EP 17: THE ACT OF TYING A KNOT

The mansion was huge, made of marbles, limestone and gravels. This gave it it's colour as it wasn't painted, making it a stone house from the outside. It stood full height, about one-third of a land mass that could take four minutes drive from the house to the gates. The compound was that wide and far. There were two golf carts on the land used to move around from one course to the other. Aside those two vehicles, there was a garage close to the mansion where cars were parked. The compound was also covered with trees, flowers and shrubs. It was an old beautiful house.

Contrary to the stony exterior that the house gave on first impression, the interior was a different design—more modern. It had smooth walls, some made of plain ceramics, while other parts were cemented and painted. The ceramics added a different texture to the feel of the walls. Anybody coming in could tell the difference in the two white walls. And so, this was how it varied

One daughter was like him, stubborn as a bull while the other... well the other...he didn't know where she got her attitude from. She was the direct opposite of everyone in his family, including his divorced wife. She was nothing like her. His ex-wife was materialistic, yes, but was like Linda in all ways. She had kindness and generosity in her that the day she woke up and served him divorce papers was the day he thought he was living an illusion. He was confused. She said she didn't feel anything for him and that she thought she could bear it because of his money. She told herself every time that she could buy happiness with the money he had, but she couldn't put up with it any longer. She was not happy and didn't want to be here. He felt hurt of course, he pulled some tantrums for a w

RED INKEP 19: Subtle anomaly The hospital was a huge one, probably government sponsored. It was a six-storey building which was termed "the glass house" because of the appearance it gave. It had an enormous compound space for parking, even an underground parking lot where the ambulances and workers' cars were licensed to park— that was where Aurora was switching off the engine of her SUV, proceeding to check her fuel guage; she figured she had enough to take her around the city for the rest of the week...if she was not traveling. She removed her key from the ignition and freed herself of the seat belt. She had five weeks plus to wait for the result of her performance from her board exam, whether she passed or failed. The answer was to be passed to the computer of her boss in this hospital. Hither. Thank God it wasn't crazy senior. She opened the door of her car, collected her backpack from the passenger's seat and locked her vehicle. As she walked to backdoor of the hospital, she

He looked at her, "Do you want to go home?"Aurora knew that most times, Doctor Hither answered a question with a question—a trait that made her slightly annoyed. It was psychological and it often worked. "I have..." She trailed off. After thinking about it for some seconds, she shook her head and smiled. "I will wait." Doctor Hither nodded. "Good then." He turned to Josiah, "Let's go." As they exited, Aurora sat back down in her chair and looked around the office again, she would be bored if she stayed here. She stood up, picked up her backpack and also exited the office, closing the door behind her. She began strolling in the hospital, looking around, especially the view from where she stood. She saw the backs of Hither and Josiah as they walked away. They were far from her. They disappeared at a corner, the one that led to the elevator. She took her time su

He came forward and handed her the flash drive in his hand. She collected it and looked at it, it was a tiny flash drive, it barely reached one-third of her finger. "I will go through it one last time. Have you been able to contact Mr Dillion?" "His assistant has been picking the calls." "So, not once has he communicated with you, himself?" He shook his head. "No." Linda scoffed. "What does he feel like? " She murmured to herself. "If not that this is important, I wouldn't have bothered." She looked at Gregory, "So, is it certain he will be attending the meeting?" "Yes, young madame. His assistant confirmed he will be there." "Then we better see for ourselves. Wednesday morning, 8:00AM is the fixed time. We will be there thirty minutes early. After all, we are the ones going after him." "Madame, don't you think going thirty minute

He ordered the two men standing on opposite sides of his presence. They walked to delivery truck's trunk, both pulling down the heavy metal door and sealing it with a big padlock. They were both dressed in blue delivery uniforms for one of those delivery companies. The goods were to be delivered to different places in Dretch. Diggy handed them the file they had forged containing fake names of people with real locations. While some of the names were real, serving as a means of diversion if police stopped them on the way, the other names were camouflages and hidden. One of the guys collected the paperback book from him, hailing him with his cap and with that, they got into the passenger's seat and driver's seat respectively. Nobody would want to enter such a weather to get to where they were going, except that place was home. Peter with his violin bag strapped at his back and his hands in his pockets looked up at the sky like a child who was excited to receive a candy for a job well done. It was always that time of the year, let the season do its job. Linda stood beside him. "It has started raining...again."Peter smiled. "Let it shine. It is its season afterall, and it comes with a lot of cold."She was mesmerized by his endearing personality to act without pretence as he pleased on a first date. And though that was a characteristic she admired, the wide smile on his face and the excitement on it captivated her more. When he turned to look at her, the light in his eyes—it sparkled like crystals in a blocked cave. "What do you say, Linda Springdam?" He asked.

She was taking all her effort to discipline herself not to go smoke before the meeting began; she was having a little bit of withdrawal itch, using all she could muster because she didn't want to start the day by smoking cigarettes. She opened her laptop and busied herself by going through the presentation one more time before the actual meeting would commence. Sitting by her left hand side was Diana who had a bored expression on her face, always turning her hand and checking her wrist watch for time. Diana sighed. "Why did we have to be here so early?"
