A knock sounded on my door— Scary, hard, and insistent.

Swirling a wine glass in my hand, my gaze was fixated on the door, the whistling sound from the kettle triggering the senses in my head.

Only one name popped into my head. Darius.

Darius bouncing back to the top must have prompted his audaciousness because I couldn't count the number of times that he had to send gifts that I had rejected.

Earlier this morning, Darius had sent Saint Laurent heels to my office with some stupid note about how he wanted me to come to dinner with him.

Noon, he sent a bright red sequin dress, accompanied by a bouquet of fresh roses.

Evening, he had sent a silver necklace and another ridiculous note concerning how he was going to make things work between us.

I heaved an exasperated sigh. It was just right that he was the one at the door. When I got home, I had destroyed everything he sent, sending it back to him while leaving a note that I was going to destroy his fucking fac
