Cassius’ POV “I need to see Maximus. Tell him to come to the palace.” I ordered Landon, who bowed slightly in submission and walked out of the palace. It’s been two days since Selene and Garret were hanged at the center of the pack house. I am now left alone without a Luna and a beta. I have ordered Maximus to be released from the dungeon since I found out that he didn’t commit the crime he was accused of. I just need to make amends and plead with him about not trusting him enough, even though we were somewhat close back then. “My Alpha,” he bowed his head with his hands clasped behind his back. “Sit,” I said softly, pointing to a couch across from me. And he sat without hesitation. “Max” is the short form of his name and what my father and I always call him. He raised his head as he heard me call him. “My alpha,” he responded.“I am sorry for everything. I meant everything that happened. For not hearing your side of the story and all.” It wasn’t normal for an Alpha to ask for
Cassius’ POV~~“Dear esteemed member of the Wolfsong Dominion pack,” a loud cheer erupted from the pack members as I looked down to them on the podium of the assembly ground. “You all witnessed the deaths of my Luna, Selena, and my beta, Garret,” I said to them. "Yes, Alpha,” a few of them responded. “You all know that their positions are now vacant, and we would need someone to fill those positions, as it is very essential that we have them in the pack,” I announced in a low but serious tone. A hushed silence fell over the crowd as they stared at me with curiosity evident in their expressions. “Well, the right person for the position of beta was Gamma Maximus, but since he has been away due to a crime he knew nothing about, he has been released and will be reinstated back to his position once the required ceremony has been done,” I added. “For the position of the Luna,” I paused and darted my eyes around the young she-wolves who hadn't met their mate. They seemed to be excited
Callista’s POV~~ Living as a lone wolf in the wilderness with Shaman Magnus Spirit Forge was like a blessing from the moon goddess. Yes, the man who owns the hut I am living in is a shaman; at least that was what he told me, and I believed him because I don’t have any reason whatsoever to doubt him. How he got to know that I was pregnant with a pup without being told was one of the reasons I have to believe him, plus he has been brewing some concoctions for me to drink, which he said would be good for my unborn pup. “Are you ready? Let’s go,” Magnus Spirit Forge called out to me from outside the hut. We were preparing to go hunting for food that we would use to survive here in the woods. "Yes, Shaman, I am ready,” I responded, picking up some bags we would use to gather the foods. He had told me that he would not be able to leave me behind in the hut because it was dangerous for me to be alone since I can’t even perceive any scent that would make me know if an enemy was around. He
Callista’s POV~~We’ve gotten enough fruits, nuts, and meat that would serve us for a few days, and now we are headed back to the hut, and it is just a stone throne to where we’ve gotten to right now. “Should I help you out?” Shaman Magnus stretched his hands to take the bag that was hung on my shoulder, where the nut was filled. “But you are also carrying one.” I gestured with my head to the other bag he was carrying. “It’s not that heavy. I can take both,” he responded. "No, you don’t have to. You are old and need to do less of this work,” I said to him. “Old?” He halted and said it in a manner that sounded like he was a bit shocked that I had called him that. He laughed loudly, throwing his head back as his laughter echoed through the forest. “Look who you called old.” He dropped the bag from his shoulder and flung his arms and feet to show me that he was fit. I smiled at his childish display. “You really seemed so fit,” I teased. “I hope it isn’t that you are making a joke
Lily’s POV~~I know you would think I was wicked and evil. Yes, I know you might want to nail me for poisoning Luna Callista, but trust me, I wasn't. I loved her as my Luna and as a friend; there was nothing that would make me think of poisoning her. No way would I think of such an evil act. I felt miserable and powerless when I couldn’t prove them otherwise that night. I don’t have a choice. I had to do it, and I did. I drank from the glass that they claimed I had poisoned. After downing the whole content in my throat down to my stomach, they felt I was good and okay on the outside, but deep down within me, I was burning. The poison was destroying my intestines and eating me up. It was so true that there was poison in the glass, but I didn’t poison the glass. I was totally innocent. The only thing I knew that night in my conscious state was that I slumped to the ground like a dead horse. I thought I was dead and it was going to be the end of Lily Brody, but I was wrong. Someone sa
Callista’s POV~~ “Oh, my fucking moon goddess,” I jumped up from the vine I was sitting on and spranged my full weight on Lily. I was so full of joy, and at the same time, I was surprised that she was still alive. We were there in each other’s embrace for what seemed like eternity. I pulled away from the hug and held the tips of her hands in my hands, scrutinizing my eyes around her body. I dropped her hands and turned around to look at her. At the same time I was happy to see her, I was also pinching myself to see if I was a reality. I was thinking we were in moon goddess heaven, but looking at Shaman Magnus, who was staring at us in a confused and awed manner, I knew this was real life. She wasn’t dead all along, but how come? “How? I thought you were dead.” I spoke up when I couldn’t mask my curiosity any more.Lily just stood still, shocked and confused, just as I was. Her mouth was so wide open that spit would start coming out of it in no time. “What happened? How did you get
Back at the Wolfsong Dominion PackCassius POV~~I felt like a horse was raving inside of me with excitement. I have been so happy for the past three days ever since the guard came to tell me that they didn’t execute Callista as they had been ordered. The thoughts of her getting killed in the woods settled in, but I shrugged it off. I still have a glimmer of hope that I am going to see her and ask for her forgiveness. I need to send out a hunter-wolf to look for her and bring her back to the pack. Even if she doesn’t want to come, I would go meet her wherever she might be and ask her to come back to the pack. “Max, what do you think?” My gaze turned to Maximus, who was sitting directly opposite me at my office in the Alpha’s palace. “My Alpha, it’s a nice idea. There are still probabilities that she might have been saved by neighboring packs. Since we are the heads of all the packs here, we can send out an official message to the Alpha to ask them if they have taken in a stranger
Callista’s POV~~“Are you guys ready? We need to go now; we are out of food.” Shaman Magnus called the attention of both Lily and me, waiting for us to join him outside the hut as he was set to go hunting. “We will be out soon!” Lily shouted from the other room as we were getting ready for the hunt. A minute later, Lily and I came out of the hut to meet Shaman Magnus outside, where he was waiting for us. “Let’s go that direction today,” he pointed to the direction where I took to the hut that night I escaped from the Midnight Mirage pack. “But shaman,” I paused and looked up at him. “That means we will be going near the midnight Mirage pack,” I said, sounding a bit unhappy. I heard Lily chuckle at my display of worries. “We won’t be going near our pack,” Lily responded instead of Shaman Magnus that I had faced. “Plus, it would take longer hours to get to your former pack, so we won’t reach it at all,” Shaman Magnus added, which made me feel a bit less nervous than usual. “Okay
