Ch 27

Wendy's POV

Even though I did not view myself as a proficient dancer—indeed, I would characterize my skills as deficient—once we found ourselves on the dance floor, I began to move with enthusiasm. The Alphas cheered, and I closed my eyes to fully engage with the music. I maintained a smile throughout the dance with Alpha Zane, masking my discomfort with the close physical contact; the touching was infuriating. As we danced, I sensed a penetrating emptiness within me, a clear indication of George’s jealousy. It seemed illogical that I had to endure advances from another man to provoke his feelings. I frequently wished for the music to conclude, yet whenever it appeared to be ending, it resumed. I sighed in frustration, contemplating that if I had to withstand this sensation for five more minutes, Zane might end up with a broken nose and a black eye.

“Are you alright?” he inquired, leaning in close. I held my breath upon catching a whiff of his unpleasant breath. Why had I not n

28George's POV"I will see you later," Vincent mentioned as he entered his vehicle. I nodded in acknowledgment, observing him as he drove away. Once again, I found myself alone. "Hello!" I heard Edward's voice and turned to find him standing next to me. "Are you alright?" he inquired. "How should I respond to that question, Edward?" I replied, and he merely shrugged. "Honestly!" he said. "In that case, the response is both 'no' and 'yes,'" I informed him. "Let us discuss the 'yes' and 'no' in your car," he suggested, guiding me toward my vehicle. He took the driver’s seat while I settled in the front passenger seat. "Please share your thoughts," he urged as we got comfortable. "That is not an appropriate way to address your Alpha, Edward," I chided, frowning. "There is no proper way if my Alpha is sulking like a child deprived of sweets," he countered. "Ugh!" I exclaimed in frustration. "Please, tell me what is on your mind," Edward insisted. "Which aspect should I disc

29Wendy's POVI had never witnessed such enthusiasm in her expression, and I was uncertain about her exact meaning. I was preparing to respond when a sudden loud noise, followed by a fierce growl, interrupted our conversation. I turned toward the source of the growl, only to be taken aback by the sight of George marching toward us. 'You have angered the Alpha male, Wendy!' Daven exclaimed in astonishment as she stepped back. 'George? He cannot possibly—' Before Ian could finish his statement, George seized Daven by the neck and forced him to the ground. I stood frozen, too stunned to react. It happened so fast.Daven grasped my arm, urging me to move. 'You cannot simply remain there!' she whispered urgently. George continued to strike Ian's face repeatedly, all the while Ian kept smiling and chuckling during the attack. 'Is he actually smiling?' Daven inquired, clearly astonished. 'This is why I find him appealing; he is unhinged,' I murmured. 'Alpha George,' Edward called as

Ch 30George's POVWhitney's admission pushed me to my limits. She was not Wendy, but why was that the case? They resembled each other in appearance, speech, and even in their manner of walking. The primary distinction was that the woman before me was devoid of empathy and resolute, whereas Wendy had been tender-hearted and vulnerable. "This cannot be true!" I muttered for what felt like the thousandth time. Despite everything, I still sensed a connection between us at this very moment. "Remove your clothing!" I insisted, stepping closer to her. "What? Why?" she responded, a tremor evident in her voice. I was aware that she was being dishonest; she recognized it as well. But what was the reason behind it? "If you are not Wendy, I wish to verify that myself!" I declared, reaching for her. I recognized that my actions were foolish and irrational, yet desperation drove me. I had ceased to believe that Wendy had died three years prior; my conviction remained unshaken. "No!" she reto

It's clear he knows something, isn't it time he fessed up?"I don't know anything more than you do." He replies instead, getting me more furious. What's his deal? Why am I the only person left in the dark? First, it was Vincent, Now it's my Beta. Why do they know more about my relationship than I do?"Stop the car," I ordered. "What why?" He asked, staring at me. "Stop the car, Edward. Don't make me repeat myself." I said. "Fine!" He groaned, parking the car at the roadside and I got off. "Where are you going?" He asked. "None of your business, Edward. Go home." I said walking down the road. I had no idea where I was going, but I needed time alone. "Alpha king, it's getting late. Get in the car let me drive you home." Edward said. I looked over my shoulder and I could see him follo

Wendy's POV The look Edward sent my way had got me reeling and questioning everything. I didn't plan for today to go this way. I didn't plan to be confronted by George at least not today. I stepped out of the building, migraine hitting me hard. I haven't slept in a while now and it was beginning to take a toll on my health. "You look sad, shake it off, girl," Whitney said in a sing-song tone, prompting a chuckle from me. "I guess I wasn't expecting that confrontation, at least not today," I muttered, rubbing my forehead to ease the pain I was feeling. "For one, I'm glad it happened this way today and if you ask me, I expected it." She said, chuckling. I scoffed, there was no way she was telling the truth, if she expected it, I wouldn't feel this weighed down by it. "He hasn't learned his lesson and I don't think he ever will," I muttered. "Believe me, he will. But it might be too late." She stated and I pursed my lip. She was telling the truth. When George decides to op

George's POV "There are two sides to every story, George. Listening to the perspectives of those you consider weaker may prove to be the right course of action," he stated, prompting me to pause. What did he mean by that?"I don't understand," I muttered quietly and he shook his head. "You never do, George." He replies, emptying his glass content down his throat. I waited for him to continue, I needed him to explain what he meant, but he didn't. "No! You don't get to do this to me, Edward. You don't get to speak in any more parables and not explain." I said. He scoffed in response. "Do you always need things to be explained to you George? Why can't you take a hint and solve things on your own?" He asked, placing his cup down with a clatter. "I'll be in the car. Don't stay long, you're already wasted as it is." He spat, turning to leave. I wasn't drunk, I was far from drunk. My act was just a pretense. The bartender came around with another round and I shook my head. I needed m

Ch 34George's POV"Fuck!" I cuss, my eyes turning a shade of red. She was freaking innocent and I just put her through that. She lost her child. My child. Our child. How was I blinded by Rosina that I didn't see the signs? I believed Rosina over someone who stayed with me through thick and thin. Wendy was there with me ever before I became king of Alphas. Standing up from the bed, I got my unsteady legs to carry me to where I kept my bottle of scotch. Edward was wrong when he said drinking helped no one, well, look what's helping me think. Wendy never felt comfortable with Rosina and any chance she got, she let me know. I waved it off, after all, not all daughters-in-law got along with their mother-in-law. Stepmother-in-law, if there was anything like that term. I walked around my room, stopping in front of the mirror. I stared at my reflection and I hated the figure that stared back. I just realized I hurt the one person I once swore to never harm. "No!" I whispered into th

How she's not six feet down the earth is shocking. I watched the car bust into flames with her in it, so how come she's here showing her ugly face? I walked to my car still fuming. "Are you okay?" Max asked and I ignored him. I don't want to say a thing, because once I do I won't be able to stop myself from ripping that bitch in pieces. I'm already concocting ways to end her when my phone vibrates in my bag. I bring it out to see a text from Gerald. I scoffed at it, who in their right senses sends this? What does he mean by he has no idea what his next action will be? He's a man who should take up responsibility sometimes. My heart hurt. I needed to find out if the woman was honest about Whitney. Was she set up? Was this all a big trick? I had worked hard to believe my pack made the right choice, but now, all my worries were coming back like a monster from the dark. I felt like the worst leader ever. I had detained the woman I loved. What had I done?“Is something bothering you, Your Majesty?” Duncan asked with his voice interrupting my thoughts and bringing me back to reality.I concentrated on him, trying to think straight. “The woman I spoke to at the party, the one who talked about the attacks.” I said, my voice tense, “She’s missing. The guards said she never left the room, but she's gone.”Duncan frowned. “That's really strange, Your Majesty. And worrisome.”“It's not just worrying, Duncan.” I said, my hand tightening into a fist. “It's…really suspicious.”He didn't reply, just focused on the road again, but I could see he was tense. He wanted to say something but kept quiet. I knew he was worried

I rushed back into the main hall. The witness, the woman who mentioned the attack, was missing. Disappeared. “Where is she?” I shouted. The two guards who had been watching the door, their expressions as blank as the stone statues outside, quickly stood up straight.“Your Majesty.” said one of them. “We haven't let anyone go through. No one has left this room, we promise you.”“Are you saying she just grew wings and flew out the window?” I said angrily. “She was right here. I talked to her just five minutes ago. Where did she go?”The older guard shifted his weight awkwardly. “With all due respect, Your Majesty, we have been standing outside this room for the last hour. No one has come in or gone out. It just can't be true.”My hands tightened as anger bubbled up inside me. “She was here! She warned me about an attack. You're saying a woman just vanished when two trained guards were right outside? Are you joking with me?”The gaurd winced at how I spoke, but he stood his ground. “Not

George's POVMy men moved, and as they approached her. I felt a strong urge to stop them, to protect her. But I couldn’t. I was the Alpha King, and I had to do my duty, even if it hurt me inside. Whitney crouched a little, her hands clenched into fists. Her eyes, usually bright and warm, were now like cold, hard stones, showing danger. She looked ready to fight, to overcome anything in her way. This wasn’t the Wendy I knew... She seemed like a wild animal, trapped and ready to attack. The crowd, which had just been laughing and talking, quickly formed a wide circle around her with their faces showing fear and dark curiosity. They understood what a trapped wolf could do.“Whitney,“ I said softly, but my words broke the quiet. I moved closer, stretching out my hand. Not to hold her back, but to ask her.“Please. Don’t do this.“ I wasn’t telling her what to do like a ruler. This was a request from a man begging the only woman he had ever loved.I got to her and softly held her hand, my f

Wendy's POVThe woman’s voice broke through the nice chatter at the party. “You!” she yelled, her finger, twisted and dirty, aimed right at me. “You bad snake! It’s you!”I gasped. How bold this woman was! Her clothes were torn and dirty, and her hair was a mess. She looked so different from the fancy ballroom. This woman was like a monster, causing trouble, and she was targeting me with her anger.“Stay calm, Whitney, stay calm.” I told my wolf, a deep growl coming from inside me. Whitney was tense, ready to jump and attack this woman. I pushed back her anger and made myself feel icy calm. “Who are you?” I asked, my voice steady and surprisingly gentle.George stepped forward, his face filled with anger. “Who is this woman? How did she get in here?” His voice was quiet but full of rage. “Guards!” he shouted loudly in the hall. “What is going on here?”Two guards, looking very embarrassed, rushed over. They bowed deeply to George. “Your Majesty, we don’t know how she got in. We are ve

George's POVI walked through the crowd at the royal ball, forcing a smile. Every polite nod and small talk felt like a burden. I kept looking at the grand entrance. I searched the faces, hoping to see her. Still nothing. The waiting was tense. Where was she? Would she even show up?Whitney. My Wendy. Even after all this time, just thinking of her made me feel a deep ache inside. I wanted her here tonight more than I wanted to breathe. The emptiness inside me wouldn’t go away until I saw her. I held back the urge to find her and ask her to come, and instead tried to seem like I was having fun at the party. I wanted her to come to me, to want to be with me.I noticed some movement out of the corner of my eye. I turned, my smile fading. It was Beta Edward. My jaw clenched. He was one of the last people I wanted to see. I had sent him on an important mission – to deliver a message to the Alphas of the North, a task that should have kept him busy for several weeks or more. Why was he back

He turned with his forehead wrinkled a bit. “What is it, Wendy?”I turned my head to the window, staring at the black car parked on the street. It was just sitting there, strange and scary, like a hunter waiting for its target. I didn't like it at all.Daven looked where I was staring with his eyes squinting at the car. For a moment, we both just stood there with our thoughts racing. Then, the engine roared to life. Before we could do anything, the black car took off quickly, kicking up dust and leaving a strange quiet behind.“Ugh Dame it!” Daven shouted while running out the door. He was quick but the car was already too far away.I went outside with him,. We stood on the porch, watching the red lights fade away until they disappeared into the growing dark.Daven faced me, looking upset and worried. “What was that, Wendy? Brittany's POVThe front door slammed into the frame hard enough to shake the windows. I didn’t mind. Let the house tremble. Let the walls fall apart. I was so frustrated, like a pot ready to boil over. I turned around, my anger still buzzing inside me, and there she was – the maid, smiling like a bright morning, looking so happy in her job.“Welcome back, Miss Brittany.” she said cheerfully, her smile big and overly sweet.I scowled at her. Her happy face only made my anger worse. “Do something useful!” I shouted, my voice cutting like glass. “Just go! Do anything but stand there smiling like an idiot!”Her eyes grew big, and her smile faded. She didn't need to say anything else. She almost disappeared, her quiet footsteps hurrying down the hall, leaving me boiling in the loud, empty silence of my anger. Then, as she always did, my wolf, Sapphire spoke clearly in my head. “Brittany, what’s wrong? He just nodded, his fingers already moving fast on his tablet, and headed for the door. “Sure thing, Ms. Decodes,” he said before vanishing.I walked across the room, the soft carpet quieting my steps, and paused a few feet away from him. “So.” I said, my voice showing some impatience, “What do you want now, Your Majesty? Ch 46 George's POV I was contemplating what to do. It was a note and I could see writings on it. I frowned as I slowly opened it. The heading has got me reeling, I already knew that what happened six years ago was a plot, but this confirms everything. I sat on the couch in my office, going over everything. I've been looking for proof that she was Wendy, I guess this is it, but who could have left this here? I scanned the handwriting again and I couldn't remember seeing it anywhere. Hold on. I stood up walking to my table. I ransacked it, throwing most of the papers to the floor. I saw what I was looking for embedded in a file. I slowly opened it, praying it wasn't him. I matched the handwriting and it was the same thing. Why would Edward leave this here instead of telling me himself? I was still wondering why he didn't tell me when the door opened and in came him. I turned to stare at him, holding up the two papers. His eyes went from them to me. He stepped in fully, closing th
