Chapter 2: Lonely dream

The world around him is spinning and spinning and spinning. His head gets dizzy with all the crying. So thin because of dehydration and lack of food.

Sky can be considered as skin and bones now; his appearance is too far from his fresh and healthy self from five years ago.

That day when Kai died was the day he also died. He is now a living dead waiting for heaven to take away his life. He's been praying for death to come to him so he will be with Kai in the afterlife but...

"Baby, ke- keep living. Fi- find some-someone to lo- love you o- okay?"

How can he kill himself when Kai's last word is for him to live and find someone to love? He can only wait for Grim Reaper to appear to fulfill Kai's wishes.

Someone to love? Will he ever love someone else when all his heart belongs to Kai? When his world is all about Kai? When his heart died along with Kai's.

"Come live with me son, please?" his mother speaks in a gentle pleading tone.

After a year of Kai's death, Sky did not leave their house. He resigned from his job and isolated himself from the world.

His mother visits him every day without fail, then it turns to every week, to every month. The mother's heart can't bear to see his son living this way. She tried to talk to him and to seek counseling or to leave the house or to travel to forget but Sky did not even dare to listen to her. Not even a glance or a word to her mother.

Mourning is one thing and keeping himself alive is another. He doesn't know how to cook; it was Kai who did everything from cooking to washing dishes to washing clothes and cleaning the house. Sky is considered the lucky prince who found the best husband in the world.

He tried to make the dish that Kai was cooking before, the chicken soup, the hot pot that they both love so much but less spicy compared to usual, the fried chicken, and the stir fry bullfrog dish which he doesn't remember the taste anymore.

He's been trying to copy the taste but he can't. He's so pissed at himself, why did he not learn it before? why did he waste so much time working than spending his time with Kai?

If he only knew what was going to happen, if he only knew that they will spend short years with each other then he could have given it all to Kai. Sadly, no one knows about the future. No one knows the path that heaven prepared for them.

Sky's family reach out to him. They tried to convince him, tried to bring him to the doctor but it was all in vain. Sky is like a walking corpse, with no feelings at all.

Every time they brought him out, he will always say, "I need to go back now, Kai is waiting. I should not let Kai wait" or "My husband is making lunch for me; I need to hurry home."

His family could only cry in silence, suffer in silence, and care for him in silence.

They tried until they gave up forcing him, to leave everything to fate. Hoping that a day will come when Sky himself decides to cure himself of the memory of Kai. Hoping that things will not come to it irreparable state.

Kring! Kring!

"Hello?" a soft deep voice speaks in the other line.

"Is this Dr. Kole?" Sky asks softly while sniffing due to crying.

"Speaking, what can I help you with?" Dr. Kole inquired.

It was eleven in the evening when Sky called yet the person on the other line speaks as if it was only eight in the morning. No traces of annoyance or exasperation just a gentle voice of a person who is willing to listen to anything.

"I need help. Please, help me. Help me forget him." Sky pours out all his emotion and cried loudly.

Dr. Kole listens to his crying, waiting for the person to calm himself a little before speaking.

"Can you manage to come to me tomorrow?" Dr. Kole asks with a hint of concern.

"Doctor, I'm afraid Kai will... can you... can you come instead?" Sky pleaded shyly.

No sound is heard from the other line. Sky panics and blurts, "Ah, if it's too much then don't bother Doctor. I will... I will..."

Sky stops at his words when the other line cuts him, "Apologies. I was looking for a pen and paper. Can you tell me your name and address? I will visit you tomorrow."

His voice is so deep yet soft and patient. You can imagine him smiling by just listening to him talking.

"Are you sure Doctor? Then... then I will tell Kai to prepare food." Sky happily responded.

"Oh! Doctor Kole, I'm so rude. Please call me Sky and here's my full address."

This is the first lengthy talk of Sky after ten years. This is not a family, not a friend, and definitely not Kai. Doctor Gong is a total stranger but the doctor's voice gives him a feeling of comfort, safety, and assurance.

"See you tomorrow, Little Sky." Doctor Gong sweetly bid goodbye.

Little Sky? The only person who calls him Little Sky is his beloved husband.

He remembers during his graduation, Kai took him to the back of their building with a blindfold on, they were already in a relationship back then. Nobody from their team knew about it.

"What are you planning Kai? I don't like surprises." Sky said in slight annoyance.

"Chill! my prince. You will love this." Kai responded with confidence.

They slowly walk, Sky was holding Kai's arms, murmuring about how petty Kai's trick is.

Murmuring outside yet his heart was beating fast, so much that if this continues, he might faint from this excitement.

"We're here!" Kai exclaimed.

"Can I take this blindfold now?" Sky anxiously asks.

Kai took a deep breath and answered, "Yes."

Sky slowly untangled the piece of cloth that has been covering his eyes. When he opened his blurry eyes, he saw glittering lights and rose petals on the ground. In the middle was a table with three candles and a bouquet of champagne roses.

His heart beats twice as fast as it beats a moment ago. He does not want to assume but the situation tells him that... inch by inch, he turns to face Kai.

When he turns, he saw Kai on his knees, holding a simple silver ring, eyes looking straight at him.

"Little Sky, my prince, my everything. I know this is sudden but I really, really want to marry you. Will you accept me as your husband? Please?"

Sky knew that Kai might have prepared a long heartfelt message but all of those were lost in the midst of nervousness and anticipation.

"What kind of proposal is that?" Sky rolls his eyes in disbelief.

He wasn't expecting a marriage proposal on his graduation day and he wasn't expecting that this man did not make any effort to give a romantic speech but of course, he knew in his heart the effort in putting all this just for him.

"You don't want to marry me?" Kai flashed a sad puppy face.

"Do I have a choice?" He raised his left brow and extended his left hand to Kai.

"Put the ring on my finger, then stand up and kiss me! Is this answer enough?"

He needs to be in character, he's so happy but he needs to maintain his bitchy attitude.

Reminiscing on the past, Sky gradually falls into a deep sleep.

This is the first time Sky sleeps well. Something in that Doctor's voice calms his wounded heart. It feels so familiar yet strange. It must be because he is a doctor and used a soothing deep voice when talking to him.He sleeps until seven in the morning, only waking up when a small amount of sunlight shines straight into his eyes. Opening his eyes, a brightly smiling Kai appeared in front of him. Lying sideways, supporting his head with his right hand."Why don't you sleep more?" Kai asks.Sky smiled drowsily and let out a small groan, "Someone is coming baby. Can you prepare some food?"This kind of talk had been made between them in the very same bed before. When he informed Kai of his mother’s visiting them."Who's coming baby, is it Mama?" curiosity is written all over his face."No, baby. It's Dr. Kole." Sky answered in a languid voice."Baby, ca-" Kai did not finish his line when his illusion vanished in the air.Knock! Knock!Hearing the knock, Sky gets up from the bed, slight

As a Psychologist, Kole is well-versed in the actions and reactions of his patients. He is well accustomed to the ways of dealing with an emotionally broken-hearted person.Psychologists and psychiatrists are two different things. The psychiatrist provides medication but the psychologist provides psychotherapy or talk therapy. A sounding board for the people who experience the lowest point in their life. With Sky, the first thing that comes to mind is that this person badly needs someone to pester him and listen to him. At least someone who is sincerely willing to listen and not someone who will thwack him of how pathetic he is. The first step for Sky is to slowly open his heart and accept proper consultation.Seeing the wedding photo, the gloomy and soiled house, and the thin and dejected appearance of Sky, it's enough for him to conclude that Sky's husband left the mortal world.Testing the water, he uttered the forbidden question, "Sky, how did he die?"Sky, who is pouring the hot

Kole went directly to his office, upon arriving he was greeted by his lady assistant estimated to be in her late twenties. There was only three staff in his office, he likes to keep his circle small especially since all of the patient's cases were confidential. "Hey! you're twenty minutes late today. That's rare." his lady assistant commented. Kole never did once come late to the office. It was his golden rule A TRUE AND COMPASSIONATE PERSON WAKES UP EARLY WITH THE WILL TO ALLEVIATE PEOPLE'S SUFFERING. He smiled at his assistant and responded jokingly, "Spare this old man a time to date." "Date? who is the lucky one?" Yara asks with bulging eyes, she looked at Kole with so many questions in her head. Since when did Dr. Kole have an interest to date? The doctor who was devoting his life to healing people, who do not have any interest in blind dates and night out's, friends that can be counted on fingers was saying that he's been on a date? What sorcery was this? She must know the

Upon living the office, he went straight to his favorite restaurant to order easily digestible food. Sky had been eating bread for so long and giving him hard-to-digest food will only upset his stomach. It took him thirty minutes to get his takeout. Kole was a regular so calling in advance for his order was just one of his many perks. After receiving his order, he went back to his car which was parked outside the restaurant. Starting the engine, he merrily and quickly drives to get to Sky's house. It was a twenty-minute ride from the restaurant. There were few cars on the road at nighttime, they were in a rural area so houses and establishments were usually near each other. With both hands full of food bags, he marches towards Sky's door. Knock! Knock! Two knocks, no answer. "Sky?" Still no answer. "Sky? Are you awake?" worry starts to creep into his heart. "Sky!" Was he not at home? Impossible. He wanted to follow Kai's wishes, he wanted to try living by getting help but how? Every time he sees Kole, he reminded him of Kai, that perfect visage."Doctor, tell me... can you cure me?" Sky's tears streamed down his face blurring the image of the man in front of him.He clasped Kole's hand with both his cold and bone-skin hands. He held on to it tightly and gradually brought it to his now drenched cheeks, caressing his face as if the person in front of him was his lover."Tell me that you can cure me, I'm in too much pain. I lived in an illusion of my husband, I can see and talk to him as if he is here. As if my husband... as if my husband is beside me." He continued telling everything to Kole. Everything that he closely kept in his heart for the past long years.Kole watched him with so much care, this man, who had a beautiful heart and soul was grieving over a deceased beloved. For now, he could only hope that one day Sky will get better and continue to live his life so he could live his life too.Kole closed the door of the house double checking if it was safely locked before leaving. He was thinking of what to cook for breakfast that will suit Sky's taste and will not trigger his memory of Kai."Kole?" Just when he got out a voice in her fifties called out.Kole froze in place. That voice was too familiar, his heart pounded so fast and his throat moved up and down sending tense feelings to his stomach. “Did… did we lose them?” Sky asks the person heavily panting beside him. They have been running for so long.“I don’t know… let’s find somewhere to hide first,” answered the person. His face was blurry and his whole body was drenched with sweat. Both of them ran towards the thick bush to hide their slim figures. It was around six in the evening and they were cornered in a forest away from the city. The two boys were nervous and helpless. They had been running for nearly two hours now. They barely escaped from the black van that took them in front of their school if not for the tactics used by the boys.“Sky, even if you are feverish, we have to leave here alive, okay?” the boy said in a commanding tone with no room to debate. It was around eight in the morning when Kole arrived at Sky's house. Sleeping was not his best friend; he was always forcibly woken up by his mind. "Sky, I brought you breakfast." He had his unabashed smile hanging on his face while waving the wrapped food in his hand. "Doctor, I... I already had my breakfast." Scratching his head lightly, Sky answered him honestly. "Oh?" For the past few days, he noticed that Sky was not fond of eating breakfast, "then, I have an idea. This food should not go to waste." Kole said in high spirits. He can take advantage of this situation to slowly open Sky's closed heart and the food should not go to waste, last night was enough. "Can I come in?" asked Kole cheerily. Kole has been standing outside the whole time. The first time he visited, he let himself in. This time he wanted Sky to invite him in or to allow him to come in. This will help him assimilate if Sky was ready to accept people in his safe zone. Kole caught the uneasiness lurking in Sky'

Time pass by quickly and it was already their ten years wedding anniversary. Kole had been thinking of a better anniversary gift this time, something that could topple the other gifts that he had given his husband. He spent the entire month thinking about it but none crossed his mind. He was roaming around the mall, entering all stores until he bumped into a familiar face, "Kai?!" his twin brother. "Oh. What are you doing here?" said Kai without much surprise. "Looking for a gift," he replied. Kole was already comfortable mentioning Sky whenever he was with Kai. His brother had stopped his therapy session with him five years ago when the General miraculously accepts his pursuit. From then on, Kai was well behaved than ever. "What a coincidence, me too. It's my honey's birthday next week," In truth, Kai also spent a lot of time thinking of what gift to give. At the same time, he was planning to propose to his General on his birthday. "Why not buy a ring if you want to propose?

It took Kai a week to recover and Erviz stayed with him all these days without neglecting his duty. It could be said that he was a stay-in Nanny for Kai, a friend, a confidant, and someone Kai persistently flirts with. Erviz was so used to it that it seems like a lullaby to him. Five years passed and Kai was still chasing Erviz, never getting a chance to bed the man. Up to this day, Erviz listened to Kai whenever the other needed it. Kai consistently pursues him, giving him flowers, and gifts and picking him up at work. If General Erviz Mason was feared by all in the department before now, nobody even dared to talk behind his back. They were more afraid of Kai's deathly gaze than the General's quick fist! "Yo! Honey," it was already midnight but Kai still picks up Erviz in his work not minding his own fatigue. "Hungry? I bought you a congee," inside the car was an insulated box where the said congee was kept to stay warm. "En," he responded. He was exhausted from today's meeting.

Slowly, he lifted Kai's arm and slip out making the man groan, "Shh, sleep." He went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Today, he needed to go to the base to report but what will he report? That he had slept in the same bed with the enemy? He toasted some bread, fry an egg and reheat the coffee that was left unattended. Thirty minutes later, Kai came out of the room with drowsy eyes and like a magnet, sticking close to Erviz landing a kiss on his lips, "Morning, wifey." His body slumped on the General with his hands on the waist. "For the nth time, I'm not your wife," he said while busy preparing the food on the table. "En, understood... wifey." They had breakfast and Erviz had taken a bath after some struggle to keep Kai outside the bathroom. When he came out, Kai was nowhere to be found except for a simple note l

He lost hope to convince Kai that he was not gay, that he was not into men and will never have sex with men. But the stubborn man was pestering him and kissing him as he pleases. He had thought of ways to attack Kai but he knew he will be killed in the end with how many men were hiding outside. Yes. Hiding. It will be inconvenient for them to surround the house visible to all the neighbors so the men were dispersed in the shadow. "God! You're so... sigh, Kai, what is it that you really want?" Kai stopped what he was doing and for a minute there was silence between them. He felt the hidden emotion in Kai's silence, he might be wrong but he saw sadness in those eyes, fear, and hatred. Why was he sad? Why was he afraid? Who does he hate? These were questions that he wanted to ask but felt that it was not right after all. He was an outsider and was an enemy even. It was already ten minutes since the cars stopped in the middle of the road. All men had their heads bowed down for the same amount of time waiting for Erviz to say that he will reconsider. Whoever their boss has a liking to, they consider them instant family. If the boss said he will kill himself because the lady boss does not want to have sex with him then it was solid proof that their boss was head over heels for Erviz. Inside the car was silent with Kai still holding him by the waist. Erviz had no plan to retaliate, after all, this is the yakuza surrounding him. Dying because of a sex-deprived yakuza boss was something he wanted to avoid. "... can't you tell your men to stop bowing?" he whispered making sure only Kai heard it. Kai responded with a bite on his forefinger and licked it after, "I can't. I'm using them to pressure you," he admitted shamelessly. It was not even an hour passed that Erviz punched him for the kiss and now he was asking for sex. Erviz scowled hearing what he said, "Are you pent up? Is sex all you have in that mind of yours?"But Kai answered him through his action. His hand slipped down until it reaches the slit and went to touch his butt. His lips kissed Erviz's neck leaving marks in each part his lips landed. "Have sex with me, hmm? You want me to beg you, sexy?"It was only with Erviz that he begged, it was his way of chasing that warmth that he felt and was feeling now. He was aware of his action; he was aware of his stupid move. He was not acting like a leader of the group right now but as Kai himself. Kai had this fear in his heart for the first time again after losing his brother and Sky, he was afraid that if he let go... he will never feel this warmth again. "Sexy, stay with me." The hand that reaches in between the cheeks of Erviz's butt was suddenly pinched to stop, "I'm not a whore," he said. "I'

It was not a minute after the punch that another thunder clapped. Along with the sound was the simultaneous raising of guns toward Erviz. Hurting the head of the group was equivalent to hurting all the members of the group, insulting them, and announcing war with them. The members' priority was to keep their heads safe and, in this case, it was Kai. Kai's lips bleed on the same side where Erviz's lips were wounded. The strong punch was not enough to move Kai's body but it did move his face to turn sideward. "Dare to hurt me? Brave, aren't we?!" His eyes were glaring red. His tongue sticks out to lick the blood that drips from his swollen lips and with a step forward he held Erviz's jaw clenching it hard but there was no panic or fear in the eyes of the other man. Instead, he stared back as if taunting the glaring Kai like he was hoping for some action. "Do you know what will happen to you if I let those men click the trigger?" He was sending a threat that was neither a threat. It

Young people and other party people were out wearing their best outfits for the night. "Where are we going?" asked Erviz as he fixed his messy hair. Kai was sitting with him at the back of the car, his legs crossed over each other looking outside as if lost in thoughts. For a second there was complete silence. Erviz stopped brushing his hair and looked at Kai with questioning eyes. "Hey!" it was neither a shout nor a loud voice. It was neutral, so neutral that you can sense that the person speaking was not nervous at all. "... you're not planning to abduct me, right?" Kai's eyes were still fixed outside but this time he answered, "Calm down. I don't plan on killing someone tonight.""Oh. Then thanks." he blurted out and return to fixing his hair. Tonight, he wanted to be with his brother again. Lately, he had been feeling a little empty inside. It has been two years since he had not talked to his brother and just three months ago, his adoptive father, who had died of old age, left him hundreds of people he needed to lead. It was already known inside the group that Kai will be the next in line, the child honed and treated as a real son by their deceased boss. No one objected, everyone saw how Kai was capable of leading the group. Even the business was prospering when he handled it. But each one also knew how lifeless their leader was. Looking at the side mirror, Kai saw Kole and Sky embracing each other. He had once embraced Sky; he had once felt that warmth but longing for it now was not something he deserved. He understood that it was his fault and because of a wrong decision pushed by his own demon. "Go to the club," he said in passing. Anywhere noisy was better than being alone in a big house.
