Chapter 17

Hazel's father left her alone in the living room.

"Let's go, Nathalie," Steven said, and I just followed and trusted him. He is wiser in solving the maze-like hallways of this mansion.

We were about to go to the other side when we bumped into Hazel. She shrieked when she saw me, but I immediately clamped my hand over her mouth to stifle her voice.

"Nathalie!"

Hazel and I pulled into a warm embrace.

She cried in my arms and said, "I'm so sorry for betraying you! I felt so guilty that I couldn't sleep every night. When I went to your house, your mother said that you were missing and the authorities have been trying to find you. They were suspecting Professor Evan of kidnapping you because you were last seen with him!"

I gasped and turned to Steven, who swallowed a lump in his throat and looked guilty.

"Professor Evan?" Hazel asked, confusion etched on her face. "What is he doing here? My father said you were one of the captured victims of theirs. Does that mean... "
