40-2: Blood and order

However, the old man's hostile attitude remained unchanged. And yet, François had been delighted to go hunting this morning. For once in a long time, the Order of Hunters had not received any alerts, and he thought he'd be able to bring home some game for dinner.

The world of the supernatural seemed to have taken a vacation and also seemed to have decided to leave humans alone.

François, though no longer head of the branch of the Order deployed in this part of France, remained vigilant and alert to the slightest suspicious movement.

When he realized that his old bones would no longer allow him to lead the fight against the forces of evil, he decided of his own accord to put an end to his high office.

During a mission, he had been poisoned by a thousand-year-old dryad, and every day since, he had felt his blood harden a little more like sap drying up on the trunk of a tree that had just been bled dry.
