  Madeline’s POV

“What is my father doing here?” I asked Alpha Jackson.

There was a sharp pain in my chest that was slowly being replaced by anger. I wanted that man gone. I didn’t want him here. He made his choice when he left my mom and me 15 years ago. I didn’t want him here. I didn’t need him.

“You recognized him?” Alpha Jackson asked, surprised.

  Of course, I did.

“I have his eyes,” I mumbled, wiping the tear from my cheek. “And my mom always showed me pictures of him. She wanted me to remember him.”

She loved him so much. She loved him even after everything he did to her. He was her fated mate, who lied to her. He promised to mark her, but he never did. He hurt her so much, and I would never forgive him for it.

I looked back at the fire.

“I will miss you, mom,” I mumbled quietly. “I hope that you are not in pain anymore.”

My voice broke and I stopped to take a deep breath.

“I love you,” I continued quietly. “Please watch over me.”

I still couldn't believe that my mom was gone. She was the most important person in my life. She was the one who loved me the most. She was the one who always took care of me. I didn’t know what I would do without her. I didn’t know how to move on.

“I am so sorry, Mads,” Ali said quietly as she tightened her arms around me. “I will always be here for you. I will always be your friend. You know that, right?”

I nodded, keeping my eyes on the dying flame.

My mom’s body was completely gone.

My mom was gone. She was gone and she would never come back.

My heart broke into a million tiny pieces. I wanted to scream and cry. I wanted my mom to come to hug me. I wanted my mom to call me her little Flower and to tell me that everything would be okay.

I sobbed and leaned my head on Ali’s shoulder.

  “Maddie,” I heard a man’s voice.

I looked up and saw my father standing a few feet away. A woman with an ugly expression on her face was next to him.

Anger rose inside me, and I had the urge to punch him.

“My name is Madeline,” I said as I looked away from him.

“Alison, could you give us some privacy, please?” Luna Maria asked my friend quietly.

“Of course,” Ali responded before I could say that I wanted her to stay here.

She kissed my cheek and let me go. I watched as she walked toward her parents. Her mom pulled her into a hug and it made me want to cry. I wanted my mom to hug me.

But that wasn’t possible anymore. She was gone.

“I am sorry for your loss, Madeline,” my father said, making me look back at him.

The anger returned. I wanted to slap that fake sadness off his face.

“Why are you here?” I asked, clenching my fists. “You made your choice 15 years ago. My mom wouldn't want you here. I don’t want you here.”

My dad sighed and glanced at the woman next to him. He took her hand in his and squeezed it.

  Who was she?

“Your mom called me before she died, honey,” my father said. “She wanted me to take care of you after her death.”

My eyes widened and my heart raced. What the hell was he talking about?

“I don’t need you to take care of me,” I said, trying to stop my voice from shaking. “You haven’t been taking care of me for the last 15 years. Why start now?”

What did that even mean? How would he take care of me? Would he send me money? I didn’t want it. I had two jobs. I would manage somehow. I would sell my house, pay off the debt and find a smaller place to live in. I already had a plan. I didn’t need him.

“I know that you are angry, Maddie, but…” my father said, but I interrupted him.

“It’s Madeline,” I said sternly. “It’s not Maddie or honey. It’s Madeline.”

“Your father is trying to be nice,” the woman who was standing next to him spoke. “You could be a little bit more polite.”

My eyes widened. I could have sworn that I heard Luna Maria growl quietly.

I wasn’t rude. I just didn’t want that man to call me by any nickname.

“It’s okay, Janet,” my father said, keeping his eyes on me. “Madeline has every right to be angry.”

I took a deep breath and released it slowly.

I realized that I wasn’t even angry at him. He didn’t deserve my anger. I was just so sad. I was in pain and all I wanted to do was go back home and curl into my mom’s bed. I wanted to breathe in her soothing scent while it was still there. I wanted to pretend that she was holding me. I wanted to cry my eyes out and let the pain wash over me.

I had to keep it together for the last few days and I was so tired of it. I wanted to let go. I wanted to break down.

“You are 17 years old, Madeline,” my father said. “You are having some financial trouble. Janet and I are here to help.”

I looked at the woman. I seriously doubted that she wanted to help me. The expression on her face told me that she would rather watch me burn next to my mother than help me.

“Who is she?” I asked, looking back at my father.

He took a deep breath and looked at the woman next to him.

“She is my chosen mate,” he said, making my heart stop.

She was his chosen mate?! He left my mom and me and took this woman as his chosen mate?!

“I know that everything is a shock right now, Madeline, but you will have time to get used to it,” my father said, looking back at me. “When you move to our pack, you will…”

  “What?!” I interrupted him.

Move to their pack?! Was he serious?! I wasn’t leaving my pack! I wasn’t moving anywhere! I wasn’t going anywhere with him!

My father took a deep breath and looked at Alpha Jackson.

“We are taking you home with us, Madeline,” my father said. “You can’t stay here anymore. I know I screwed up 15 years ago, but I am here now, and I will take care of you.”

  My heart wasn’t beating anymore.

He wanted me to go with him?

  No.

  No freaking way.

I wasn’t going to go with him. I was going to find a way to stay with my pack.

  I didn’t need him. I didn’t need anyone.

I was going to be okay on my own.

I was going to go home, lay in my mom’s bed, and cry my eyes out. I definitely wasn’t going with my father anywhere. There was no freaking way that I was leaving my pack. There was no freaking way that I was going anywhere with that man. “Madeline!” he called after me. I didn’t respond. I didn’t even turn around. The man left me. He left my mom. Dimitri’s POV A knock on my office door made me look up from the papers in front of me. The scent told me it was my mother. When did she come back? “Come in,” I said, looking back down at the papers. The door opened and my mother walked inside. “When did you come back?” I asked her, not looking up. “An hour ago,” she said as she sat down on the chair in front of my desk. “I couldn't wait to get out of there.” I looked up at her. “Why?” I asked, furrowing my eyebrows. “Did something happen?” Mike and my mother were nervous before they left. Everyone in Mike’s pack knew that he left his fated mate and they didn’t really like him that much. They were afraid of some harsh reactions. “No,” my mother shrugged. “I just didn’t like it there.” I sighed and looked back down. “Is Madeline here?” I asked as I signed another document. “Unfortunately,” my mother mumbled, making me look back up at her. She had an angry expression on her face. “She is an ungrateful brat

I was way too shocked and way too focused on my perfect little mate to even think about an answer. My heart almost broke when I realized that she didn’t recognize me as her mate. She couldn't. She still didn’t have a wolf. Skol whined loudly. I had to stop a growl from escaping my lips. I would have to wait for nine fucking months until she knew who I was. Fuck! I clenched my fists, trying to stop myself from punching something. I couldn't let my mother know. I couldn't let anyone know. They would tell her, and I wanted her to discover it herself. I didn’t want to rob her of the moment when she found her mate. The moment was perfect. Everything about it was perfect. The scent, the sensations, everything. I wanted her to experience it. Madeline’s POV The bedroom was cozy and comfortable. The space was decorated in a simple yet elegant style, with a soothing color palette of light beige and soft blue. The walls were painted in a light shade of beige, creating a calming backdrop for the room. The colors reminded me of summer. I felt like I was on a beach. The bed was the centerpiece of the room, with a plush duvet and a multitude of pillows inviting you to sink in and relax. The headboard was a sleek and modern design, upholstered in a textured blue fabric that added a touch of sophistication to the room. Across from the bed, there was a large window that flooded the room with natural light during the day. The window was framed with light-colored curtains and there was a small desk in front of it. • Rejecting My Lycan Mate   CHAPTER TEN – So fucking hard

Dimitri’s POV I leaned on her bedroom door and took a deep breath. This was going to be so fucking hard. I just wanted to hold her and comfort her. I wanted to tell her that she was mine. I wanted to make her mine. My mate was suffering and I couldn't tell her that she was mine. I fucking couldn't. Her tears were like knives to my heart. Her pain was burning my soul like fire. I wanted to take it all away. I wanted to make it stop. If I could, I would take her sadness and pain and endure it for her. It had only been about half an hour since I found out that she was mine and I already felt excruciating pain because I couldn't make her mine. Every moment felt like an eternity, as I counted the seconds and minutes until I would be able to tell her. My mind was racing with a million thoughts and scenarios, each one more hopeful and more painful than the last. I was hoping that she would somehow know sooner. I was afraid that she would leave before she found out who I was to h

  • Rejecting My Lycan Mate   CHAPTER ELEVEN – The dinner

Madeline’s POV Getting in and out of Mike’s house won’t be a problem at all. There was a giant oak tree just outside my window. The branches were huge and thick and one of them was close enough for me to grab. It was perfect. I wouldn't have to tell Mike where I was going if he didn’t even know that I left. I didn’t pay much attention to my surroundings as I was walking toward the diner I saw on my way to Mike’s house. I didn’t care about this pack. I didn’t care about anything other than finding a job and getting the hell out of there. I had to get a job so I could think about something else other than losing my mom. I needed a distraction and a job would be the best distraction possible. I approached the diner, keeping my eyes on the door. I fixed my posture and opened the door. I didn’t care about the design. I could tell that the diner was very modern, but I focused on the guy at the counter and nothing else. He was around my age, maybe a year or two older. He was wip

Dimitri’s POV I barely slept last night. I kept turning around. I kept picturing Maddie next to me. I kept thinking about her beautiful face and her soft skin. I wanted her so fucking bad and I had no idea how I would survive the next nine months. I would go fucking insane without her. I realized that I had to find a way to get closer to her. I had to become her friend. I had to find a way to be close to her because I would fucking lose it if I didn’t. I wouldn't be able to spend nine months without her. “What’s with the frown?” Will asked as we were walking toward the diner. I needed a cup of coffee and a nice breakfast. Macy’s diner had it all. I hoped that Seth was working this morning. He made the best pancakes. “I barely slept,” I mumbled. Will sighed. I could feel his eyes on me. “Is it Maddie?” he asked, making me tighten my jaw. I already missed her. I wanted to go see her this morning, but I didn’t want to come off as weird. I needed to be careful. I need

  • Rejecting My Lycan Mate   CHAPTER THIRTEEN – Her True Face

Madeline’s POV I walked into Mike’s house and took a deep breath. I was tired. There were many more customers at Seth’s diner than there were back in the diner I was working at. I worked my ass off today. “Where the fuck were you?” I heard Janet’s voice. I looked at her furrowing my eyebrows. Why the hell did she sound so angry? “Answer the question, Madeline,” she said, gritting her teeth. Anger was written all over her face. Her eyebrows were furrowed and I could see her jaw twitching. Her mouth was in a tight line. The muscles on her face were tense and rigid, and her eyes were narrowed. She was glaring at me with so much hate that I almost turned and left the house. I saw a variety of emotions on her face. Annoyance, irritation, and rage were just some of them. Her posture was rigid and her fists were clenched tightly. What the hell did I do? “I was at work,” I mumbled quietly. I wasn’t sure what to do. Why was she so angry at me? “Work?” she scoffed. “Did you

Madeline’s POV I groaned as I turned my head to my right. Every part of my body hurt. What the hell happened to me? Was it the pregnancy? I had no idea that your body could feel like you’d been hit by a train. I had no idea that your head could hurt like someone stabbed a knife into your temples. Would I have to go through 6 months of that? “Hello, my little bird,” someone said softly. The voice was both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. I could have sworn that I had heard it before, but I had no idea where. I was probably dreaming. I gulped and felt around for Dimitri. I wanted to press myself closer to him. The pain would be gone as soon as I was in his arms. I couldn’t find him, though. Did he get up already? “I am here, little bird,” the voice said and I felt a large hand cover mine. I didn’t feel tingles. I didn’t feel sparks. I knew Dimitri’s hand and this wasn’t it. Whose hand was that? Where was I? My heart raced a little. The hand squeezed mine

William’s POV I was pacing around the room, trying to find some fucking way to remain in focus. Dimitri hadn’t stopped whining or growling. I could tell that he was struggling and that he was in immense pain. I knew that he wouldn’t be able to do shit until he came out of the shock he was in. But that was why he had me. I had to take over until he managed to focus back on what mattered the most. “She was poisoned with wolfsbane,” the pack doctor said as he finished checking up on Ali. “The dose wasn’t big. She will be okay, Beta. The wolfsbane just needs to leave her body.” I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I almost lost it when I found her on the floor. But at least I found her. At least she was here. Maddie was… Gone. She was fucking gone. “Thank you,” I mumbled as I opened my eyes and looked at my beautiful mate. “You can leave.” The pack doctor nodded. He glanced at Dimitri before he picked up his bag and walked out of the room. Mike and Ellie walked insi

Dimitri’s POV I sank my canines into another rogue’s neck, biting through all the flesh and bone. His body went limp in my mouth. I grabbed him and tossed him to the side. I looked around me and saw my warriors and my guests fighting with the rogues. We were winning, but something about all this didn’t feel right. I had a bad feeling in my stomach ever since Will and I arrived at the border. I thought it was because I had to leave Maddie, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that wasn’t the reason. Will? I mind-linked him as I sank my canines into another one of the rogues coming at me. Yes? He responded, panting a little. Something isn’t right. I mumbled. Look at how they are behaving. A rogue came at me. He barely attacked even though he was a big wolf and he could have done some damage. He snapped his canines at me, missing my arm for only an inch. But it seemed like it was on purpose. He could have hurt me if he wanted to. What the fuck was going on?

Madeline’s POV “Oh, I am so excited about tonight!” Luna Alice exclaimed. “Do you know who is working with whom?” I smiled and shook my head. “I believe they will decide that once the challenge starts,” I said. “That’s a part of it actually. They need to figure out how to work together to find the object hidden in the forest.” Luna Alice nodded. “Oh, so exciting. I can’t wait to see who will win.” “I am sure that everyone will want Alpha Theodore’s warrior on their team,” Luna Maria chuckled as she took another sip of her drink.” Luna Alice nodded. “oh, definitely. “It will be so interesting to see how they will decide.” I smiled at them and glanced at Dimitri. He was only a few steps away from me. He was talking to Alphas Theodore and Lincoln. I couldn’t hear what they were talking about, but Dimitri was smiling and I relaxed a little. He was too tense ever since we came to the throne room. He refused to let go of me for the first half an hour. I barely managed to conv

Unknown’s POV “Is everything ready?” I asked as I put my hands in my pockets. I was looking through the window into the thick forest that surrounded my new home. It was just perfect. I couldn’t wait to build my future here. All of my dreams would come true in this place. I would finally get everything I always wanted to have. I would finally become everything I was always supposed to be. “Yes, Alpha,” Brody said. “Everything will be over tonight.” I smiled and took a deep breath. I was so excited and I could barely think about anything else other than finally seeing her tonight. “What about Kendrick, Alpha?” Brody asked and my mood worsened instantly. I fucking hated that man. He was nothing but a greedy, little rat who thought that he would get what he fucking wanted by sucking up to me. “He is a useless piece of thrash,” I said, growling quietly. “We don’t need him.” Brody was silent for a moment. “Are you sure, Alpha?” he asked. “He has insight into…” “What?” I

Dimitri’s POV If someone would describe me as an overprotective and an over-possessive mate I would tell them that they hadn’t seen anything yet. Now that I knew Maddie was pregnant, I would be damned if I let her out of my sight for even one second. Especially in a situation like this when everyone was here and where there was someone who wanted to take my throne. My mate and my pup were a sure way to do that. I would give up everything for them. “Princess,” I mumbled softly as I approached her and wrapped my arms around her from behind. I placed a hand on her lower belly and kissed her shoulder. I was holding my entire world in my arms and that feeling was so fucking hard to describe. “How are you feeling?” I asked her. “Are you nauseous? Are you uncomfortable?” Maddie chuckled and shook her head. “I am perfectly fine,” she said, placing her hand over mine. “I am only a few days pregnant. I think that the symptoms will come a bit later.” I knew that, but I had to as

Dimitri’s POV Skol’s whining woke me up from my peaceful sleep. I groaned and tried to shut him out. ‘No, Dimitri,’ he whined. ‘Let me out.’ I tried to push him back, but he wouldn’t budge. ‘Let me out,’ he growled, trying to push me to shift. ‘Let me out.’ What the hell was wrong with him? I groaned and opened my eyes slowly. It was still dark outside. Maddie was sleeping peacefully next to me. What the fuck did Skol want? ‘What the hell, Skol?’ I mumbled, pulling Maddie closer to me. ‘Let me sleep.’ ‘No, Dimitri,’ he whined again. ‘You need to let me out. I can feel him.’ Feel him? What the fuck was he talking about? Was someone here? Was someone on our floor? I opened my eyes abruptly and looked at the door. I tensed up and prepared myself to jump out of bed. I was going to kill whoever it was. I was going to fucking rip them to pieces. Were they here to hurt Maddie? Were they here to… ‘No, Dimitri,’ Skol interrupted my thoughts. ‘No one is here. It’s not like they can feel it. I could be reading your mind right now and you wouldn’t know.” Ellie sighed again. “It’s not about that, Madeline,” she said, shaking her head. “It’s about what happens after. Dimitri doesn’t want to risk it and we all agree with him. It’s not worth it. He will find him without your powers.” I furrowed my brows in confusion. “What could happen after?” I asked. “They will want to know how we found out? I could feel my heart skipping a beat. I buried my nose into her hair and took a deep breath. I missed her so fucking much. It didn’t matter if I was away from her for only a minute. I missed her regardless of the time I spent away from her. “Where is Dimitri?” Maddie asked, making me look at her. “He is still at the party,” I said, giving her a small smile. “He will be here soon.” Maddie nodded and continued pacing around. “Is everything okay?” I asked worriedly.
