Maxton held a sealed envelope as he sat by the fireplace in the war room, his eyes fixed on the flames dancing in front of him. He traced the uneven edges of the envelope’s flap, showing the hurried tearing of paper to use in encasing the letter inside it. He had just received a coded message from one of his spies embedded deep within the Western Region. It was not Jason but one of his men who had found it difficult to contact him online since he had been on the run when Georgia attacked the village that housed him, luckily, he was able to flee along with other villagers from that land. The room was dimly lit, with only the flickering light from the hearth casting shadows on the wooden walls. His advisors stood nearby, waiting in tense silence for him to break the seal.
