Claire's body froze. She drew in a sharp breath while attempting to flash a smile.

"Mrs. Murphy, I..." Tension failed her.

The complaint in Tia's eyes was palpable. She didn't try to hide her disdain when she sneered.

"I have been fond of you always, Claire. You are like my daughter. I truly sympathize with you for what you suffered. But," Tia grasped her hand and squeezed it spitefully. "I do not appreciate you dragging my son in your mess."

"Mrs. Murphy, I don't know what you are saying. I didn't—"

"I will cut to the chase, Claire. I saw the article and the pictures and it is too much for my bearing. How could you kiss my son?"

A startled gasp burst from Claire's mouth. She blinked her eyes frantically as she shook her head in dissent.

"I didn't kiss Tyler, Mrs. Murphy. The pictures are taken from deceptive angles to make it look like we kissed. But trust me, it's not like that."

Tia sniggered cruelly. Gone was the woman who was earlier consoling Claire that things wo

51The winds became aggressive outside Hunter's villa. Curtains rolled and rumbled and everything about the night suggested the arrival of something perilous. When Hunter was done wearing his clothes, he came to the windows to close them. The outside world was fighting against the storm. From the trees to the grass, he noticed, were battling to stay put in their places while the harsh blowing winds tried their best to tear them apart. Hunter saved himself from slipping as the floor was wet. The winds had carried rain inside. He carefully closed all of them and as he began his stride outside the room, the noise of shattering glass caused him to look back. His heart rolled in his chest and throbbed because one of his and Claire's photo frames had fallen down from the wall. Hunter quickly approached it and picked up the frame. This was one of their wedding pictures. Claire was literally glowing like a star herself. Not to mention that her wedding gown was a shimmery white that glimmere

52RavenMoore, Claire regarded her reflection with uninterested eyes. Even though she appeared lethally beautiful in a cerulean shaded off-shoulder gown, she didn't feel any tingles of excitement. Today was grandma Avery's anniversary party. But heart was at unease, her chest quivering with every breath. She felt her eyes burning with the need to let out emotions that had been building within her for the last two days. She may have smiled and pretended to be happy in the old Murphy mansion. On the inside her core was trembling. Tyler's mother's words haunted her. Every time she came across that woman, her shoulders squared and she felt like hiding behind the couch. Though no one could understand her turmoil, it was getting too much now. "Just tonight. I have to endure this night and then I can go back home." She told herself in order to keep the bids of resilience she had left in her intact. She was motivating herself on how to survive the night when Penelope came in. It was her

53Hunter's PovShe struggled under me like a rebellious deer would from the sharp claws of a panther. Each time she made a move our lips brushed together. It didn't take her long to realize that and she froze like a statue. But her eyes spoke. They screamed at me. Cursed me. They also mocked me for cornering her in the dark like I had a right on her. That's true that I don't. But I want to have it again. I want to have my spousal right on her again. I know I must be crazy for feeling this way but I cannot run away from my feelings. I cannot lie to myself that I missed her. I missed every small habit of hers that I have refused to regard when we were together. Only after she left me did then everything came back to bite me in the ass. The trembling of her lips made my heart skip a beat. I knew she would be shaken after seeing me. That all her past wounds will rip open and bleed again. But I can't deny my desperation. I was dying to see her, which is why, when I heard from my manag

54Hunter's Pov (cont'd) She whimpered and pushed me back. Rubbing her arm I held in a scalding grasp, she sneered. "You can't do anything, Hunter MacIntyre. Tyler is not a weakling. You can't take him down. He knows how to deal with a monster like you." Hearing her praise that scoundrel in front of me, a vortex of fury swirled inside me."Don't." I fixed my dark eyes on her. "Don't try it, Claire. I know there's nothing between you and Tyler.""Just because you think it that way, it doesn't mean it's not true. Tyler promised to marry me. He promised to give me a marriage you couldn't." She articulated after averting her gaze. I didn't want to irk her but my lips upturned in a knowing smirk. She looks away when she's lying. "Reject him. He's not worthy of you.""Neither were you and I still married you. What's wrong with trying it with him? He can't do any more damage, can he? You've done everything to me. I don't have anything to lose." I bit into the flesh of the inside of my

55Claire's POV My head throbbed in an agonizing headache as I watched the two men glower at each other. Never in my wildest dream would I ever want them to have a face off. Yet, here they were. Face to face. Fighting over me. For what? Their claim? I scoffed and blinked my eyes. None of them were saints. They may not have let it be obvious but both of them had blood on their heads. That's how the rich become rich. By shedding blood. Sometimes theirs. Sometimes of others. Although I have not heard any news about them both indulging in criminal activities, I can confidently say they had connections with the dark side of the world. After all, a man will not threaten another with such malice if he wasn't a part of the underworld. And surprisingly, both of them were. Hence, I was numb with terror as I did not want them to get into a physical fight because of me. "You do realize that you are standing in my house, right?" Tyler drawled in a pissed voice as his hands fisted on his sides

  • Regretting Divorce   Chapter 56

56I froze in my spot as the sound of breaking and bursting objects boomed. Hunter and Tyler were after each other's throat. At one moment it was Hunter throwing Tyler against the wall then another it was Tyler. While it felt like only a handful of seconds had ticked by, both of them were drenched in blood. My mind didn't shift gears until I witnessed Tyler breaking a flower vase on his head. It sent Hunter a few steps back. He struggled to maintain his balance. When he had it, he howled like a mad wolf and grabbed a broken, sharp and pointed piece of glass from the floor. "Hunter, no!" I threw myself in front of him, staggering him in his stride. I know I shouldn't feel dizzy but that's what it does— the sight of Hunter's blood. His forehead was clad in red, his left eyebrow split open from the corner and the right side of his mouth was swollen. His lips quivered as if he was on the brink of bursting out. Fear fluttered in my stomach because he looked like a monster. "Please."

57He came forward to touch my cheek. I reached out and punched his jaw. He was bleeding so badly that a pool of redness had formed at his feet. Despite that he was steady in his spot, his stance strong and confident. "I never thought I'd say this but I hate myself for loving you. You are my life's biggest mistake. I wish I never met you." He nibbled on his bottom lip and looked down. It pinched my heart. For a tall and powerful man that he was, he appeared helpless and pained by my words. "You have done me enough damage, Hunter. I will kill myself if you dare show your face to me again." His face shot up, his eyes wide in shock. "You can't—" "You know I can do it. And I swear on my dead baby that I will." He came closer while staring at my face. "You will do no such thing." "I will and you will be responsible for my death like you are responsible for my baby's." He wanted to retort but I said, "Go away, Hunter. Just go away." "Just goo!" I yelled, holding my head. Even if

58Three days later,Hunter was sitting in his cabin in front of an open laptop, his eyes were staring at the screen but his mind was stuck to that moment Claire walked past him without giving him a glance while he was bleeding in Old Murphy mansion."What else do I expect— her care?" He sneered and held his head in his hands. “She was honorable enough to not kick me in the nuts for what I did to her.” He couldn't take her out of his head. Hunter couldn't focus on his work either. There were her images from that night and her icy words always reeling back in his mind. He caused damage that wasn't reversible. Even if he offered his life to pay for his mistakes, it wouldn't be enough. "I am sorry, Claire. I was such an idiot. I couldn't see your worth." He muttered to himself while rubbing his eyes. “But I'm glad it happened. If Zara hadn't come into our lives, I wouldn't have recognized my love for you. It was always there between us. You have brandished me as your own and I never

230Hunter's POV "I'm the one bleeding and it's your eyes that are shedding tears. Isn't it a little weird, Dove?" She froze, I saw her knuckles turn white from clenching her fingers too tight to keep her emotions in check. But she failed and it made my body hum in gratitude. It's a relief that her heart still cares even though her eyes show deep hatred. "Your curses... I've been thinking about them since you first cursed me, Dove. I won't hide how much it hurts to hear all those words. They make my heart bleed. I wonder if you are really so desperate to see my blood. But... Is this how it’ll be when I’m bleeding and suffering in torment?" I moved back so I could look at her face. My darling was glowing red. Her cute nose seemed like a cherry tomato while the rims around her eyes shimmered a pinkish red. Her wet lashes shadowed her admirable cheeks as her full lips quivered from each sob that left them. "Gosh, if this is how you're going to cry, I swear I'll throw myself under a

229Hunter's POV Pain clawed through my chest as a smile of agony unrolled on my lips. My eyes weren't moist but the bite of her words made my eyes burn. So much hatred? This should not stun me, but damn, it did. It did more than I was capable of describing it in words. I gazed at her, trying to force a smile despite the deep pain in my chest. I reached out a hand to grab hers and put it back on my bleeding forearm. "Why wait for karma to do what you can do to me now, Dove?" I guided her long nails to my skin and made her scratch me. She gave me a look with her left brow going high, "Are you challenging me? I'm not the old Claire, Hunter MacIntyre. She was easy to fool and manipulate. Don't even dare to think that the thought of hurting you would cause my mind to spin.""All I'm trying to do is bring my old Claire back..." I kept the smile which I could see was aggravating her. "And if this is the only way... Then be it." Her nails pricked my skin enough to cause a burning sensat

Yes, my nerves were dancing in happiness and my heart was too excited to contain this happiness.Claire was sitting next to me. It was like a dream come true. That night after she heard my confession and left me alone on the dark and lonely road, I thought it was over. I thought that she wouldn't spare me a single glance after that. But yesterday when she saw me, the relief and happiness was visible in her baby blue eyes. She was soothed but her anger didn't let her show it. And that slap, I won't deny that it didn't hurt me, but that slap was a way to show that she hated me a lot. But I know my Dove. She will never hate me.She had several reasons to hate and never see me again, and all those times she came running into my arms.So she's hardly angry at me. But if I make a little effort then I'm sure the ice around her heart will

227I darted towards my room. He held my wrist and stopped me. When he turned me to face him, my heart pounded because Hunter was standing right behind him. His legs staggered watching Tyler hold my hand. But he didn't stop closing in on us. "Dove," He began. "I'm really—""Dove! Is that your nickname? I never heard of it." Tyler cut Hunter with his remark. "I call her Dove because she has pretty big and beautiful eyes which resemble a Dove bird's. Why? Do you have a problem?" Hunter drawled as he aggressively leaned towards Tyler. I was afraid that Hunter might pick a fight with Tyler again, so I pulled the latter with me. "It's no point talking to him. Let's go out." I spoke, feeling disgusted in Hunter's presence. "I don't feel like eating in the house anymore, Tyler. Will you take me out?" "Why not?" He smiled and forwarded his hand to me. Hunter was glaring at Tyler and his hand. When I took his hand, a growl expelled from deep in his chest. We both treated him with ignora

226The jerk was taking pictures of me. I saw him move the phone in different angles to take different photos of me. The winds were favoring him because they blew my hair around, and I raised my hands to tame them. Some of the hair strands were stuck to my face and lips. I sighed as I sought after swiping them back. Hunter took more pictures, but there was no flash this time. Maybe he didn't want to attract the attention of the others on the table and shut the flash off. "Fine, I am sorry." Tyler said aloud while holding his ears. "No one can win an argument from you, Elder Mrs. Murphy. I surrender.""You better." Grandma humphed smugly. "Can we start eating, please. My stomach is churning in hunger!" "Sure, you can." Grandma Avery said and just then Hunter decided to appear. My skin rippled with goosebumps. His eyes were on me as he greeted Avery with a kiss on the cheek, "Hello, Avery, you're looking lovely today." "Hello, favorite person! You're just in time for breakfast. We

225Claire's POV "Ares, I'm on a mission concerning my life and death. My wife is mad at me and I have a competitor fighting with me over her. Do you have any idea how fragile the situation is? One wrong move on my part and I'll lose Claire forever. So please, it's a hearty request, please... Take care of the meetings all by yourself." There was a pause and my curiosity compelled me to tiptoe ahead and peek inside. A surge of emotions left me breathless as my eyes widened. Hunter was walking around with a towel around his hips. His hair was damp, showing that he just had a bath. His strong shiny back made my heart lurch. This man and his strong physique, I recall using vibrators in the beginning of my obsession after laying my gaze on him. I used to imagine those strong arms around my body as he... I shook my head to clear my head. Turning away, I hardened my heart again. That's true that he's a walking distraction, I won't give in to his attempts. He hurt and used me enough. "I

224Claire's POVMy toes curled, slowing my stride as I tried to step towards the bed. My heart had jumped into my throat as it contested with my rising emotions, making my breathing difficult. I stopped by the bed and stared at the surprise none other than Hunter would have prepared for me.My bed was decorated with rose petals, and amidst them sat a cute soft, white teddy bear holding a heart that read 'I'M SORRY' in bold and capital. He wasn't sitting there alone. He had a big bouquet of different shades of sunflowers set beside him and a tray of my favorite chocolates across from him. My fingers twitched as I grazed the head of the bear, my skin tingling with heat and anxiety. What was happening to me? Why was I feeling thrilled and touched by this gesture? It was nothing extraordinary, was it? Just an adulterer trying to right his wrongs. I shouldn't feel impressed. But that's where the problem lies! No matter how hard I tried to loathe him, he did something to weaken my resolve

223Closing his eyes, Hunter took ten deep breaths to stabilize his emotions."Calm down, Hunter. Calm down. Calm down for Claire. She doesn't want a brute for a husband. She wants a loving and understanding man. You can be that for her. You are already that man for her. Calm down. Think about Claire. Just you and her. Just you and her. Just you and her."While he attempted to make himself resurface from the dark abyss of indignation, the sound of the creaking door stiffened his body. He tried to think of himself in another scenario with Claire by her side.'I'm not letting you have the satisfaction to see me lose my shit, Murphy. Not again. Not again.' He told himself as footsteps drummed in his ears as Tyler walked in again.Hunter was bracing himself for another provoking statement from him when, "Hunter, son, are you okay?"He opened his eyes to see Avery looking at him with concern. He shook his head in warning, his voice a low eerie snarl."No? Why no, Hunter? I gave you respite all these years. Don't you think it's time to pay back for your evil deeds done towards me. It's not like I'm doing it alone! Claire and I will do it together. This way you will only have to pay once for the crimes you committed towards two individuals separately. It's a favor done on you, isn't it?"Hunter fumed. His heaving chest indicated the kind of control he was having on himself. The pulse at his throat seemed to explode any time now, even then, it didn't stop Tyler from pushing his buttons further."I was silent all this while because I didn't want to disturb your married life. I'll be honest, you dazed me with your so-called picture perfect life. I thought you were happy and your wife whom I have never met before didn't
