[Amor’s POV]
“A war that lasted for generations and a war that completely changed the way I viewed the ultimas and the world. A war that has never been accounted in any history book, but a war that possibly gave this world one last chance,” Zahir said, skimming his eyes over all of us.
I wondered if my werewolf abilities were enhanced because of the Frost forest or because those forests were once inhabited by the ultimas? I kept my questions to myself for the time being and listened to Zahir.
“The ultimas could bend magic with their bare hands and tear apart any illusion created by dark magic with their fangs. I was stupefied when I witnessed their true strength, and my hopes for this world were rekindled. The ultimas seemed to be mana-resistant, which wasn’t the case. Mana affected them as well, but because of their focused mind, their lands and their pure souls, they
[Amor’s POV]The aura around Zeve was completely disturbed. “Please calm down, your highness. Your mana is flowing at an alarming rate. Like this, the seal I put on you will break. Please calm down,” Hikari coaxed Zeve.Panting, Zeve looked at Hikari and then at Zahir.“Beta Morfan, royal doctor and alpha, please leave this tower right now,” Zahir said. All of us were already on our feet, unable to comprehend what was going on with Zeve. Lucella held Morfan’s hand and stayed by his side, peering at Zeve with tense eyes.“Morfan, escort Lucella to her palace,” I ordered.“But, alpha. How can we leave…”The pressure Zeve’s aura created on the whole tower had started crumbling its roof. “Leave at once!” I yelled and Morfan ran out of the tower with Lucella.“Overlord, please leave with alpha, I will take care of her highness,” Hikari said as the tattoo on his neck disappeared and white dragon revolved around Zeve and Hikari separating Zahit and me from them.I was about to get closer t
[Zeve’s POV]“Zeve!” Lucella called out to me as soon as I opened my eyes. My head hurts, my body hurts.“Amor!” I got up with a jolt and my room spun before my eyes. “Where is Amor?”I kept telling him to leave me and run, but he kept hugging me.My body was paralysed when my mana ran wild, so I wasn’t even sure if I was yelling at him to run away from me in my mind or in reality.“Hikari has taken him to the healer pool,” Lucella said. “Don’t worry about him. He will be fine. I know Hikari will take good care of him.”“Oh, my God. What did I do?” I asked. “What has happened…”“Nothing, Zeve. Don’t stress too much. Rest…” Lucella couldn’t finish because Zahir interrupted.“You almost killed Alpha today,” Zahir, who was standing leaning against the doorframe, said. “You cannot control your emotions and that is why you cannot control your mana, either. Hikari told me that your incomplete soul has somehow healed and you will not need his seal on your back anymore. But keeping you withou
[Zeve’s POV]Dressed as commoners, with a hooded brown robe, I roamed around the streets of Arginieth and that was when the true beauty of that place unfurled in front of me. While walking on the footpaths with Lexi, Vance and Trent, I witnessed a religious protest, which was a silent candle march of people dressed in sky blue robes on the road.More than a protest, it looked like stars walking on streets. They didn’t look as if they were against me, rather; they were supporting their ideas and standing firm with their beliefs. But that didn’t mean people weren’t talking about me. There had been hundreds of gossips that my butterflies and I have been hearing since the day I came out with my powers in front of the public. There had been mixed opinions.“I don’t know why the religious leaders are asking luna to leave the pack. If she really is the one to bring doom to our world, she should be killed,” I heard someone speak in the busy market.“Shh! Do you have a death wish? Mind your wo
[Zeve’s POV]His footsteps kept getting louder and louder. He stood right outside the alley. The yellow light behind him coming from the street lamps created his black silhouette. I kept my head low, partially eclipsed by the hood. I saw his shoes as he stood in front of me.I tightened my grip on the dagger beneath my robe.He reached out to my hood.“Why were you crying earlier?” A familiar voice reached my ears. He placed his palm on my cheek under the hood of my robe and traced my eyes with his thumb as if he was wiping off my non-existent tears. I tightened the grip over my dagger, my heart pulsating against my chest. His icy touch wasn’t scary, but that wasn’t a strong enough reason for me to not kill him.I grabbed his neck. Twirled him around. By the end of the twirl, I teleported both of us in an abandoned meadow somewhere in the forests of Arginieth. I slammed him on the ground, pinning him on the grass as I sat astride him.“Who are you? Why were you following me?” I ask
[Zeve’s POV]A warm wind that reminded me of a gentle summer passed through my hair. I turned around and Hikari was standing in front of me.His eyes went to the wound I had made in my hand. In a few strides he crossed the distance between us, held my hand in his and then looked at me, “this wound? What happened here? Are you ok? Where else are you hurt?”His concerned gaze travelled all over me with impatience.“A vampire was following me, so I killed him. In the fight I got a few scratches, that’s it.” I took back my hand from him. “Don’t worry, it will cure in no time.”He held my shoulders and pulled me closer to him. “Vampire? Did he try to kill you?”I removed his hands from me and stepped away from him. “I killed him before he could try. I am not a kid, Prince Hikari. I can take care of myself.”He left out a soft sigh and took out a white handkerchief from his kimono coat. Without saying a word or looking at me, he wrapped it around my hand. “Let’s go back to the palace. It’s
[Zeve’s POV]Amor looked pale. He had grown stubble beards. It was clear from his face that he wasn’t eating and sleeping properly. I wondered if he had slept even for an hour since that day he came to who Dawn was to me. Dark circles had appeared under his eyes and he looked exhausted. His unreadable eyes were mysterious and dull, as if he was dead inside. I could clearly see how difficult this whole situation had been for him and somewhere I blamed myself for it, even though I knew I wasn’t at fault. He was there right in front of my eyes, yet… I couldn’t put my thoughts into words because I was blank. I didn’t know what to say, what to ask, or what to do. Maybe I was hurting him just by standing before him.I wanted to disappear, but his gaze on me didn’t give me the freedom to avert my eyes.I just kept peering into his eyes, waiting for him to say something. But he, too, had turned silent.I saw Jade and Yule peep from behind Amor’s legs and I immediately understood it was their
[Amor’s POV]It has been two days since Zeve went missing. She was last seen with mother as reported by Lexi. Hikari is still out searching for her, but I hadn’t heard from him either. Mother said Zeve walked through the secret passage leading to lady Dawn’s room and she was able to see all the memories of lady Dawn through her magic.Zeve never entered lady Dawn’s room and returned midway. “Alpha, we have searched every corner of Arginieth, even the most isolated areas. But no news on luna,” Morfan said, bringing his horse closer to mine. Zeve could possibly be in any part of this world right now and the next moment somewhere else because she could easily teleport. Zahir asked Hikari to look for Zeve beyond the Frost forest on the islands of the Ultimas.“Make preparations. We are going to Uhnim,” I said. “But alpha tonight is the meeting with the religious leaders,” Morfan said.“None of that matters right now,” I said, racing my horse back to the Aura palace.I will go anywhere
[Amor’s POV]I anxiously held her hands, “Zeve… what did you say?”“I am sure you heard it well enough,” she said, taking her hand back from me.“What does that mean?” I asked, licking my dry lips.“It means I am the only one with all the rights over myself,” she said, peering into my eyes.I nodded then smiled at her, “of course. You have all rights over yourself. If you don’t want to tell where you were, it’s ok. I am sure you needed some time alone too…”She dropped her gaze and walked back to her dressing table. I trudged behind her.She picked the comb to brush her hair. I took it from her hand. She looked at me, confused. I lowered my gaze, walked behind her, and brushed her hair.I tried not to overthink what she said. My mind and my body perhaps understood how scary those words were and how fearful their outcome could be, but my heart kept denying all of it. My fingers had turned cold within seconds. Beyond the roots of the haunting silence was a tree of words both of us wan
