I helped the person who first planted hate in my heart. It was ironic how I was able to look back on her earlier and assist her until we both got in the car.

I drove to the unit. It was a quiet trip to my unit with my mother, who opened the gate of hell for me. Until we got into the unit, I wasn't talking to her but took care of her in silence.

“I never thought that everything would come to this, Veronne. I was treated nicely by those people, but when they got everything from me, they just treated me like shit that they shouldn't be seeing the rest of their lives.”

I didn't ask her about the worst decision she ever made, but she was telling me everything. I don't even know if she was helping me to cure the wound she carved in my heart or if she was making it even tougher to be cured.
