Ruby's POV

The knock on my door the next morning disrupted the uneasy sleep I had fallen into the previous night. I groggily got up, still weary from the events that had transpired in the dungeon with Ethan. As I reached the door, I hesitated for a moment, my hand hovering over the handle. I couldn't predict who was behind that door, and I wasn't sure I was ready to face it.

But with a resigned sigh, I opened the door, revealing the figure of my mother. Her expression held a mixture of concern and relief, and I couldn't help but feel a slight pang of guilt for not having reached out to her earlier.

"Ruby," she said, her voice gentle yet worried. "May I come in?"

I nodded and stepped aside, allowing her to enter my room. She walked in and took a moment to observe her surroundings, her eyes briefly flicking over the guards stationed at my door.
