kind of zoned out a bit there.” “I guess I’m bored. I thought something more fun had happened.” I lie conveniently. But then my gaze falls on Liana, smiling and clapping along with the crowd and it occurs to me that something fun should have happened. Was it coincidence that Dorothea had escaped Liana’s clutches and then Ramsey had shown up or was I just being paranoid? I push the thought away and focus once more on the mural displayed proud
It turns out that Derek does not expose the ‘incident’ that led to the searching of homes in the pack. I’m so sure it weighs heavy on his mind that he doesn’t find the other dagger or that he didn’t notice it missing in the first place. I smile at the dilemma he must be in but I hadn’t forgotten about Liana. Liana who had ignored my blackmail demands and was thinking that all was well in her world. It was time to shake that world. My suspension ended in two days and I looked forward to it, I looked forward to being in the same area as Liana and Derek. The two days passed by with a blur and I resumed at my new post. My first day working in the kitchen passed by without incident (if I ignore the looks and petty behaviours of the omega-maids I worked with) so when the kitchen was cleared out, I headed for the Luna’s side of the residence. I slipped into the old coat room and entered the tunnel that led to Liana’s office room. I had never opened the hidden door and always watched or liste
It all comes back to me now that I cannot believe I didn’t put the pieces together before. The voice I heard sounds just like Ramsey’s but that also means that his voice was the one in my dreams, the voice in the darkness. Was that why I always felt danger when he was close to me? I step back, wipe my eyes and look into the peephole again but what I see doesn’t change, in fact, they have stopped kissing and Ramsey is trailing his lips along the column of Liana’s neck. I had seen and confirmed with my own eyes now that Liana’s lover was Ramsey.“Wait.” I hear Liana say. “What is it, sweetness?” That term of endearment again, the same one I heard in my nightmare. “What do you think about Alexa?” “Alexa?” “Yes. Don’t think I miss the way you look at her.” Liana grumbles. “And how do I look at her?” Ramsey asks, sounding amused. “Do you like her?” He chuckles at her question. “Honestly, I don’t know what I feel yet. She is interesting.” “So you do like her.” “Sweetness, if I liked her, wh
“What the hell?” Asher mutters then stands, about to head to the door when I grab his arm. He blinks at me, surprised to see me in the room then blinks again as if he remembers how he got here. “Where are you going?” I ask. “What do you mean? I’m going to stop them and get an explanation from her.” “Really? You think that’ll work?” I ask with a raised brow. “Why?” “She’s the Luna, a very important person to the alpha, she’s even above you in rank. Do you really think she’ll admit it, even if you saw it?” “You saw it too!” “Who? The omega-maid that was just punished for seducing the alpha? Who’s going to believe me? Calling me as a witness makes your story even more unbelievable to them.”Asher stares at me while he weighs his options in his mind. “They are gone anyway.” I say after a quick glance at the window. “Do you know who the man with her is?” Asher asks. By now, I was already familiar with the build and stature of Ramsey from all the peeking I’ve been doing so I knew it was Ram
“Is that why she hates you? Because you know her secret?” Asher asks but I don’t say anything. “What else do you know about the Luna?” An image of Dorothea in an old, dusty cell flashes in my mind. “I have to go Beta, I still have work to do.” I stand, about to walk away when Asher grabs my arm. “You know what I’ve noticed about you? You only remember my title when you want to put distance between us. You decide when to be close to me and when to push me away.” I pull my arm away from his grip. “So?” “So Alexa, what are you hiding from me?”I refuse to be pulled in by those green eyes of his so I take a couple of steps back from him and say, “What do you think I’m hiding?” Asher is quiet for a couple of seconds and then he stands as well. “Fine, if that’s the way you want to go about it.” And then he walks away, leaving me to wonder just what he meant. I decide to not let it bother me and go back to work. What I needed to do right now was to find out about the plan Liana and her lover
Sneaking into the residence of the alpha/luna has become easy for me, especially with the hidden tunnels and rooms. All I have to do is to keep to the shadows, watch and wait. The guard-wolves patrolling the residence don’t really take their jobs seriously (especially with the security heavier on the pack borders) so it’s easy to sneak into the back of the residence and to the back of the kitchen. I slip into one of the hidden tunnels and make my way to Liana’s office room to deliver her gift. There’s no one in the room, so I sneak in, leave the letter on her desk and leave through the hidden door in her room. I’m on my way out of the residence when I hear voices. It’s almost one in the morning, who could it be? I follow the voices and trace it to the hall of the elders. I peek through the door and see that there’s a meeting going on. Everyone is there except for Liana. Even Ramsey is there as well.“How can we have no leads to what has been happening?” Derek says, sounding frustrated
Those emerald green eyes of his have turned to dark green fire that burns me where his eyes meet my skin. “Slow down?” He says in a rough voice. “You wanted this, didn’t you?” “I did and I still do but I couldn’t breathe.” I whisper. Asher nods and I can see that he’s trying to break away from that pull, the connection that is still so strong between us even now that our lips aren’t joined together.I tug at my hands on where they are still pinned by his one hand grip and he lets go but still keeps me pinned between the wall and his body. “What are you thinking about?” I ask as my hands come to rest on his shoulders. “This is wrong, at least it should be but it doesn’t feel that way. It’s confusing, you confuse me.” I feel Ida’s displeasure at the fact that we are no longer kissing. Hold on girl. “Then just for today.” “What?” “Be with me just for today without thinking about anything else. All that matters is that I want you and you want me…just for today, for this moment.” I say wh
I can hear the commotion from outside the hall where I am standing but I am in no hurry to go in and quiet everyone down. Instead, I turn back around and head for my room and collapse on my bed. “She’s pregnant with Derek’s child? How is that possible, Ida?” “It doesn’t sound as impossible as you make it seem. But what are we going to do? Do we save the child?” “I feel like we have to. It is Derek’s child anyway. I don’t think he’d want his child to not survive. I’m sure he’d never forgive me if I had the chance to save his child but didn’t.” “That is true. So how do we save the child?” “I don’t know, Ida. I’ve already asked Ramsey for too many favors.”My conversation with Ida is cut short by the sound of shouting outside my bedroom door. I sigh and sit up in my bed. “He’s here.” Ida says. “Let’s go get married I guess.” The door bursts open and Ramsey, dressed in a black tux, his face a mask of pure rage. When he sees me sitting on the bed, he pauses for a moment, shuts the door and
“Luna Alexa?” A knock sounds outside my bedroom door. “Luna?” The person outside calls again. “What is it?” I call back and swing the door open to find a really young Omega maid, probably the same age as Dorothea standing with her hand raised, as if she’s just about to knock on the door again. “Who are you?” Her face goes red and she quickly looks down. “I’m M-Melanie, Luna.” “Why are you calling me Luna?” “T-the al-alpha just o-ordered th-that e-everyone should a-address you a-as L-Luna.” I sigh and rub the side of my head, already feeling too tired of Ramsey’s behaviour.“Why are you here, Melanie?” Melanie’s face becomes even redder and she starts to hiccup. “I-I’m s-sorry.” Her stutter is even worse now and I struggle to understand her. “You are scaring the poor child with your attitude.” Ida says, in a matter-of-fact tone. I sigh again. “Come in.” When she’s in the room, I turn to her and ask “Why are you here, Melanie?” “The al-alpha s-sent me to h-help you get ready for t-the w
The rest of the meeting is tense and uncomfortable. Ramsey is the only one who seems unbothered even though he just announced his marriage to his brother’s former mate who was also considered a criminal. For the rest of the meeting, Muriel doesn’t say anything and just stares at the table in front of him. When the meeting is finally over, I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, a sigh of relief. As the elders begin to exit the hall, Muriel hangs back till Ramsey and I are the only ones left in the halls. I watch uncomfortably as he walks towards us but stops when that unfamiliar man enters the hall and starts talking to Ramsey. Muriel changes course and heads for me instead. “When are you going to stop being a problem for the pack? Why can’t you just know your place?” He whispers to me harshly. “You think I wanted this? This isn’t on me, it’s on you for making a mad man the alpha in the first place.” I say back to him. He stares at me for a moment then says, “Ever since you be
“So? How did it go?” Ramsey asks me, barely hiding his excitement, or maybe he wasn’t hiding it on purpose. “How do you think it went?” I say, my voice sounding tired and low. “Did you reject him? Did he scream from the pain? I heard rejections are very painful. Describe his face to me.” There’s a huge smile on Ramsey’s face and now I’m sure he isn’t bothering to hide his excitement from me, he simply didn’t care.My mind fills with the image of Asher’s face twisted in pain as he stared right at me as I betrayed him. The look in his emerald green eyes asked me over and over again, ‘how could you do this to me?’ but I didn’t have an answer for him. Asher might hate me now, but at least he was alive and that was what mattered most to me. I left him standing there with no explanations, and just walked out the door, determined to never see him again. He must have felt shattered when I turned my back to him without saying another word. I thanked the goddess for not creating us with eyes at
“What?” Asher gawks at me with his lips parted in surprise. I pull him closer to me and he finally breaks out of his surprise when our lips meet in a tangle of messy, deep kisses. And when he bites my lower lip, I lose all the thoughts running in my head. Ramsey, Liana, worry for Asher, everything disappears because he kisses so well. When we both fall forward and land on the bed, I break away from the kiss when my lungs begin to beg for oxygen, my lips parted to gulp in air greedily.“Do you want to slow down a bit?” He asks, almost as out of breath as I am. Instead of answering, I wrap my arms and legs around him and kiss him once more. Somehow, this kiss is even deeper and wilder than the last one so when he breaks away, we are both still out of breath and breathing harder than before. He straddles my hips and unbuttons my trousers while I watch him. Then he is back again, dragging his lips down to my neck, and even lower. The hot trail leaves me out of breath but wanting for more.
“Fine.” My voice is breaks on that one word. “What did you say?” “I said fine. You win, I’ll do what you want.” I say, barely above a whisper. Ramsey steps back from me, studying my face, as if he’s making sure he just heard me right. I don’t think he believes I’m finally giving in, after all the resistance I put up with him. “Seriously?” Ramsey walks back to his seat, laughing the whole way. “If I had known this was all it was going to take to convince you, I would have done this a long time ago.”I wipe the tears on my face. “But you have to let me see him.” “Of course! Let’s go to him now. I would love to see the look on his face when you reject him and come to me.” “No. I want to see him alone.” Ramsey lifts one brow up at me. “You know that isn’t going to happen.” “I’ve already done what you want. You’ve won, so why can’t you just do this small thing for me?” “I can’t do it because I don’t trust you. I know you, Alexa.” “What else can happen?” I ask, opening my arms wide. “If I b
“What is it? Tell me.” I grab on to Ares’ shoulders, digging my nails into them without even realizing it while panic tries to claw its way from my stomach to my throat. “You don’t look too good, Alexa. Maybe you should sit down for a bit.” Ares says, concern filling his features as he frowns at me. I know what he sees, my face has gone deathly pale and my breathing has become heavy. “Just tell me.” I whisper. “Alexa, please.” “Tell me!” I scream at him.Ares shuts his eyes tightly for a moment and when he opens them again, I can see the pain in his eyes. “Your plan didn’t work Alexa. Ramsey didn’t let Asher off the hook. H-he wants to k-kill Asher in three days. No one is going to stop him, Alexa.” My hands slip from Ares’ shoulders and I sway, suddenly feeling lightheaded. Ares wraps his arm around my waist to keep me from face planting on the rough ground.“Hey! We said only a minute! How long does it take to drop the food and come out?” An angry looking guard wolf snaps at Ares. “
“You’re pregnant?” I say, my eyes wide with shock. Liana lets go of me and steps back suddenly looking unsure. She scratches her left arm with her right hand, like a druggie looking for a quick fix. My gaze drops to her stomach but there’s no sign of any pregnancy, at least not yet. If she isn’t lying, the pregnancy must be in the early stages. “How far along are you?” Liana shakes her head and turns away from me. “Liana, how-“”Forget it, okay? Forget I said anything.” I watch her as she heads for a corner in the cell and settles down with her back to me.The doubts that I had when I saw Liana after the days Derek died starts creeping in again. Did she really kill Derek? Did I just accuse an innocent person? Were we just playing a game that Ramsey had made? “Liana, did you tell Ramsey that you are pregnant? Maybe he’ll change his mind about the death sentence.” Liana scoffs at my statement. “He’s your mate, Liana.” And probably the father of your child. I leave that part unsaid but sh
“For the crime of murder you, Liana Dawson is stripped of your position as Luna of the Blood Moon pack. All Privileges that comes with the title will also be taken from you. As for the punishment for your crime, you will be sentenced to death on a date that will be chosen by the council of elders. For now, you will be locked in the cells of the pack.” Muriel who has found his voice again, reads Liana’s verdict to her. For some reason, I feel sorry for her, that she’s ending up this way. Maybe it’s the look on her face that makes me feel pity towards her. But I didn’t have time to feel sorry for her, my turn was next and from the smug look on Muriel’s face, my punishment wasn’t going to be better.“For aiding Liana Dawson in the crime of murdering the alpha, you, Genevieve Franklin will be sentenced to prison for the rest of your life.” “I didn’t ‘aid’ her in killing anyone, I had nothing to do with this.” I say but I know it’s no use, they will only hear what they want to hear.
