ROSHIDA
I got up early the next morning, hugged Sophia in her sleep since it took a thousand marching bands to get her to wake up and then dashed out of the door.I thought of not going with my car because I knew that I wouldn't be able to bring it back but then, I could just leave it at the Capitol. I'm sure they would take care of it.For the first time, the thought of the mission going wrong crossed my mind. If we are found out, we would be killed immediately. To send a message to the King and tell him that doing things like that has consequences, they would kill us without hesitation.I shouldn't be thinking about this now. It was bad luck, I would jinx myself. When I finally got to the Capitol, I went to see the King. Thankfully, the prince was with him.“Ah, here you are. I was beginning to think that Valfred didn't deliver the message properly.”“You have such little faith in me, father.”ROSHIDA The farther we walked, the colder it became. I don't know why I didn't think about it when I was putting things in my bag. It was the North, Roshida. What did you expect? “You can take my jacket, I'm wearing a lot of clothes. I'm warm.” i looked at the jacket and then back at him. I couldn't ask him to do that. “No, it's fine. I'll be fine.” I won't be fine. My fingers were freezing and I could barely breathe right. The fact that it was still snowing heavily with the sun still in the sky wasn't helping matters. That was such a reverse help. “You don't look like you're fine and you'll probably turn into a popsicle by the time we get there so take it.” This time around, I didn't push it away. How on earth were we going to do anything in this condition? I hadn't exactly been to war before so this whole lifestyle was new to me. It felt like I was suffering for nothing.
ROSHIDA The pack was in ruins. There was no singular structure that was left standing. Everything had been burnt to the ground. The whole place looked like death and destruction had come in and had a sweep of the place. There was no living being in sight and the place was cold and unwelcoming.. I felt a chill down my spine as the wind blew hard. There was blood in the snow and in the air and I tried to imagine what had gone down. These animals didn't waste time in wiping out families. “We need to move now. Since it's almost nightfall, it'll be easier for us to locate them and blend in with the others. Let's go.” Just as he had said, it wasn't hard to locate them at all. They were quite loud with the dancing and the drinking and the loud shouting. They were having a big bonfire and they danced around it, pushing and shoving each other so hard. These men were huge. Bigger than normal.
ROSHIDA “Well, this is it.” The people were all huddled together, some giving us confused stares, some barely even paying attention to us. Valfred and I went to sit by the side a few feet away from a small group. There was the strong smell of dirt, blood and fuel. I didn't want to draw a lot of attention to myself by looking around but I was still trying to wrap my head around what I was seeing. These people hadn't asked for this. They had been living just fine before they were attacked and they didn't deserve this. Now, most of them had lost a family member and were about to be taken as slaves for the very people who ruined their lives while others lost their lives. “Do you think you'll be able to sleep?* He removed one of his shirts and handed it to me. “Use this as a pillow.” I doubted I'd be able to sleep here because of how uneasy I was. I mean being around all these people, in a new place when I didn't know when those men would come in for us wasn't exactly welcoming.
ROSHIDA The next morning, we were woken up bright and early. Well, I can't exactly include myself because I didn't sleep. I kept watch like a damn night guard until the doors were fling open and Borge walked in and filled the doorway. “Get up, you bastards! Today, you meet your new master. Come on, let's get it moving.!” They went around the room kicking people to get up and Valfred and I looked at each other. “Do you think they're going to chain us up? That would be highly unpleasant.” They told us to line up in a file and walk out the door. Thanks to Regina from last night, I had a cold and it felt like the snow was falling directly into my sinuses. “You sound congested. Are you that cold?” I wanted to tell him that it was his silly little friend that did this but I figured that he didn't know her or ask her to douse me in water so I swallowed the comeback. “Yeah, something like that.” We got into line and then we started moving. The sun was just setting in the sky and tha
ROSHIDA “What?” “What are you, deaf? I said strip!” She looked at us and figured that no one could help her out so she started taking her clothes off one after the other. She was weeping as she stood stark naked in the bare snow and Borge and his men enjoyed the sight in front of them. The men on the ground turned their faces away since they couldn't do anything to help her. “Go on, run. You have a chance to actually run away. If you can manage to do that, then I'll let you go. It'll be like a little game between us okay? You have a head start though, twenty seconds. Run.” She looked unsure and looked around for a moment. “Come on, go.” Her eyes met mine before she took off very fast. That's when I realized that she had been beside me last night. If she timed it well, she might actually have a chance at freedom. My heart beat as Borge began to count and she had just gone past where the body lay. The issue was that they kept running in a straight line, right in front of th
ROSHIDA There was a loud crash as a dish fell to the floor and it broke to pieces instantly. A small girl fell to the ground and got on her knees. “I’m sorry, Matron. It slipped out of my hand when I was washing it.” The woman turned around and walked towards her. Then she kicked up one of the pieces. “Put your arm out and don't move an inch.” “Please, I'm sorry. I'll work extra hours, I'll buy it-” “Don’t make me repeat myself.” Her face was already filled with tears as she put her arm out. The woman dragged the broken piece of ceramic across her hand so hard that blood started dripping to the ground and despite the girl's loud scream and attempts to withdraw her hand, she didn't let go. She only let go when she had torn up till her shoulder. “As I said, you will be punished when you do stupid things. Don't think tears and sympathy live here. Now, when I point at you, you will be put into your group.” I ended up in the group that will clean the house. They asked us to mo
ROSHIDA When we eventually went back inside, we noticed that the maids were bringing food for the men and it smelt delicious. “I need to find Val- I mean, my husband. I'll be back soon.” Even though I didn't know where the hell he could be, I walked around the house, purposely avoiding the kitchen and other floors so I wouldn't run into any of the men. I walked out of the house and headed for the gate where I felt he would be. As soon as he saw me walking towards him, he ran up to me. “I don't think you're supposed to be here. What if someone sees you here?” “I'm not doing anything wrong. They made you a guard?” He nodded and glanced back at the gate. “ A guard in training. Are you working in the kitchens?” “No, I got lucky. I clean the rooms. They're utterly disgusting.” He laughed and for the first time, I didn't look
ROSHIDA Maybe it was the fatigue that I felt from all the walking and working that I'd done in the past day but I fell asleep a while after eating. Valfred gave me his shirt to use as a pillow and I laid on his jacket because the ground was too cold. “I have to go back out because they haven't let us go yet. Are you okay alone?” So he only came inside to give me food? I was going to ask him why and when he was coming back but then, it sounded wrong. Why did I care? “Okay then.” He looked at me for a second more before getting up and walking away. I watched him as he walked away and disappeared behind the door. For some reason, I didn't want him to leave. I knew it wasn't because I was lonely because Sonia came back and I pretended to be asleep so I didn't have to talk to her. After that, I actually did end up falling asleep but that only lasted
VALFREDDid I regret that I almost kissed her? No, not one bit. Will I do it again if I had the chance? Most definitely..If my father hadn't walked into the room at that point in time, I wonder if I would have been successful. But I wouldn't blame her for acting the way she was. The fact that nothing romantic had happened between us before asides the fact that we had to act married back then was probably what she was acting on. Should I have eased her into it?But I didn't force her on the bed, did I? I didn't hold her hand or pin her down to the bed so she shouldn't mad at me. Maybe I should apologize. Maybe she felt I had invaded her space. Gosh, women were so confusing. “Did you father disown you?”I looked up at Reggie, wondering what he was talking about. “What did you say?” “Why do you have that deep frown that means there's something wrong?”Should I tell him? He'll just criticize me and point out all the things I did wrong. But that was exactly what I needed. “N
ROSHIDAI walked back to my room with a whole lot on my mind. What had come over me? How could I sit there and let the prince almost kiss me? It's not like I was drugged or anything. I was perfectly awake and I let it happen. To make matters worse, the King had walked in. Why did he have to walk in at that moment? Why couldn't he walk in when Valfred was full clothed and not standing over me? Oh gosh, this is a disaster. How am I supposed to keep staying here after what just happened? Maybe this is a sign that I should leave. I should leave as quickly as possible and go back to my pack where I won't have to face him again. Speaking of him, what was he thinking when he was trying to kiss me? Was he drunk, perhaps? “There you are!”Sophia's voice startled me out of my thoughts and I just held my hand to my chest to calm my rapidly beating heart. “Why do you look like that? What's wrong?” Should I tell her? No, she was pro-Valfred and I didn't want her getting the wrong ideas.
ROSHIDAI thought he was going to say something but he just walked past me, stunning me as he went up the stairs. Did I do something wrong? Or was it something else? “Don’t worry about it. He's just mad about something.”I wonder what it was. I hadn't seen him like this before. I joined the Queen at the bottom of the stairs forgetting what I had come downstairs to do. What had made Valfred so mad like that? “Roshida, it's fine. He's not mad at you.”Well, I knew that but what was he mad at? I suddenly remembered why I was down here. “You asked to see me, My Queen.”“Yes, I did. But it seems like your mind is occupied with something else so I will look for you later. Go see him.”“What? Oh no, it's fine. I can see him later. This is important, isn't it?”I don't know why his temper was bothering me. After all, I hadn't done anything to him. “Roshida, we both know that your mind isn't here so go to him. I'll see later.”I wanted to argue with her but I remembered that she was th
VALFREDI thought about I entered the car. Going to Roshida's pack to see him won't do the damage I wanted it to do. And she would also get the information that I came there and I was the reason he left. I didn't even want her to know that I was aware of this. So I went to his pack. When I had seen the reports, his pack was ranking the lowest. Now, I could see why. The whole place was falling apart and it was like a junkyard. Was this the man my father had made an Alpha? If only he knew how much of a mistake he had made. I took pictures of the streets and the building so I could show how dilapidated they were. What was he doing with all the money he was given? I'd had to ask a couple of people for direction to his house since I'd never been here before. And I hoped that I didn't have to come out here again for his own sake. I knocked on the door, waiting for a
VALFREDI dropped the towel on a table before I entered my father's office. “Good morning, father. Mother tells me you called for me.”He looked up from his phone. “I told her not to set off those damn sprinklers. Take a seat.”So he knew of that too? “I wanted to speak to you about something I know you would not be comfortable talking about but nonetheless, I have to talk about it because it's necessary.”My father had a particular tone he used that let me know that things were serious. “What is the matter, father?” “As you know, I won't be young for much longer. Not that I'm young right now but I'm still agile. In a few years, you'll be taking over from me and before then, I need to make sure that you have met all the requirements of a King.”I still didn't know where this was going. “What efforts have you made towards finding a wife? I know all your past relationships didn't work o
ROSHIDA I walked back to the waiting room. “Is there a problem, Luna?” “A small one but it's all been taken care of.” Felix was crazy if he thought I was going to drop everything and.appear just because he was stupid enough to show up at my house without telling me. “Do you want to share?” Oh well, why not? It was funny to me either way. “My ex husband thought it wise to go to my pack and demand to see me. He says hes not going to leave until he does. Such a nuisance.” What did he want to see me for? What did he want to tell me? “The audacity. I thought the King asked him not to come close to you anymore. What does he want from you?” I could see that she was getting upset and I didn't want her to. “My Queen, it's fine. As I said, I've handled it already. Infact, I've decided to stay an extra day. So that when he gets tired of acting a fool, he would leave my
ROSHIDA What woke me up was the water. The sprinklers were set off every morning and we had forgotten that when we fell asleep on the grass last night. I jumped up and shook Valfred. “Seriously, no one could turn off the sprinklers?” We ran inside, obviously already soaked because the ground was wet as well. As we entered the house, the maids were already waiting with towels. The Queen was behind them, smiling. “Good morning, sleepy heads. My apologies for waking you in such a mean manner but the whole house had already gotten a glimpse of your…should I say intimacy?” Gosh, this was so embarrassing. “Mother, you are mean. I'm soaking wet!” He collected the towels from the maid and handed me one. “Oh well, hurry up. Your father wants to see you. He didn't want to disturb your sweet sleep.” “He saw me?!” The way he said it made me feel like
ROSHIDA “You're enjoying this, aren't you? You like the fact that I'm now a maid and you're a Luna? Roshida, I should have known the kind of person you were.” I had never been so confused in my life before. “Sonia, I can understand why you're mad. You make what, I don't think I can. I did ask you to come with me back to my pack. I was never going to make you a maid. You were going to live there freely and have people serve you, just like you wanted here. But you chose this instead.” She dropped the mop.“You think I'm stupid. I know you look down on me and that's why you thought I was some charity case that you could help. But guess what, I'm better off here. I'd rather be a rat here than go with you where I will be indebted to you forever.” What on earth was she on about? Was that how she viewed this whole thing? “That wasn't what this was about. I just wanted to help you out. That's it. You could have easily gon
ROSHIDA After we finished eating, Reggie saw us out of the house. “Thank you so much for the food, Reggie. It was really great.” His smile wasn't as wide anymore.“Yeah, it's fine. I'm just glad you liked it.” “And sorry you had to find out about your dog and cat like that.” “Yeah, I'm going to have a long talk with them tonight. Gosh, there are going to be so many.” Valfred placed his arm on his shoulder.“Good luck because you're going to need it. You should have been a better father.” Reggie slapped his hand off.“You should be disappointed in yourself too. What were you doing while they were getting knocked up?” “Far up in the north being a hero. What about you?” Reggie couldn't say anything again.“I can't believe you'd stoop so low. Anyways, I'll be bringing some of the babies to your house so people don't think I'm the weird cat and dog artist. They already think I'
