James opened his eyes slowly and was met with a brightness that emitted from an open curtain. He closed his eyes again, unable to bear the sun's rays.

"Oh!" He gasped, covering his face. "Why is everything so bright?"

He swallowed a thick lump down his throat, feeling dehydrated. His hand lowered to his neck, and he rubbed his throat irritatedly.

Opening his eyes again, his gaze met the ceiling. He blinked rapidly at it, then noticed a movement beside him.

He looked at his side and was stunned to see Betty. He flinched, his eyes wide with shock.

"What the hell?" He gasped, hurriedly sitting up. "What is she doing here?"

His fingers went into his hair as he tried to recall how she got into his bed. At first, he couldn't remember anything, but eventually, he remembered having a drink with her and heading upstairs.

"What happened after that?" He whispered to himself, his mind filled with confusion.

Unfortunately, he couldn't remember anything after that. It felt like his mind had gone b

Betty was seated on the toilet seat with a smile on her lips. She could hear James groaning inside the room, and she was so pleased."Things worked out fine," She grinned, lowering her gaze to her thighs. She parted them slowly, revealing the cut on the side of her right thigh. She had woken last night, gone to the kitchen, taken a knife, and cut her thigh. She wanted to seal her scheme, so acting like a virgin would be the deal breaker. Her actions were so disturbing, and the fact that she had the same smile on her lips while cutting herself, made things even more uncomfortable."I'm so smart," She complimented herself, her smile widening."Betty," She heard her name and faked a cry."Betty, I'm sorry," James apologized, standing outside the bathroom door. "I didn't mean to hurt you last night,""Go away," She cried out, then smiled again. "Your apology won't change anything...""Betty...I didn't know you were a...a..." He stuttered."You are feeling guilty because I'm a virgin, righ

“Marriage? I don't understand you" James muttered, his face contorted in confusion. Betty leaned in, her lips brushing against his ear. "You have to marry me," She whispered, then pulled back to gauge his reaction. James was stunned by her words. He hadn't expected her to use this moment to manipulate him. For a second, he thought that she was genuinely hurt by what happened, but it was all a façade. He slowly looked away from her, falling into silence. He didn't know how to respond without escalating the situation. She could press charges against him out of spite. And whether it was his fault or not, he'd likely end up behind bars; his reputation flushed down the drain. "What have I gotten myself into?" James thought, running his hands exasperatedly through his hair. His soul felt crushed by the whole ordeal. He wished that he never had a drink with her, or even let her into his home. "Why didn't I just pick her up last night? Letting her in was a huge mistake, "James lamente

Betty gritted her teeth in anger. She couldn't believe that Amanda had found James's new place. "Why does this woman keep following him, and ruining everything!" She grimaced, hatred flashing in her eyes. "Why can't she just stay out of my way?" Betty stomped her foot, glaring at the door as if Amanda were there. "Should I open the damn door and send her straight to hell?" Betty asked herself, her hand thoughtfully resting on her chin. "Or should I tell her about my night with James," "I'm sure that Amanda would be upset that James was fucking with someone while their daughter was missing. She'll be more upset because she's still in love with him," She murmured. Amanda would undoubtedly be hurt if she heard lies from Betty. Even if she tried to trust James, he would confess eventually, as he too had been deceived. "This will get her out of my way," Betty's anger began to melt away, replaced by a sly smile. Just as she was about to step forward, James's footsteps echoed behind h

"I asked if she had left yet," Betty said loudly, her voice piercing through his ears, thinking that he didn't hear her. "I hope she's gone for her good. I can't stand her anymore," Betty thought, her brows furrowing with irritation as she walked near the gate. James fluttered his eyes open and almost glared at her. Although he thought none of this was her fault, a pang of resentment still welled up in him for her unexpected visit last night. If she hadn't appeared at his front gate at such a late hour, he would still be on favorable terms with his ex-wife. With a deep sigh, James walked away from the gate, his body heavy with exhaustion. As he reached her, he replied curtly, "Yes, she has left,"Betty, instead of dropping the matter, pressed on, "What did she come here to say? Does she want both of you to go on another search?" James shook his head slowly, hesitating for a brief moment, before answering, "She...just wanted to say hi." Betty frowned at this explanation but chos

The man stood in what resembled an office. The walls were painted a darker shade of blue. A mahogany desk sat in the center of the room, paired with a rolling seat that had a peeled surface. To the right, a drawer stood with a mirror mounted above it. A pair of shoes lay close to the drawer, an ashtray carelessly tipped over beside it.The man walked towards the shoes with a smirk on his lips and slipped them on. "Have you found her, or are you joking?" Betty asked, her tone skeptical. The man chuckled, turning towards his table. "I'm not joking. I have found the little girl," The man said, truthfully. "I told you I had my ways. All you have to do is be patient. I won't lie; this has been the toughest search I've ever done," "She's just a kid. Stop exaggerating," Betty hissed, her eye roll almost palpable over the phone. "She didn't go missing, she was kidnapped," He revealed, causing Betty to gasp. "Kidnapped? By who?" She asked, her voice laced with shock. The man shrugged,

Amanda gasped; she thought she heard him wrongly."What did you just say?" She asked, a lump forming in her throat, her heart pounding in her chest out of nervousness. "I said that I love you and won't leave you alone," He repeated his voice firm, tightening his grasp around her as if she might slip away. "You are my lawyer," Amanda reminded him, still in disbelief at how straightforward he was."No, I'm not just your lawyer. I'm your friend," He whispered, moving his hand to hair. He began stroking it gently, his lips curving into a soft and reassuring smile."You're my friend, and I can't stand by and watch you ruin yourself with sadness. I just can't," He said, shaking his head as if the thought pained him. "As your friend, you're my responsibility, and I must ensure that you're alright. I refuse to let you suffer alone," More tears slipped out of Amanda's eyes, her inner turmoil spilling uncontrollably. She struggled against him, feeling both exhausted and comforted. "I just w

"Won't an axe be too harsh for a two-year-old kid?" He thought aloud, a flicker of doubt crossing his mind. A sick smile spread across his lips as he imagined using the axe on her, a cruel fantasy that could send chills through anyone's spine. "That's way too bloody," He shook his head, dropping the axe on the car's floor. He picked up a gun next, examining it with eagerness. "Why didn't I make this decision at home?" He asked himself, rolling his eyes in frustration. "My habit of postponing has finally got me in a dilemma,""I shouldn't even care anyway. I can use any weapon or method to kill her. When did I become such a compassionate person?" He muttered, releasing a fit of cackles that echoed eerily in his car. His expression was completely psychotic, reveling in the thought of doing such horrible things to a defenseless child."It's not my fault that her parents couldn't take care of her. If they had been more responsible, then no one would have captured her. Betty doesn't ev

"Jail," James gasped, slowly turning back. He stared at the intercom for a moment, then walked to it, his heart racing. "Mother, are you threatening me?" James asked, his voice filled with disbelief. "This isn't a threat, James. This is something that will happen if you don't quit being a jerk and fulfill your responsibilities!" His mother snapped, her tons harsh and uncompromising. James couldn't believe his ears. He didn't realize how controlling and toxic his mother could be until now. It seemed his resistance was bringing out the worst out of her, and he felt trapped by her expectations. "What responsibilities are you talking about?" James asked, genuinely bewildered. "I don't understand you at all,""You've got to marry Berty and make her happy, those are your responsibilities," Agnes responded, her words grasping like sandpaper.James let out a cold laugh, more disbelief washing over him. "Why do you seem so surprised?" Mrs. Shawn asked, noticing the shocked look on her face. "Is there a problem I don't know about? Do you know Micheal from somewhere?""I wish I never knew this scoundrel. He is making life miserable in this place," Amanda thought, gritting her teeth."No, Ma'am," Amanda shook her head. "I don't know him. I was just surprised that another person was joining us here, and I wondered how I was going to please him with my services." "You don't have to worry about pleasing anyone," Mrs. Shawn replied softly. "Just do your job right, and attend to our needs within your capacity. That's all.""Okay, Ma'am," Amanda replied, nodding."Good," Mrs. Shawn beamed. The next day, Agnes could be seen pacing back and forth in her sitting room. She had been calling James' number but he wasn't answering."How long is he going to avoid me?" Agnes asked herself, frowning. "I'm his mother for goodness sake, can't he respect me anymore? Everything I'm doing is for his good, why can't he see that and appreciate me?"She lowered the phone from her ear and stared at it for a few moments."Has he blocked me or what?" she asked, dialing his number again. The number went to voicemail again, making her heart wrench in disappointment."Why do I feel like this isn't normal?" Agnes said, worriedly. "I knew he had told me to go to hell, but he should at least answer my calls or send a text message that he's fine.""Why is he being so selfish?" She didn't want more people to take advantage of her because of her naivety."It's okay if you don't want to answer that," the woman said with a smile.
