RICK FORSON

JONES WHISTLED AS soon as Anna was out of earshot. "She is quite a woman, don't you think?"

She is, Rick nodded to himself. I have made a very big mistake by sending her away.

"Are you here with me, Rick?" Jones waved a hand over his friend's face.

Rick blinked hard and nodded. "Yes. What did you say?"

"I said she's quite the woman," Jones repeated. "And to think that you sent her away... damn."

"I didn't send her away," Rick muttered, pushing his plate away. "She left on her own free will."

"My father should have advised you better," Jones said.

Rick scoffed. When Jones was in Barcelona studying, his father who had been Rick's father's Beta, Alex, had stepped in to counsel Rick in Jones's stead.

When Jones returned, Alex had stepped out and retired.

"Nobody knew when she left," Rick stood up and stretched. "Or why she left."

Jones raised an eyebrow. "She said something about you discarding her for her sister."

Rick snorted. "That is nonsense."

"Is it?" Jones asked, he d

MITCH CHESTER"WE HAVE AN incident," Draco said, pushing open the door and walking in. "That doesn't sound good," Mitch looked up from the laptop he had been gazing at for the past hour. He rubbed his eye sockets with the heel of his wrist, they made a squeaky sound. "I needed a break. What's up?""Terry has some troubles he wants to show you," Draco replied."Goddes, no. Not Terry." Mitch groaned. Terry was one of the subjects in his kingdom and the most troublesome one at that. He always had a problem he wanted to show the king or some issue that the king should address. "You know what? Tell Terry that I'm busy. You, take care of that yourself."Draco chuckled. "You're not getting out of this one, Mitch." He pointed. "Besides, it sounds like Terry is truly up to something. He sounded really worried."Mitch frowned and stood up. He could feel his bones creaking. "Not as young as we once were," He muttered. His beast chucked and replied, "We will still be in our prime in the next 30 y

MITCH CHESTER "WHAT DOES TERRY want this time?" Lorna asked, walking beside Mitch. He shrugged. "You know how he is, and his theatrics." He turned and saw that Terry still stood in the heavy wind, Draco stood with him. "It's probably nothing."Lorna followed his gaze and shook her head subtly. "It seems to be more than nothing," she said. "I think this time you should take him seriously. I could go and pick the kids while you men discuss."Mitch scoffed. "No.""But your Highness -""I said No!" She bowed her head in submission and nodded. "You can hang out with them after school..." Mitch said as a guard opened the garage for him. He got into one of the cars.Lorna placed a hand on the window. "I think Terry isn't bluffing." She said in a low tone. "I woke up with a dreadful chill this morning."Mitch snorted. "We are in the ice mountains, waking up with a chill isn't something that is unusual...""It's not that.""Then maybe you have caught the plague," Mitch's lips rose in a smil

ANNA KYLIN CHESTERTHE PAST TWO days went by in a blur. Getting to work in the pack was easier because I already knew what to do. I immediately ordered Marcus and the other medical team to round up the pack members and extract their blood so we could start working on a vaccine.Getting Marcus to work for me was easier than I expected. "It is because he fears us," Ava said in my head. "And for good reason." Marcus is a human was was mated to a wolf. My father had accepted him into the pack on the terms that he could never leave. He avoided any direct contact with me, and I didn't mind. I didn't want to speak to him either. The slimy, two-faced human! My phone rang at the same time as the door opened and a nurse came in. I glanced at the caller ID and picked, "Doctor Kylin," I said."You should change that to Doctor Chester," His growl sent excited shivers down my spine. Mitch had never called me before, so I was concerned. "Is anything the matter?" I asked."The children are fine if t

MITCH CHESTERMITCH PORED OVER the large map spread out on the table. The map included the human community down below, his kingdom which extended into the mountains, and the packs closest to him. He was trying to plot a direction from any of the packs nearby that would lead them to the Northern Border. There was none, and it was making Mitch frustrated.A knock sounded on his door. He grunted. He had told Draco to take a day off and spend time with his mate. The door opened silently and Lorna came in. Mitch sighed, leaned back, and watched as she approached. On closer inspection, it was like her face was more lined than usual like the old age was finally catching up to her."What happened to you?" Mitch snorted. "You look like you aged 100 years in 2 days."She nodded and sat down opposite him. "I made contact with my sisters..."Mitch's face dawned with concern. That contact and communication would sap Lorna of her energy. No doubt that that was why she was looking like an old husk o

ANNA KYLIN CHESTERI DON'T KNOW if I was being paranoid, but it felt like Tick had someone tailing me. Everywhere I turned and went, it was always like I was being followed even though I did not see anyone. Ever since our confrontation in my office, he had not spoken to me.As I made my rounds in the sick ward, going through the patients, I wondered how Rick had found out about my children, and how he knew that they belonged to him."Not 'they'," Ava said in my head."What?""Not 'they'," she repeated. "He did not refer to Addison as his own. He was only concerned about Aiden."I recollected the encounter and nodded in agreement. Rick must have thought that Aiden was his while Addison was Mitch's.Oh how I would have loved that, I sighed. How I would have loved it if I was never pregnant for Rick in the first place and my two children belonged to Mitch. It was a wistful thinking that I would have never imagined I would have. But given the circumstances, I would rather be pregnant for

ANNA KYLIN CHESTERTHE HIGH PITCHED WHINE of the monitor was as loud and heavy as a blanketed silence. It was like the other patients also stopped breathing."Are you alright, Doctor?" The faraway voice of the nurse asked. She came to me and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Doctor Anna, can you hear me?"I then realized that the high-pitched whine wasn't from any machine, it was from my head."Hey!" The nurse called. "Give me a hand over here."The whine reduced and my vision became clearer. "I'm fine - I'm fine..." I started to pull away but the nurse held me firm."Are you sure?" She asked. "You look very pale. You should sit down,"Some other nurses came to assist me as I headed out. Doctor Marcus's haze glinted as he looked at me. "Probably her first death!" He scoffed. "Amateur!"I wanted to take his head. But I didn't want to frighten the human nurses assisting me... and deep down, I knew he was right. This was my first time experiencing the death of a patient or case I was handli

"For one, they are with the Lycan...""So?""The same Lycan that his family has rebelled against the world werewolves for centuries without failing?" Jones asked. "The same Lycan that his uncle was responsible for the death of the vampire King Vladimir? You expect me to approach him and snatch the boy?""You are just making up excuses, Jones."Jones frowned. He wanted to tell Rick to go do it by himself, but he swallowed his words. "It has to be a silent operation." He said instead. ANNA KYLIN CHESTER LISTENING TO THE shrill voice of my sister had been starting to get on my nerves, but I was feeling numb so I let her keep on ranting, trying to rile the crowd up against me. I was prepared to let her exhaust herself out, but then, to my surprise, Rick came out and defended me. I gave a small pat of appreciation to the nurse who had spoken up for me, then I walked away. The crowd shuffled away nervously, making a wide path for me as I walked past them, and I smiled inwardly. Beth seemed to have forgotten something - I was also Luna with an even stronger root to this pack than she was.I could hear Rick following me as I went to my suite at the inn where I was staying. I unlocked the door and entered. Sure enough, a few seconds later, Rick came in after me."Thank you for what you did," I said.He shrugged. "I could not have them start to disrespect you..." he said. "That was what Beth wanted to achieve."I chuckled. Beth wanted something more than disrespect to me

FIVE MONTHS LATER,I RUB my belly fondly. It has become a subconscious habit of mine since the belly bump sprouted. On some nights, I wake up from the nightmares and horrors of being locked up in the prison underground. It has been 5 months already, but the remnants of what we lost were still vivid. Every fallen warrior was given a befitting burial. After the death of the vampires, Paige started having recurring dreams of her lost memories. I had Lorna suppress it again. i also had Lorna wipe out the memory of Janet the mistress, now she was a servant in the palace... "Are we almost there yet?" Addison asked from the back seat. Mitch grunted. "Almost." I turn and look at him. The scar he had gotten from the battle that ran across his eyes was now white, it was healing well. The cut missed his eyes by less than an inch, but the scar added to his dangerous look. I reach out and touch his hand. He turns and looks at me, but I can not decipher what is going on in his head as his eyes

Arranging the warriors for battle on such short notice was not an easy feat as most of his warriors were not familiar with guns, but he had made them ready and prepped for battle under a few hoursHe grunted as a vampire sank his fang into his arm. He growled grabbed the vampire by its head and slammed it into the ground."Keep your head in the fight, Mitch," Draco snapped. "Don't die when she is just a few feet away."Mitch chuckled. He turned and looked at his mate again. She was holding her own well against the vampires surrounding her and Alphonso."Do these things ever finish?" Mitch asked, looking around at the vampires still swarming over the field."We have to take out the elder vampires, or Vladimir himself," Draco said, stabbing a vampire dead on the floor. He shook his spear loose and lo

I saw Lorna clench her jaws in pain as Agatha squeezed her blood into a cup, which she mixed with some herbs and gave to Vladimir. He drank it all in one gulp. Dark red veins streaked up his neck, and his eyes went bloodshot. She walked to me and added, “I will offer the life of the reincarnated grand witch, Annika, and use it to bind the soul of the vampire king, giving him immense power and immunity to the mountain ash wood…““I heard her raise her hand. The air stretched with tension, and time seemed to slow down. I opened my eyes, expecting to see my life flash before my eyes, bu

ANNA KYLIN CHESTER“COME HERE!“ THE grating of the cell on its hinges made me look up. One of the vampires was on the other side. She reached in and pulled me out harshly. My knees scraped the rough floor; I bit my lips to keep the pain in. Another one reached in and tried to grab Lorna but gasped in pain, pulling back immediately. “I will come out myself,“ Lorna said coolly. “But try to touch me again, and it will be the last thing you ever do.“ The vampire stared daggers at her but did not move to grab her again. She cradled her hand, rubbing it fondly. Lorna must have secured herself with some sort of spell. “And you will unhand the Luna immediately too.“ Lorna said in a cold voice to the vampire who had her fingers wrapped tightly on my upper arm. The vampire looked uncertain, but she saw the cold and threatening look on Lorna's face. I was also shocked, but it did the trick. The vampire released me. “Where are we going?“ Lorna asked, but I could guess already. “It is time for

THE FIGHT WAS OVER almost as quickly as it started. We did not stand a chance against Vladimir and he was already getting empowered by the forthcoming blood moon. Lorna was sprawled on the floor, blood seeped from her mouth and her back was twisted in an unnatural angle. I was on my feet, but it was threatening to give way any second. And Vladimir? He did look like he had done anything. No sweat. No hair out of place. He had his sinister smile plastered on his face as he walked towards me. He stopped a few feet away and brushed my cheek with his icy-cold fingers. “Your last few hours should have been enjoyable, Annika.“ he said softly. “But instead, you let that witch,“ he turned and looked at Lorna before he continued, “...to spoil it. Tch.“ she chuffed and walked away. “It is back to square one now.“The woods around were suddenly alive, and things moved in the shadows. ANNA KYLIN CHESTERI SAT UP in my bed, my heart was racing, and adrenaline surged as my wolf leaped to the surface, enhancing my vision, but I could not still make out the shape of the person in my room. I was about to jump through the door, not minding that I would alert the whole mansion, but I felt a pair of fingers wrap around my upper arm. Gasping in shock, I turned sharply, trying to wrestle my arm away from the stranger's grip, but to no avail. I am being attacked by two people, I thought anxiously to myself. I started to yell, but the person holding me stepped out of the shadows and my scream died in my throat."Lorna?!" I gaped. She put a finger to her lip to keep me silent. Then she cocked her head. I swung my legs out of the bed. My mind was spinning with imagination. I still felt like I was in a dream. I reached out and touched her. She was real."Quickly," she said to me. She muttered some words under her breath and the lock in the door snapped apart. The door opened

She might be out of the kingdom now.“ Mitch growled. “Just tell them to search.“ “We should probably get back,“ Draco said, turning to look around. Mitch nodded. He looked at Vorenus. Draco could see the hesitation in Mitch's body language. He knew what mitch was about to do. He dipped his hand into his pocket and tossed a small object at Vorenus who caught it easily, confused at what it was. Suddenly there was a sizzling sound and vorenus dropped the object quickly. The smell of burnt flesh filled the air and Drcao nodded in satisfaction. “What was that?“ Vorenus growled. “Silver, “Draco said. “Silver bullets. He pressed down on the pedal, and the car shot even faster. “This fucking snow,“ he growled as he screeched to a stop. The tires of the car were stuck in the thick layer of snow. He got out of the car; his legs sank almost to his knees.Draco came out too, cursing under his breath. “I wonder whose idea it was to get electric cars to drive over snow,“ he looked at Mitch and added sarcastically. “Oh wait, it was your brilliant idea.“Mitch rubbed his chin and said, “Maybe I should have gone with your idea and bought electric sleds instead.“Draco scoffed, kicking at the snow.Mitch looked around. He had no doubts that it was because his mate was still out there in danger, his son was lying in bed, unconscious and blind, and his kingdom was on the brink of civil war.He paced the length of the room anxiously, his eyes drifting into the dancing fireplace as he walked past. A small knock came at the door. “Come in,“ he called. The door opened, and Draco came in. He took a look around the small, almost empty room and shook his head, saying, “You are still sleeping here.“Mitch chuffed and nodded, “I can't stay in the master chambers alone. Anna should be with me.“Draco nodded and said, “I understand that, but…“ He looked around again. “I am sure you can do better than a tiny room. There is even no air conditon -““No one uses air conditioning here, Draco,“ Mitch said. He sat on the bed heavily; it creaked under his weight.“There is no ventilation,“ Draco continued,
