EVELYN POV
“Life is cruel, Evelyn. We live today and die tomorrow—that's just the meaning of it all…” Her voice dripped with disdain, each word slicing through the tension in the air. “Are you really having kidney problems? Answer me, you bitch!” I demanded, my voice sharp and fierce, a fire igniting within me. At that, she erupted into a harsh, mocking laughter that echoed in the room. She spun around, her smile wide and taunting, so that I could see her well. She was perfectly fine and healthy. "Of course not, you idiot! Can't you see the game I’m playing here or are you just dumb?!" My breath caught in my throat. Oh, Moon Goddess! "So you’re faking it?" My heart pounded wildly against my ribcage. I shook my head in disbelief, trying to sit up, but my body felt heavy and unresponsive, sharp pains radiating through me with each movement. I couldn't believe this. She was just lying about having a failing kidney??? So I was about to lose one of my kidneys for nothing? “I have a piece of advice for you, Evelyn,” she sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. “Just sign the divorce papers and stop living in this fantasy that you’ll win Alpha John back. You think giving me your precious kidney will change anything? Someone, please, wake this delusional lady up!” She continued to laugh cruelly like the maniac she was. She plopped down on her bed again, arms crossed, giving me a mocking stare that pierced through me. I could see the pity in her eyes, the way she shook her head as if I were a lost cause. "I’m going to tell Alpha John everything! I’ll scream loud and clear that you pretended to have kidney failure, and he’ll leave you for good and come back to me!" I spat. She let out another mocking laugh, eyes sparkling with cruelty. "My goodness, you really don’t know when to quit, do you?" Slowly, she walked to my bed, her presence looming like a dark cloud. "Well, for your information," she said, her voice dripping with disdain, "John and I have already planned to toss your weak ass aside after the kidney transplant. And if you think I’m lying, I have proof right here on my phone." She pulled her phone from a purse beside her, the screen glowing as she waved it in front of me. "I won't believe you! You're just trying to manipulate him, and he doesn’t see it!" I shook my head frantically, grasping at straws. She had to be lying. With a smirk, she tossed the phone at me. The device landed with a thud, and I hesitated before pressing play. My eyes widened in disbelief as the video unfolded before me. My belongings were strewn carelessly outside the pack house, my blue luggage and every other thing I owned waiting for me after the transplant. A knot tightened in my throat, and I took a shaky breath, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill. But they came anyway, hot and relentless, streaming down my cheeks. "After everything..." I whispered. “Awwwwnnn, you poor thing. You just got the worst betrayal of your life,” Diane mocked, her voice dripping with mock sympathy. She nonchalantly gathered her hair into a messy bun then snatched the divorce papers from the table and flung them onto my bed, the pen landing beside them. “Now sign this shit and end things with him. He’s mine now. After all, you’re going to die after this surgery,” she sneered, rolling her eyes as I fought to wipe away my tears. It was over. It felt like the world was closing in around me, like an inescapable fog. My hands trembled as I reached for the pen and drew my shaky signature beneath my name, sealing my fate. "And that's a good girl," Diane cooed, her voice dripping with mockery as she tapped my shoulder. The smile on her face was anything but genuine as she sauntered back to place the divorce papers where Alpha John kept them. "I'll be right back before the surgery commences," she added with a casual tone, as if she were discussing mundane plans, not the removal of my kidney. What was her plan? Would she still go through with the surgery since her kidneys were still fine? Or was she scheming to have them removed just to sell them? The thought sent a chill down my spine. My gut churned with suspicion. Was she in cahoots with the hospital? Something felt deeply wrong, and every instinct screamed that I needed to run away before it was too late. What do I do now? How do I escape this? I can't let my kidney get taken away from me like this. I looked at both of my hands but they were tied in one way or the other. “Uhm, Ms. Evelyn.” The voice yanked me from my swirling thoughts. I turned sharply and saw the doctor stepping into the ward, his brow furrowed as he scanned the paper in his hands. “Don’t you know it’s dangerous to proceed with a kidney transplant considering the child you’re carrying, Ms. Evelyn?” In an instant, my anger faded, replaced by disbelief and confusion. Did he just say ‘child?’ What child? What did he mean by that? Was I not barren? My breath caught in my throat, and I felt warmth rushing through me. I clutched my stomach. "What do you mean by that doctor?" I asked in curiosity, my eyes widened like saucers. The doctor looked up, concern etched on his face. "You’re a month pregnant, Ms. Evelyn. Performing the surgery now could be incredibly risky for both you and the baby. We need to address this." I was truly pregnant? I couldn’t believe it. My hands went to my stomach, feeling the warmth. Was it the reason I constantly felt nauseous and dizzy? It was huge news to me. It brought a smile to my face, the first I had since four days. But that smile disappeared immediately. If I was pregnant, how could I push through with this surgery? Wouldn’t it be dangerous for the innocent baby? Fear gripped me at the thought of an innocent life suffering because of my ex-husband and his fiance’s wickedness. "I can’t go through with this," I whispered under my breath, my voice shaking. The doctor continued. “We should tell Alpha John so he can do something about this; it seems like he doesn’t know about—” “No! No! No!” I begged and clamped my hands together. I shook my head frantically. “Please don’t tell him about this child! Let it be our secret, just between us, please! I beg of you!” I pleaded, my voice breaking as tears rolled down my cheeks. I sniffed and wiped them away hastily while he gazed at me with confusion. I couldn’t let Alpha John find out about this baby. Not when his soon-to-be Luna was already pregnant. I imagined John’s reaction if he heard about this. Would he care? If he saw me as just a vessel, would he now care about the life growing inside that vessel? He would see my child as a burden and force me to abort the baby. “But if he isn’t informed, there’s a high risk of you losing your child during the transplant, Ms. Evelyn,” he said, a deep sigh escaping his lips as he crossed his arms. Desperately, I looked him in the eye and an idea suddenly came to me. I reached out and grabbed the edge of his coat, my fingers shaking. “Please, do something for me, doctor.”ALPHA JOHN XAVIER."Don't worry," Nurse Aria assured calmly. "Once the kidney transplant is done, it will ease the pain she is feeling."We stood outside the ward Diane was in. I nodded, but I still felt anxious as I watched Diane writhe in pain on the bed. I stepped inside and sat beside her. Each shallow breath she took reminded me how close I was to losing her. After the blood transfusion, her health progressed a little, but she was still in pain. At least she could sit in a wheelchair now, even if she couldn’t walk. Seeing her like this made me want to protect her with my life.I couldn't wait to crown her as my Luna. We were childhood sweethearts and I held her dear to my heart. We had to break up since she was leaving the Pack to further her education. It broke me completely.Since she returned, she brought a peace to my heart that I didn’t know I was missing. Her presence calmed the chaos in my life. I knew Evelyn was trying hard to win my heart. I saw her efforts in cooking
EVELYN "Anything that happens next should be between us, please! I’m begging you with my life! Just pretend nothing happened and you didn't notice anything!" I implored, gazing into the doctor’s eyes.He stared at me, confused, tilting his head as he tried to understand my plea. Slowly, he nodded, looking down as if he was processing what I said.It seemed he didn’t know what was going on. He was not in on their games and was just following John’s orders."But the operation..." he started in hesitation."That will never hold!" I blurted out loud but panicked and darted my eyes left and right, scanning the room for any sign that they were around. After that, I begged him not to tell anyone about the pregnancy because right now, the only thing on my mind was to escape. I'm leaving. I'm finally making the choice I’ve been dreading, the one I never wanted to make in my life with Alpha John. I have endured enough torment.I wiped my tears away as I saw the doctor leave the room and clos
JOHN XAVIER POVThere’s no way she signed the divorce papers. How is that even possible? That’s unlike her. The Evelyn I knew would do anything to keep me by her side! The thought made me both angry and confused. In front of me were three of my warriors, looking serious and focused. Another three stood behind us, all under the watchful gaze of Beta Andrew, who stayed right by my side. We moved quickly into the woods, searching for her.“Spread out!” I shouted, my voice breaking the quiet of the trees. The warriors immediately scattered into the different directions to find her. Andrew, however, remained by my side, loyal as ever.I took a deep breath and could perceive her scent. The air was filled with her scent which was sweet but mixed with fear. I followed the trail, my instincts sharp and senses heightened. The darkness of the woods didn’t hinder me; I navigated the underbrush easily, careful not to trip over the roots and branches reaching out like skeletal hands. The cold ai
EVELYN’S POV: My legs hurt badly and throbbed, making it hard for me move. As I forced myself to stir, I could see darkness around me. Fear filled me. "Did Alpha John find me?" The thought made my stomach churn. I tried to sit up, but my limbs felt like lead. “Where am I?” I struggled to think when I noticed a strange scent brush my senses. It was calming, like a breath of fresh air. It was the same one I had perceived just before I passed out. As I pushed myself up, I realized I was lying on a bed, soft and comfortable compared to the rough ground of the woods I had fainted on. The cool fabric felt nice against my skin. I pressed my fingers into the plush mattress to confirm I wasn’t dreaming. “What happened?” I whispered. I quickly looked around the room I was in. Sunlight poured through a large window, filling the space with warm light. I heard rustling sounds from outside, mixed with a rooster crowing. This meant that it was already the next morning. “Moo
EVELYN’S POV:FIVE YEARS LATER“Mommy! Mommy!”The joyful shouts of my two little kids echoed in the expansive parking lot of the elementary school.I turned to see them running happily toward me, their melodious laughter bringing a warm smile to my face. Harriet and Harry, with their bright smiles and sparkling eyes, raced forward, their little feet thumping on the pavement. When they got to me, they wrapped their tiny arms around my legs.“How was school today, my little scholars?” I asked, crouching down to their height and resting my hands gently on their shoulders. “Great!” Harriet exclaimed, her brunette pigtails bouncing. She held up a crumpled drawing of a T-Rex, the bright colors spilling over the edges of the paper.I gave her a thumbs up and she giggled, her chubby cheeks bunching up. I took their little hands in mine and we walked side by side.As we left the busy school grounds, the sounds of children playing faded behind us. I felt the warm afternoon sun on my back as
As I walked into the living room, she opened her mouth to say the name of the visitor but hesitated. Just then, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I quickly took it out and answered. “Ma’am, there’s an emergency! You need to rush down to the company right away. The project file you used for the defense is missing!” Mimi, my personal assistant, said in a frantic voice. My heart sank. Without thinking, I rushed down the hallway, snatched the car keys from the driver’s hand, flung open the door of the driver’s seat and jumped in. As I backed out of the gate, I saw my driver running after me, trying to catch up and take over. But I didn’t have the time for that. What did she mean by the project defense file was missing???? There was no way the project I had poured my heart and soul in, spent sleepless nights and dealt with endless headaches for, just disappear! Moon Goddess, please let this not be true. I silently begged as I hit the gas. I sped down the road as I weaved through t
ALPHA JOHN XAVIER’S POV:“Alpha, are you listening?” Andrew’s voice cut through my foggy thoughts, snapping me out of them.I jolted upright, feeling the heavy weight of tiredness on my shoulders. I rubbed my face and brushed the stubble on my jaw. These past five years, I haven’t felt like myself. Each day was a struggle against a deep fatigue that made it hard to concentrate. “What festival are you talking about?” I replied, my voice raspy as I straightened in my chair. Andrew stood in front of me, his brow furrowed with concern with an invitation letter clutched tightly in his hands. As I leaned forward, sunlight streamed through the window, lighting up the edges of the card. I took it from him, our fingers brushing.Reading the words, shock and disbelief filled me. The Nightshade Pack—one of the oldest and most powerful packs to exist—was celebrating their three-hundredth anniversary, and Silver Moon had been invited. “What do you think, Alpha? Should we go?” he asked enthusi
EVELYN POVAfter a couple of hours, I let out a deep sigh as the plane touched down, the rumble of the landing gear jolting me back to reality.I stepped out onto the tarmac with Harry and Harriet and nostalgia hit me, making me pause for a moment to look at the familiar skyline of New York City. I’m back in New York.I blinked against the bright afternoon sun as the towering buildings cast long shadows. Memories flooded my mind. Most of them were dark and haunting. I tried to reach for good memories, but there were none. All the time I spent in this city, I never truly had a moment of peace. I mean, compared to what I enjoyed now, what I used to call ‘peaceful’ now seemed like hellhole to me.What if I hadn’t taken that bold decision to free myself? I often wondered. The way my life turned around based on one decision still felt surreal. The image of that day where I was filled with pain and betrayal, loomed larger than life. It felt like a dark cloud hovering above me, yet, str
EVEYLNMy mind raced, desperate for an excuse to leave. I shouldn’t have come here in the first place, and now there were only thirty minutes left until my son’s ritual. Time was slipping away too fast."Your kids… they’re Alpha John’s, aren’t they?" she asked.I froze, my eyes widened as I stared at her, completely shocked by her question. My plate was half empty and suddenly, I had no appetite at all."I knew it," she muttered, spinning her wine before placing the glass down with a quiet clink."So that’s why you joined this pack? To be with John?" she pressed, her gaze locked onto mine."No!" I blurted out, shaking my head. She couldn’t be more wrong. "I didn't join this Pack, like I said earlier...""If John asked you to rejoin this pack, would you?" she asked with a soft voice. but her eyes studied me closely."With all due respect, ma’am, I’ve moved on," I said, keeping my voice as calm as possible. The conversation was starting to make me uncomfortable, and I shifted slightly i
JOHNWhat did she even mean by that?"How is it too much?" Charles asked as he drank water from the glass cup and yes he was right about it."I'm just trying to help Eveyln" Diane barely looked up as she replied, she was a bit offended with what he said. "Because if she’s surrounded by controversy, it’s going to affect you and your campaign." Her fork clinked softly against her plate.I glanced at Evelyn. She looked tense, her jaw tight, but she kept eating, like she was trying to pretend the conversation wasn’t annoying her."Alright, that's enough," I snapped but in a low voice . "He was asking her, not you."Diane lifted her head, meeting my eyes with a concern laced in her voice. "I’m just worried about my father-in-law. That’s not wrong, is it?" Her voice was light, like she needed someone to tell her it was okay. The dinning room fell silent for a moment, the only sound coming from the quiet clinking of cutlery. I watched my mum, her gaze fixed on Evelyn as she ate. Then, fina
EVEYLN John’s face went stiff the moment he saw her outside. It was obvious he hadn’t expected her to be there. Diane’s eyes found me first then her expression twisted, like she was surprised to see even my figure here since John didn't tell her about my coming to this Pack, before it hardened into anger. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides. She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, a feminine voice spoke from behind her.“What’s going on out here? Come inside.”A middle-aged woman stepped into view, her diamond earrings catching the light. She had the kind of quiet authority that made it clear she was used to being listened to. Her sharp eyes flicked to Diane, who immediately softened, her expression shifting just enough to look composed.“Yes… Mum,” Diane said, her voice suddenly sweet and controlled. “It’s nothing, really. I just saw John outside with… her.” She gestured toward me, forcing a smile. “I guess I got a little upset.”The woman, John’s mother,
EVEYLNThe strong, scent of herbs and burning incense filled the air as we stepped into the Pack Witch’s cavern. It was filled with old skulls, bones and oil carrying the echoes of old rituals and quiet prayers to the Moon Goddess. This was a sacred place where sacrifices were made, secrets were shared, and the pack sought guidance from forces beyond our understanding.John and I sat on a long, worn bench, the softness of hare fur beside us. He leaned in and murmured, suggesting we summon her instead. I shook my head, firm. "No, we go to her. That’s how it’s done." As Alpha, he had the power to command otherwise, but tradition still mattered to me, at least. The old woman’s sharp eyes locked onto my son like daggers. He kept his head down, avoiding her stare. I could understand what he was feeling at that moment, the unease. It wasn’t surprising, there was something unsettling about the Pack Witch’s gaze, her brows furrowed but her eyes were wide.Pack witch's eyes are always like tha
GIOVANNIAfter the meeting with Diane, I stormed out and as I reached my car, I slammed my hands onto the hood, the metal shuddering. Her smug little speech about her new plans echoed in my head, each word grating on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard."How the hell did she find out?" I muttered through clenched teeth, my voice sharp with anger. I glanced around the parking lot, my mind racing. Who told her? Does she have someone feeding her information? The thought made my blood boil. She was always one step ahead, always pulling strings I didn’t even know existed.Straightening up, I clenched my fists, a slow smirk creeping onto my lips. What can I use against her? How do I make sure she never tries to control me again?I shook my head, my jaw tightening. No one controls me, I growled, the fire inside me burning hotter. I’m Alpha Giovanni. I control and I don’t get controlled.I pulled into my private garage at the Pack, shutting off the engine. The low hum faded.Carlo came rushi
EVEYLNThe moment we arrived at the villa, we rushed toward the commotion at the gate. Six men stood there, their tense stances making it clear they weren’t welcome. The guards had blocked their path, refusing to let them in.One was about to enter like he was trying again but the guard their shook his head, his hands still spread across the gate.Andrew stepped forward, his voice sharp. "And who the hell are you?" he demanded, eyes narrowing as we got closer. The men didn’t back down, but their heated glares bore down to those guards. I studied their faces carefully, and then it hit me, I recognized one of them. As if sensing it, they all shifted their attention to me, lowering their heads in respect. Not to John, who stood tall beside me, but to me alone."They say they’re from the NightShade Pack, Alpha," one of John’s warriors said, his tone laced with sarcasm, meanwhile John scoffed like he understood what the situation was. Of course, I already knew too that they were here beca
EVEYLNI sighed and rolled my eyes as I started up the stairs. He followed closely behind, carrying Harriet in his arms. His grin widened, and for some reason, it made my chest feel heavy. When he asked me that question, I knew it wasn’t true—but still, I couldn’t bring myself to deny it. Why couldn’t I just tell him the real reason?Beta Andrew reached the top of the stairs and opened the first door. “Here we are,” he said, stepping inside.I followed him in. The room was spotless, with a neatly made bed and crisp sheets tucked perfectly in place. At least I wouldn’t have to worry about cleaning just unpacking and putting our clothes away in the cupboard.Bea wouldn’t be here until later, she’d told me earlier she had some things to take care of.Just as I opened my bag and started pulling out clothes to hang in the cupboard, my phone rang.I glanced at the screen and saw Elena’s name. A small smile tugged at my lips as I answered."Hey, babe! Where are you?" she asked curiously. "Be
EVELYN POVEven after all this time, coming back to this pack still stirs something deep inside me, a connection I wish I didn’t have. It feels like the ground remembers me. Leaving wasn’t easy. Even with Harriet in the hospital, it took me two days to pack. I made time because I had no choice. This wasn’t just another visit, it was something I couldn’t ignore. My Harry was in danger.Ahead, John’s car led the way, winding through familiar roads. He insisted on taking the lead, and I let him. Not because I didn’t remember the way I did but because he needed to feel in control. So I stayed quiet and let him. From the backseat, I caught glimpses of pack members turning their heads, trying to see into my car. The tinted windows kept me hidden. But I could feel their curiosity pressing against the glass, their need to know who had come with their Alpha. We stopped in front of a villa, a two-story building with walls so polished they looked newly built. The place felt untouched, like no on
GIOVANNI "Boss, Alpha John came looking for Elvis at the construction site,"As soon as I read the message, I snapped my phone shut and shoved it into my pocket. My jaw clenched. I couldn’t leave Evelyn now, not after what I saw last night. The image burned in my mind: their lips pressed together, her arms wrapped around him like he was her whole world. The memory cut deep in my mind. My chest ached with a rage I could barely hold back. It hurt so much I wanted to storm into her room, rip him away from her, and destroy him with my bare hands. No one could ever love Evelyn the way I do. No one. Every sacrifice, every sleepless night, every risk I took it was all for her. And yet, after everything, she’s back with him. Her ex.A bitter laugh escaped me. Fine. If she thinks she can love him again, I’ll make sure she hates him instead. "Don’t worry, Evelyn," I said softly, trying to ease her worry. "I’ll bring a sign language tutor here so she can start practicing for now."Harriet had
