Cole followed Hunter closely with bated breath. A tiny voice in his mind asked him to prevent his best friend given everything about him screamed sinful intentions. His eyes were shadowed with ferocity and the chips of black in his pupils darkened.

"They might have given a slip, Hunter. I'm certain they witnessed Murphy beating Pavel Maury to unconsciousness." Cole tried to create deviation.

"They wouldn't wait for you to hunt them down, would they?"

"Your certainty has nothing to do with my purpose. And just so you know, my guards haven't seen them going out of the pub. They're still inside, hiding somewhere." Hunter took long measured steps into the dark and isolated part of the pub that wasn't open for anyone except the staff.

“And I don't give two fucks why and how Murphy beat Pavel Maury. I'm not going to let him go easily… that's for sure.”

He crossed a corridor or two and arrived at a dead end. Cole halted before he bumped into Hunter's back.

71Tyler's mouth curved up as he focused on the driving."I'm not here to fight your crazy ex-husband. Don't worry." He said as if he read her mind. His words didn't settle her restlessness. If anything, it increased her anxiety.Claire appraised the cuts and bruises on his face. It reminded her of Hunter's fury. He did that in RavenMoore. What would he do if he was made aware that Tyler has come to his country? Claire didn't want to think. She didn't want to see any more blood of either Tyler or Hunter being shed by one another. "Go back," She said while looking at him seriously. "I'm here for business purposes, Claire. I can't go even if I want to." Tyler offered without looking up. "Your ex-husband has been a sore sight for my eyes. Do you think I have any patience to tolerate him? You can relax. I have no desire to initiate a fight." "But what happened in RavenMoore...." She breathed deeply. "It must be shameful for you. You were beaten in your own country right in your own f

72In the hospital,Zara emerged from the darkness of induced slumber with a flickering gaze. She kept them close for a while to relax the back of her eyes then undid them again. She looked around and a feeling of disappointment crept into her being given her side was empty. There was a single nurse examining her daily report. She noticed the movement on the pillow and tore her gaze off the notepad. A warm smile touched her lips. "How are you feeling, ma'am?" The nurse asked, coming closer. Zara's chest bubbled with pounding anger. She looked about the room again as though whatever she was desiring to catch sight of will appear. However, she was met with silence and white walls. The stools placed on both sides of the bed seemed to have never been occupied, and not even the scent she thought she would wake up to inhaling was breathable in the air.The nurse had kept the pad by Zara's foot on the bed. She was unclasping the strings on the front of her gown to appraise her wound. The la

73Hunter took the lift to go downstairs and hid behind a wall to peek inside the casualty room. The lounge was occupied by some visitors, and amidst them, sat Claire with Penelope Baker, her annoying friend.Claire made a cringe face while helping hold Penelope's hand which she seemed to have hurt in some way."Why do you even attempt to ride a bike when you can't balance it? I have never seen such a stupid person in my life, Penny." Claire ranted. "This is your fifth time fracturing a part of your body in a year after falling from a bike. Why don't you just drop your determination? You can't ride a motorbike and that's it! That's the truth. Embrace it." Penelope made a crying face. Her hand was looking swollen and the side of her wrist was scraped with dried up blood. But Hunter hardly paid any attention or pitied the brunette beauty. His eyes were affixed on Claire's beautiful face. She wore a baby pink top with black short skirt. It was not revealing but something about it made H

74Claire was rooted into her spot, her heart picking up crazy speed. She didn't try to hide the color whipping into her cheeks or how her breathing doubled. She crossed her hands on her chest and stared at him. The back of her eyes were dry. She was thankful. She had shed more tears on this man compared to what he deserved. She focused on his face. It was not a stoic mask. His jaw was tensely clenched, his eyes looking at her with emotions she didn't want to acknowledge. There was something about his lips that suggested he had a shit load of stuff to tell her, but that he was quiet as though it was not the right time.He was still. Too still, like a predator indolently waiting to pounce. His dark eyes increased the level of adrenaline in her body. The silence in the cabin caused her back to soak with sweat. Though her face was hardened, her body was discreetly mourning over the fact that this gorgeous man, sitting across from her in a chair that wasn't his, was once hers. He had a

75 Her throat contracted with nerves, and she felt herself drowning, choking. Tears trickled out of her eyes. The fact that Hunter was literally behaving like they were one body with two souls made her knees buckle. She was not going to fall though. He had her tightly held after all. So tightly held as if she was his safe haven. As if she were his anchor, and god forbid if he let loose, then not only will he drown but also won't have the strength to come up on the surface as though the currents in the ocean were powerful. Claire quietly lowered her trembling face. She caught only the sight of his ear and the skin around it. He seemed to have rested himself at peace. Fully relieved... Like there was no better place than her embrace. She could feel his soft and unrushed breathing. The warmth of it. Her neck numbed under the warmth of his hot breaths. She couldn't see it but she could bet that his eyes were close. He could fall asleep in that position, with her in his arms, standing

  • Regretting Divorce   Chapter 76

76Hunter stared pointlessly in the air as he let Claire's words sink in.There. Is. Nothing. Between. Me. And. Tyler. She literally hissed those words out with contempt only a woman steadfast on her determination would. Not to mention Claire would never lie. She was a simple woman with a heart made of pure gold. She stated it herself already. Even if it was the best way to fuck his senses up and turn the course of his world around, she would never do it.Because she was Claire. The woman with love in her heart. The woman with deep compassion for every living creature on this earth. She didn't know how to be bad and hence she decided for his fate to punish him for his sins. For the injustice and wrongdoings he committed towards her. "Fuck!" Hunter ran a hand through his hair and stormed out of the cabin restlessly to go after her. This was punishment. Claire wanting to get away from him... This was real punishment. And it was worse than he could imagine. Even the thought of having

77Hunter walked back to her. This time he felt her shudder when he pressed his chest into her back. Claire hugged her arms but didn't try to move away. Hunter touched her mouth to her ear, not kissing her, but not trying to move his lips away. His hands remained suspended to his sides as if he knew she was praying in her heart for him to keep his hands to himself. "I realized it that day we had our divorce. Specifically when we were handed our divorce certificates. I was looking at your face. I knew it's wrong. I didn't want to let you go." He paused, his face coming closer so his lips would touch her jaw. Again, he wasn't kissing her, just keeping his mouth in contact with her skin. Emotions choked Claire's throat. Clogged her mind as misery ran through her veins, causing her skin to turn cold like the surface of a car during tough winters. "But you still did." Claire stole his chance to speak along with his breaths as she continued, "Not only that... You also let your slút snatc

78With heart in her throat, Claire returned back to him."What did you say?" Her body was trembling.Considering how brokenly Hunter was gazing at her, she knew he wouldn't try to hold her. So she had to take the support of a motorbike beside her to stand still."You heard me the first time I said it." He said, grazing her face longingly."And how do you know that?""Maury told me."Claire squinted her eyes in doubt, "And how did you get acquainted with Maury?""I had him picked up from the club along with his two men. He confessed it in my custody."He said without remorse. But the darkness clouding in his eyes provided her answers of questions which wouldn't have come to the surface had he not revealed what he said previously."You followed me into the club?" She cringed."After I was told how dangerous the man and the place is.""So you accept that you've been stalking me."Hunter's jaw tightened, he gave her a look that made shivers erupt within her, "It's not wrong to protect th

230Hunter's POV "I'm the one bleeding and it's your eyes that are shedding tears. Isn't it a little weird, Dove?" She froze, I saw her knuckles turn white from clenching her fingers too tight to keep her emotions in check. But she failed and it made my body hum in gratitude. It's a relief that her heart still cares even though her eyes show deep hatred. "Your curses... I've been thinking about them since you first cursed me, Dove. I won't hide how much it hurts to hear all those words. They make my heart bleed. I wonder if you are really so desperate to see my blood. But... Is this how it’ll be when I’m bleeding and suffering in torment?" I moved back so I could look at her face. My darling was glowing red. Her cute nose seemed like a cherry tomato while the rims around her eyes shimmered a pinkish red. Her wet lashes shadowed her admirable cheeks as her full lips quivered from each sob that left them. "Gosh, if this is how you're going to cry, I swear I'll throw myself under a t

229Hunter's POV Pain clawed through my chest as a smile of agony unrolled on my lips. My eyes weren't moist but the bite of her words made my eyes burn. So much hatred? This should not stun me, but damn, it did. It did more than I was capable of describing it in words. I gazed at her, trying to force a smile despite the deep pain in my chest. I reached out a hand to grab hers and put it back on my bleeding forearm. "Why wait for karma to do what you can do to me now, Dove?" I guided her long nails to my skin and made her scratch me. She gave me a look with her left brow going high, "Are you challenging me? I'm not the old Claire, Hunter MacIntyre. She was easy to fool and manipulate. Don't even dare to think that the thought of hurting you would cause my mind to spin.""All I'm trying to do is bring my old Claire back..." I kept the smile which I could see was aggravating her. "And if this is the only way... Then be it." Her nails pricked my skin enough to cause a burning sensati

Yes, my nerves were dancing in happiness and my heart was too excited to contain this happiness.Claire was sitting next to me. It was like a dream come true. That night after she heard my confession and left me alone on the dark and lonely road, I thought it was over. I thought that she wouldn't spare me a single glance after that. But yesterday when she saw me, the relief and happiness was visible in her baby blue eyes. She was soothed but her anger didn't let her show it. And that slap, I won't deny that it didn't hurt me, but that slap was a way to show that she hated me a lot. But I know my Dove. 227I darted towards my room. He held my wrist and stopped me. When he turned me to face him, my heart pounded because Hunter was standing right behind him. His legs staggered watching Tyler hold my hand. But he didn't stop closing in on us. "Dove," He began. "I'm really—""Dove! Is that your nickname? I never heard of it." Tyler cut Hunter with his remark. "I call her Dove because she has pretty big and beautiful eyes which resemble a Dove bird's. Why? Do you have a problem?" Hunter drawled as he aggressively leaned towards Tyler. I was afraid that Hunter might pick a fight with Tyler again, so I pulled the latter with me. "It's no point talking to him. Let's go out." I spoke, feeling disgusted in Hunter's presence. "I don't feel like eating in the house anymore, Tyler. Will you take me out?" "Why not?" He smiled and forwarded his hand to me. Hunter was glaring at Tyler and his hand. When I took his hand, a growl expelled from deep in his chest. We both treated him with ignora

226The jerk was taking pictures of me. I saw him move the phone in different angles to take different photos of me. The winds were favoring him because they blew my hair around, and I raised my hands to tame them. Some of the hair strands were stuck to my face and lips. I sighed as I sought after swiping them back. Hunter took more pictures, but there was no flash this time. Maybe he didn't want to attract the attention of the others on the table and shut the flash off. "Fine, I am sorry." Tyler said aloud while holding his ears. "No one can win an argument from you, Elder Mrs. Murphy. I surrender.""You better." Grandma humphed smugly. "Can we start eating, please. My stomach is churning in hunger!" "Sure, you can." Grandma Avery said and just then Hunter decided to appear. My skin rippled with goosebumps. His eyes were on me as he greeted Avery with a kiss on the cheek, "Hello, Avery, you're looking lovely today." "Hello, favorite person! You're just in time for breakfast. We

225Claire's POV "Ares, I'm on a mission concerning my life and death. My wife is mad at me and I have a competitor fighting with me over her. Do you have any idea how fragile the situation is? One wrong move on my part and I'll lose Claire forever. So please, it's a hearty request, please... Take care of the meetings all by yourself." There was a pause and my curiosity compelled me to tiptoe ahead and peek inside. A surge of emotions left me breathless as my eyes widened. Hunter was walking around with a towel around his hips. His hair was damp, showing that he just had a bath. His strong shiny back made my heart lurch. This man and his strong physique, I recall using vibrators in the beginning of my obsession after laying my gaze on him. I used to imagine those strong arms around my body as he... I shook my head to clear my head. Turning away, I hardened my heart again. That's true that he's a walking distraction, I won't give in to his attempts. He hurt and used me enough. "I

224Claire's POVMy toes curled, slowing my stride as I tried to step towards the bed. My heart had jumped into my throat as it contested with my rising emotions, making my breathing difficult. I stopped by the bed and stared at the surprise none other than Hunter would have prepared for me.My bed was decorated with rose petals, and amidst them sat a cute soft, white teddy bear holding a heart that read 'I'M SORRY' in bold and capital. He wasn't sitting there alone. He had a big bouquet of different shades of sunflowers set beside him and a tray of my favorite chocolates across from him. My fingers twitched as I grazed the head of the bear, my skin tingling with heat and anxiety. What was happening to me? Why was I feeling thrilled and touched by this gesture? It was nothing extraordinary, was it? Just an adulterer trying to right his wrongs. I shouldn't feel impressed. But that's where the problem lies! No matter how hard I tried to loathe him, he did something to weaken my resolve

223Closing his eyes, Hunter took ten deep breaths to stabilize his emotions."Calm down, Hunter. Calm down. Calm down for Claire. She doesn't want a brute for a husband. She wants a loving and understanding man. You can be that for her. You are already that man for her. Calm down. Think about Claire. Just you and her. Just you and her. Just you and her."While he attempted to make himself resurface from the dark abyss of indignation, the sound of the creaking door stiffened his body. He tried to think of himself in another scenario with Claire by her side.'I'm not letting you have the satisfaction to see me lose my shit, Murphy. Not again. Not again.' He told himself as footsteps drummed in his ears as Tyler walked in again.Hunter was bracing himself for another provoking statement from him when, "Hunter, son, are you okay?"He opened his eyes to see Avery looking at him with concern. 222Hunter's heart slammed in his stomach as it throbbed everywhere in his body. His fingers curled and a tide of intense rage crashed within him. "Murphy, no." He shook his head in warning, his voice a low eerie snarl."No? Why no, Hunter? I gave you respite all these years. Don't you think it's time to pay back for your evil deeds done towards me. It's not like I'm doing it alone! Claire and I will do it together. This way you will only have to pay once for the crimes you committed towards two individuals separately. It's a favor done on you, isn't it?"Hunter fumed. His heaving chest indicated the kind of control he was having on himself. The pulse at his throat seemed to explode any time now, even then, it didn't stop Tyler from pushing his buttons further."I was silent all this while because I didn't want to disturb your married life. I'll be honest, you dazed me with your so-called picture perfect life. I thought you were happy and your wife whom I have never met before didn't
