Ivy's POV

As I make my way back to my bedroom, I can’t suppress the cyclone of thoughts whirling through my mind.

I told Spencer I loved him.

I told Spencer I loved him.

And he said it back.

What does it all mean?

I open the door to my bedroom quickly and flop down onto my bed. My hair splays out underneath me, and I sink into the soft mattress. I drag a hand down my face, replaying the day’s events.

It’s been a lot–almost too much to keep track of.

From the dungeon break to my conversation with Jason to this, the death of the Lycan King, as well as the revelation of Delilah and Colin–

Where do I even begin?

I’d like to say my thoughts follow the more logical train of thought. But of course, because it’s him, all I can think about is Spencer.

I don’t think he and Delilah are really engaged.

Or–I believe they’re engaged. I don’t believe they’re engaged in a way that matters. I think back to what Delilah said to me when she initially approached me and asked for my help finding

Ivy's POVBefore I get the chance to scream for help, one of the “kitchen staff” slaps his greasy palm over my mouth. “M-mmph!” The scream is swallowed back into my throat, and I can feel tears starting to well up in my eyes. I try to struggle away from the firm grasp, but just then, the second member of the kitchen staff steps up behind me. I crash into his large body. Adrenaline course through my veins, a steady thrum, but there’s nowhere for it to go as large hands close around my wrists. The two men have me pinned. “Now, listen here, girlie,” the first man says. He pushes his hand even further against my mouth, and I squirm uncomfortably as my neck is twisted against the torso of the second man. “We’re agents of Elder Jet. You’ve heard of him, hm? Even met him in person? So you’re no stranger to what he’s capable of. Blink once if you’re with me so far.” I have no idea what to do, but my heart is racing and I’m starting to feel lightheaded from the man’s hand pressed against

Spencer's POV“I don’t know any spies.” I narrow my eyes at Alpha Leo as he leans back on the couch. Right away, my first instinct is to dismiss him. I saw how crucial Alpha Leo was to Elder Jet’s operation–the idea that he wouldn’t know anything about the spies is ludicrous to me. But if he is lying, Alpha Leo certainly seems content in his lie. “There’s no way that’s true,” I say with a scoff. “You have to know about the palace’s internal operations–you have to know something, at least! Anything!” “That wasn’t part of what I was working on!” Alpha Leo protests. He huffs, slumping back into his seat, and rolls his eyes. “Look, I know we had someone in the palace awhile back. Lance Silvers. He was sent in to take care of that half-witch boy, wasn’t he? But you’ve already caught him, and he wasn’t here to do much besides dispose of the boy! So he doesn’t matter.” “How did you know Silvers was captured?” I ask, jabbing an accusatory finger in Alpha Leo’s direction. “Has someone bee

Spencer's POVAs soon as my message to Captain McAndrews goes through, I return my focus to Alpha Leo. He’s still sprawled out on Gamma Everly’s couch. He’s been helpful so far, sure, but there’s still something so revolting about watching a man I know as my enemy recline in my palace. “There’s just one thing I keep wondering,” I say slowly. “How could the poison have gotten into my father’s system?” I’m asking the question to Gamma Everly, not Alpha Leo. I figure this sort of thing will be out of his wheelhouse. But much to my surprise, Alpha Leo is the one who narrows his eyes in thought. “Just track the history of his food service,” Alpha Leo says. “The poison was ingested, right? Freshly so. Looking at his stomach contents would probably do the trick. Or tracing back whether he had any food ordered to his office. Based on Doctor Danbury’s report, it was a quick-acting poison. Look at the time frame for that.” I hesitate, trying to figure out if there’s any sense to what he’s

Spencer's POV“We need to go.” I stand up abruptly, already making my way over to the door. Gamma Everly follows closely behind me, expression a mask of concern. “What about Leo?” She asks softly. I groan. I don’t feel comfortable leaving him alone here unsupervised, but bringing him to the dungeon feels risky–he’s already broken out of there once, after all. And I wouldn’t put it past Alpha Leo to try and slip away while Gamma Everly and I are distracted by the certain chaos that will greet us once we make out way to the dungeon. I quickly mind linking a pair of guards to remain stationed outside of Gamma Everly’s room. “I’m gonna have a guard posted,” I reply as I open the door and step into the hallway. Already, I can see them rounding the corner in their approach. “That will have to do for now.” She nods, shutting the door behind me. “What’s going on?” “There’s an ongoing disturbance in the dungeon,” I reply, moving briskly. “I just got the mind link from a guard. Spencer's POVThe moment I realize who Delilah is fighting, a cold shiver of realization runs down my spine. It all makes sense now–the royal deception, the chaos that’s been plaguing this entire day, the endless destruction wrought about the dungeon. My blood runs cold as I watch the familiar wolf dig his claws into Delilah’s flank, pulling up tufts of her jet black fur and tossing them about the dungeon floor. Delilah is currently locked in vicious, unrelenting combat with Captain McAndrews. Some part of me is impressed at the sight before me–despite the advanced training and strength of her opponent, Delilah is moving swiftly and fluidly, retaliating and swiping with a confidence I wouldn’t have usually expected. She may be bleeding, but so is Captain McAndrews. For the time being, at least, she’s managed to hold her own. “Is that…” Gamma Everly breathes out beside me. I nod shakily. “Yes,” I reply. “That’s Captain McAndrews.” Gamma Everly looks at the scene in abject horror

Spencer's POV“Traitor!” The words fly from my lips, ragged and brutal as I hurl myself towards Captain McAndrews. “Spencer, I didn’t do anything, he was attacking me–” Delilah begins. She stumbles away from Captain McAndrews as I crash into him hard, shoving him aggressively into the wall. I relish the sound of his body hitting the rough stone. There’s no hesitation in my strikes as I land punch after punch all along Captain McAndrews’ attacks, dodging his claws with remarkable ease and fluidity. It’s an exceptionally well-known mark of disrespect to fight a shifted warrior while still in your human state, but I don’t feel as though Captain McAndrews is particularly deserving of my respect right now. I want him to feel shame as I beat him to a pulp. I wrap my large hands around his throat and pull him away from the wall before shoving him back into it. This time, his spine hits one of the outcroppings in the rocky walls, and a sick smirk crosses my face at Captain McAndrews’ expr

Spencer's POVThe moment one of the medics places a thick roll of bandages in my hand, I set about tying up Captain McAndrews. As I bind his wrists and ankles together, making sure he’s secured in such a way that he couldn’t even stand up if he wanted to, I look him over carefully to make sure none of the wounds that have been dealt to him are fatal. There’s blood streaking Captain McAndrews’ clothes, as well as a great amount of the stuff matted to the back of his head where his skull hit the wall, but he’s still breathing. He still has a pulse. As I secure the final knot around his wrists, I can feel the weak thrum of his heartbeat pulsing against the fabric. “Keep him alive, but don’t give him any painkillers,” I instruct the medics. “And if you can keep him stable without bringing him to the hospital, keep him here.” One of the medics, a thin man wheeling over a gurney, hesitates for a moment. “I understand that Captain McAndrews extremely important to the palace guard, Your Hi

I can’t remember the last time Colin thanked me for anything–in fact, I don’t think he ever has before. “Of course,” I reply impassively. “He was an intruder in the dungeon and a traitor to the crown. I wasn’t just going to let him kill you and get away with his evil plan.” Colin chuckles lightly. “All you had to say was that you ‘weren’t just going to let him kill me.’ You didn’t have to tack on the part about only doing it so he wouldn’t get away with his evil plan.” I return the slight smile on his face. “I could have, couldn’t I,” I say. “Well, thank you,” Colin says again. “No problem.” I hesitate for a moment before adding, “I wasn’t just going to let him kill you.” Colin beams up at me, and despite the haze of pain on his face, he looks genuinely happy. “What are we going to do now?” Colin asks. “I mean–obviously, that will was forged. • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 430: The Coronation

Ivy’s POV“Are you ready?” I whisper the question to Spencer as we stand behind a huge set of double doors. I’ve known him as the Lycan King for several weeks now, and been referred to as the Lycan Queen since our wedding, but today is the day it becomes official. Today is the day of the coronation. And I couldn’t be more excited. Every citizen of the Lycan Kingdom physically able to be in attendance is seated just beyond those double doors, dressed in their finest attire. I can hear the waning sounds of the band playing our anthem triumphantly, can hear the heavy steel-toed footfalls of our military as they carry out their grand display. It’s a show of strength and endurance–everything about today has been structured to portray power and confidence, from the massive outdoor ceremony in the palace’s courtyard to the full military regalia on display. “Ready as ever,” Spencer replies. “This is what I was born to, after all.” There’s a firm set to his jaw and iron in his posture. Spencer’s POV“Congratulations, Colin!” My mother is the first one to acknowledge the news, smiling gleefully as she looks towards her son and his fiancée. Now that their secret is out, Delilah is positively beaming as she slips the engagement ring out of her pocket and onto her finger, waving her hand back and forth. I chuckle lowly as the happy couple kisses tenderly. I just know they’re going to have the most unnecessarily extravagant wedding possible, and they’re going to adore every second of it. “I’m telling you, they’re only together because Delilah and I were engaged,” I murmur to Ivy out of the corner of my mouth. She rolls her eyes, but she’s grinning. “If you say so, Spencer.” “Must be something in the air,” Sylvia remarks. “I heard Gamma Everly and Captain Leo got engaged, too!” At that news, I smile genuinely. After all the heartbreak she’s endured over the years, I’m glad Gamma Everly has finally found a man who can match her. It seems that my wedding to Ivy was on

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 428: Together At Last

Spencer’s POVIt’s been a couple days since I returned from the Sunclash pack and Ivy began recovering from the plague, and things have finally had a chance to settle into a routine. Beta Wilson and Doctor Danbury have been working restlessly to distribute the antidote to those in need far and wide. We’ve eradicated it completely from the Lycan kingdom and have almost finished scrubbing it from the outer packs. All of Elder Jet’s rebels have been placed in our custody, with trials pending. Based on the reports from other packs as well as the newly-formed Werewolf Council, it seems as though Elder Jet’s toxic ideology has been defeated for good. We still have lots to do to repair our relationship with the werewolves, of course, but we’re in a good place to begin that work. And as soon as Ivy returns to her full strength, I’m excited for us to begin that work together. I set down the last stack of papers on my desk and push open the door to my office, wandering back into the main bo

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 427: Family

Ivy’s POV“What is it?” Those are the last words I hear, spoken in Spencer’s soothing, familiar voice, before I slip into an uneasy half-sleep. I can feel blankets being shifted and jostled around me, the vibrations from wheels being rolled across a bumpy floor. But my mind is distant, dreaming. I see fire. Magic. Blood. Frantic voices cry out, but there’s someone else, promising that I’m stable–just exhausted. My body is lifted up from the uncomfortable mattress and laid down somewhere much more soft and padded. There, finally, as the terrible burning recedes from my skin, I’m able to fall into a quiet, restful sleep. I’m not sure how much time passes before I finally come to. As my eyes plink open slowly, blearily, the first thing I see is Spencer sitting at the edge of my bed, eyes crinkling at the corners. “Good morning, Sleepyhead,” he says softly. I let out a quiet chuckle. “What time is it actually?” I groan, dragging a hand down my face. Suddenly I realize that everythin

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 426: The Antidote

Spencer’s POVAs I push past the double doors and into the hospital’s foyer, I’m struck by the absolute chaos everywhere. There are patients being pushed and shuffled in every direction, and the entire hospital staff looks criminally overworked, worry lines and downcast expressions almost completely hidden behind thick airtight filters. I realize the yellow suits all the staff are wearing match the protective suits Doctor Danbury gave us when we were investigating the Sunclash pack. And if everyone is in plague equipment now…I can only hope we’ll have enough of the antidote to deal with all the infected. That’s an issue for later, though. Right now, my focus is solely on Ivy. “Where’s the queen?” I shout, looking around the foyer frantically. A nurse rushes over towards me hurriedly, gaze darting back and forth. “She–she’s in the quarantine wing, Your Majesty,” the nurse says. “Quite a few patients are, unfortunately. Before I can take you there, I’m going to have to ask you to

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 425: The Final Push

Spencer’s POVAs soon as I pass the threshold of the Lycan Kingdom, I hear a frantic message from Captain Leo echoing in my mind. ‘–and they’re here!’ Comes the call, which has surely been repeating over and over again for ages now, if I’m hearing it as soon as I’m able. Captain Leo’s voice is frantic and desperate. ‘Please, Your Majesty, we have to get this under control. We need you here.’ I grit my teeth and keep my gaze peeled on the road ahead. We’re on our way to the palace now, to deliver the antidote to Ivy and whoever else may need it, but we’re still a matter of minutes away at least. ‘We’re in the kingdom now,’ I assure him. ‘Who’s here?’‘The rest of Elder Jet’s rebels, Your Majesty. It seems they were waiting for you to leave.’ I scowl in displeasure as I watch the scenery continue to blur around us. Of course that was the witch’s final plan, coward that she was. To poison my wife and lure me out to the middle of nowhere knowing how desperate I’d be to cure her… It’s

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 424: Impending Evil

Ivy’s POVAs I lay in the quarantine room, I can feel the growing sickness continuing to spread through my body. Alongside all the typical postpartum symptoms, which would be horrendous enough on their own, the burning is horrible in its unrelentingness. The pain meds feel more like an empty consolation than anything else now. I’m more fatigued than I’ve ever felt before, but I can’t bring myself to fall asleep, because the agony simmering just beneath my skin is impossible to ignore. Am I being punished for something? ‘What am I going to do?’ I ask Venetia hopelessly. There’s no one else to talk to but her. ‘You’ll pull through,’ Venetia assures me, though I can hear the reluctance in her tone. ‘You heard the rumours–Spencer is out there right now, searching desperately for a cure! He loves you. He’s not going to let you die. You matter too much to him.’ I chuckle bitterly. ‘At a certain point, it doesn’t matter how much he doesn’t want me to die. I’ll die or I won’t.’ Venetia

Spencer’s POVAs my claws tear through the ice-cold flesh of the witch’s body, a bloodcurdling scream suddenly pierces the air. With a fierce cry, the witch tries to wrench herself from my grasp, but she only succeeds in dragging her body along my claws, worsening her own injuries. Blood splatters on the ground and onto my paws. It doesn’t feel like blood normally does, though–it’s cold like freshwater and feels oddly slick, almost oily. I pull my lips back over my teeth and growl viciously, searching for the witch’s neck in this darkness. “You beast!” The witch wails like a banshee. I can see her eyes glinting reflectively like a cat’s in the darkness. As we hit the ground, one of her antlers breaks and falls off. “Do you have any idea how powerful I am? You don’t have the faintest whisper of a chance against me, you brute–” I curl my claws inward, deepening the wounds further, and the witch lets out another ragged scream. Suddenly, the darkness in the room all seems to slither t

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 422: Faceoff

Spencer’s POV“Run!” My warning to Alpha Fierro echoes through the darkened office seemingly unheard. As the shadows continue to creep around my field of vision, obscuring everything from view, my heart thuds in my chest. Never before had I been scared of an enemy until encountering the witch. I shift fluidly into my wolf form, powerful arms and legs rippling with muscles, fangs and teeth sharp as daggers. My growl is a low, warning rumble in the base of my throat. Despite my heightened sentences as I continue to peer ahead, ears trained to detect the slightest sense of movement, I still have no idea where the witch is. “Reveal yourself, coward!” I shout, my voice echoing through the room. “You betray your honour by slinking around in the shadows.” The witch’s laugh, low and melodious, fills the air. There’s a haunting coldness to it. “Honour is a werewolf construct,” she says. “And it’s so unlike a proud, foolish warrior to consider it a cowardly action to win a battle with intel
