Charlotte's pov

The first thing I noticed about the male voice entering the door was that it sounded very familiar, like one I had heard before. But I quickly dismissed it as a mix of emotions. Then the voice asked again, this time after closing the door,

"Can I come closer?" He sought my approval to approach me. The faint light at the far end cast a slight shadow on me, but it wasn't bright enough to reveal my face or the clothes I was wearing.

"Yes...s," I replied.

"Sweetheart, I was here about thirty minutes ago, and I thought you might not make it." Now he was very close, holding my fingers. I was about to say something when he gently placed his hand over my mouth and said,

"You don't need to apologize. Your memory was the strongest feeling I have ever had..." At this point, I couldn't hold back anymore. Deep down in my heart, I knew who was speaking, and joy overflowed as I said,

"Tyler?" When I called his name, he was shocked and immediately removed his hand from m

Ella's pov My life has been a difficult journey that I never wanted to share with anyone, especially my daughter Charlotte. I've always been afraid of burdening her with the trauma I've managed to overcome over the years. So, all this time, I've only given her a fabricated version of my story. She grew up believing that her dad and I separated early in our marriage and that was what I told her. That was a huge lie, but I thought it was better for her mental well-being when she was young. I didn't think she could handle the harsh truth about my life and what I have passed through. If only I had known, I wouldn't have displayed that old picture on my bedroom wall. It's the source of all these issues. Charlotte has never been sad or felt hungry for her father's presence. But when she asked me how she was conceived, I knew it was time to reveal the truth to her. At first, I hesitated and didn't want to disclose what I had been hiding. "My dear, can we talk about this when you're in

Charlotte's pov Why do I lose myself whenever I see anything related to Tyler? Just a message from him and my legs, fingertips and heart would start trembling. I used to think that once I had made love with him for once, it would be over, but it seemed like it was just the beginning of my feelings for him. The next day, after Tyler and I slept together, it became a struggle. Everyone seemed interested in knowing who I had been with. My mom, on one end, wanted to know about my new man. She even wanted to read Tyler's apology letter if my new assumed boyfriend had broken my trust and love. She was so curious about it that I had to make up a story that wasn't true, and she still had her eyes on me before she left with her boyfriend. I could recall Ava calling me again after I mistook her for her dad and spoke angrily to her on the phone. "Charlotte, how was it? Isn't he the one?" Ava asked. "Ava, please, no. Author's pov It was in the evening and Luke was in his house and he was about to enter the bathroom when he heard the sound of a car. No one had called him that he or she was coming to visit him. Filled with curiosity, he came out of his room and went to the sitting room, then from its window, he looked through and saw that it was one of his close friends Martins who had come. Instantly, he went to the main door and opened it. Martins was still about to come out of his car when Luke opened the door and stood at the door ro wait for his friend. “Martins…,” he called his name and there was a big bottle of wine in his hand. From the look of things, Martins was a bit drunk, but he could still control himself. Martins ignored his greeting and walked closer to him and said, “I thought you traveled. Let's go into the car. What's happening to you? I don't see you in the club any longer. Don't tell me you are cooling off.” “I…I came,” he smiled and stammered and was smiling beneath it

Charlotte's pov The moment I saw Tyler standing in front of the door, I froze and it was as if I did something and I was caught and had nowhere to run to. I couldn't close the door and his right hand was at his back. I didn't know how I did it. We were both looking at each other and he took his eyes away from me in a second and as he blinked and looked at me, I was gone. I swiftly entered my room and the door was closed. I guess he thought my mum was around and I sensed he stayed in the sitting room for a while and a few seconds later, I heard him calling my name. “Charlotte! Charlotte!!” He called and I didn't know what came over me and I came close to my door and stayed there to listen to his voice and my foot mistakenly hit my door and he immediately knew where I was and walked towards that door and it was my room. “Charlotte, I know this might be strange to your ears. • Resisting My Best Friend's Dad    Will he ever believe me again?

Charlotte's pov Is jealousy associated with love? I could see it on Tyler's face. He wasn't happy at all and I could see how the expressions on his face were even after he had dropped me in my house. When he asked me who Paul was, I said, “Paul is an old friend in college. A very close friend and at several times, he asked me out, but I declined it because I was in love with Harry. But now he is married and they have a daughter called Carol.” “Why will a married man be so close to you when you both come out of the room?” As soon as he said that words, I came out openly and said, “Please, what do you want? I enjoy every moment spent with you.” I said and when I remembered what Tyler said after I asked him that question, I paused my thoughts for a while. I was in my room contemplating. Does Tyler want a close or open relationship? How can they be? How can I date him in the presence of my best friend? In his own words, he said, “Charlotte, this might be a hard truth, but I ne

  • Resisting My Best Friend's Dad    Is Paul your boyfriend?

Charlotte's pov Tyler has been incredibly supportive, so when I initially ignored his call, it pained me deeply. The thought of sitting at the bar with Paul seemed impossible. It felt as though I was already in a relationship with Tyler, and guilt consumed my mind. It wasn't that I didn't want to answer Tyler's call, but I didn't want to do it in front of Paul. Despite my attempt to leave the bar, Paul followed me and tried to hold my hand, thinking that his actions had caused my sudden decision to leave. "What did I do?" He asked, surprising me with his momentary sobriety. "Nothing! I just needed to go home," I replied. Luckily, when I stepped out of the bar, there was an available white taxi waiting right in front, and I got in. "I'll give you a call," I said to Paul, feeling sorry for him for not understanding the reason behind my departure. For the third time, Tyler called me. This time, nothing held me back from answering his call. "Hello, my darling!" Those words slipp

Charlotte's pov Sometimes, when you feel guilty about something, you might expect others to have similar thoughts. When my mum asked me the question, "Who was the person that dropped you off in that car that just left?" I was confused. I thought that she had somehow found out what I had been avoiding and didn't want anyone to know. It took me a while, not just a few seconds, to gather my thoughts. At first, I walked past her and was almost in my room when she followed me, trying to reach out and hold my hand, like a mother-daughter gesture, and asked again, "Can't you tell me who brought you home? What are you hiding?" I looked into her eyes and realized she wasn't going to accept "no" for an answer. So, I said, "It was Tyler, my best friend's dad." I had already prepared in my mind what to say next, depending on her response. "How kind of him. Despite it being nighttime, he still took the time to come and pick you up. He must see you like a daughter, that is what every fa

Author's pov Paul was at the dining table with his wife when Charlotte's call caused his phone to ring out. Not wanting his wife to know, he quickly silenced the call and continued eating. Seconds later, his phone rang again and this time, Sara asked, “Wouldn’t you pick up your call? Who is calling that you are avoiding?” “It's Charlotte. She wants me to do something for her, but I don't think I have that chance.” He paused and put a spoon of food into his mouth. Sara, who held her cutleries with both hands was looking at her husband to continue and when she saw that he was chewing his food, she too took some food and when she saw that Paul wasn't willing to speak again, she asked, “What's she asking you to do?”Paul stole a glance and returned his eyes to his meal and slightly shook his head and said, “You will not understand. • Resisting My Best Friend's Dad    Happy ending

Author’s pov Taylor was very anxious and he was very uncomfortable as things were going. This wasn't what he and Gabriel and the nurse they had already paid had planned. The high ranking doctor wasn't around and no one could administer any drug to Larisa without his approval. When the time was 4pm, Taylor took Gabriel for the third time and they went out. “What's happening? I'm running out of patience. This is not what we planned. Larisa and the baby are doing fine. What are you waiting for?” “I don't think we can do anything now. I guess it will be tomorrow.” “Tomorrow? I overheard the doctor saying that she is strong and she can go home tomorrow. Is this what we planned?” Taylor asked. “Why can't we give her the drug in your house? It will be very easy that time. The nurse we are using will be the one to administer it.” “I am getting the feeling that something is going wrong somewhere.” Taylor said. “Don't have that thinking.” “Why will I not have that thinking? Author's pov It’s now nine months later and Larisa had started sensing the sign of giving birth and it started very early in the morning. Then Dylan got up from the bed. “We need to go back to your city.” “Then call your brother that we are coming.”Dylan immediately called Taylor and informed him of their coming. Before now, Taylor had begged Dylan to bring Larisa so that he could sign the birth certificate after she delivers. About two hours after Taylor had finished talking to Dylan, he quickly called Gabriel's phone number."HelloGabriel, the time has come. Larisa is finally coming, but there is a littleproblem." "What's the problem?" Gabriel askedas he sensed Taylor's panic. "I guess Larisa is in labor." "How do you know?" Gabriel asked. "Dylan called me and told me to collect to the airport with an ambulance. It's obvious. What if she gives birth at the plane or airport? Larisa has killed me. The thought out plan is about to be ruined." Taylor and his friend,

  • Resisting My Best Friend's Dad    An advice from a neighbor

Larisa's pov Why wouldn't I continue to love Dylan? Initially, I had my doubts about whether he would accept what I had to tell him. Deep down, it was a test, and he didn't know that I was about to judge him based on his response. From what I gathered from Dylan's parents, he didn't like visiting his hometown. And after he shared with me what Taylor had done to him, I understood why he rarely went there. But because of the love he had for me, he had decided to accompany me to Taylor's house when it’s due for me to give birth. I still remember when Dylan took his phone and called Taylor, saying, "Hi Taylor, I have seen Larisa..." "That's wonderful," Taylor sounded genuinely excited, and Dylan put his phone on speaker mode so that I could hear their conversation clearly. "But she mentioned something that makes it difficult for her to come." "What's that?" Taylor asked eagerly. "She said she can't come alone to your house. Why is she so afraid? Have you ever hit her whe

  • Resisting My Best Friend's Dad    Dylan once loved someone

Larisa’s pov It's been eight hours since Dylan told me about his relationship with Tessy. Now I understand why Dylan hesitated to pursue me, even though he had feelings for me. He was afraid it would seem like payback if he chose me. I can see his concerns clearly. It doesn't mean he doesn't love me, but it would appear calculated and vengeful. If I were the judge in his case with Taylor, I would say Taylor deserves the payback. Why would he act so wickedly? Jealousy! But it's not anyone's fault if he couldn't treat a woman well. Right now, I can't stay with Taylor anymore. It's like those girls he dated who ended the relationship and ran away. It also justifies my decision to escape from his manipulative hostility. As I continued to reflect on every word Dylan said and compared it to his and Taylor's past, I noticed a clear contrast. I couldn't sit on my bed any longer, analyzing my thoughts. My feet urged me to move around the house. Dylan had left for an important appointment,

Dyan’s pov The next day, by coincidence, I called Tessy in the morning and asked her to come to my place at 5 pm. This happened without Taylor's knowledge. However, it sparked Tessy's desire to meet Taylor at the bar at 4 pm, and she kept it a secret from me.At 3:30 pm, Taylor got ready, took a shower, and dressed nicely. As he was about to leave the house, I jokingly said, "Looks like you found someone new." He smiled at me and left in his car. Our dad was wealthy and made sure we had everything we needed.Because Tessy was eager, she arrived at Keans bar before Taylor, who was driving. Taylor called Tessy from his car, asking, "Where are you?" "I'm already inside the bar," she replied. "Please come out," he said when he spotted someone he knew, and that person also knew Tessy as my girlfriend.Tessy came out, wearing a brown dress with black dots on the front. When she saw Taylor's car, she walked closer to it. "Get inside. Come inside," he said quickly, opening the car doo

  • Resisting My Best Friend's Dad    How it happened

Dylan’s pov "Quit being envious of what your brother has..." These were the words spoken by my mother when Taylor and I were still very young. She was talking to Taylor, and as a mother, she had noticed our contrasting personalities. She observed that whatever belonged to me always caught Taylor's attention. Taylor was never content with his own possessions and often neglected to take care of them. When we were kids, Taylor had a strong, muscular physique, which gave him an advantage over me when it came to forcefully claiming ownership. In the absence of our parents, he would become domineering, and I would quickly give up what was mine to avoid any physical confrontation. At first, I thought this was normal, but as we entered our teenage years, I realized it was escalating. It felt like I was living in bondage, where the only way to escape was by willingly giving away what was rightfully mine. When our parents were around, he would behave appropriately, and everything I had woul

  • Resisting My Best Friend's Dad    Is Tessy your girlfriend?

Author's pov "It's not about whether I read the text, but it's the content of the text and the urgency to talk to you. She called you ten times. I saw her myself. I was the one who opened the door for her when she came to your parents' house when your mom invited me. Your mum even wanted us to get to know each other. She introduced her as your girlfriend and introduced me as Taylor's girlfriend." Larisa paused and looked at Dylan. "Aren't you going to say anything?" she asked. "You've been the one talking," he responded. "Okay, let me ask you the question again. Who is Tessy?"Dylan let out a big sigh and tried to stomp his foot on the floor. "My love, this isn't the right time to tell you about her. It's too early. It's only the second day of your stay here..." "Are you hiding something from me? Don't you know that as women, we don't like secrets in a relationship? We want to know everything about our partner. It gives us a sense of security. Let's be honest with each oth

Author’s pov Dylan was still taken aback by Taylor's sudden appearance and didn't have a moment to go inside and inform Larisa. He tried to gather himself and opened the door, allowing Taylor to enter, assuming Larisa hadn't heard them. "How did you manage to get to New York so early?" Dylan kept his gaze fixed on Taylor as he took a seat on the chair to the right. "Excuse me, let me change my clothes," Dylan quickly said, leaving the living room and heading inside, where he spotted Larisa standing near the door, eavesdropping. "How did he find out I was in New York?" Larisa whispered, her voice hushed. "I don't know, he must have taken the night flight. Stay calm, stay here. Let me go and talk to him. I came here to inform you," Dylan replied, forgetting to change out of his nightwear. His primary intention was to let Larisa know that his brother was around, unaware that she had overheard their conversation. When Dylan returned to the living room, still clad in his nightgow

Larisa’s pov There's no greater feeling than knowing that the mission you're about to take will lead you to see the most enchanting person in your life. That's exactly how I felt when I left Taylor's parents' house, pretending I was going to a nearby grocery store to pick up a few things. The escape was smooth, and neither Tyler nor Charlotte suspected a thing. They trusted me and didn't feel the need to accompany me. What should have been just an hour or two journey took me far away. Dyan had already booked a flight for me. All I had to do was leave the house and make my way to the airport. It was as simple as that. Out of love and affection, I left my clothes and bag behind, not wanting to leave any traces of my departure. What can compare to the bliss of love and laughter? Nothing! Not even the expensive clothes Taylor bought for me. Material possessions can be replaced anytime, but my love for Dyan is irreplaceable.
