ANNA KYLIN CHESTER

I TRIED TO sleep in Mitch's embrace, but my mind refused to go calm. It felt like I was supposed to be somewhere else, but I didn't know where.

After trying fruitlessly for an hour, I slid out of his arms. He was still deep asleep. I adjusted his neck position to prevent pain, then I walked out of the lounge room.

It was dark outside, but it got dark very quickly here, so I knew time might not be far gone. I went to the dining room, Liz and Patty were just cleaning up the table.

"Good evening, Luna," Patty said.

I nodded.

"The children have eaten dinner already," Liz said. "You and the alpha were sleeping. I didn’t want to wake and disturb your rest."

"Oh. Thank you, Liz." I told her. "Where are the children now?"

"They are in the TV room now," she said. I nodded again and started to go out. "What will you have for dinner, Luna?"

"What's available?" I asked. I was not in the mood to eat. For some reason, I wasn't hungry.

"Uh... we have pot roast," Patty said. "Sal

TO VORENUS, IT often felt like they were always moving from one bar or club to another. Some centuries ago - no, some months ago - he would have enjoyed it. The thrill. The high and fast life. The blood of new and fresh humans. It was all too enticing, but now, Vorenus wanted nothing more than to just stay alone and stare at the moon."Vladimir wants you," Alice growled from the darkness.Vorenus remained sitting. He did not give any indication that he heard her."Are you listening?" She asked. He cocked his head and dropped from the rooftop of the club they were at that night."Where is he," He asked, brushing past her roughly."The VIP section," she said, walking up to him. "Can you believe that this club is tied to his name?""I can, Alice," Vorenus said, pushing past the dancing humans. "I can because I was there when he acquired all the lands centuries ago.""You might be older than me, Vorenus," Alice hurried up and whispered into his neck."I am older than everyone you know," V

"I DID NOT expect this much," Enrique said. He and Lorna were sitting on the sand a few distance from where the tents were erected."To be honest, neither did I," Lorna said, leaning into Enrique's frame."We didn't bring a tent," Enrique grunted. "We should have.""It is not needed," Lorna said. "Look at the sky. It's so beautiful."Enrique looked up and nodded, but he said, "You can't lie on the sand," he said. "It would be uncomfortable to sleep on."Lorna chuckled dryly. "Who said anything about sleeping?" She asked. "We are all keeping a watch vigil.""You people have a lot of rituals," Enrique muttered under his breath. She nodded. "We are not shapeshifters like werewolves and Lycans; we are not monsters of the night or water like Vampires or Sirens... but what we do have, is our tradition. And it's something we will always relish and follow."Enrique remained silent for a moment, then he scoffed and said, "Sirens." He chuckled. "Those things are not real.""Oh is that so?" Lor

SHE DIDN'T KNOW. Her mind could not imagine the sheer strength of a Lycan, especially one as aged as Enrique. She was overwhelmed by his power and beaten out of her senses.Enrique did not like the thought of hitting a woman, but to protect another whom he loved? Yes, he would. She was a sire vampire, but a new one and she was feeling overconfident, which was what he used to his advantage. "Is everything alright? I felt a slight change in the energy flow a few minutes ago." Lorna's voice floated into his head.He easily parried a strike from the vampire and slashed with his claws. His beast was enjoying this too much. "We had a visitor, but I'm handling it." He replied Lorna. He could still hear the worry in her voice as she said, "We are almost done here.""Take your time, Lorna." He grunted."That's your beast talking, Enrique, are you okay?" She asked."Splendid," He slammed his knee into the ribcage of the woman vamp."Do not kill anyone out there, Enrique," Lorna added. "This is

ONCE THE NECROMANCERS were done doing their business with the ghosts of the departed sisters, the witches dispersed and had time to assess the damage Alice had dealt on them before Enrique intervened. None of the sisters were dead, but many were badly injured. Luckily some of the witches were skilled healers, so they got to working on the injured ones while Lorna, furious, made her way to Enrique. "Who was that?" She snarled. "Who caused all these?""A vampire," Enrique answered. "A high-ranking vampire. She could move with the night shadows.""So that means she was created by Vladimir himself," Lorna said, and Enrique nodded. "You didn't kill her.""I didn't. You told me not to." Enrique said. "But I left her very beaten up.""I would like to have a word with her," Lorna said, frowning as she walked past Enrique. "It was a stupid attempt by Vladimir to try and attack us. He would not stoop so low to attack the witches during burial rites. He wouldn't."Enrique led her to the scene o

She was going to wake up with a crick in her neck. He stretched and went to the window. He pulled the curtain aside slightly and looked out, it was still dark out, but he could tell that it was almost dawn.He washed his mouth and grabbed a thick shawl and overcoat, putting them on as he went out of the palace."Mornin', Your Highness," The two guards manning the front doors greeted as soon as Mitch stepped out.He nodded in response. "Cold night, huh," he said."Yes, sir," One of them said. "But it's not anything that we can't handle." He said with slight pride in his voice."I'm sure of that," Mitch commented. "See anything out of usual?" He asked. The second guard shook his head. "No, sir." He said. "We also didn't get any news from the patrol scouts. It was a very peaceful night."Mitch nodded and

AFTER THIS SECOND meeting and close contact with the Baby Lycan, Vorenus knew that he was right since the first time he saw the Lycan. This was no "baby" lycan. He might be young, but there was nothing weak about him. He carried himself with someone who knew what he was doing, and his beast had a type of ferocity seen in age-old beasts.Vorenus's mind was calm now that he was certain that the girl, Paige, was alive. She had been saved before the cold got to her. Vorenus landed on the upper balcony of the mansion. He knew he would be alone now. Vladimir would most likely be in a club, and Bartholomew would be taking care of the boat in the port.Vorenus walked in and went to the bar. He poured himself a bottle of whiskey and took a sip as he headed to the porch. He patted his breast pocket, feeling the hard fangs poke his chest. He wondered how Vladimir was going to react. Even though he had been with Vladimir for over 1,000 years, Vladimir still remained unpredictable. Vorenus took a

It was dawn and the early wakers of the kingdom were up and about already."Nice morning Your Highness," greeted called out randomly as he walked past. He smiled and nodded to each person as he walked, enjoying the feeling of the snow crunching underneath his feet and the warm, bright sun on his neck. When he entered the palace, he checked in the lounge room and saw that Anna was still asleep. Then he went upstairs to wash up before coming down for breakfast."Early morning, Your Highness," Patty greeted from the kitchen. He grunted as he sat at the table. "I had troubled sleep.""Coffee will clear your head," she said, placing a steaming hot jug on the table. "Breakfast will be out soon." Mitch nodded. He poured himself a glass of black coffee and took a sip as he went to his office. "Might as well check on business while I wait for breakfast," he muttered to himself. He glanced th

ANNA KYLIN CHESTER I WOKE UP slowly, destabilized for a minute until I realized that I was being cradled in Mitch's arms and he was carrying me up the stairs. "Hey there, beautiful," He said.I could both hear his deep, baritone voice and feel it coming from his chest."What's the time?" I asked softly."Too far gone," He replied, chuckling slightly."I didn't mean to sleep this late," I said, trying to work myself from his arms, but he held me steadfast. "Mitch. You can drop me now. I'm awake.""I can see that," he muttered, but made no move to release me. So I resigned myself to my situation, and it was not a bad one. I looked at his underprofile, his dark stubble, strong chin, and dominant jaw."You have a scar," I said, noting the white line. "On your neck."He grunted an inaudible reply. I reached up and touched the line gently. He shouldered the door open and finally dropped me on the bed. "Thank you," I said as he went to the bathroom and turned on the taps. Then he came bac

He pressed down on the pedal, and the car shot even faster. “This fucking snow,“ he growled as he screeched to a stop. The tires of the car were stuck in the thick layer of snow. He got out of the car; his legs sank almost to his knees.Draco came out too, cursing under his breath. “I wonder whose idea it was to get electric cars to drive over snow,“ he looked at Mitch and added sarcastically. “Oh wait, it was your brilliant idea.“Mitch rubbed his chin and said, “Maybe I should have gone with your idea and bought electric sleds instead.“Draco scoffed, kicking at the snow.Mitch looked around. His breath vaporized from his mouth as he breathed out. “Come, we are not far,“ he said to Draco.“Sometimes I wonder why I follow you,“ Draco said as they walked away from the stuck car. “This is crazy. MITCH CHESTERMITCH KNEW HIS mind should be at rest now that he had reinforcements, but his mind was still worried. He had no doubts that it was because his mate was still out there in danger, his son was lying in bed, unconscious and blind, and his kingdom was on the brink of civil war.He paced the length of the room anxiously, his eyes drifting into the dancing fireplace as he walked past. A small knock came at the door. “Come in,“ he called. The door opened, and Draco came in. He took a look around the small, almost empty room and shook his head, saying, “You are still sleeping here.“Mitch chuffed and nodded, “I can't stay in the master chambers alone. Anna should be with me.“Draco nodded and said, “I understand that, but…“ He looked around again. “I am sure you can do better than a tiny room. There is even no air conditon -““No one uses air conditioning here, Draco,“ Mitch said. He sat on the bed heavily; it creaked under his weight.“There is no ventilation,“ Draco continued,

ANNA KYLIN CHESTERTHE DINNER PROGRESSED silently between me and Janet after Vladimir left. I was not inclined to say anything to her, so I ignored all the stares she sent my way. I was focused on the meal, because I do not know the next time I would eat again. It might not be until the ritual, and if I had any hopes of escaping, then I need all the energy I can get. When I had eaten to my fill, I sat back, watching Janet's thin hands pick at her food tastelessly.“You are vegan,“ I said, noting that there was no meat nor fish on her plate. She scoffed, “Unlike you savages, I care about the lives of animals.“ She stuffed a strip of carrot into her mouth. “I heard that you dogs even eat raw meat. That is just disgusting.““And yet you sleep with a man - a creature that drinks raw blood… you don’t think that is disgusting?“ I retorted, knowing that she was right about us eating raw meat. Sometimes when in our wolf skin, he could go hunting and eat whatever we catch, which could range fr

ANNA KYLIN CHESTERHOLDING ON TO Vorenus softly as he led me out, We walked up a flight of stairs and down a hallway till we stopped in front of a thick, mahogany wood. I took a deep breath as Vorenus pushed the door open and stood aside to let me through. Taking careful steps, I walked into the room. It was like a large hall, lit up beautifully with gold chandeliers. There was a small round table in the middle of the room, and Vorenus was seated at the head of the table. He looked at me as I walked in; his eyes widened slightly, but that was the only reaction he gave. His human mistress sat beside me; the look she gave was a nasty, dirty stare, but she kept her mouth shut. Vladimir's eyes followed me all the way to the table. I nodded at him curtly and took a seat. The table was filled with many delicacies, and even a full roast pig sat in the center.“Thank you for coming,“ Vladimir said.It was not like I had any option; I scoffed under my breath. I turned and looked behind me, exp

ANNA KYLIN CHESTERI DO NOT know how long I remained in the cage — listening to the dripping of water in the far dark distance. But I knew when the sun went down, because the mansion became more active, and the sound of night bugs joined in the sound of water droplets.I felt like I was going to run mad, but the door opened and the butler came in. He was human, I was sure of it, but still, there was something off about him. But I could not place my hand on it. He stood a few feet away from my cell and looked at me in a spiteful manner. “My name is Bartholomew the Fourteenth,“ he said. The fourteenth? I asked myself. Does that mean that fourteen generations of this man's family had lived with and worked for Vladimir?“What you are thinking is exactly correct,“ the butler said. “And no, I cannot read minds, but I could clearly see the confusion written on your face.”“What do you want?“ I asked. If he was going to be anything like the other human in the mansion - Janet, I wanted to prep

Vladimir. She turned and looked at the way she had come from, considering her options. Should she take this vampire back to the kingdom where he could be interviewed by Mitch for information, or should she take the more riskier option and tell the vampire to take her to where Anna was being kept prisoner? She looked back and forth a couple of times, then she made her decision. She was not going back to the kingdom. She and they w

LORNA LOOKED OUT the window and watched as Mitch addressed the guest from the Red Moon pack; she saw the way they looked at him with awe and adoration. They were here out of respect for him and love for Anna. She turned away from the window and went to the bed where Aiden was sleeping, brushing her hand across his forehead. He mumbled something inaudible and shuffled slightly, but he did not wake up. She sighed sadly, wondering what the medical personnel were going to make of this. Aiden was not entirely in a coma. He responded to touch, and she had seen his flicker in his eyelids when Mitch had whispered something in his ear a few hours ago. It was just like he was in a deep slumber without being able to wake up. She imagined it to be like he was trapped in his own body.“If only your mother were here,“ she muttered in a small voice. “She would know what to do to bring you back.“ Lorna spoke gently to herself. She sighed and leaned in to kiss Aiden's forehead. She felt very connected

I hope we will be able to put aside your differences and work together.“The hall was silent for the next few seconds, so Mitch continued, “And they brought some weapons to give us an added advantage,“ he said.“We will be fighting with weapons now?“ Sil asked, astonished, “Like the humans?“Mitch cocked his head and nodded. “I'm afraid so,“ he said. “We need

Mitch looked around at the nods of agreement around the table.Mitch snorted.“We got the news that we had guests.“ a fat man muttered. “Guest. Warriors from another pack. As if the military in this kingdom is not enough.““So it means there is a heavy war coming,“ Sil said. She paused and continued, “A war that would mean we are accepting help from other inland packs.“A ripple of murmuring went round the pack again.“It is not just any inland pack,“ Mitch said. “They are from the red moon pack.
