Chapter 0005

No one stepped up to explain themselves to me. At least, not about why Dominic’s daughter was not present amongst us. Not even that immature son of the Alpha’s dared say a word. I grew disappointed in what little backbone this damn pack had, and was slowly tightening my grip around his neck, getting a good feel of his Adam’s apple.

“Wait!”

I loosened my grip just a bit when I heard that shout, and turned to see a young female werewolf stand amongst the male wolves. 

“I’m Dominic’s daughter, Casey! Let my daddy go!” she demanded.

I was honestly amazed by her spunk. It’s not every day a werewolf would speak to me in that manner. The girl seems to be at the right mating age, and she was not from amongst the group of she wolves. I felt hopeful that she was the one, as I dropped the Beta and made my way over to her. 

Once I was in distance, I grabbed her by the arms, as though a bit frightened that this meeting was all but an illusion. Feeling her flinch like so, I felt a bit hurt to see how my presence frightens her. Living without a mate for a hundred years, it would be a given that I would be so anxious. I don’t want to live another day without my beloved!

Or so I hoped, when I took a sniff at her scent. To my grand disappointment and rage, she was not the one, either!

‘Something’s not right,’ came Kora’s voice in my head.

‘What impeccable timing,’ I sarcastically linked back. ‘I will ask again. You are positive today is the day I meet my mate, yes?’

‘In the Downfall Pack, yes,’ she answered. ‘Yet, despite what we were told, I’m not seeing the mate bond in you react.’

Those words made me want to growl. If what Kora says is true, and I feel nothing for her regardless, that can only mean one thing…

“This is the last of the females you have?” I questioned in a low tone.

“Yes. She is. What of it?” I heard Chase answer instead of his father.

My mood was already bad enough with this makeshift cat-and-mouse game, as I grabbed Dominic’s ‘daughter’ by the head, lifting her up, tempted to crush her skull as she squirmed and screamed in pain and fright.

“Casey!”

“M-My king! What are you doing?!” Rush asked in a frightened tone.

“I was in somewhat of a good mood earlier. I was told of something good and could not wait for it to be true. And yet, here I am seeing nothing but stupid actions from stupid mutts. Making my mood turn sour. Do you want me to wipe this pack off the face of the earth, Alpha Rush?” I questioned with a stern warning.

I did not need to turn to him to see how frightened he was. Especially not with how he was answering after. “My deepest apologies, my king! There is actually one more!” he admitted. “Though I don’t know exactly where she is. I-I thought she was supposed to be here, if anything! Dominic, tell him! That missing girl is your daughter, after all!”

That got my attention, as I slowly glanced at the downed Beta. 

“Care to explain,” I indirectly ordered.

Dominic flinched at my demand before hesitantly answering, “I-I don’t know! I swear to you, I don’t know what happened!”

I grew unamused by the response, as I tightened my grip on his daughter’s head, causing her to cry out. “Try again. Unless if you really want me to kill your daughter. Assuming if she even is your kid,” I warned.

To my dismay, that warning seemed to be enough, as he then said, “I-I got news from the guards watching her earlier! You see, for certain reasons, we had to keep her… isolated for a bit. And suddenly when we sent someone to check in on her, she was just gone! I don’t know where she is. Honest!”

Words can never describe the amount of anger I was having in me at the response, as I unconsciously tightened my grip on his other daughter’s head. What the hell did he mean he does not know where his own daughter is? How could he- her own father- not know where she may be?! Just those words alone gave me enough insight as to what my mate must have gone through in this good-for-nothing pack.

“One hour,” I spoke through gritted teeth. “I am only giving you one hour to find that girl and bring her here. If she does not come here in that one hour, Alpha Rush… Consider this the day the Downfall Pack really get their name. Starting with this bitch.” I tightened my grip on Dominic’s daughter’s head at my words.

Nex’s POV

I did not know how long I was running in these woods, but hopefully I was somewhere far enough away from that pack.

Night time rolled around when an Omega came on Casey’s orders to pamper me up for the Choosing Night. Everyone thought I was so weak to not be able to fight, they overlooked one thing. Although it was true that I am not a good fighter, that did not mean I was weaker than an Omega, who can’t even defend themselves when put in combat.

Though I have to admit, I do feel a little sorry for the poor girl. Can’t say the same for Casey and the rest of the pack. How I can only wonder what was happening over there once they’ve realized I escaped confinement.

‘NEX!’ Speaking of…

‘Yes, Dominic. How can I help you?’ I responded to my ‘father’s mind link, coming to a stop and taking a small rest on a boulder.

‘Do not give me that smart attitude, young lady! The king is looking for you. If you know what is good for you, you will return. NOW!’

Despite the demand he was giving me, I could not help but notice how shaky his tone was. Almost like he was... afraid?

It did not take me long to realize what happened. ‘So Casey still did not step up to meet her destiny?’ I questioned him. ‘I think it’s more obvious what you should be doing instead of bothering me. Need I remind you that you want me gone. It shouldn’t matter ‘how’ I leave. Furthermore, Casey wanted to be Luna so badly. She should learn how to take responsibilities.’

‘This is NOT about her!’ Dominic argued. ‘Look, just come back here. Now! Unless if you want to be responsible for the death of an entire pack! The death of your family!’

I raised a brow at the claim he made. Responsible? For what? What does he take me for? More than that, he has the galls to talk to me about being responsible for anything? When their pack’s next Alpha and Luna are Chase and Casey?! Likewise, how dare he talk to me about family, when he made it clear what I am in his eyes!

‘I don’t care if you are the Beta of the Downfall Pack, or the man who brought me to this world!’ I sneered. ‘All my life, you have been treating me like trash, while Casey gets all the princess treatment from you! You give your father’s love to someone who is NOT your real daughter, while you treat said daughter like some waste! And after all this time, you think you have ANY right at all to talk to me about family?! You think I should care about a pack that treats me as nothing but some plague my whole life?! All of you can just rot in hell!’

Not wanting to hear another word from that selfish old man, I cut off the mind link and continued on my way. If the Downfall Pack really is looking for me, I need to hurry up and get farther away. Hopefully, the king will be mad enough to end them once they go back to him empty handed. If there is one thing I will regret, it would be not being able to see their demise with my own eyes. Alas, it is a sacrifice I have to make.

A bit into my run, I stopped upon sensing some presence nearby, on my guard. “Who’s there?!”

Some chuckles were heard just a bit ahead of me, as three men walked out of the shrubs with smirks on their faces. Rogues, to be exact.

“What do you think you’re doing out here all alone, lady?” Rogue 1 asked.

I was in no mood for whatever they even plan to do, and continued onwards. “Nothing that concerns you, I’m sure.”

Before I could walk past them, though, Rogue 1 grabbed me by the shoulder and pushed me down. “I don’t think so. You see, there are rules that needs to be followed in the outside world. And the rule for girls like you?”

I glared at him, noticing the smug looks on his and his comrades’ faces practically grow, as well as the ‘hungry’ looks in their eyes. It was clear what they wanted, and I was ready to fight them all off if I have to. I did not come here just to take advantage of by some rogues!

Suddenly, a large wolf appeared and mauled one of the rogues, much to our shock.

“Geh! What the hell?!” Rogue 1 gasped, shellshocked as he watched his ally die by this unknown werewolf’s claws.

“Hey! Who the hell do you think you are?!” Rogue 2 demanded, shifting into his own wolf form.

The large wolf suddenly shifted into human form and grabbed Rogue 2 by the mouth, clamping it shut, before grabbing his neck with his free hand and roughly slammed the rogue into the ground headfirst, killing him off as well.

Rogue 1 and I were just baffled with what occurred. Not only did this guy take out two rogues, he killed them easily. Rogue 1 instantly became frightened by this and tried to run, only for the newcomer to rush to him and grab him by the throat. Before he could even plead for his life, the werewolf instantly snapped and crushed his neck, killing him off as well.

I grew more frightened to see the man die so close in front of me like so. I couldn’t move from my spot. As I noticed the new werewolf turn to me, my face flushed when I took notice of one vital thing… This man- who was in his wolf form just earlier- was without any clothes. Not even an underwear! I looked away from his privates and unintentionally up into his eyes. The moment I did so, I felt something from him. Something I did not think I would feel. Not after I got rejected by Chase.

It would seem I was not the only one who felt it, as I could hear my wolf, White, crying out. ‘Mate…? It’s mate! Nex, he’s our second chance! He’s our mate!’

I couldn’t believe what I heard. Is he truly? But, that couldn’t be, could it?
