AMERY'S POV
The man I slept with a few days ago, the one who made me scream in utmost ecstasy, the one I couldn’t get out of my head despite my situation, was standing in front of me, telling me he’s my brother-in-law.
The room began to spin again, can today get any better?
“Why did you flee before I woke up the other day” Nathan asked looking enraged with his eyes furrowing with concern, earnestly looking for answers.
Still holding onto my wrist, he further asked. “I thought we had such a great time. Was the sex not good enough? Didn’t I fuck you so well? Why did you leave? His tone deepened with his words being laced with quavering authority.
“Please it’s enough, stop with the questions. This isn’t the best place and time to have this conversation. Can’t you see I look sick and unwell? Please have some empathy and help me to the living room” I responded, sounding breathless with my voice trembling in weakness.
Looking deep into my eyes with a sense of compassion and curiosity, he retorted. “Alright, that’s fine”.
I started to have flashbacks of what went down the other night with Nathan while he walked me down the hallway heading towards the living room where the family had gathered and were wondering what held me back for so long in the rest room.
The intense strokes sending a rush down my spine, the passionate kiss that stirred a desire deep within me. I felt a flutter in my chest as I remembered the way he made me feel.
Never in my life would I have thought I would come across Mr. Adonis again after our last encounter, talk more of him being my brother-in-law. Oh what mess have I gotten myself into? I asked myself lost in deep thoughts.
“What is keeping Amery in the restroom for so long?, is everything okay with her? ” Diana my mother-in-law to be inquired with so much concern with her face etched with worry.
“Here she comes” Christina muttered wondering who the man that walked in with her was. “I haven’t seen this face before, is that Nathan?” She said to herself.
“Oh my son is back, my son is back” Diana exclaimed with tears forming in her eyes, her face beaming with so much excitement as she walks hurriedly towards Nathan to give him a hug.
Nathan seemed to not be moved by the reunion as his reaction was underwhelming as he gave his mother a half-hearted, side hug.
“Welcome my son” Diana whispered.
“What happened to you Amery?, are you okay? Diana enquired looking so shocked and confused. “I met her in the hallway lying helplessly on the floor. Please can she have a seat?” Nathan snapped, signaling to the maid.
“Oh my Goodness Amery!!” Christina simpered, her voice laden with insincere sympathy. “I’m so sorry Love”.
“Oh this woman not again please! Can she just stop with the pretentious act? Why can’t anyone see through her?”. I muttered under my breath, my face twisted with disgust.
“Good day everyone” Nathan acknowledged the presence of everyone even if he seemed uninterested and looked like he didn’t want to be there.
Nathan’s greeting was met with enthusiastic responses from Jane and Christina.
Nathan looked across the room, his eyes meeting Levin’s and his Father’s. His face flashed with fury and hatred as he remembered his last encounter with them 7 years ago.
How he forcefully had to leave the house and the father’s company to build something for himself which later turned out to be even bigger than his father’s.
Levin on the other hand seemed unbothered and dismissive at the presence of Nathan his brother as he had his father’s company to himself and he was no longer in his way to being the heir.
As the family’s conversation lingered around Amery’s health and how she needs urgent bed rest as she hadn’t recovered fully from the accident.
Nathan cautiously detached himself from the conversation. He gently takes my arm, drawing me closer.
So close that I caught the scent of his cologne. The fragrance of his cologne engulfed me stirring memories from our last meeting. His eyes bore into mine with a stern look and warning glint.
“Amery, listen carefully” Nathan whispered intensely, his voice brushing her ears. “Be very careful around my brother, he’s not what he seems”.
My eyes widened in shock as it met with Nathan’s grave gaze.
“Why is Nathan warning me about his brother? What exactly has Levin done in the past to warrant this warning? I silently wondered.
As Nathan wanted to further speak, he gets interrupted by his brother. Levin had noticed the sudden closeness between Amery and Nathan. He suddenly feels threatened.
“This idiot is back, with his manipulative tactics. He thinks he can steal what’s mine”. Levin brimmed to himself, his mind burning with disdain and anger.
“Nathan I need to speak to you urgently” Levin snarled, his voice cold and menacing.
As Nathan stands up to leave the living room following Levin, he couldn’t help but wonder what he wanted to discuss with him.
Diana turned to Amery with a worried glance, and urged, “Please you need to get some rest now. Kindly show her to her room”. She beckoned on the maid.
As Levin led Nathan up the spiral staircase, the echoes of the conversation downstairs grew fainter. They reached a small, intimate balcony concealed at the upper floor.
“What just happened downstairs? Why the sudden closeness with Amery? I know what you’re scheming to do. Are you trying to sabotage my engagement with Amery?” Levin’s eyes narrowed, his voice laced with indictment.
Nathan’s eyes slitted, with a calm look. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Is this why you called me out here?” He snapped.
Levin smirked, moving closer to Nathan with his eyes flashing with malice. “Don’t you dare play dumb with me Nathan. I know you’re attracted to Amery”.
“Oh please, enough with the interrogations. I have spoken my truth. Make do with it however you please. I’m not interested in Amery”. Nathan scoffed, walking away.
“We will see about that Nathan!” Levin shouted back, curling his lips with resentment and scorn.
Amery's POVMy eyes blazed with anger as I watched my mother shed fake tears as she said her eulogy during my father's funeral.I tried to shut out her words, but they pierced through my soul like a dagger. "..If I'm feeling this sad, God knows how much pain our daughter will be in. After all, you raised her while I went away to get a better life for us.."Oh God, this bitch!I had to leave before I did something crazy. I had to get out of there, away from my mother's hypocrisy and lies.As I opened the entrance door of my father's house, I couldn't help but break into tears.
