Spencer's POV

As I make my way to the palace, I can feel the sheer force of my rage crackling in my chest.

My whole life, I’ve known that it’s been my destiny to be the Lycan King. Because of this, my parents spent my whole life pushing me to my limits–throwing me into dangerous situations and forcing me to grow up far too soon all for the sake of being the perfect leader. They made me cold and calculating and emotionless. They cost me a childhood all because of who they wanted me to be.

It took years of preparation for me to get to where I am today, but if there’s one thing I know for certain, it’s that I’m ready to be king.

And Colin most definitely is not.

I don’t think he’s a threat. When it comes down to it, I believe he’ll be easy enough to subdue. But I’m afraid of the damage he can wreak before I can get to him–all the harm he could do before he’s dead.

I need to kill him. Not just to serve my own purposes and reclaim my place as the Lycan Crown Prince, but for the good o

Spencer's POVAs I stare at Colin, awaiting his response to my challenge, I shift into my wolf form. My teeth curl around my lips, and a low growl hums in my throat as I stare at him in anticipation. He looks terrified at the suggestion–he’s not as good as me, and he knows it. A duel to the death would surely end with his corpse laid out at my feet. Even if he was in good shape, he wouldn’t be able to beat me. And judging by the looks of him, even those few brief moments of strangulation dealt him a fair bit of damage. But Colin can’t just ignore my challenge. He has to acknowledge it, one way or another. I can see the guards wandering around the halls. They’re here to bear witness, as few of them as there are. They’re going to spread the news of my challenge one way or another. There are two options for him right now. Either Colin accepts my challenge now and dies honourably, a warrior’s death in the heat of battle, or he rejects my challenge. The entire palace finds out about hi

Spencer's POV“You can’t stop me!” I want the words to sound menacing as I glare my mother down, but no matter my intentions, I find myself sounding far more plaintive than I’d like to. Still, I set my jaw and continue to meet my mother’s gaze, narrowing my eyes at her. “I’ll kill him,” I growl at her. “One way or another, I’ll kill him. Whatever you’re trying to do right now, it won’t last. I’ll get to him eventually.” My words feel like they’re losing their weight, though, as the guards behind me continue to bring Colin to the dungeon. Colin catches my eye, and his expression isn’t one of smugness or gloating–he looks relieved by his escape from certain death. I scowl bitterly. He’s going to be down there now, locked in the very cells where just earlier today we incurred a prison break. We still haven’t had a chance to reevaluate the security system, so who knows what he could possibly get up to–Was this his plan all along? Kill my father, get sent to the dungeon, and then brea

Ivy's POV“He’s somewhere over here.” I look back at Delilah as I speak. As her lips are pursed, and her brow is furrowed. We’re wandering through an unfamiliar wing of the palace–I’ve never seen this area before, but as she looks back and forth, she seems more and more unnerved. It’s like she’s confirmed our destination in her mind, and she’s not all that happy about it. I don’t know where we’re going, but I can feel the strength of the mate bond Spencer and I share. It stretches between us like a rubber band. The farther apart we are, the more we yearn to snap back into one another the way we’re always supposed to be. “Are you sure about that?” Delilah asks me tentatively. She takes another look around the halls. “Why would Spencer be near Colin’s room? He hates–” Suddenly, Delilah’s face flushes, and she looks away. “Um. Never mind.” I raise an incredulous eyebrow at her. “Colin’s room is near here?” I repeat, glancing back and forth. We’re certainly in a wing of the palace mo

Spencer's POVBefore I can respond to Ivy’s question, my mother’s voice rings sharply through the air. “Don’t tell her anything!” She snaps. Ivy frowns, tilting her head in confusion. I can almost feel the gears in her mind whirring. Ivy is a smart girl–she’s certainly figured out by now that something unusual has happened in the palace. And I can tell that, after everything she’s been through, she has absolutely no interest in being kept out of the loop. I want to tell her what happened, for her own safety. My father was killed within these very walls–any member of the Lycan Royal Family, or anyone with proximity to us, could be the next target. “Go away, Mother,” I snap at her, rolling my eyes. “You’ve done enough damage here.”My mother huffs. “I’m trying to protect you, and this family! Which she certainly isn’t a part of.” I can see the irritation flashing in Ivy’s eyes, but she bites her tongue for now. “I’ll deal with this myself,” I say to my mother, dragging a hand down

Ivy's POVI can hardly believe I’m holding Spencer’s hand. It’s such a small thing to get emotional about–I’m carrying his child, for Moon Goddess’s sake. And yet, as our fingers remain twined together, I can feel my heart beginning to race ever so slightly. We’re holding hands. Things might be a mess between us right now, and I have no idea what our future is going to look like. But we’re holding hands. “You shouldn’t come with me, Ivy,” Spencer says softly. His gaze is still fixed on Delilah up ahead, but I can tell that I’m the one with his attention. “I don’t know what I’d be getting you mixed up in, and–I mean, the Lycan King is dead. The most powerful man in the kingdom. If he could be killed…” Spencer trails off, but I can hear the unspoken words lingering on the tip of his tongue. I could be killed, too. Me and his unborn child–both of us, gone in one fell swoop. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but my mind starts to whir. As upsetting as the Lycan King’s death was, ne

Ivy's POVOnce Delilah makes her way into the dungeon, Spencer and I have to wait several minutes in order to follow her without her noticing. “What do you think is happening between Delilah and Colin?” I ask. “I don’t know,” Spencer admits, shifting back and forth. “I… I heard them talking, awhile back. I think Colin was trying to talk her into starting an affair, but that’s just how he always is, I guess, trying to take away anything that belongs to me–” Suddenly, remembering the context of his words, Spencer realizes the impact of what he’s just said/. His piercing, endless gaze settles on me, waiting for my reaction. I cross my arms over my chest and raise an eyebrow at Spencer. I know what he’s referring to–the way Colin flirted with me back when Spencer and I were together. Sylvia filled me in on Colin’s behaviours and patterns. I know that Colin was just trying to rile Spencer up. “I don’t belong to you,” I tell Spencer. “And I never have. But you think Colin has been tryi

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 310: Delilah’s Secret

Ivy's POV“Why did you come?” In every interaction I’ve had with Prince Colin before, he’s carried himself with a very distinctive demeanour. There’s a forced swagger he tries to bring into everything he does, although he’s trying to paint himself as the picture of nonchalance. A memory strikes me all at once–Erick had a younger brother, I recall, and as the second son, he always had something to prove. Colin’s long messy hair and untucked shirt, the gleam in his eyes, his arrogant flirtation with me… it’s all an act. He’s second best, and he knows it, and he’s spent his whole life trying to convince everyone that it’s not real. But as Colin looks at Delilah, he approaches her slowly, walking towards the end of the cell until the two are standing face to face through the bars. Delilah’s hands are wrapped around the wrought iron that separates them. Colin raises his hands so they’re just above hers, but he doesn’t touch her at all. For once, there’s nothing disingenuous about him.

Ivy's POVThe moment I hear the words pass Delilah’s lips, my heart begins to race. If Delilah really does have feelings for Colin–if she truly mean everything she’s saying right now, if this isn’t just some sort of scheme or deception on her part, if marriage is even something on both of their minds–That could mean Delilah doesn’t really love him. That could mean Spencer doesn’t really love her. Maybe there’s hope for us yet. My heart begins to race as my mind whirls with all the newfound possibilities. With Spencer and Delilah’s wedding set for the Summer Equinox, a date only days away now, I’d all but figure I’d lost Spencer for good. But maybe that’s not the case anymore. We could be together again. We could make it work. We could raise our child, our children, together. It’s possible. It’s really possible. Taking note of my sudden racing heart and quickening breath, Spencer glances over at me. “Are you alright?” He asks, raising an eyebrow. My face burns. I can’t tell h

Spencer’s POV“Run!” My warning to Alpha Fierro echoes through the darkened office seemingly unheard. As the shadows continue to creep around my field of vision, obscuring everything from view, my heart thuds in my chest. Never before had I been scared of an enemy until encountering the witch. I shift fluidly into my wolf form, powerful arms and legs rippling with muscles, fangs and teeth sharp as daggers. My growl is a low, warning rumble in the base of my throat. Despite my heightened sentences as I continue to peer ahead, ears trained to detect the slightest sense of movement, I still have no idea where the witch is. “Reveal yourself, coward!” I shout, my voice echoing through the room. “You betray your honour by slinking around in the shadows.” The witch’s laugh, low and melodious, fills the air. There’s a haunting coldness to it. “Honour is a werewolf construct,” she says. “And it’s so unlike a proud, foolish warrior to consider it a cowardly action to win a battle with intel

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 421: On The Brink

Ivy’s POVThe longer I stay in the hospital bed, the more I can feel myself beginning to crumble. The pain is ceaseless in its intensity, great waves of agony that crash over me without letting up for even a second. I can’t scream, can’t cry, can’t move. I’ve given up on trying to call in any of the nurses when the flareups get too bad–all they’ll do is look at me sadly, scared of doing anything to make me worse, scared of simply standing by and watching the queen die. There’s an IV flowing an endless stream of pain medication into my veins, which is helping somewhat, but it’s not enough. All I can do is feel this. Until it kills me, I suppose. I have no idea where Spencer is–after he rushed out of my room unexpectedly like that, he never came back. I’ve heard some whispers floating around the hospital about a great escapade, about the looming creep of a plague sweeping through the kingdom. If it really is a plague, I hope more than anything that Tala didn’t catch it from me. If

Spencer’s POV“Alpha Fierro, I need you to focus up.” The words are harsh as they leave my mouth, but I’m not trying to be malicious, although it’s true that things desperately need to get moving. The longer I spend in the Sunclash pack, the more on edge I feel. Every wall in sight feels like it’s closing in on me, and I can feel the sickness permeating the air. There’s a heaviness to this place now, an endless sense of dread. I have a feeling that this ground will carry the weight of all its deaths for a long, long time. “Scour the office for anything that seems out of place,” I say. “If your Beta was in charge of the pack in your absence, it’s likely that he was the one putting any preventative measures into place. He may have tried to find a cure–hopefully there are signs somewhere around here.” I look down at the man’s corpse, the papers clutched in his fist and the expression of profound horror on his face. “I read his reports. He seems to have been a confident, driven man. I’

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 419: Haunted

Spencer’s POV‘I think a considerable number of people managed to leave, contaminated or not.’ The longer Beta Wilson’s words echo through my mind, the more I begin to realize the scale of the potential disaster we might have on our hands. Where would any contaminated werewolves go? To the surrounding packs, most likely, and from there, the plague could spread from pack to pack to pack endlessly, ultimately becoming a worldwide pandemic…I whirl around to look at Alpha Fierro. “What was your relationship with other packs like?” I ask him urgently. “If any of your pack members were to turn up there looking for help, would they receive it?” “Probably, yeah,” Alpha Fierro says. “We tended to keep things as peaceful as possible. Unless there was very clearly something wrong going on, no one would have any reason to turn any of our members away.” I curse silently under my breath. “Keep heading towards the pack house,” I tell Alpha Fierro, already starting to walk away from him and back

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 418: Ghost Town

Spencer’s POVMost of my skin has already been covered by my day clothes, but in the few places I’m not, I can feel the hazmat suit’s crinkly plastic resting against me uncomfortably. I shudder as the plastic continues to shift. It clings uncomfortably to my skin and is far from stealthy, causing a loud rumpling sound to ring out with every step. I’d hoped that we could carry out this surveillance with at least the slightest bit of stealth and decorum, but as the entire haphazard team of us begins to make our way into the Sunclash pack, it becomes more and more evident that that’s just not going to happen. Through the suit’s bulbous plastic dome, I make eye contact with Doctor Danbury, clearly far from amused. She purses her lips, and I can see my own frustration mirrored on her face as we continue to lug equipment around. “I know,” she says, coming up to walk beside me. “Believe me, I hate the suits too. Easily one of my least favourite parts of this job. But whatever wiped this p

Spencer’s POVAs we all sit in the back of a sleek, high-speed limo, I can’t help but feel thick tendrils of dread curling throughout my stomach. Every second I spend away from Ivy feels like I could be missing her final moments, and the fear over what could happen to her is making me sick. “The hazmat suits will be uncomfortable,” Doctor Danbury warns, holding up a hideous yellow baggy bodysuit. The plastic crinkles under her touch. “And the tanks on the back are going to poke weirdly. It’s no fun to wear, I know. But we still don’t quite know the extent of the toxicity of the environment we’re about to enter, so right now, safety is of the utmost importance. It’s possible that we’ll be able to take the suits off once I’ve run a couple tests and deemed the area safe, but I have no idea yet.” “Whatever it is, it seems to be highly contagious,” Alpha Fierro says somberly. Doctor Danbury nods. “The last thing we want to do is bring an uncontained plague back to the Lycan Kingdom, so

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 416: Preventative Measures

Spencer’s POVJust as Beta Wilson and Alpha Fierro make their way out of my office, I see Alpha Leo slip through the doorway. He looks much better than he did the last time I saw him–there are still the occasional cuts and bruises marring his skin, a couple ridged scars in the process of forming, but Alpha Leo seems to be walking without much pain. His posture is straight and his gaze is keen. He looks at me tentatively as he approaches my desk, and I can tell he’s just the slightest bit on edge. “Your Highness,” he says uncertainly. “Alpha Leo,” I reply. “Um, what can I do for you?” Alpha Leo asks nervously. I shuffle a stack of papers on the desk together. “As I’m sure you know, we’ve suffered considerable gaps in our staff,” I begin. “Specifically in our military and guard positions. One of the most notable absences is Captain McAndrews, as I’m sure you remember quite well.” Alpha Leo blanches. “Right,” he mutters. “The work you did during Elder Jet’s invasion was exceptiona

Spencer’s POV“The Lycan Kingdom will come to your aid at once.” Clearly, the ease with which I offer my support comes as something of a shock to Alpha Fierro. His eyes widen, and his face breaks into an expression of gratitude. His posture already seems straighter, like a great weight has been lifted from his shoulders. “Really?” Alpha Fierro breathes out. “Thank you, Your Majesty. Truly, I’d nearly given up hope on receiving any sort of aid at all–I’d almost started believing the rumours…” My eyes narrow. “The rumours?” I repeat coldly.” Alpha Fierro blanches. “Well, I–of course, I never really believed them. But I’m sure it hasn’t escaped your vast reach of influence that some werewolves have been saying things about the Lycan Royal Family that have been rather… out of line. Ever since Elder Jet and his rebellion, things have been different. But I–that’s not important! What I’m trying to say to you right now is thank you, Your Majesty. From the bottom of my heart.” I remain si

  • Rescuing His Enslaved Luna Queen   Chapter 414: Symptoms

Spencer’s POV“Tell me everything you know about this plague.” The command is sharp and electric, crackling with urgency. At Alpha Fierro’s mention of this strange plague taking lives–not to mention its unfortunate coinciding with the Blood Moon–I can’t help but feel nauseous thinking about what could happen to Ivy. There’s been no confirmation that she’s sick with any sort of plague, of course, and there haven’t been any reported cases of illness from those who have come into contact with her so far. But all of that could change at any given moment, and when it comes to Ivy’s life–or the lives of anyone in my kingdom, for that matter–I have no intention of taking it lightly. Alpha Fierro hesitates for a moment. “I’ve been having my Beta send me reports tracking the symptoms he’s seen from some of the infected pack members we’ve got under observation,” he says. “But my Beta is–well.” He stops speaking abruptly, gaze momentarily taken over by sadness. “He’s deteriorating rapidly, to
