Sarah felt like a trap was constricting around her. If she tried to kill Ariana in her house, the scent would be damning evidence. The pregnancy had reduced her flexibility. Her ankles were swollen enough that she couldn't run much less drag a body.

No. Her plan to get rid of Ariana would require a little more finesse.

She had been up most of the night thinking up a storm on how to keep her hide safe.

Pacing, she placed her index finger in her mouth and bit her nail. She would have used Ariana to acquire the information she needed to keep herself alive if only Breeana hadn't gone into heat.

Everything was so messy right now and it was that Breeana's fault. Sarah would break her back coming up with great plans only for that girl to come in and ruin everything. Unintentionally at that. How insulting.

There was nothing to be done. She had to do this through the dangerous method that she'd pushed off as a last resort. She had no choice but to take the bull by the horns.

Sarah took a showe

Breeana exchanged glances with her mate then they both looked at Allen whose face was coloured in embarrassment although he looked like he wanted to go after Sarah.Wow. That had been… unexpected. Sarah and Allen. She had thought that Sarah was still grieving Damien but then again she of all people knew how unpredictable love could be. Although this seemed more like a fatal attraction to her."So…" Reece said, his eyebrow arched."So…" Breeana said, hers arched even higher."Nothing." Allen rubbed the back of his head looking rather uncomfortable and as though he was looking for a way out. He cleared his throat."I came to tell you that Callie and Nelson are back."Breeana's eyes widened in shocked delight and she squealed. They were back! All thoughts of questioning and teasing the hell out of Allen fell to the back of her mind. Why hadn't Callie sent word about their imminent return? Probably to surprise her. Well, she was more than duly surprised."Reece, I have to go and see her."

Reece woke up with a jolt. He hadn't been asleep for more than a few minutes. There was a breach.Breeana sat up next to him blearily."Reece?"He was already standing up from the bed."Get to the safe house. We are under attack. The rogues just hit us."Breeana gasped lightly and straightened, picking up her discarded clothes in a hurry."The safe house? Like hell, I'm going to hide. I'm coming with you."Reece pulled on his shirt over his shorts. "I have alerted Allen and Alex. Allen is gathering the women and children of the pack in the safe house. I need you to go there."Breeana came in front of him, her eyes sparkling."Don't ask me to do this, Reece. Not again. The last time…"Shawn had happened.Reece inhaled deeply and pulled her close, dropping a kiss on her forehead before embracing her."Please baby, do this for me. The rogue's numbers are the highest we've seen in a really long time. I need you to keep our people safe. If you fight next to me, I'll be unable to focus on a

Ivy stood opposite Breeana on the platform. She looked cocky. Her father was an elder, she had probably gotten training since before she could even walk.Breeana on the other hand had been more medically inclined and been coddled by her father since she was his last pup. Her father who was currently guarding the safe house while Ivy ran her mouth.Breeana went at her so fast that Ivy did not expect it but she quickly got her feet underneath her. She lunged at Breeana. Breeana sidestepped it, her movements fluid and loosening up, her leg stretching out to kick out her feet from beneath her.Ivy saw the move coming and leapt back to avoid it then came at her even harder, her claws out as she moved into a partial shift. Breeana centered her core as they moved around the podium.Block, strike, duck, strike. The only sounds Breeana could hear were the sound of their breathing and her pulse racing out of control.Reece was fighting, dying and all she could do was trade blows with an immatur

"We have a mole."This was not how Breeana had envisioned being woken up while recovering from a rather violent attack that had just barely been salvaged by the emergence of unlikely allies. It turned out that Zinora had called on the Primo pack to assist them. That was the reason why Breeana had been unable to locate her at the safe house.Adelaide had then gone on to invite some other neighbouring packs to help them pay their blood debt to the Mountain Coast pack. Between that and forgiving Reece for Shawn, they were pretty much even at this point. Reece had gone on to allow Allen to go for the recon. It turned out that before the attack he had volunteered for it. If he had been allowed to leave earlier, this entire fiasco could have been avoided. The deaths, injuries and losses.Breeana considered her family lucky to have left the battle with little more than injuries."A mole?" Breeana echoed. What mole? How was that even relevant to what had happened? No one could have known th

Breeana nearly fell over in shock. What was Elder Elvis saying? She and Ari had problems but she knew her sister would never do something like that.Ari had dedicated her life and essence of being to the pack and wanted to do everything for the pack. She would never do something that could cause potential harm to the pack much less lead to the loss of so much life. Not her sister.Breeana looked up at Reece who looked equally shocked as the warriors bundled up Ariana and dragged her to the podium. Their mother cried out and tried to follow her only to be blocked by the warriors.Ariana struggled with them as they pulled her forward."What is the meaning of this, Elder Elvis?"Reece levelled a glare at the man as he stood to his feet."Are you aware of who you have just falsely accused?"Elder Elvis bowed decorously, his every movement entitled and assured."Alpha, I would never accuse a member of our pack falsely regardless of who they are or the position they hold. The entire Elder c

Her mother still wasn't conscious and Breeana buried her face in her arms.Ariana. Ariana. Her sister. Alex's arm came around her shoulder as though he could hear her thoughts. Breeana turned and pressed her face into his shirt and her brother embraced her. When her mother had collapsed, Breeana had run towards her. Her injury was forgotten, her pain a mere memory. The trial had continued without a thought to her mother. Breeana didn't see the conclusion of the trial as she rushed her mom to the hospital but Alex had filled her in.Told her how Sarah had interceded for Ariana claiming the evidence was too circumstantial to actually be upheld. She didn't deserve to die for it.He told her how her outcries were brushed aside.Imagine that. Even Sarah had done more to save Ari's life than she had. Then Reece had hijacked the sentencing from the council stating that he wouldn't see Ariana killed after all her service to the pack and the fact that she was his mate's sister. He also said th

"Someone is here to see you."Ariana stood up quickly. It must be Breeana. She had been waiting for her sister. They had so much to talk about. Ariana was more than thankful for Reece's interference in sparing her life. She knew he had done it for his mate but it didn't erase her gratitude. She wanted to apologise to Breeana for all she had done before they shipped her off to whatever location the elders decided on. That had been Reece's concession to them. Even he wouldn't know where they sent her.Her mind drifted and she wondered how her mother was doing. She knew her mother was not the sort of woman to just collapse because of some shocking news so she wondered if something was wrong."Ariana."Ariana paused."Sarah? What are you doing here?"She was still unsure about how she felt about her old friend. She had been there for her even going as far as begging on her behalf endangering her life. However, on the flip side, Sarah encouraged a part of her that she wanted to control. To

"The Mountain Coast pack has sent someone to investigate. If we aren't careful, our secret would be ousted." Sarah informed them.Since her last conversation with Damien, this was the first time they had contacted her. Probably to make her sweat. Not that she had minded. It had just given her more time to sort out the Ariana issue without their meddling."And your identity is secured?"Of course, it was. Ariana had taken the bait so beautifully that even she was surprised. It had been two days since she left and the pack was relatively calm now. To her knowledge, Ariana had never gotten to speak with Breeana before she left.Combined with the fact that the Elder council hadn't disclosed exactly where they were sending her to, there was no way for them to resolve their misunderstanding.Ariana, the only person who could have disclosed her identity was gone and now, now she would play as she liked."Yes, my identity is secure.""Then we will take care of this investigator."Allen? Six Years Later"Can I take you to lunch?"Sarah threw a mean left hook that had Jared struggling to keep his balance. He always favoured his right a little bit too much."No.""Sarah…"She didn't let him continue before releasing a barrage of blows that got his head back into the fight and away from emotional talks. An hour later, she was walking out of the training centre with a bag slung over her shoulder after her shower."Sarah, please wait up."She didn't. She kept walking because she really didn't want to have this conversation. He easily caught up to her though with his long legs."So off to pick up Cole?"Sarah stopped walking."What do you want? Please speak directly."Jared looked at her with hurt brown eyes that eerily reminded her of Allen."I'm trying to have a conversation with you, Sarah.""And I'm trying not to. We train together. That's all.""It doesn't have to be. We can be friends–""I apologise for my mistake. I shall find another trainer." Sarah nodded brusquely

Breeana opened her eyes and nearly screamed.Reece. She had to get to Reece. But what could she do on her own?No, if there was one thing that Anya had thought of her it was that she needed backup. She knew that Reece and the others had a contingency plan where their forces could charge in and rescue them but that plan had relied on the use of their pack links. She didn't even know where the forces were situated. Reece hadn't told her and she hadn't thought to ask."What do I do? What should I do?"She paced the length of her room and then inspiration struck. Of course. How could she have forgotten?Sarah. She would know.*****"We need to get to them now."Sarah had known. She had known that something like this would happen. She had suspected it and now Allen was trapped in a room with Damien she would have felt fear if there was time.Every minute she dawdled was time that Allen couldn't afford especially with the vendetta that Damien had against him."I know where they are camped a

Breeana puked again and her belly contracted in response. She was in the bathroom for another hour or so before she felt strong enough to make her way out.She had woken up with morning sickness and by God, it wasn't what it was hyped up to be.She hadn't even been able to wish Reece goodbye properly and she knew that if the coronation hadn't been that day he would have stayed with her until she felt better. She was barely seated on her bed before she felt a tug on the bond. It wasn't unusual these days for her to feel that way but what made her pause was the fact that Reece was in a closed-door meeting with a cold-blooded murderer. Relaxing herself, she let herself drift until she connected with him and then she was…******"Today we are here for something momentous. Because for the first one in centuries, we will be welcoming in a monarch. Someone who will lead us through these dark abysmal times."Reece sat in his seat exchanging side glances with some of his allies. Adelaide looke

"You are asking me to stay behind?" Breeana glared at Reece, she couldn't believe that mere days ago she had cried and wished desperately that he would wake up.Now she felt the almost stifling urge to suffocate him. Ugh. He was so annoying and so obstinate that it was a marvel that they were still together.Truly."I just want you to stay safe while all this is going on." He leaned in and dropped a kiss on her forehead before touching her belly. "You and our child."Breeans pulled away before she would melt against his concern and sweet words the way she had been melting for the past few days since he woke up.Suffice to say that their fight had been long forgotten almost immediately after he woke up and she kissed him like the weirdo she was.No, Breeana do not think of kisses. She chided herself. Or of all the other things he had done to her and she had done to him."So I'm supposed to just sit in my hands while all the men I care about go off to fight a maniac? Come on, Reece. I'

"You shacked up with a council member?"Breeana looked at Sarah shocked beyond belief.Sarah blushed. "I didn't know that at first."Breeana kept staring at her."And he's Cole's dad?""Yes."When Breeana had come to threaten Sarah to talk to her the last thing she had thought of was this.Sarah had taken one look at her thunderous expression and scented the blood on her before letting her in and telling her what had to be the surprising thing that Breeana had heard since the beginning of this fiasco."Bloody hell, does Allen know about this?" Was she the only one to be blindsided by all this?"I… I haven't gotten around to telling him I guess I just wanted it to go away." Sarah brushed her hair out of her face. "He's the only father that Cole will ever have. The only father I want my child to have. I thought if I ignored it, it would stay that way."Breeana looked at her like she had hit her head on the wall one too many times. Wanted what to go away? For all they knew this was proba

The ambush was quiet, this was their land after all. They knew every nook and cranny of it and more than that they were preternaturally quick and quiet. The hunters on the other hand were loud and clumsy in comparison. They must have thought they would take their pack the way they had taken the others. They were wrong. As the hunters sat around their campfire, discussing their strategy for the upcoming attack, they surrounded them."We enter from the north and–"Allen gave the signal and they attacked. The hunters quickly reached for their weapons, but they were too slow and the werewolves were too fast. They pounced on the hunters, their razor-sharp claws tearing through flesh and bone. The hunters fought back with guns and knives, but they were no match for the werewolves' supernatural strength and agility. The air was filled with the sound of snarling and screaming as the werewolves tore apart their prey. The hunters tried to retreat, but the werewolves were relentless, chasing the

Poison. The word resounded over and over in her head long after Reece had been wheeled into the ER.Someone had poisoned him.She felt a touch on her shoulder. It was Sarah."It's going to be fine, Bree." She comforted her, her voice low and compassionate.Only that was a farce, wasn't it?A terrible suspicion bloomed in her mind as she turned on Sarah. She had been there last night and suddenly Reece got poisoned. She didn't think it was a coincidence.Breeana gripped her by her throat watching her choke."It was you wasn't it?" Breeana squeezed harder, her vision going red. They had granted her mercy and she had gone and done this.Reece was… her mate was…. Just when she had wanted to give their relationship another shot. It was almost too cruel."I swear…" Sarah coughed trying to breathe through the strangling sensation around her throat where Breeana held her immobile."Don't fucking lie to me. "We should just execute her and be done with it." Breeana said offhandedly and Reece stifled a laugh."Sure. Any more unreasonable requests you would like to add?"Breeana mock glared at him but a smile peeked through. She was surprised that they could even joke about this. The moment she had seen Ivy she had frozen thinking about the last time they had seen each other.Ivy didn't try to attack them or even struggle. She just turned herself in and allowed herself to be detained. Breeana and Reece had been shocked to hear that she had lost her pregnancy and that she was willing to sell her father and his moles in their pack out in exchange for her freedom."Why did you even bother coming back? You could have just stayed in Europe. There is no way we would have tracked you down." Breeana asked her still suspicious about her return and willingness.Ivy locked gazes with her.
