Callista’s POV
I raised my head to look at the person walking through the door of the medical cabin. I felt the scent from that time in the woods. It is him, my mate. Our eyes locked.
He is a tall, lean man with shaved hair, piercing blue eyes, and an imposing demeanor. He has short blonde hair, a well-defined jawline, high cheekbones, and a fit frame.
I peeked at him from head to toe; his biceps were significantly defined. He is around six feet and some inches tall.
Any lady in her right sense could swoon over him.
“He is damn hotter than Cassius Ironclaw,” my wolf, Maya, mind-linked.
“Yes, he is,” I grinned, mind-linking.
The moon goddess has gotten me the perfect mate. Bingo!
I diverted my gaze back to his eyes. He looked weary and disturbed. I guessed he was not happy.
“What’s your name? My Luna,” my mate asked with a small smile at the corner of his lips, breaking the chain of thought that I thought had been going on for over five minutes, but in reality, it was just a few seconds.
I gulped and squinted my eyes. “Callista Stone,” I responded.
“I am Tristan Logan. The Alpha of the Midnight Mirage Pack”
My eyes widened as I raised my brow in shock upon hearing the name of the pack. The Midnight Mirage pack is a rival pack to the Wolfsong Dominion pack.
They are always in conflict with my pack.
How is it possible my mate will be from here?
This shouldn’t be happening. Why is the moon goddess so cruel?
She always brings something to disrupt my happiness.
“I will introduce you to the pack members in a few days,” he said, paused, and looked into my worried eyes. “But there is something I want you to know,” he added, sounding very worried this time as he moved closer to me on the bed, where I was sitting with my back resting on the wall.
“Get prepared to have a duel with my delta.”.
My heart skipped a bit.
What? Is he mad?
Doesn’t he know I'm an Omega? with no strength to even fight the weakest wolf in the pack.
“I know you are an Omega, but it's a tradition that I can't defy,” he replied, like he was reading my mind as a matter of fact.
“I’m weak,” I lamented under my cracked voice.
“Let’s hope she doesn’t challenge you for the position anytime she comes.”
“What if she does?” I asked worriedly.
“You will take the challenge,” he replied slowly, not wanting to instill fear in me.
I could feel he didn't want me to have a duel with the Delta, but there was nothing he could do.
He cupped my cheeks in his hand. “I will have my beta train you for a few days before she comes.”
“Will a few days of training make me win against a highly skilled fighter?” I quizzed, not sounding satisfied.
“It won’t, but I know what to do, Callista,” he responded reassuringly.
I hope he does know what to do.
Having my mate in the rival pack isn’t enough. Now I will be having a duel with their best warrior. The moon goddess isn't treating me nicely.
I thought I had found someone I had been longing to meet, only for her to create obstacles for me.
I was deeply in thought when I felt his hand on my chin, cleaning the tears flowing down my soft cheeks.
I can feel my wolf isn’t happy either; she is not talking to me.
The whole world is against us.
“I will sort it; don’t get worked up, my Luna.” He sounded okay, but I knew he wasn’t; I could feel it within me, maybe because he is my mate.
He offered me his hands and took my hands in his as he helped me to my feet from the bed. The sparks within us were stronger; I could feel it. If this is how two mates fated together feel, then it is great. I must say.
He gently helped me out of bed.
“Careful, okay?” He looked concerned after I almost tripped.
"Sure,” I replied, giving him a sheepish smile.
We walked hand in hand from the medical cabin to the pack house, which was some distance away. As we walked closer, I could feel different scents in my nostrils; my heightened senses were in overdrive; I could perceive all the scents, hear their heartbeat, and see clearly through the dark like it was the day. I guessed those scents were from the pack members.
Even though I was happy to be a Luna after what I had gone through in Wolfsong Dominion Pack, I was sad at the same time because the position wasn’t certain yet.
A battle for the Luna position.
***
Five days later,
I have been having a series of intense training sessions with Tristan's beta, Andrian, and most often Tristan himself.
Even though I wasn't that perfect, I was able to learn the basics, which I could use to defend myself.
Learning the basics doesn't mean I have a chance with Delta Elowen, but do I have a choice?
I guessed that's what fate has bestowed upon me—the responsibilities I have to carry and the pains I have to undergo.
The pack members had gathered in the conference room, where they had their meetings. I will be introduced to the pack members today as their 'Luna Natura'.
“My Luna,” my wolf, Maya, growled excitedly, even though we both have been going through a lot these days, but I guessed we were happy today.
Beta Andrian walked up to the podium as Tristan and I stood behind the stage.
My heartbeat increased, but suddenly I felt Tristan's hand on mine, which sent a tingling sensation from my hand to the whole of my body. I was a little bit at ease.
“Great people of the Midnight Mirage pack, I can see with the expression on your faces that you all are curious to know why our Lord, Alpha Tristan Logan, had summoned you to this impromptu meeting,” Andrian explained in his usual masculine voice.
“The reason for this meeting is for the growth of our pack." Andrian continued to ease the stress on the pack members' faces.
“Let's all stand up for Alpha Tristan Logan, as he will be coming to address us shortly.” Andrian finished his statement and stepped aside for Tristan to come on the podium.
We were still holding hands; he didn't want to let go, and neither did I. The feeling was intense; I hadn't felt like this in years.
“Cally, everything will be fine,” he stated before he went to the podium.
Everywhere was dead silent as the pack members stopped their murmuring when they saw Tristan walk to the podium.
“Great people of the Midnight Mirage pack, I know, and I can see that you are a bit tensed up as to why I summoned you all,” Tristan paused. “As my beta had said earlier, it is for the growth of our pack.”
“As you all know, I have my beta, Andrian,” he gestured towards him. “My gamma, Alec,” he gestured towards him, who was on the left-hand side. He was standing in between Adrian and Alec. “And you have me as your Alpha,” he said, placing his right hand on his left chest.
“But there is one position that is vacant and also very important." This made cold shivers run down my spine. “And as you all know, a king without his queen means the position in leadership is not complete, and it is the same for an Alpha without his Luna.” Noises erupted from the crowd as they heard Luna. “As our rules say, once the Alpha can't find his mate, a Delta will assume the position, and we have our Delta, Elowen Dean." A smug look crossed his face as he mentioned the name.
“I am pleased to announce to you tonight that I have found my mate, the fated Luna, the one chosen by the Moon goddess.” He paused and looked back in my direction.
My nervousness meter just racked up the scale again. My heart is pounding like it's about to explode.
“My Luna, you got this; remember, I'm here with you,” my wolf, Maya, whimpered in my head, which calmed me down a little bit.
“Welcome on stage, your 'Luna Natura', Callista Stone." Tristan finished with a smile on his face.
At the mention of my name, I took a deep breath and walked slowly to where the trio was standing.
I could see the looks on the pack members' faces; some were happy, some gazed with scorn, and some were confused.
“You got this, Cally,” Tristan said encouragingly, grabbing my hand as I walked majestically to where he was standing.
I gave him a small smile and stood beside him, holding his hand tightly. I felt safe beside him.
“According to our tradition, if there are other she-wolves that are willing to challenge Luna for her position, they should speak now or forever hold their peace,” Tristan said authoritatively in his Alpha voice.
There was a pin-drop silence for a few seconds, but not until someone stood up among the members.
"I, Nicole Maxwell, a warrior of the Midnight Mirage Pack, challenge Luna Natura for the position of Luna.” She sat as soon as she finished.
"I, Abigail Tobias, a warrior of the Midnight Mirage Pack, challenge Luna Natura for the position of Luna." Another pack member declared.
My heart became heavy as I clenched my fist on Tristan's own.
Warriors are challenging a wimpy Omega like me.
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I held them, not trying to reveal my vulnerability.
"I, Elowen Dean, challenge Luna Natura for the position of Luna.”
The lady's voice broke my train of thought as I raised my head to see the young, petite lady, with waist-length copper hair packed into a ponytail, standing at one end of the room. She was wearing a smiley face. She isn’t tall or too short either; you know that kind of height now? She has a pair of silvery eyes. “How would a spineless Omega be our Luna?” A wicked smirk curled up on her lips. “How is she going to protect the pack?”
Oh, moon goddess! She knows.
A look of disappointment flushed through the pack members' faces.
Geez! She knows I am an Omega.
“This isn't going to be easy for us,” my wolf, Maya, growled.
Three skilled warriors are challenging a wimpy Omega.
It sure is not going to be easy.
Back at the Wolfsong Dominion PackCassius’s POVIt’s been exactly five days since Dahlia died. I couldn't bring myself to believe that she was brutally murdered in the Pack cell, but since she is just an omega under a cloud, her death didn’t bother any of us that much, although it all seemed like a mystery to me.I stepped out of the pack house, savoring the freshness of the atmosphere that came from the woods. The pack members are all seated around their fireplaces, not very far from each of their cabins, under the canopies of ancient towering trees, which were incorporated into framing and windows, revealing a connection to the wood where we took abode. Our environment is very serene; its serenity only lasts when there is peace. The serenity is likely fleeting because, as werewolves, we are always drawn to conflict and danger. For the past few years, I think we have been at peace with our neighboring packs. As powerful as the Wolfsong Dominion Pack might be, the least we could wish
Callista's POVTristan walked out of the stage with rage; I could feel it. If there is a way of defying the rules and traditions of the pack, he would possibly do it, but unfortunately, there isn't. “Tomorrow… will… you fight?” Tristan asked haltingly with a worried tone. He wasn't happy with the turn of events. He was expecting Elowen to be the only challenger, but since they all know I'm an Omega, they couldn't let the opportunity slip off. “Sure, I would. What's an Alpha without his Luna?” I responded with a grin, trying not to reveal that I was afraid of the duel. “I don't want to lose you,” he said with sincerity in his voice. “I will be fine,” I assured him, even though I knew I couldn't be fine against three skilled warriors. Fighting them consecutively, no rest. Without warning, he pulled me closer and planted a kiss on my soft, pink lips. My heart flushed, making shivers run down my body like it was my first, but it wasn't. He feasted on my lips like his life depended
Callista’s POV Her long hair cascades down in shimmering strands, and on her neck is silvery jewelry. A serene smile appears on her face. She is a beautiful and enchanting being. Her gaze looks like it holds the secrets of the universe as her golden-brown eyes bore into my hazel eyes, even though I am scared to describe what her face looks like.“Oh, you daughter of the soil!” Her soothing, calming, and melodic voice echoes, snapping me out of the trance I was in. What does she mean by daughter of the soil? I tried opening my mouth to speak, but I couldn’t. She walks closer, each step sending a warm, calming, and soothing sensation down my body, her presence illuminating the night sky. She possesses a celestial aura. She is the moon goddess!. “Callista!” The moon goddess called, her voice echoing loudly. “Yes, moon goddess,” I responded calmly. “Go and conquer your enemies!” Her voice reeks of power and authority. “How am I supposed to do that?” I asked amidst tears, rememberi
Callista’s POV“You do know I was knocked out, right?” I turned my gaze to Tristan, who was walking beside me as we set out to the Alpha’s house. “Yes,” he said, nodding acceptably. “The moon goddess told me to use my wolf.” I continued enjoying the moment of the walk. "Okay,” he stressed, wanting to hear more of the story. “She tapped my forehead, and I regained consciousness,” I explained in detail to Tristan, who was paying rapt attention to me. “Wow!” He exclaimed. “If someone else had told me this, I wouldn’t have believed it,” he teased, covering his mouth from letting out a laugh. “That’s the truth anyway.” I giggled. It took us about twenty minutes before we got to the Alpha’s house, which was located at the far end of the pack. It is the largest and most beautiful of the houses in the pack, maybe because it is where the Alpha resides.I would say I saw most of the houses here during my tour around the pack when I first came in after being introduced to other pack memb
Tristan’s POV After I had marked my mate, the next ritual that would follow was the running ceremony. It is a ritual that must be performed because that's how it has been done even before I was born. You know, like a tradition that dates back generations. It is during this ceremony that werewolves who don't have a mate and can’t wait for their fated mate, probably because they felt they had waited for too long, would be asked to choose a mate during some activities after the run. “Tell me more about this running ceremony,” Callista demanded, her lips protruding in a sulky pout. “You really seem eager to know,” I giggled, tauntingly. “As the Luna of this pack, that I am,” she paused and squared her shoulders arrogantly as a small smile appeared at the corner of her lips. “Don’t you think there are things I need to know?” She stated it with a wide grin. “Okay, since you insisted, your highness,” I teased, succumbing to her anxiousness. "Yes, my lord, I’m all ears.” I burst into a
Elowen’s POVI winced slightly while holding my head with my eyes shut as I felt a sharp pain course through my body while trying to sit upright on the small bed in our pack healer’s cabin. The scent of herbal medicines filled my nostrils. I glanced nervously around the room, only to sighed in resignation when I found no one in there with me. The last thing I remembered was Callista getting up a few minutes after I had knocked her out, then her wolf attacked me, digging her fangs deep in my neck area while I struggled to break free so I could shift into my wolf and fight back, but all my efforts seemed futile. I had noticed darkness consumed my vision and consciousness, drastically slipping away from me as I fell and slumped on the floor. She really caught me off guard. Ouch! My head hurts as I try to recall the fiasco of that day. “Oh, you are awake.” I raised my head to hear the voice that was about to enter the cabin. It was our pack’s healer, Ragnar Titan. He is a middle-aged
Lily’s POV~~ I couldn’t believe it. Beta Andrian’s wolf is light brown, with soft and fluffy fur nipping at mine. I felt a rush of adrenaline, and my stomach was twirling with excitement, loving the butterflies that were swarming in my stomach. Even though I was in my wolf form, I was on cloud nine, floating with happiness and excitement. Since the night after the moonlight chase, we have always spent time together. The Alpha was also busy with our Luna Natura, each of us enjoying our newly found love. “Are you sure you are okay, Delta?” I asked when I noticed she was far gone in her thoughts."Yeah, I’m okay.” She responded, flashing me a fake smile. I could see sadness weighing heavy on her face like a stone sinking in the ocean. I can’t tell if she was jealous of what I had told her earlier about Beta Adrian and me or because she had lost the Alpha to someone else. She had always joked and talked about being the pack’s Luna Natura during our combat training sessions, but it's so
Callista’s POV~~My one and only Alpha and his Beta, Andrian, had taken a break from the pack’s work because they were both having a good time with their newly found love, Lily and I. Being with Tristan is like an electrifying thrill that I never want to end. He is so caring, loving, and fun to be with. “Don’t you think we need to go check up on Elowen? And find out how she is doing,” I asked my one and only Alpha, who was seated on a sofa adjacent to the bed I was sitting on in our bedroom. He raised his head and shot me a sultry smile, then continued with some magazines he was reading. “I’m at your service, your highness,” he said, his gaze still fixed on the magazine he was holding. “Babe, just stop it and look at me,” I complained, my face contorted with a frown, making my lips protrude in a sulky pout. He giggled. ”I know what you want,” he responded, as he stood up from the sofa and headed towards the bed where I was. I raised my brow. “What?” My stomach churns with anxiet
Cassius POV Callista's words hung heavy in the air, thick and suffocating. My daughter, Jessica, the little firecracker with eyes that mirrored the summer sky, was mine. A pup I hadn't known existed, a piece of me ripped away and hidden for years.Anger, hot and burning, threatened to consume me. How could she keep this from me? All those nights spent yearning for a family and a connection, and she'd had it all along. The years of longing and the emptiness that gnawed at me—a constant reminder of the love I'd lost—were all a lie? I clenched and unclenched my fists, the urge to roar ripping through me. But the sight of Jessica, oblivious to the storm brewing within me, choked the sound back. Her innocent smile, so full of trust, held me captive. My anger simmered, a low growl escaping my throat.Callista flinched, her eyes pleading for understanding. But understanding is a distant speck on the horizon right now. All I saw was the betrayal and the years stolen from me. I know I caused
Callista’s POV"Cassius... " His name escaped my lips like a sweet moan, making him groan in response. I gasped after I realized my action, and a blush crept up my face. "I... didn't mean... to... umm," but before I could finish my statement, he grabbed me by the waist and his gaze darkened. "Say it." His voice came out in a husky manner, making my bodily hair stand out. A weird sensation made me rub my tights together as the warmth spread. "Say it." He urged me again, making me feel a little hesitant. He looked totally different from how he was a few minutes ago. I felt our bodies collide after he pulled me closer and nibbled on my collar bone in a seductive manner. "Say my name once more." He smirked, and before I could react, he slammed his lips against mine a little roughly and lifted me up at the same time. Before I could comprehend what was going on, I was already on the bed with his weight resting on me, but his lips never parted from mine. A moan escaped my lips, but that di
Callista’s POVHe rushed forward, his embrace almost choking the air out of me. The familiar scent of pine and woodsmoke surrounded me, a scent that had watched out for me during the just-concluded battle; maybe it was then that the connection surged back. I couldn't say, but it felt good to be back home and to be in his arms again. He pulled away, his gaze still locked on mine. But then, his eyes traveled past me and landed on Jessica. The smile on his face dissipated, replaced by a frown etched with confusion. His brow furrowed at her as if trying to understand something. "Who is this?" he asked, his voice low and gruff. “And he?” he gestured towards Shaman Magnus. My heart pounded against my chest. This was it. The moment of truth. Taking a deep breath, I kneeled before Jessica, her innocent face beaming up at me and her blue eyes radiating energy. "Jessica," I began, my voice barely above a whisper. "This is your father, Cassius, Alpha of the Wolf Song Dominion Pack, whom you hav
Callista’s POVAs the pack slowly dispersed, the weight of the moment finally settled on my shoulders. Leaving wasn't just about duty or forging a new path; it was about confronting the past, about mending the fractured bond with Tristan and Cassius. Taking a deep breath, I approached him. The air crackled with unspoken emotions—a tangible tension that stretched between us. "Tristan," I began, my voice barely above a whisper. He met my gaze, his blue eyes searching mine. "Callista," he replied, his voice rough with emotion. “I am sorry.” His tone was low and soft. I gave him a small smile. “We can’t duel in the past; I have forgiven you wholeheartedly,” I responded as a matter of fact. “I shouldn’t have broken the bond back then,” he said with a regret-filled voice. “It's fine. I just hope you understand the path I have chosen and my decision,” my voice carrying a newfound strength.“Callista,” I heard Lily calling from behind, which made me whip my head in the direction of her vo
Callista’s POVTristan stood before me, the shackles gone but the weight of his imprisonment still etched on his face. A tense silence hung heavy in the air, broken only by the movement and murmurs of my pack members. The decision clawed at me, a battle between duty and a yearning I couldn't quite define. Taking a deep breath, I addressed my assembled pack members, their faces a sea of curiosity and unease. The murmurs of my pack rose in the tense silence, a hint of disapproval and confusion. I could feel Andrian's gaze burning into me, my beta and closest confidante. Would he understand this unexpected turn of events? Could he see, as I did, the flicker of a man yearning for redemption amidst the ruins of his past?"We have a prisoner of vengeance no more," I announced, my voice ringing with authority. The word tasted like ashes in my mouth. A collective gasp rippled through the crowd, a wave of shock that mirrored my own turmoil. "Tristan will no longer be held captive within our wa
Callista’s POV “Mommy!" Jessica’s arms wrapped tightly around my waist, burying her face in my stomach. Relief washed over me, bittersweet and sharp. "Where did you go? Aunt Lily said you left to kill big bad wolves!" I chuckled, the sound raspy. "Not exactly, sweetheart. I went to help Alpha Cassius and his pack. They needed a little… assistance." Jessica tilted her head back, peering up at me with wide, worried eyes. The resemblance to Cassius, with her sharp jaw and frame, was uncanny. But her eyes—those held a warmth Cassius never possessed, but of mine. "Did you get hurt, Mommy?" Her tiny hand reached up to touch a bruise blooming on my arm. Guilt gnawed at me. Leaving Jessica, even for a war I couldn't ignore, felt like a betrayal. "Just a few scratches, honey bee. Nothing a good night's sleep won't fix." I kneeled before her, forcing a smile. Jessica’s concern was a stark reminder of the responsibility I bore—to her, to my pack, and yes, even to Cassius, her father. But un
Cassius’ POV“Alpha, they are subduing us at the south border!" A fear-painted link echoed through my head, a glaring contrast to the ringing silence that had just descended on the clearing. Callista flinched beside me, her eyes wide with alarm. Pain flared in my shoulder, a throbbing reminder of the fight, but it was nothing compared to the sudden surge of fear that just coursed through me. "Shit! Let's go to the south border!" I roared the command, adrenaline masking the ache in my body. I scrambled to my feet, ignoring the way the world tilted for a moment.Callista was already moving; a black, brown, and white hybrid was disappearing into the trees. I pushed myself after her, pushing through the pain and the fear of a hot coal in my gut. We raced through the undergrowth, the pounding of paws echoing through the forest floor. As we broke through the trees and twigs, the scene that greeted us was one of chaos and goriness. Our warriors, outnumbered and caught off guard, were being
Cassius’ POV“What spell?” I raised a quizzical brow. “Watch out for it. Let’s move now!” She ran off towards the woods while the remaining warriors ran after her without answering my questions. As the pouncing from the woods became heavier and nearer, a realization dawned on me about what she said. Most of the packs in the North are joining forces against us. This is going to be a long night. “Shit!” I yelled and ran after her. We came to a halt when we caught sight of two groups of enemies pouncing forward in our direction. “These are two packs here,” I said immediately as I caught up with her. “Yeah, maybe they split up,” she nodded. “Attack!” she growled loudly as the earth trembled beneath our feet. The air crackles with anticipation, and the scent of fur thickens in my nostrils. The full moon hangs like a giant, watchful eye in the sky, casting the battlefield in an eerie silver light. Howls erupt from both sides. A scream of rage reverberates across the forest.Callista s
Callista’s POV The news of my arrival sparked a fire in the entire pack. Nervousness hung heavy in the air, but it was mixed with fierce determination. Young and old warriors gathered on the training ground, their eyes blazing with fighting spirit.I felt anger brewing up in me when Cassius’ gamma told me he asked me to come into his office. I had planned on how to trash him with words, but as I got in, his gaze made those thoughts fly away. A part of me craves him, and another part is pushing me away, but whichever part it is, I don’t think I would listen to anyone if it were. I just have to go ahead with what I came here to do and push those feelings aside. We can’t be on the battleground with emotions flying around. It would make either of us lose concentration. A frustrated groan escaped my lips. Had I traveled all this way, defying logic and reason, just to be on the receiving end of his teasing and flirtation? “I can do anything I want; this isn’t the Callista from years ago
