"Ah, here you are," Declan calls me, flashing a fat smile as I join him in the dining room. "You missed Oona, she just left for school. And she asked about you.""Aww, I've been missing breakfasts with her for a while now," I replied, making a face."Yeah," Declan replies. "How are you, Pretty?"I shrug, "I'm perfect, Bones."The sound of the door behind us announced the presence of the other Howling men."Alpha." Declan greets rising to his feet. I did the same and when Gaston takes his seat, we all follow suit.Clifton is wearing an icy mask today. A mask I'm now officially used to; 'Fire and Ice' a perfect description of Clifton Howling. You just never know the version of him you'll meet today or the day after."Keeping her all to yourself, eh, Bones?" Dion teases."Ah, look at kettle calling dark names. Who spent twenty years with her yesterday." Declan asks. "Did you have fun with Diony, my Love?" He turns to me."Yes," I wh~Xyana~Once we get into Gaston's SUV. I shut my eyes and let out a breath I had no idea I was holding back all along. When I reopen it, I lean back into my seat and settle my eyes over the beautiful landscapes that I find slightly familiar after yesterday's outing with Dion.Gaston is absorbed with his phone again. Whatever it is he's doing with his phone these days must be quite important and inevitable. Suddenly, he rubs his forehead and sighs deeply like he's completely exhausted. “Are you alright, Xyana?”I turn to him with a smile. "Oh, I'm so eager to meet the pack members. I've been looking forward to this day for a while now. Thank you so much for this opportunity."Lifting his gaze to me, he frowns. “That’s not what I'm asking. Is there something you want to tell me?”I shake my head instantly, feigning ignorance, but I guess my shaky fingers blow my cover. “I don’t know what you mean, Alpha.”He shot me a very serious glare that made
~Xyana~We walk back leisurely, and I listen to Mona attentively as she explains the organization of the square to me. She went through the sitting arrangements, and we had to halt at a point to get a clear understanding of her explanations with the help of the illustrated plan on her tablet. An hour later, I was completely exhausted. Adina had arrived with my breakfast earlier and insisted on waiting on the meal until I was ready to eat. After eating, I listened to Mona go on and on about the preparations, and when she was done, I got to understand where it might have gone wrong. The focus of her plan is on the seating arrangement and lighting, which isn't bad, but It could be adjusted. Reducing the lightening and instead, introducing soft lights. Since it's a marking ceremony, soft light will offer mates some privacy. Besides, we are werewolves, so it's okay to mark and maybe fuck our mates during the mating ceremony, which would be a full moon night too
~Xyana~When we get home, Dion leads me to my room on Gaston's floor as he gives me the top gist about a couple of the pack members. We arrive at my room; he stops at the door, a sad smile on his face. "It feels so good to see you happy, Sunshine." He says, touching my cheeks gently. "I hope you have a lovely evening with Bones."I clear my throat, "thank you." I say, kissing his finger on my cheek. We just stand there staring lovingly at each other while I enjoy the hell out of his scent. After a few seconds or minutes, I can't be too sure. He shakes his head, grinning. "Oh, looks like you want to eat me up with those eyes." He jokes, laughing lowly. He plants a kiss on my forehead and says; "I want to stay right here with you, but I have to really go. The Alpha gave me a couple of assignments to carry out. But I took out time to check on you since it was your first time going to the construction site.""Thank you for always caring about me. See you l
~Xyana~Stepping out of my room, I head straight downstairs and run into an Omega along the hallway. She directs me to Clifton's office and I head outside the pack house. Shielding my eyes from the fading rays of the evening sun, I turn the curve to the same complex building where Gaston's office is located.I pass the large living room and take the stairs to the first floor which brings me to a door with the tag; 'Beta Clifton.' My heart beats into my throat and I gulp down before knocking. He calls me in from behind the door and when I step inside, it is obvious that he isn't expecting to see me. But he immediately wipes the shocked expression from his face and clears his throat."What are you doing here?" He asks."Umm... The Alpha sent me."He stares at me, a deep scowl on his face. But I continue speaking. "He says you should reply to his mails immediately, and I should treat the message as urgent.""I just replied to his mail," Clifton tell
~Xyana~“I'll tell my mates, I'll start with Declan, tonight," I tell Clifton. "And for your information, if they reject me, get ready to be rejected by me too,” I whisper and start heading to the door."Never!" Clifton yells. "You can never reject me."Inhaling sharply, I wipe my eyes before the tears can fall and turn around to see Clifton standing right beside me. 'How did he do that?' A frown has replaced his arrogant expression as he looks at me.“What?” I ask, my voice shaking embarrassingly. He adjusts his weight onto his other leg as he clicks his tongue. “I'm not asking you to tell them because I want to punish you, I'm asking you to tell them because they deserve to know the truth. And even though I might be praying that they take it so badly and it ends with rejection, it doesn't make me evil or a villain.”“Ha,” I breathe out, letting my arms slump to my sides. “Go fuck yourself, Clifton!”He smiles, "I like it when you try to act me
~Xyana~Dion had gotten lots of lovely outfits for me the other day and although I still don't feel like the most beautiful girl in the world when I wear them, I don't feel so ugly anymore. Not with Mona making sure I wear an outfit that compliments my body type.By the time we got done with me, I couldn't recognize myself anymore. I look like I just got out of a stylish beauty-trained box. I twirl in front of my dressing mirror and watch the crystals on my dress glow effortlessly. My face is shining, so beautiful with the lush and soft makeup Mona applied on it, and my hair feels soft like rich-fluffy-expensive-fur. My skin feels like butter."I look so different." I exhale staring lovingly at myself."I'm glad you approve," Mona replies, giddy with excitement. "I can't wait to hear everything tomorrow. You owe me that much tomorrow." He says pointing at me. "Don't forget.""I'll tell you what I can." I chuckle."I'll find a way to make you tell me
~Xyana~I silently curse myself as I see the blue twirls in Declan's eyes disappearing. He seems to have perceived the change in the atmosphere as his expression gets replaced with a worried look.Maybe I shouldn't tell him. I could just tell him a convenient lie and hope he doesn't find out. But that would be unfair. As my mate, he deserves to know the truth. Clearing my throat, I rub my palms together, making him look at me even more worried. “Is everything alright?”“Uhh? Of course,” I answer, forcing a smile. After taking a big gulp of my red wine, I start speaking. "I was young when it happened. My father died during one of the numerous wars between our pack and some of their rivals." I swallowed air, terrified of the things I was going to say. "My mom couldn't bear the loss. She was one of the pack's biggest surgeons at the time. But after my father's death, everything went downhill. Her surgeries were becoming terrible and she had to pause at a poin
~Xyana~"Listen," Declan starts, "I don't know what you were expecting me to say to you, Xyana.” He sighs, throwing his napkin on his plate. "Your wolf may forever not connect with ours, and that is such terrible news. And then there are other things you said."I gasp audibly at the impact his words have on me. When was the last time he called me by name? Has he ever called me by name? My stomach turned at the sound of my name from him, making me want to empty it's contents onto our beautifully decorated meal table.I should have kept in mind that these men are powerful. They must have thought Juno would come around eventually. Now I've told Declan that, in fact, Juno has a reason for behaving the way she does, and not just that, I'm also a murderer and a liar.Goddess! I've messed everything up. These men are feared amongst other werewolf packs and it's no doubt they can't tolerate someone like me as their mate. If they reject me and let me go, maybe I'll
~Xyana~ Mona comes to pick me up just as she promised. Today is my day off and I'm practically in the mood for all the mischief she has planned out for us. We head over to the garage that houses Dion's car and we take one of his cars, with Mona behind the wheels since I can't drive. I didn't go down for breakfast in the morning because I wasn't sure I had to strength to face Clifton or any of the Howling brothers at that. Oona would have made the atmosphere less awkward. But since she started her term paper, she left for school much earlier. So she eats before any of us. And with her schedule after school well planned by her nanny, I wasn't sure it was a good thing to disrupt any of that. At least until her papers are over. Since I have my own worries to take care of anyway. While Mona is driving us to the town center, I spot Declan walking down to the pack house, his body glistering under the scorching sun. "I need to
~Xyana~ I did have the feeling that something was off about Clifton early enough. Especially from the day he overheard Juno in my head. It had been obvious but I just didn't want to think about it. Maybe that was stupid of me. After my heart-to-heart moment with Dion, my understanding of what I might be up against in respect to Clifton's Wolf became a bit clearer. Dion spent more time soothing me and reassuring me that he was never going to leave me. Maybe Juno said the truth, I'm just a bloody attention-seeker. I've been starved of attention that I'm willing to clutch to these men so hard. Goddess! If they reject me, I'll be alone with absolutely no one in my corner. When Dion got a mind-link from someone, I didn't need to be told that it was time to go back out there and face my reality. He held me in a hug for a very long time and kissed me over and over again before he finally let me go. My heart is so heavy when
~Xyana~"D, please." I plead in a whisper and watch Dion cave in."It's Amon, Clif 's wolf." He replies. "We are all worried about him. You see, Amon is special. He's powerful, a protector, a lover of family, and now you are his family. The truth is we're worried about the fact that you have three of us as your Mates. Amon is possessive. So, he might not be able to handle the multiple-mate situation very well. We saw it the other day in Declan's room. Worst still, Clifton's character doesn't help the situation at all." He takes a deep breath before he goes on. "We think Clif has to speak to you first and explain to you how special Amon is, and maybe if you accept him and he does the same, the rest of us can join in. So we're just waiting for Clif to get it going for all of us."I swallow hard as everything he says doesn't really make sense to me. "What do you mean when you said Clifton's Wolf is 'special'?" I ask, feeling more and more worried. "What is going on, Dion?".He shakes hi
~Xyana~ For some reason unknown to me, I start by giving him a background rundown of my family and he listens attentively. When I'm done, he flashes a smile and turns the tip of his face cap behind. Then he says; "I know a lot about your family before now." I arched my brow questionably and he shrugged. "We just wanted to know if there's a family member we need to seek consent from before our marking ceremony." "There's none." I rush in. "I know that now." I then proceed to tell him the story about Juno. I repeat the things I told Declan. By the time I got to the end of the story and told him about my inability to shift for years until Alpha Kedar and also a clearer story about my rejection, I was actually struggling to keep my voice from breaking. I notice that he has taken a few steps back, away from me. He's staring at me like I'm an alien. Yet I don't let that distract me, I keep talking. He wedges his body on a nearby stool, squeezing the stool so hard that I feared he wou
~Xyana~ The days gradually fade through. I don't get to see my mates like before. And when I do, it's either during breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or I run into them on my way out. Clifton is cold, doesn't talk to me, and offers clipped answers when I try to engage him in a conversation. Declan and Dion are not better but at least you would know that it is taking everything in them to give me the space Gaston thinks I need because recently, I'm beginning to wonder if the idea of keeping me away from my Mates is actually worth it. I feel lonely, especially once I'm back from the construction site. Luckily, Mona made it her job to always drop by to see and spend some time with me before heading home each day. Today, I'd just got back from the construction site when I saw Dion running a parameter check around the pack house with some of the men from the pack's control house. He's scrolling through a tablet and dishing out instructions. Pointing to several angles within the pack house
~Xyana~ "Hello, Adina," I call, making a beeline straight to the pack house's private kitchen that is set aside for the use of the people living in the pack house, which I'm part of, by the way. "Good afternoon ma'am." She greets stalking behind me. "I can get you a good full-course brunch from the main kitchen. That fridge only has snacks that, in my opinion, are unhealthy." She volunteers from behind. "Good thing nobody is asking for your opinion, Adina. I'm fine." I say as I pull the door of the fridge open. Surfing through the options available, I finally settled for two cupcakes and orange juice. A spike of sugar will definitely do me good right now. When I turn, Adina is still at the door. 'What is wrong with this woman, for god's sake?' "Do you want something, Adina?" I asked, now pissed at her constant display of sanctimonious care. Can't I be allowed to eat whatever junk I want to eat at least once in a fuckin while? "Ma'am, you can't eat those. You are going to get a
~Xyana~ "Huh?" is the only word I'm able to form amidst my shock. Finally, he stops staring and his lips thinned out in a small smile. "You don't think I'll be curious to know why a wolf wouldn’t want to communicate with her Mates? Worst still, she's mad at them and prefers someone else who doesn't want her." 'Alpha Kedar wants us, Xyana.' Juno tells me, from inside my head. 'His wolf wants us too. He's just confused and upset. I only asked you to choose this Alpha because you really want to stay here. But if he doesn't want us, let's go back to our mate. He will take us back. I can assure you. I'll help you lose some weight. I'll help you become stronger. Let's go.' I keep quiet. Ignoring Juno, I set my gaze on Gaston, who has a frown on his face. But he continues speaking; "Even if your wolf was overwhelmed, I can assure you that wolves are feisty beings and can surely handle their primary instincts less effectively than we would be able to." "But..." I start, yet I can't say
~Xyana~ Stepping into Gaston's office, I notice him looking so stressed out with his face buried in his palms. I feel my heart ache for seeing him like this. I fight the urge to circle his desk and pull him into a hug while telling him everything will be okay. But I know that would seem rather inappropriate and it might throw him off. “Please sit,” he says, letting out an exhausted breath. I take a seat quietly and wait for him to speak. After what seemed like a minute or more of silence, I decided to start up the conversation. "What is going on, Gaston? What is this big secret everyone seems to know but me?" “I’m sorry, Xyana," he finally speaks. "Unfortunately, I'm really not in the right position to speak to you about any of this." He says calmly, worry flashing in his eyes. "Clifton will tell you all you need to know. I promise you, he will. I will follow him up and make sure he does that as soon as possible." His worried voice makes me super anxious. I rub my palms toge
~Xyana~Clifton's sardonic laughter catches me off guard. He's still staring at me when he says, "Amon will claim her, and when he does, he'll willingly share. She has no choice but to take the three of us. We are her Mates. At least she'll be really useful for once." He laughs again."She has a choice." Declan insists.“Like I fucking care,” Clif snickers as he adds, finally looking away from me. "I will give her, and she will take it all in good faith.”"She can choose not to be with us," Dion says."She wouldn't dare. She won't fucking dare. Anyway, she can't. It's beyond her now." He summarizes with a shrug. His words pierce my heart like a silver-laced stake, and I have to physically claw at the fabric of my bogus shirt. Tugging at the fabric around the location of my heart like I'm just unable to breathe.Gaston hits his desk so loud with his fist that I hear it crack. We all jump in unison: the men inside, me, and the Omegas that are loitering
