THEY STOOD THERE on the sandy hill for hours, waiting for the witches to finish what they were doing.

"We could just go in there and scatter the up," Alice said.

Vorenus looked at the sky and nodded, "I hate to agree with her, but she is right. We have been standing here for over 3 hours. The sun will be up soon."

But Vladimir stood, unmoving, his eyes fixated on the group of women down below. What were they doing? He wondered.

"The sun will come up in another hour and then..." Vorenus continued.

"Is this all the men you have?" Vladimir asked. The first thing he had said in hours.

Vorenus shook his head, "No, but these are the oldest Fledglings I could find."

"Well, you will make more," Vladimir said in a cold voice, "That is what you are good at anyway." His tone was final, so Vorenus stepped back with a grumble. He looked around; the whole place was filled with almost 30 vampires; all were fidgety because the sun was rising slowly, but they could not go - not until they were given
