Chapter 6

[EVANDER’s Point-of-View]

“What is this?”

Kian handed me a letter with the family signet of Ambrose embedded on the wax seal. Just as I expected from Randalf Ambrose, his determination to be recognized as my ally always amused me. Randalf was a good Beta to my father before he resigned himself from the Blackwood after my father died. It was clear that he never liked me as his new Alpha, and for whatever reason that was, I ceased to bother since Kian was a perfect fit for the way I ruled my territory.

I also heard it hurt Randalf’s ego that I had him easily replaced.

“It’s an invitation sent by your former Beta, Alpha Evan,” Kian graciously uttered as he bowed his head slightly, his face calm and composed as ever, “For his coming birthday.”

“Hmmm…” I answered and tossed the letter on my desk. There was no reason for me to open it since I already knew what it was for, “Send them a reply that I will attend and that I am looking forward to meeting his daughter, the one that he promised me.”

“Are you not bothered that Alpha Alec Aoki hovers on the daughter of your former Beta? I heard he’s been visiting the lady so often.”

I turned and gave Kian an undisturbed look, “Randalf knows he couldn’t mess up with what we agreed for the sake of the treaty. He is a smart guy. Disappointing me is the last thing he would ever want.”

Kian nodded agreeing, “Indeed. But what about Alpha Alec? Are you not threatened by his presence around your fiancee? What if the lady falls for him—”

My eyes were sharp, glinting red, “That’s why I am going to that g*dd*mned place even though I don’t want to, Kian. I want to see the girl he promised me. I have a feeling there is something in that place that I need to see. And the invitation is a perfect opportunity to go and check what my wolf is trying to find there.”

“I understand,” Kian answered.

I thought Beta Kian had already left so I turned my attention to the glass panel and stared at the busy streets down my building.

I couldn’t remember the last time I had a good sleep. As the days got closer and closer to the date when I decided to go visit the Ambrose Residence, the more agitated me and my wolf had become.

Frustrated, I closed my eyes and thought of that dream I vaguely remember. It was there, in the back of my head. Behind the lids whenever I closed my eyes. A figure of a woman standing in front of me hidden on the other side of a small, foggy room. She had that long thick hair rippling down her round hips. I wanted to think she was naked in front of me but then I wasn’t so sure because all I saw was the silhouette of her smoking hot body.

She was so perfect I couldn’t keep my eyes off her and her small face—I wish I could have had a small glimpse of it. But all I saw was the sadness in her eyes as they glimmered with tears in the middle of the darkness. Like a call for help. My wolf sensed she was in deep pain.

That same image kept visiting my dreams so many times and every time that happened, I woke up disappointed and flustered, wanting to know her so badly. That mysterious woman put me in this kind of ache and agony.

“I’m sorry to bother you, Alpha Evan but there’s some concern I need to tell you about your ex-mate—”

I frowned. It’s been months since the last time I had news of her, “Cindy? What does she want from me now?”

Kian cleared his throat, “Nothing…” he hesitated at first but then I saw that it bothered him and I waited for him to pour what was on his mind, “I mean about what happened between you and Miss Cindy York. After she rejected you. I am afraid it might affect your chance to find your second chance mate, Sir. Miss Cindy is still unstable after what happened—”

I massaged the part between my eyes and sighed, “You don’t have to remind me of it, Kian.” I said in an exasperated tone and looked at him coldly in the eyes, “I don’t want to hear anything from her, you hear me? If it’s about how that woman rejected me, then I have more reason to go to Randalf’s place and meet the girl he promised.”

“Are you not going to talk with her? I had news that Miss Cindy is still in pain after the rejection and I have a feeling there’s something wrong with why she suddenly decided to reject you, Alpha Evan. Are you not suspicious about it?”

“It is what she wanted, Kian.” I could tell Kian was concerned about Cindy. After all, she was his first cousin. I understood that he cared for her after the whole pack found out about the baffling news that Cindy York rejected me for a very senseless reason—that she was scared of the rumors of me leading a pack that works underground and killing people who don’t agree with my rules.

Cindy York was the daughter of an Alpha next to my territory and I thought everything had been fixed already for the ceremony of our wedding. But Cindy was a troubled lady and I thought, despite that we were fated mates, her feelings for me were not strong enough to share her life with me in my pack.

Her fear for me was greater than her desire to be with me and so she decided to reject me a week before our wedding.

It was like a huge slap on the face and there’s no way I would ever forgive her for all the humiliation she did to me. All because of me being—being impotent.

A wild, party lady like Cindy would never accept a husband who couldn’t make her happy in bed and maybe it was good that I had known it early before  I made a huge mistake and made her the Luna of my pack.

“I can’t wait to see Randalf’s daughter, “ I uttered to Kian in a cold tone, “This time, I will make sure that this pack will finally have a Luna.”
